Why not just start the week off with a little bit of controversy? And so there's nothing that can elicit anger or feelings or controversy like talking about tongues. What I want to do this time though is I want to look at look at it a little bit differently. I want us to view tongues kind of this way. Let's look at it from not from the standpoint of the other person doesn't have the Bible or doesn't have the Holy Spirit or anything like that. Let's just go through the text. Let's just kind of be, you know, charitable to each other. And if you think a person doesn't understand tongues or knows the Bible, what have you, use the Holy Spirit that's in you to relay how you actually feel in a biblical way, in a godly way. In other words, if someone is incorrect, well, then the Holy Spirit in you, since you're so full of the spirit, should guide you in the best way to correct this person, to get them to see, because that's what the Holy Spirit is there for, right? To guide us, to get us, to teach us. And so let's just see if we can go through the scriptures, see what the text says about the uh everything mentioning uh speaking in tongues. And I want to cover every verse, literally every verse in the Bible that covers or speaks about speaking in tongues.

Now there is this this principle that we can go off of. It is the the principle of uh or the law of first mentions. What is that? Well, the the law first mentions means that when we see something written in the Bible, the first time that we see it, it might be an opportunity to see what the word actually means, what the definition of it means. And so, the law the the law or principle or rule of first mention is basically a guideline that you may use to study the scripture. You don't have to. But what it basically says is that to understand a particular word or doctrine, you should use or you must find the first place in scripture that the word or doctrine is revealed and study that passage. The reasoning is that the Bible's first mentioning um of a concept is the simplest and clearest presentation. And so let's see if we can find out because we're going to go through the scriptures and look at every time that tongues are mentioned and see if we can get an understanding if we can understand what the word actually means.

So let me ask you guys a question. What does the word tongues mean? Now I want you to think about what the Bible says, not what you think or even what you think is correct. No, I want you to tell me what you think the word means. But before we do that though, where is the very first time that tongues are mentioned? And I do want to give you all an opportunity to try to find for yourself before I uh give the secret away. Shouldn't be a secret, but where in the Bible does anyone know where in the Bible tongues are first mentioned? And that would kind of give us an understanding because ladies and gentlemen, when you see where it's first mentioned at, that can be a good, healthy, and really a biblical definition, a working definition. So that we shouldn't really stray away because when you hear about tongues in the Bible, think about yourself not as someone who was in 2026, someone who is in this modern society, but think about when the people who first hear it, what they think about it. In other words, if I the first time I hear it or the second time or every time I heard it in the Bible, well then that should give me an understanding or or place yourself in their position. So if I am in first century Judea, then when I hear it, I know what it means. So when you say the word, I'm not confused. Or do you think that when the the term is mentioned, do you think that the people there were confused? In other words, the very first time that we see tongues or hear tongues being spoken about, when we see it in the gospels, when we see it other places, do we see that the people are confused about it? They don't we don't have them the people who are who they're speaking to. They're not confused about it, are they? They are not confused.

Now, some might say that Acts 2 is the first time that we see the word tongues. It's not. No. Uh someone say, "Well, no, no, no. The gospels predate Acts. So, the Gospels." So, where in the Gospels do we see speaking in tongues first mentioned? Well, let's see. Not Matthew, not Luke, not John, but in Mark. But that would also be incorrect. The very first time that we see tongues mentioned is going to be in Isaiah 28. Notice what he says in verse 11. Indeed, he will speak to this people through stammering lips and a foreign tongue. Cory, that's not that's not speaking in tongues. Well, let's take this word or let's slide the Hebrew over and I want to bring in the Greek. There is a this phrase that you're going to see here. Uh actually three words, but really two I want to focus on. one glosses and so this is tongues or languages. Now the word tongue or this word gloes has two meanings. One meaning we're not going to focus on. One meaning is the actual tongue the member in our mouth. Now it refers to the speaking as well depending upon how you use it. But the other lang the other way is by language. It's only two meanings. The tongue the memor in your mouth or actual languages. The reason why I want you to focus on this is because I want you to see the Greek word that's used here because when you get to the New Testament and you go to Mark and you go to Acts and you go to first and second first 1 Corinthians uh 12 and 14, you're going to see these same words. And so the words that you're going to look for are gloss and here we have the word lausen, but it's from two words las and uh glossi. So gloss means languages. Las means to speak. So you're going to have the combination of these two words las and glossas or glossa in various forms because the way we have prefixes and suffixes in language you have to account for that. So but you're going to see those two words. Are you all following me? I want to make sure that you guys catch this. Excuse me. So, what are the two words you're going to always see or you should see or at least what's being spoken of here in Isaiah 28? Las and glossas. Okay.

Now, there's another word that's also there that's helpful to know so that you can understand. It gives even more clarity to what the writer is speaking of and that's this word that's also highlighted. Heteras. Now, heteras means another. So for example, we get our word heterosexual because [laughter] you if you are if you are engaged in marital affairs, it should be heterosexual. Are you with me? So other or another. So you're going to see these two words that I have highlighted, glossas and las. And then every now and then you might see this word heteros. So what's being spoken to now in Isaiah 28? What's the context of Isaiah 28? Isaiah is bringing about a judgment or prophecy to Israel, to the Jews, and they are rejecting the message. They're not faithful people. And you're going to see that Isaiah, by the way, Paul brings this up that they are going to be spoken to by other people of different languages, and they still won't heed. Look what he says. Indeed, he will speak to this people. Which people? Israel. He will speak to this people through stammering lips and a foreign or another tongue. He who said to them, "Here is rest. Give rest to the weary and here is repose." But they would not listen. So now knowing that the word glossas is language and they are speaking there will be other people or people speaking another language since the word is language and heteros is there people speaking another language or in other languages to who in other languages and the Jews Israel will not understand. Okay, that part is important. So they will speak to you in another language and when you when you hear it, they will not believe. They will look what he says in verse 12. And here is the repose. But they would not listen. Who will not listen? The Jews. Israel. Amen. Now this is why this is important. So, at least in Isaiah 28, we should have an understanding of what the word or what the term speaking in tongues means. Now, I don't think that anyone is going to have a problem with that. As a matter of fact, if there's anyone in the chat who disagrees with this understanding, please feel free to raise your hand and say, "Hey, I disagree. That's not what it means." And so, as we're going, is there anyone that disagrees? Is there anyone that disagrees with what I have just stated thus far in Isaiah 28:11? And the reason why this is important and the reason why this rule of first mention is also important is because guess what this is going to show up again. What this this particular verse is going to show up again. So speaking in tongues at least the very first time that we're spoken of there's also a purpose to it. So we understand what the purpose of it is. we understand what the definitions are and then we want to see the examples. The very first example is of people speaking another language and the and the result is going to be that people that is this people which people Israel the Jews will not understand. So you're going to have by the way again what's the problem with Israel? They are unbelieving, disbelieving, unfaithful, and disobedient. Amen.

