Hello and welcome! It has been more than 10 years now that I have been compiling on this channel the best personal development ideas through, I don't know, perhaps more than 500 books that I have read, courses that I have taken, my training, my coaching training, different interviews that I have been able to do or give around psychology and neuroscience. And today, I really want to share five of my favorite ideas, five strong ideas from this decade on YouTube, because they have changed my life and I hope they will change yours too, in whatever way, whether direct or indirect. I just want to share this with you. Five essential lessons that have allowed me to truly give a different direction to my life.
One of the first lessons I have drawn from all of this is to be able to distinguish between getting into motion and taking action. This first reflection is super important. There is a very big difference between getting into motion and taking action. And I will tell you one thing, this distinction is crucial. If, for example, sometimes in your life, you hesitate to do something, if you procrastinate, or if you feel stuck, or if you work like a maniac but you don't get the expected results, this idea comes from one of James Clear's books, Atomic Habits. It has been translated into French, I even made a book review on this same channel. When you get into motion, for example, you plan, you develop strategies, you learn thoroughly about the subject. For example, you will compare types of physical training or the equipment you will use or need to do sports, or you will start comparing different types of gym offers. All of this is good, but it produces no results. Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that produces results. I will give you examples. If we take the field of health, for example, getting into motion means being obsessed with what is the best diet I can do. Am I doing a paleo diet, am I doing a vegetarian diet, am I doing the Mediterranean diet, ketogenic. Then, you will go on forums, you will discuss with people online to know which one is the best, but in the end, when you step on the scale, you will see no difference. If I am in action mode, it includes, for example, that I have subscribed to a gym, I go there, I go almost every day, and all the food that I know is bad for me, I get rid of it. Do you see the difference between the two?
If I put this back into a school context, getting into motion means studying all night and gathering all the necessary material to write an assignment, taking all the information. Action consists of already writing a hundred, 100, 200 words on the document. A very personal example, I used to plan videos, so I was looking for the best setting, the best lighting, the best video setup, the best equipment, I was thinking about the best way to say things, but very quickly I realized that all this time, I felt productive, but in reality, I had never filmed anything. Action consists of pressing the record button, I do everything in one take, and even if I stammer a little and sometimes stumble over a word, I continue and deliver in this way. And I am sure that when I make small mistakes, you don't hold it against me, okay? Ask yourself this fundamental question: how can you spend more time taking action and getting what you want, instead of just getting into motion? Because be careful, getting into motion gives us the illusion that we are taking action, but in reality, we are producing no results. And this distinction has been essential for me, because it allowed me to immediately stop wasting time trying to understand, to have all the necessary information. It doesn't matter if I don't have all the necessary information to act, I act, and then I reinforce the information and I correct. That is the first lesson.
The second lesson is that effort is the universal price of respect. Listen to me carefully, effort is the universal price of respect. That is the second strong idea. We often feel that people do not give us the credit we deserve, whether you are training, starting a new business, training to be a coach, or anything else. People may not see the efforts you are making at the beginning, that's for sure, but believe me, they will see them in the end. When I started publishing content on this channel, it was around 2012 that I really started to say to myself "I'm going to do this seriously". Some people made fun of my videos or even dared to give me advice, well, not always wise, I must say, but I continued, I continued to make efforts, to watch, to try to improve, and finally, these same people came to ask me for advice, or they literally plateaued in the development of their own channel, and even in their development in general. The essential thing is that if you continue to work hard, people will eventually respect you. They will eventually respect you because they will respect your work, and when they respect your work, by consequence, they respect you. That is also a certainty. Don't forget that effort is the universal currency of respect. And be careful, because we are promoting effort less and less by promising you the moon without doing anything. That is to say, often, I see people who say "you can become an entrepreneur, you can earn thousands of euros with just one or two hours of work per day". Guys, first, one, that doesn't work, and two, by making less and less effort, this notion of effort becomes discouraging because just thinking about it discourages us and demotivates us. And that is the beginning of the end when you are in this kind of thing, because you lose the taste for effort. And I will tell you one thing too, effort fosters what we call our personal merit. And personal merit, this personal consideration which consists of thinking that, ultimately, we deserve what we get in life, that is one of the pillars of a good self-image. Yes, I stuck with it, I continued. There. So, effort, effort, effort.