Now, it'd be interesting to know how many times the word speaking in tongues, the the combination of lasas is used in the Bible. It'd be interesting to know, right? And so, 21 times in the Bible is this phrase used. 21 times this phrase is used in 19 different verses in seven chapters. In Isaiah, in Mark 16, Acts 2, Acts 10, Acts 19, 1 Corinthians 12, and 1 Corinthians 14, those are the only chapters in the Bible that they're brought up. As a matter of fact, so think about it on in only three books of the New Testament is tongues spoken of. in three books in the New Testament is tongue spoken of and most scholars will say only two books. Why? Because most uh at least textual critics would will say that the longer ending of Ma Mark uh is not in the original. And so because of that you would not find speaking in tongues in Mark 16. But here's what we're going to do. We are going to proceed as though Mark 16, the latter ending, specifically verse 17, belongs in the Bible. So whether you think it does or doesn't, we're going to proceed because it doesn't affect what we're talking about uh to to any large degree. So 21 times in the Bible, 19 verses in seven chapters in three books in the New Testament. Uh now the question is, how many people are recorded as speaking in tongues? Now, while you're thinking about that, let me answer what was the question that you just brought up, Linda? Uh, why do the translators of the scriptures not use language instead of tongues? For a lot of for myriad of reasons. Again, I think that really has to do with more of um more of tradition. But if I say tongue, I you would still know what I mean. Um, can you speak the common tongue? Can you speak um the uh uh the American tongue? Can you speak the tongue of the south? By the way, I'm going to show you something regarding that so that when we see tongue, you also should be aware that it's not a big deal. Even then, how they would use it, they understood because they understood the tongue of also meant a language.

But now the question, how many people are recorded as speaking in tongues in the Bible? Any idea? Well, we've got the the uh the the people in Acts two that are those 12 apostles. So, you've got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9 11 12. In Acts 2, we think that there that they were speaking in tongues in Acts 8. So, let's say then, but how many? Don't know. Uh then we have it in Acts 10. How many? Don't know. Acts 19. How many? Uh 12. And then who else? Paul. So after that, we don't have anyone else that's recorded as speaking in tongues. As a matter of fact, even with Paul, we're not recorded him speaking in tongues. He just tells us that he speaks in these tongues more than more than all of them.

Now, how many here's the question, though. Now, how many recorded events of someone speaking in tongues? How many events are there in the Bible recorded of someone speaking in tongues? And when I say speaking in tongues, I mean as it relates to the spirit, as it relates with being done supernatural. Because if tongues means languages, well, they're all over the Bible. Someone speaking Hebrew or uh Aramaic or Greek or what have you? Then, but I mean in terms of that's been it's been guided by the spirit. How many times, how many events in the Bible? This might be a little bit surprising to some people. There are only two recorded events of someone speaking in the Bible. And really only one time do we have any any specificity. But only two times in the Bible are there recorded events is a recorded event of someone speaking in tongues. Acts two, which you all know, and then the only other time is Acts 10:46. So, we'll look at those. Again, we're going to go over every verse in the Bible related to speaking in tongues. And then we're also going to talk about some verses that are not about speaking in tongues. We'll come to those. There are three, maybe four sets of verses that people bring up often that have that they will assume or equate to speaking in tongues or referring to speaking in tongues, but they do not. We'll look at those as well because again what are the words ladies and gentlemen what are the words that we're looking for just so you don't forget the words that we are looking for remember lasas and glossas lasas las speaking or to speak glossas means tongues or language okay so what we're going to do is look for that okay

So some of the other questions we have to look for is does the Bible distinguish between certain types of tongues? In other words, does the Bible distinguish between private tongues and corporate tongues? Does the Bible distinguish between speaking in tongues and praying in tongues? Okay. So what we want to do is first before we go through some other questions that we have to look at because we're also going to look at the rules that the the Bible actually lays out rules prohibitions and so forth regarding tongues. So we want to look at those as well. So let's go ahead and start. We've already been in Isaiah 28. And so clearly in this text, he's speaking of people who are speaking actual language and that the Jews, Israel, will hear this and they will not listen. They are going to be speaking the truths of God and Israel will not listen. Israel will not believe. The next time that we see tongues being spoken of in the Bible is Mark 16. Even if you say that Mark 16 does not apply, that Mark 16 is part of the longer in Mark. Uh it was not in the original, that's fine because people who would argue differently with you uh about tongues will always point to this text or in many cases might point to this text. Some will. And so I just want to just go ahead and use this text anyway. So these signs will accompany those who have believed in my name. They will cast out demons. They will speak with new tongues. And so what what's the the rendering here? And I I didn't highlight I should have highlighted this, but they will speak in they will cast out demons in my name and they will speak. What are the two words? I didn't highlight this the way I wanted to, but the two words that are highlighted here are glossas and laas in this case gloss and and lalesusen. So you have the two words that are that are there also. So would you conclude, ladies and gentlemen, that because the same two words are used here as the same two words that are used in Isaiah, would you agree that in Mark 16 that that's that that they're speaking about the same thing? Is there anyone that would conclude that Mark 16 and Isaiah 28 are two different types of tongues? Now, if you do disagree there are two different types of tongues. If you if you believe that there are two different types of tongues, you would have to say, "Well, here's why. There is no why there. There's there if you think these are different types of tongues that are spoken up in Mark 16 and Isaiah 28, you have no basis for it. All we all we do have is this. We have the two words that are there, glossas and lysusen. That's it. So, las and glossas. That's it. So, we've got the same words. And so, if you lived at that time, if you lived at that time, then you would understand those tongues to be the same tongues that you see in the Bible. Now, I want you to pause for a second and some of the things you're going to say. For example, you say that there are three different types, three kinds of tongues in the scripture. I'm going to ask you to back that up. You might be correct. You might be wrong. The only way that you can be correct is if you've got scripture to prove it. If you don't have scripture to prove it, then you are by definition wrong and unbiblical. Right? Not that you are unbiblical, but the stance is unbiblical because it's not found in the Bible. Now, we're going to look and see because I'm asking the question, are there different types of tongues? That's one of the issues cuz remember, we're going off of what we see so far, which is lasas. Amen. So las and glossas. So we see that in Mark 16.

The next time we see tongues is going to be in Acts chapter 2. So in Acts chapter 2, let's let's pull this up. This is on obviously the day of Pentecost. And this is when Jesus says, "You'll receive the Holy Spirit and you'll be what? My you'll be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the world." And so the Holy Spirit comes upon the the uh the disciples, the the apostles and they began to be witnesses of Christ in Jerusalem and Judea and in Samaria and then Acts 10 and Acts 19 into the uttermost parts of the world to the Gentiles and even to those people who were outside of Judea. Amen. And so when it happened and there appeared on them tongues as of fire. And so what would we assume tongues of now? It could it could refer to them the actual member or it could actually refer to languages. But we're going to see what he means. If he's using tongues literally or if he's using tongues figuratively, we'll know what he's speaking of because he's going to tell us. We're going to see uh tongues as a fire distri distributing themselves as they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And look what he says and began to speak with other tongues. Now, before we get to the other tongues part, I want you to notice what he says here. As the spirit was giving them utterance, so in this context, who's causing them to speak? Who's making them speak? They're not doing it on their own. As a matter of fact, they had no idea what was going to happen at the receiving of the Holy Spirit at that time. They had no clue whatsoever. Nowhere in scripture are these disciples told that you are going to speak in tongues. It's not told. But they do as the spirit gave them utterance. But those guess what's there? Those two words las and gloss. I see you brother. I'm not bringing you on at this time. Maybe later. If you want to give a validation of the scriptures then put them in the chat. Okay. I see you and I understand your I appreciate your passion, but if you want to even me even think about bringing you on, give me the scriptures. Okay. Amen. Amen. All right. So, what are the words that are used here? Lasas. What does this word right here that's highlighted mean? Las. It means to speak. What is glossas? With or in languages? How do we know? Because the very first time that phrase is mentioned, it means to speak in languages. As a matter of fact, remember I told you about this word right here, heter. Well, that we see in Isaiah. What do we see? They will speak with these other languages. Heterise. And so, why is that important? Because in these other languages, Heteras is also what we see in Acts 2. They began to speak in other languages. Heteris glossise. Okay. So they are speaking languages other languages. So it seems to me that this speaking in tongues is exactly like the tongues that we see speaking in what? Other languages that are spoken in Isaiah 28. remember what is going to be the outcome. What's going to be the result? What did Isaiah say would be the result? The outcome as a result of them speaking in these other languages, what will those dis those disbelieving, disobedient Jews, what will happen to them? What did Isaiah is going to be the result of these languages being spoken? He said they won't believe. Does that happen? Yes, that is what happens. Now, did he did he mean that all will not believe? No, he didn't mean that all. Certainly, they're going to be some Jews are going to believe. Otherwise, there would be no no founding of the church. Amen. So, that being the case, let's go to the next phrase.

Now, I'm glad you put your verses up because I want to prove something to you. He put up Acts 2 4-11 signed to unbelievers. [snorts] He says Acts 14 2-4 it's a prayer language. Okay, we will see. And then Acts 14:27-28 interpret necessary for the church. We are going to see. I'm glad you did that. Thank [snorts] you. So, we're going to look and see if all of those instances that you said are different occurrences or are the same. What will what can happen no matter what side of the ledge you're on? We might let someone who's told us what those words are to tell us this is this kind of lang. This is this kind of uh tongues. This is that kind of tongues. This is that kind of tongues. But let's see if the text validates that. Let's see if this if the words that are written to us that are given to us if they actually back that up. So going back to Acts two, they were speaking in these other languages. I don't think most people are going to have a problem with that being speaking in other languages. Now, there were Jews living in Jerusalem because what did Jesus say? They were going to be witnesses in both Jerusalem and Judea. So, to these Jews, uh, devout men from every nation under the sun. And when this sound occurred, what sound? The sound of them speaking in these other languages, uh, they came together and were bewildered. And they were asking, wondering, "Hey, what's happening?" because they were hearing them speak in his own language. Let's pause for a second. Some people are going to say that the gift was not so much in the speaking but the gift was in the hearing. There is no such gift recorded in the Bible as called the gift of hearing. However, all they're saying is we are hearing them but not we're just hearing them. What are we hearing them do? Here's how you know the gift is not the hearer or the hearing. The gift is a speaking because he says they were hearing them speak in their own language. They were hearing them speak in their own language. So the the gift was not the from the hearer. You can't say the Holy Spirit spell on them on the people that were speaking it and whom the Holy Spirit had not fallen upon yet. They had the gift of hearing. There is no such thing. So therefore the gift was in the speaking. The Holy Spirit fell and gave and and they spoke as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance. So now they were amazed and astonished saying, "Why are not all these who are again speaking Galatians?" So it's not the hearers, it's the speak the speakers. And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? Now notice notice the words that are used here in our own dialectto or own language of ours. So we hear in our own languages. So [snorts] what are the words that are used here in acts 2. What were the two words? The two words that refer back to even Isaiah 2 are the words laas and the word glossas. They are speaking languages. Now do we think that languages are actual languages? known languages like French. No, Laas, not Lagos. Lass, they're actual known languages like French, German, Spanish. Amen. We know that because that's what they're doing here. They're speaking known languages. So therefore, that's why I brought up this law of first mentions. So if languages if tongues means or la glossas or la or looen glossas if it means speaking in tongues then if it means something different later on follow me ladies and gentlemen if this means something different later on if there's a different interpretation we're going to need some sort of justification for it in other words if we get to another part of the Bible and someone says well yeah but these tongues are different, you're going to need something to show why they are different. Why the person who hears Paul speaking or whomever else speaking, why the person would think that what Paul's referring to is something else if he's using the same words. So, here's the formula. Las glossas equals speaking in known languages. Las glossas so far means speaking in known languages. Now, here's my question. Does anyone before we go further thus far in Acts chapter 2 based off of Isaiah 28 does anyone think that lasas does not mean speaking in a known language? Is there anyone that doesn't believe that lasas does not mean speaking a known language? So yes, I believe your your definition, Corey. No, I do not believe your definition, Corey. Yes, I believe that laas glossas equals speaking in a known language. No, I do not believe that laas glossas means speaking a known language. It can mean other things as well. So, I'm going to go with the belief that you all say yes, I do believe that laas glossas means speaking in a known language cuz thus far that's all we have. Someone says army of the lord says no, it doesn't mean that. You don't think that laas glossas means speaking in known language? Okay. Well, then based on what so far that we've read will tell you that it doesn't mean that. Thus far, I want you guys to follow what I'm saying. Thus far, do we have any reason to believe that laas glossas does not mean speaking in no lang? We don't have any reason. We don't have any basis. We don't have any basis. So, if you disagree upon what? Other than an opinion. Why? Because we're told it in Isaiah 28 when we get to Acts 2, the very same two words are used and then we actually get a chance to hear it. We see what they're saying. So those so those so those disciples, those apostles are speaking known languages. If you walk away thinking that these people are not speaking known languages, it's only because you're doing this or this because he clearly says we hear them speaking in our own languages. And then he goes through a list of languages and uh loces to which we were born. Parththeians and Mes and Elommites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, Capidoshia, Pontius and Asia, Friia and Panilia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Sirene and visitors from Rome, both Jew and proelites, Christians and Arabs. We hear them. We hear them. Look what he says. We hear them speaking in our own tongues. Loan, what's the two words again? Here it is. Lun or lasice. So we have the same two words that are there before we hear them speaking in these different languages known languages and then afterwards and then the same thing in Isaiah. So Isaiah and Acts chapter 2 are saying the same thing the same two things that the same thing that's spoken of in Isaiah 2 is the same thing that's spoken of in uh in Isaiah and Acts. Okay. So there again there's no basis. So speaking in tongues means the same thing. We speaking in a known language. Amen. Amen.