The third lesson is to make a link between growth and shame. Really, there is a link between I will grow and sometimes, I will experience situations that are not always the most pleasant to live. You know, I often talk to business leaders who hate putting content online because they are afraid that their old videos or new videos will quickly become obsolete. So, listen to me carefully, what I am going to tell you is very important. If you don't make a grimace, if you don't have a strange grimace when you look at who you were just a year ago, it means you haven't evolved enough. When I look at my work from a year ago, my way of speaking, my eloquence, the type of shot, the type of editing, all of that, if when I look at that, I don't say "wow, I've really progressed since then", I have a problem, okay? Now, I know, our ego likes to think that we are fully developed. But just take a moment to remember when you were about 18 years old, 18-20 years old, and you had this feeling of having understood everything and of giving life lessons to older people. Do you see what I mean or not? To evolve means that you will always make a kind of grimace when you look back, and that's okay, it proves that you have progressed. That's a good piece of advice I saw, I don't know if it was on Instagram or TikTok, but don't kill the part of you that makes the grimace, kill the part of you that doesn't accept that face. That is super important. And understand that every time you see imperfections, don't feel shame, but understanding that if you are capable of making that judgment, it means you have evolved. So, accept awkwardness and use that awkwardness as a sign of growth. Vulnerability is a true sign of growth, okay? And that is super important. I hope you grasp what I am telling you. So, don't be afraid of what you have put out there and never be afraid to evolve. Things will never be perfect. In 10, 20, 30 years, when I look back at who I am today, I will have many things to improve, and that's okay, that's very good, it will really mean that I will have continued to be in this dynamic of moving forward, evolving, and improving.
The fourth lesson is about financial freedom. The fourth big idea is money. In fact, I will tell you one thing, what I have observed is that most people do not know how to manage their money. I don't know if you know, but more than 50% of European households live from day to day financially. And when I talk about households, these are households that earn a decent living. And many of them spend more on lottery tickets than on training or books. You know, when I was about twenty, I worked multiple jobs, I was rather poorly paid, I was always broke, and well, I had to pay for my studies, I had to pay for my passions and then sometimes a few outings because we were young, okay? When I realized that saving money is buying more freedom, I finally had the idea of saving a little more of the money I earned. What does that mean? It means that even if it sometimes represented only 10% of my income, or if it represents 10% of yours, that money belongs to you. And listen to me carefully, it is important to have a reserve because that is what values your hard work, the famous efforts you have made. Tony Robbins said in an interview that if you have enough cash for a year in advance, you will feel financially secure. And precisely, thanks to this security, you will be able to take the necessary risks to succeed, and I find this idea very interesting.
And the fifth and last lesson for today, in any case, is simple solutions to complex problems. Listen to me carefully, very often, the problem you are experiencing is complex, but the solution is always simpler than it appears. For example, losing weight can be a truly complex problem, I grant you, because there are many conditions that cause you to gain weight, conditions that can be physical, biological, often psychological. Eat less and exercise more. The solution is much simpler than it appears, even if the problem seems complex to you. Do you want more money? Stop spending unnecessarily and start saving and increasing your income. Three things to do: stop spending haphazardly, start saving even a tiny bit, and look for ways to increase your income level. I had a client last year who told me "in fact, I earn a decent living as an employee, but there are a lot of things I dream of doing, and I want to do them through my passion. So, I'm going to train with you as a coach, I'd like to work four days instead of five in my company, and they're okay with it. When I finish my training, I'd like to dedicate one to two days a week that I'll spend on supporting and coaching personal development." After a year of training, this person was already earning as much as she did as an employee, and it was crazy because she told me "but in fact, it changed my life." That is to say, my whole standard of living remains the same, except that I allow myself better vacations, I treat myself to development training, and I was even offered internal promotions. Look at relationship problems, work on being yourself. When you have relationship problems, you must first look within yourself, heal your past, and become the person you want to spend the most time with. You know, we often build emotional narratives around our problems, and therefore, the way we tell our problems makes them seem much bigger and much more complex than they really are, because we get attached to that story. So, try to clarify your problems, put them down, and be solution-oriented. And I implore you, eliminate the personal narratives that hold you back by stopping giving value to your problems, because when you tell them, it's as if it were a glory to have important problems. What is important and glorious is not having problems, it is finding the resources that allow you to overcome these problems, to solve them.
I hope these five lessons will be useful to you and that they will open your mindset a little bit to a new way of seeing the world. In any case, for me, they have been really useful. And just one thing, if you want more videos like this, say so in the comments and I will give you more. For example, I was thinking the other day about these six things I really wish I had known when I was in my twenties, precisely to have more success. It was this video that triggered this phenomenon. If you liked this video, like it, it always makes me happy. It's really a way for me to receive your interest. I invite you to subscribe, it's super important because I have a lot of things for you. Thank you for listening to me until the end, I love you and see you very soon.