Now I want to focus some focus your attention on something. What Peter does in verse 14. Peter gets up and starts saying what was said. He starts explaining. I'll come back to that in a second because it is vitally important that you catch that. Vitally important. What we'll come back to what Peter was doing or saying later, but you've got Now, by the way, picture this. Okay. I I don't know how to answer. You said, "No, your grammar might be right, but your math is wrong." I have no idea what that means. Again, ladies and gentlemen, let me just speak to the adults and the adults only. If you're going to say I'm wrong, I don't have a problem with that. But you need to say where? How? So, give me a verse. I cannot read your mind. Okay? I'm bald, but I'm not I'm I'm not a I'm not a mind reader. Okay? Now, here we've got this understanding of the people of what's happening the next time we see this. Now, by the way, the next time that we see speaking in tongues, we we don't know for sure they're speaking in tongues. We have no idea, but we do have an idea why. This was in Acts chapter 8. And again, this keep this is accompanying with with what Jesus says that they will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in uh Judea, both Jerusalem and Judea and in Samaria and then into the uttermost parts of the world. So to the Jews first and then next to the Samaritans and then to the Gentiles and then outside of Judea. So the last people that do this is in Acts 19. This is outside of Judea in Ephesus. So now we see what Jesus sent them to do that it happens just this way. And what are they doing? They are testifying. What did Jesus say they would do? Does anybody remember what Jesus said they were going to do? I just said it. So Jesus says that they are going to testify of him. They're going to be his witnesses. As a matter of fact, he makes this statement in where? In in uh John 15 and and 16 as well. But this was prophesied also in Isaiah 28. They are going to speak about the Lord. Jesus says that when the spirit comes upon he's going to testify not of himself but of me. Jesus validates this again, reminds him again in acts one that you will be my witnesses where and then what happens they become his witnesses of Jesus in acts chapter 2. So to the Jew to the Jews in both Jerusalem and Judea and then according to Jesus they will also be they will also be witnesses of Jesus where else in Samaria and then also to the Gentiles and to the rest of the world. So is that what happened? Well, in Acts chapter 8, they came down and they prayed that they might receive the Holy Spirit for he had not yet fallen upon them and they uh they had just simply been baptized in the name of Jesus. And they began laying hands on them and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. Now, the reason why we believe they may have spoken in tongues, we don't know for a fact, but the reason why it's assumed, a couple reasons why it's assumed that they spoke in tongues. One, Simon saw something. He witnessed something to make him so that he will know that they received the Holy Spirit and it's different and again it's also in keeping with what happened in Acts 2 what keep what's keep what's happening in Acts 8 I mean 10 and what's happening in Acts 19. So that's why so if someone says no Cy they were speaking in tongues in Acts 8 I'll say fine. Now again we don't have a recorded event of them doing so. We're just making the assumption. Are you with me? So I will grant anyone that Acts 8 is an example of them speaking in tongues because again it's keeping with with what Jesus said they would do. But then Acts 10, we go to Acts 10 and what's happening there? Peter, while Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the circumcised, that's the Jews, all the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles. Like the gift had been poured out on the Samaritans, for they were hearing them doing what? What are the two words that we're looking for, ladies and gentlemen? Lass glossas. You have those two. So what do you what do you expect to see here? Lasas glossas. Here it is. For they were hearing them speaking in these languages. And what were they doing? Exaling God. So, what Jesus said they would do in Acts 15 when they received the spirit, what Jesus said they would do in in uh Acts 1 and what we saw them doing in Acts two, God was being glorified. So, these people that were speaking in these languages were glorifying God to some extent, magnifying the Lord. The exact same thing that that they're do that the apostles were doing in Acts two. Now, these Gentiles are doing so in Acts 10. And what are they doing? Magnifying the Lord. Exalting the Lord as it says here. And what are the two words again? Lasas glossas. Okay. Now, you might want to practice using those words. Las glossas. Because what I promise you is this. Every time you see speaking in tongues, you're going to see lasas. Thus far, what does what have we found out that lasas mean? Las glossas means las speaking glossas languages known languages known languages. Yeah, just if phonetically put it like that. Las glossas. Known languages. How do we know? Isaiah 28 prophesies that they will speak in these known languages. Acts 2, they speak in these known languages. We get an example of the known languages they're actually speaking. And the people tell us we hear them speaking to us in our languages. So laas glossas when you see laas glossas thus far known languages. Do we have yet a reason in acts 10 to think that those are not known languages. We do not. All we have are the exact same two words that are used there. Lasas. That's all we have. Then we see it again in Acts 19. In Acts 19 when Paul is is is relaying to them or asking them about receiving the Holy Spirit, we hadn't even heard of the Holy Spirit. And so what happens? He lays hands on them and the Holy Spirit came upon them and they began doing what? What are the two words we're looking for again, ladies and gentlemen? Lasas glossas. And there they are. And what were they doing? Prophesying. Do we know specifically what they said? No, we don't. We have we don't know what they were prophesying. But according to Jesus in John 15 and according to Jesus in Acts 1 and the pattern that we see in Acts two and the pattern that we see in Acts 10, what prophesying must they have been doing? Because what does prophecy mean? It means to tell, to utter, to inform, to reveal of or from God. So what do you think they were doing? the same thing. The spirit came upon them and they began speaking of or magnifying or in this case telling, informing, revealing of God. This is all keeping in line with the prophecy and the examples. Amen. And again, what were those two words that we see there? Lasas. The same two words. Again, known languages. How do we know that these are known languages? Because these known languages are identifiable by by the prophecy, the magnification of the Lord exalting God, what have you. That's what they are. So they have to be known languages. No one at this time is saying, "I don't know what you said. Whatever they spoke, it's known what they spoke." Is everyone with me so far? Does anyone disagree? Thus far, can anyone say that one, they're not known languages, and two, the people don't know what's being said? Cuz in all these cases, it's known languages and people know what's being said, which is how you know it's a known language. It's a known language cuz people know what's being said. Amen. Amen.

So, thus far we've covered Acts 28, Mark 16, Acts 2, Acts, you can put an asterk besides Acts 8, Acts 10, and Acts 19. As I said earlier, all of the times where uh speaking in tongues exist, 21 times in the Bible, only 21, think about it, we make a big deal out of this, but only 21 times do we see people with this phrase laas glossas in the Bible. It happens in 19 different verses in seven chapters in three books really two in the New Testament and then one also in the Old Testament which is prophesying what's going to happen in the New Testament and then only a few people who we see who actually spoke in tongues and then only twice do we see do we have the recorded events of what was of what was happening what was said only in Acts 2 and in Acts 10, Acts 19, we don't know what was said, just that we get the general um uh uh moniker or the I'm sorry, the g the general tag that they were prophesying. Amen. So now when we go to the next part, so far we've only gone through Isaiah, Mark, and first Corin I mean and Acts. Now we go to first Corinthians. in first Corinthians starting in 12. We'll do a little bit of reading here. Now, concerning uh the spiritual gifts or the the true word is numaticon. Brethren, I do not want you to be unaware or ignorant. Paul says, I do not want you to be ignorant. Unaware, unknowing. How so? Paul, you know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to mute idols. Uh let's pause here for a second because we haven't really spent a lot of time on this. You were led away to mute idols however you were led. What is Paul's point here in saying now this is my interpretation so you all may disagree but you were led away to mute idols. Meaning what? Now is it possible that Paul is saying you have an idol of speaking? Now you have an idol, but now your idol is a little bit different. You idolize. Listen, I'll say this over and over again and until someone proves me wrong. Too many people idolize tongues. Tongues becomes what they live for. Tongues satisfies them. Tongues satiates their mind. It makes them feel good. When they're not doing well, they can make themselves feel like they're doing well by speaking in tongues. Even though they don't know what they're saying, but Paul says, and Paul says, I don't want you to be ignorant. You know that he becomes an idol when I don't see you anywhere ever watching these videos or in the chats, but the moment tongues come up, there are five, at least five people I can point to. One happens to be in the chat right now, won't say your name. Actually, I'm sorry. There might be two, but at least one in the chat right now who have not seen hide nor hair when we're covering salvation or we're covering um hermeneutics or we're covering fasting or anything else, but tongues pop up. You can't push the button fast enough to get there. This is where you might you you might even be right. You might even be right, but you're idolizing what you're right about. And the sad part is you might be idolizing what you're wrong about. That happens a lot. It happens a lot. Marcus Rogers is one of those people who idolizes tongues. Makes them feel better with all the bad doctrine. The tongues make it the tongues covers all of the bad doctrine being spoken of. So he says possibly you guys might be idolizing something because you were idolizing mute idols. You were led astray by mute idols. Idols that didn't talk. This word right here aona. The other word is phona or phon which is a sound or speaking. That's what this word means. Phon it means to speak or a sound. Ah is the negation of it. So something that didn't speak. Now however on the contrary though you're being led astray by something regarding speaking. How do I know? Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking what's the word? So, no one speaking by the spirit of God says Jesus is a curse. Why? Because apparently people are saying Jesus is a cursed. Saved people, people with the spirit are saying Jesus is a curse. How could that be? Because you're saying words that you have no idea what you're saying. That's why Paul says, "I don't want you to be ignorant."

Now, I'm going to pause in a little bit and and and and take some questions, but just up to the point that we've gotten thus far, okay? Because the rest of chapter 12 and 14 are going to elicit more responses, which is fine. But he now notice though, because we're going to find out that even though Paul is admonishing them for saying things ignorantly, Paul doesn't say you're not saved. So, ladies and gentlemen, let me just say this also. You can have a brother and sister in the Lord who loves tongues and might be utilizing tongues incorrectly but still be a brother and sister because Paul says you have this zeal but and but he still equates them as being brothers brethren in the Lord. Amen. So if we disagree with this, if we have disagreements on this, fine. Amen. These aren't disagreements that causes us to not be brother and certain. And so I want you guys to make sure that you keep your your heightened level, your intensity, your anger, your your emotions, keep them in check. If you're not if you can't keep your op your your emotions in check and we're just talking and you're just typing, then that might be an indication that you might not be saved. Why would I say that? Because having the Holy Spirit, especially if you're so overcome with the spirit of speak in tongues or prophesy or what have you, but you don't have the ability to be calm, to have self-control, then somebody's lying. Somebody's lying. So, whatever side of the aisle you're on, make sure that you're able to have godly self-control. Amen. So, now back to the text. He says, "No one by the spirit can say Jesus is a cursed and no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." So you got folks who who have the spirit who say Jesus is Lord and those same folks seem to be saying Jesus is a curse. He's saying you are speaking. This is coming out of your mouth and what's coming out of your mouth is ignorance. That was Paul's point. Now there are varieties of gifts and the same spirit and there are varieties of ministries and the same Lord. There are varieties of effect but the same God who works all things in persons but to each one is given the manifestation of the spirit for the common good. So the manifestation of the spirit the dumatic is for the benefit of everybody for other people. Amen. It's not for you according according to this text here just just according to this text according to this text. Now there's other texts that we we can look at but it's for the benefit of others. For to one is given you don't do you don't make if you if you make yourself do these gift if you are causing yourself to exercise in these gifts. If you are causing yourself to do these things right here you're violating the text. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by one spirit, and to another the effective of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another distinguishing of spirits, and to another various kinds of tongues. So, what's the word that's used here in various kinds of tongues? It's not the same two words, lasas. It's not in this case it is glossas is still there but this word gane is there. This why we're going to pause just a second. Why why is that important? Why is the word ga glo gloone

important? Because previously we were talking as though speaking in tongues means speaking in a known language. So if speaking in tongues means speaking in a known language, Paul makes it even clearer here because if we're talking about the same thing, Christopher, I just follow along. We haven't gotten there yet. I know. I don't know if you came in late. Just follow along. I understand you're excited about this, but slow down. We haven't gotten there yet. Okay? Don't try to argue and prove your point in the text before we got there. All right?

Notice what Paul is saying though. This phrase here, *ga glosso*. What is the word *gane*? *Gane* is kind. It refers to a type or a race or even a family, an offspring. It can refer to ethnicity. So what kind of tongues or languages is Paul referring to? He's referring to known languages and to another, the interpretation of those languages.

Now the word for interpretation, *hera*, where we get our words *hermeneutic*. So *hermeneutic* or *hermeneia* means to explain. So the interpretation of tongues means to explain those very languages. Here's where some people might disagree, but you don't have a basis because the Bible doesn't say one way or the other. *Hera* or interpretation or explaining the text doesn't say that it has to be someone different. So it is possible that the very same person that speaks it can also explain it. And I know that may come across as a bit shady where the person gets up and speaks in tongues and says, "Oh, the Lord says this and says that or whatever." But there is a way to figure out if that is correct because I know what you're thinking. Uh, Cla got up in church today and he spoke in tongues for about five minutes. Uh, and then he explained it and it took him one minute to explain what he said. He said the same five words for five minutes straight and then said that it means this like, well, that doesn't even make sense. But fine, but fine, but fine. How can we know if Clavus was under the spirit or Clavus just got excited? We'll cover that as well.

But one and the same spirit works all these things. So who's doing these things? The word *in gay*. He's the one that's working. Who's the he? The spirit. The spirit is working these things. Look what he says. Distributing to each one individually just as he wills. That word *bulami* or in this case *bulletai*, it is his decision. It's his determination. It's his planning. It's his appointing. This is God, the spirit, is doing these things right now. Not, not you. It's the Lord doing. The spirit is he's the one that's doing it. Amen.

So now I want to pause for a second. Threw a lot at you. Let's see what your questions are and let us continue. Um, I can't right now. If you, if I, I [clears throat] I'll try to come back and do it. Um, can you read the Greek when it comes to Peter and Philip opening their mouths and witnessing to the Ethiopian, Ethiopian, and Cornelius? Uh, mouth in Greek means I can't right now because I, I want to, I want to stay on on this. Um, but if you remind me, I'll try to come back to this. Um, thank you, Boogie Johnson. I thank you. Um, when did it become this nonsense today? I don't remember all this going on in the 80s. It was picking up. This the issue regarding tongues has picked up more and more. Uh, again, more and more and more Christians identify themselves as charismatic. Here's my take on it. My take on it is because Paul said the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine and they will have itching ears and they will find people to preach and teach what they want them to hear. And so you go to a place that tells you what you want to hear. Oh, by the way, they also speak in tongues and so it makes sense. Well, so we go along with this. So, so I'm a tongue speaker because the church that I go to is a tongue speaker and there are more and more churches that are speaking tongues. There are more and more preachers that are speaking tongues, which which makes you wonder what was the Holy Spirit doing previous to the early, I mean, to the late, the early 1900s? Not to say that there was no one that spoke in tongues before then, but not to this extent. So the Holy Spirit just waited until the 1900s and waited in Western civilization to do so. Meanwhile, you go to places even now where there's a lot of persecution and you don't see nowhere near this level of tongues. So there are some, um, extra-biblical reasons to to kind of doubt what's happening because again, if I go to Yemen and no one's speaking in tongues but there are Christians that are over there. If I go to Syria and there are Christians who are persecuted and they're not speaking in tongues. If I go to North Korea or some prison in China and there are Christians that are there because there are Christians and they're not speaking in tongues. They're full of the spirit. It makes you wonder. It, it does. It causes you to think, huh? I'm wondering.

All right. Uh, take a few more questions. Okay. The day of Pentecost, uh, was important to spread the gospel through languages to people outside of Hebrews. Uh, we are all products. Amen. Amen. Um, God is going to, God uses that day, uh, in two ways. As a witness, like what Jesus says, and as a sign of judgment, which we're going to cover as well because remember, remember that's what Isaiah speaks about. It'll be as a witness. Anytime you open your mouth and declare the truth of God, it's a, it's a witness. But then also for a specific people as judgment. Why is that? Well, in Acts and in Mark, who are either the speakers or the audience? Who's the speaker or the audience? Every time someone is speaking in tongues in Mark, in Acts 2, even in Acts 8, in Acts, uh, 10, and in Acts 19, there's a Jewish audience that are there. And what happens? The Jews marveled. So there would be this sign of judgment because that nation still won't believe. That nation still won't repent. Amen.

Um, I've asked it before. Why is it that that these defenders of tongues never have interpretation? And I'm going to come back to that as well. I think that's a good question. Now, some of them will say that they do. Uh, in addition, why is it that the tongue speaker doesn't have the ability to speak foreign languages? Well, when you first see it, when you see Charles Parham do this, that's what he thought that his tongues were going to be, that his tongues were going to be, um, giving them the ability to go and witness to people in other countries. And so the problem was they went to China and other places to try to witness. And the people said, "Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. This is, this is gibberish." And he was a little distraught. But then the per, the people who were following him came back much like the same way that happened with the Seventh Day Adventists. Um, we prophesied and said this is going to be this way and it doesn't show, then we got to fix it. We got to save face. And the way they saved face was that these were heavenly languages, that these were spiritual tongues. That's kind of how they come up with it. Louise, thank you so much for this for the super chat. Let's go back to it. Uh, wait, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Do you have any more questions? Anyone before I continue? Do we have any more questions related to what we're talking about thus far? Not chapter 14 yet or the latter part of 12. Do you have any questions thus far? How many tongues are there in the Bible? We're getting ready to cover that. That's where we're going. Some are going to have a contention that there are, um, there's a, a prayer tongue, that there's a, a public tongue and a private tongue, that there's a tongue that's done in church and a tongue that's done at home, uh, that, that there is a tongue to other people or speaking in, uh, angelic languages. So, we're going to look and see if the text says that. That's a good question. Okay. Uh, let's see. I'm trying to see if there's any other questions before, before we go. Um, and again, don't ask questions about 14 just yet or the latter part of 12 because we're going into there yet. But thus far, the question I want to ask is, so far, our working definition is that *las glossas* refers to speaking a known language. Now, is there anyone that disagrees with that? How do, how do you respond to people who are critical of of you pointing this out, accusing you of separating the body? I asked them to give me defense. Now, I'm all I'm doing, if if a person thinks that me pointing this out is separating the body, well then that person must have a problem with Paul. All I'm doing is reading Paul's words or Luke's words. I'm, I'm just reading the Bible. So, if a person has a problem with that, what it is is when you have a weak argument or no argument, often times it's got, you got to resort to something else. When your argument cannot be based in the scriptures, you got to resort to something else. So, as I'm reading the text, I'm, I'm simply reading the text. And by the way, that was an interesting point the other person made is that you never hear some of these same folks who will agree that tongues are also, they can also be languages. But how come God has never in your life caused you to speak a different language? You only speak this heavenly language. You've never spoken, uh, French, un, just because someone in France or really, I'm sorry, some Jew needed to hear it because that part is important. We always leave out the part that was always there because remember speaking in a known language and what did, what did Isaiah say the purpose of it is and what do we see happening in Acts? We, and Mark as well, we see Jews present to either reject or accept. So those two things are always there. Go back and look at the text every time, or at least thus far, thus far as we read the text. Does anyone, does anyone disagree with my definition and even my rationale according to the text? I say that *las glossas*, those same two words, means speaking in a known language and then the purpose of it is, what's the purpose? What's the point? It is a witness, but more importantly also as a judgment for Israel. There are Jews who are watching. So there's going to come a point in time, you have to say, well, wait a second, um, who are you witnessing to and where's the judgment? Where's the unbelieving Jew at? We will come to. All I've done thus far is read the text. So if we, so thus far in the middle of verse 12 of chapter 12, I mean, the middle, the middle of chapter 12, thus far we have a working definition. All right. Now, I'm, I've tried to ask you as, as, as adultly so, made up word as possible. When you say you disagree, I've said before, tell me why you disagree. What makes you think that *laascll glossas* does not mean speaking in a known language? What makes you think that is not as a, as a, as a witness, a testimony, and to bring about judgment or a sign of judgment against a Jew? What makes you think that when we've covered that? It's a known language because Isaiah 28 says so. Acts 2 says so. Bears it out. Acts 10, Acts 19. There are Jews present every time. You say it's not. So the problem is, ladies and gentlemen, that often times we are so in, we are so ingrained and so stuck in our belief, y'all forgive me for saying this, but some folks are like, to hell with what the scriptures say. I don't care what the scriptures say. I know you're reading the scriptures, but I don't care. I never said, did I ever say they were speaking 12 languages? Did I, did I ever say speaking, they were speaking 12 languages? Did I never said that. I don't. What happens is you walk in and you want to hear something that's not being stated. I'm only reading the text. That's all I'm doing. I'm just reading the text. I never said, not once did I say they were speaking 12 languages. I just said it was 12 apostles there on the day of Pentecost who were speaking languages. And the people who were hearing it tells us what. So they all were speaking the exact same thing because they all, the word back is that we hear them speaking the same thing. That's kind of a modern thing, Vincent. This notion of stirring up the Holy Spirit. You can't, you can't stir up the Holy Spirit. You can't stir up the Holy Spirit at all. Now, you can stir up somebody's gifting, but not the kind of gifting that you're talking that others are talking about. But there, there's that notion is a brand new notion.

So, now continuing, it's the Holy Spirit, and I want to, I stop here for a reason because I want to pick back up here in a reason. It's the Holy Spirit who, who, uh, is distributing as he wills. So, for example, if we're talking about tongues, you cannot biblically make yourself speak in tongues. You cannot go and say, "I'm going to pray in tongues." If that's you doing so, if you are the generator of this, then does that go against when he says distributing to each one individually just as he wills? Because again, the examples that we've seen in Acts 2 and in, if we say Acts 8 and if we say Acts 10 and Acts 19, which of those people knew that they would speak in tongues previous to speaking in tongues? None. All four of those groups are people who spoke in tongues having no indication that they would speak in tongues before it. None. The, the apostles didn't know they were speaking tongues. They weren't told that. The, um, those in in Samaria, they didn't know that. The Gentiles in 10 didn't know that. John the Baptist's disciples in John 19, I mean Acts 19, they didn't know that. So this again, which validates the spirit moves, gives utterance as he wills.

Now the problem that's happening here in First Cor, in in the church of Corinth, is that people are trying to determine which part of the body, which spiritual gift. And I get it. Listen, I get it. We have little fun little conversations. Man, if you had a superpower, which superpower would you like to have? Would you rather be able to be invisible or to read people's minds or to move people or the ability to fly or the ability to have super strength? You know, we're just little kid games, but we do the same thing here. What would you rather be? Would you rather be wealthy or would you rather be handsome? Right? What would you rather be, um, would you rather be the, uh, uh, the the strongest person in the world or bald? Right? So we always fight and battle over these hypothetical powers or benefits we can have. The same thing is happening here in this period. Now Paul is writing, remember the purpose of Paul writing this letter is Paul is wanting for there to be a, a church of unity, that that there be no division. So he's writing the letter church, Cor, the church of Corinth. Paul is writing a letter to admonish them. Paul is not writing saying that you guys are doing a wonderful job. Paul is not praising them. Paul's not saying you guys are, are awesome. I wish all the churches was like you. That is not what Paul is doing. Paul is writing to tell them that hey, you guys are behaving like carnal people. Not that you are, but you're behaving like carnal people. You're dividing yourself up. There's divisions among you. That's what he says in First in chapter one that I don't want there to be any divisions among you. So he wants, he wants there to be unity. He also brings about, he brings up this, the same notion of division and unity as it relates to the family, marriages and divorce and so forth. Then when we get to chapter 12, he's bringing up the same issue about unity and division as it relates to the *numaticon* or as it relates to spiritual gifts. That's why he says, "Now concerning spiritual gifts," or "Now concerning the *numaticum*." Are you guys with me so far?

So when we get to chapter 12, chapter 12, verse 12, what's he doing? He's trying to bring up an analogy that everybody can understand. We are all part of the same body and no part of the body is better off or greater than the other part of the body. Why is he saying that? Because it goes along, it coincides with this issue of spiritual gifts. You guys are zealous for gifts. And so he's going to end up saying, "Strive for the gifts that edify." That's what you want. You want the gifting that edifies, that builds up others. Because if that's what you want, the, the gifting that builds up others, you will do so in a humble fashion. Which is why he says, he brings up chapter 13 about love. Whatever you do, it ought to be done out of love. And so he says, "For even the body, even as the body is one and yet many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body. For by one spirit, we were all baptized into the body, whether Jew or Greek, whether slave or or free, we were all made to drink of one spirit." So his point is, when one says, "If I'm the foot, the foot, if the foot says I am not a hand and I am not a part of the body, it is not for this reason any the less part of the body." So because I don't speak in tongues, I'm not less than the person who does. Or because I don't prophesy, that doesn't mean because I, I'm good at administrations or I'm good at helping people, that's what I like to do, that I'm less off. Some of these particular gifts get noticed. Some of the way that the spirit works in some people causes them to be noticed. Some of these things, people also use these very same gifts to do what? Either get patted on the back by others or pat themselves on the back because they wear it kind of as a sign, as a badge of honor. And he says the, the, the parts of the body that are more dishonorable are actually the ones that you ought to think as more honorable. That's what Paul is saying so far. Have I misunderstood what Paul is saying here? If you think I'm misunderstanding what Paul is saying here, let me know. But I think, I think it's pretty clear, pretty straightforward that what Paul is saying here is we are all part of the same body. Stop jockeying for certain portions of certain gifts. Just like we see this now. Notice what Paul is bringing up. Tongues, prophecy. Jesus brings up prophecy, casting out demons. What are the things that we struggle with now? People want to these abuses, whether you think they're real or not. These are the very same gifts or the actions or moves of the spirit that we still struggle with now. I'm, I'm, I cast out demons on a regular basis. Now, not in my house and not in my neighborhood and not in my city and not in the bad neighborhoods, but I do it all the time. Okay, fine. I [snorts] I speak in tongues all the time. Yeah, I got bad credit. Yeah, my wife and I are having problems. Yeah, my kids are in jail or on drugs, but I speak in tongues all the time. I prophesy all the time. The Lord is, I'm, I got a prophetic ministry even though I keep making bad financial decisions. I got bad credit and I'm living at home with my great-grandpa. Yeah. All these things, you have, you have these other external, um, noticeable things you say of the spirit, but your life doesn't seem very spirit-filled. Your, your fruit of the spirit is in contrast to what you claim to be your gifting of the spirit. I know that's a little bit off topic, but let's just be, let's be honest. Tell the truth, shame the devil. You are so spiritual here, but then we pull back the curtains, come home, you got all kind of issues. You're in debt up to your eyeballs. No one on the job likes you. You hadn't led, you hadn't led five people to Christ in 50 years. This is how we can just look and see. Yeah, you're not, you're not telling the truth. One of these things didn't like the other. So Paul is speaking about the point, the purpose of the body and what the, what the body is for. And oh, by the way, whenever something happens in the body, another part of the body comes to render aid. What do I mean? You've all done it before. You all have at some point in time stubbed your toe. If you stubbed your pinky toe, sometimes you wonder what the purpose of the pinky toe is. Well, the pinky toe, if it wasn't there, that other toe right beside it would then be the pinky toe and you would stub it. So, the pinky toe is to protect the other toe from getting stubbed. The pinky toe is the, is the wall. It's the protection of the other toe. That outside part of the toe that gets that giant bunion, yeah, that's to protect the rest of the toe. But if you stub that toe, your other toes don't come to aid. If you stub your pinky toe, your pinky toe is not going to heal itself or comfort it. You know what you're going to do? You're going to use your hands. If you hurt your elbow, this elbow, if I scratch it, can't help itself. The rest of my body has to come and help. Right? If you eat something bad, the rest of your body has to kick in and do something. Right? The purpose of the body, of each part of the body, is to help out with the other body and it, it is to grow the body, keep the body healthy as it does its job, as it fulfills its purpose. Amen. Amen. So whatever you think is weaker, nope. On the contrary, those things are not weaker. So stop looking at, stop jockeying for because again, we don't have this problem, ladies and gentlemen. We don't have people fighting over or bragging about how much they are, how how loving they are. We don't have those problems. We only seem to jockey over certain gifts. But every time, oh, by the way, let me just say this as well. Here's another, here's another fact that no one has ever disputed or found scripture to dispute what I'm saying. If it's regarding tongues, if it's regarding prophecy, if it's regarding healing, if it's regarding casting out demons, whatever, every move of the spirit is accompanied by everyone else noticing. So, wherever this move of the spirit happens, everybody knows it's the spirit. Just take your Bible and go from Genesis to Revelation. And I would challenge you to find one example where the spirit moved and the people who were there, the surrounders didn't know. When the spirit moves, he's, he's not a secret agent. The people that are there, they know it. That's, they, they know for a fact. Now, they might deny it like the Pharisees and say, "This is, this is of the power of Beelzebub." But there's others around that know. In Acts, when these things were happening, everyone knew. These people are coming, they, these disciples, these apostles, they're tearing, they're turning the world upside down. As a matter of fact, even the unbelievers knew. So every time the spirit moves, people know. So if you're speaking in tongues and nobody knows, including the unbelievers. So if I hear you speaking in tongues, whether I agree or disagree, whether I'm, I'm a believer or a doubter, I'll still know because that's what happens when the spirit moves. He leaves no doubt. Amen. Amen. Someone can disagree, but you don't have a biblical basis for it. So, if you disagree with me, you take an unbiblical stance. Amen. Amen.

Now, let's continue. As we drop down, notice what he says. Remember what I said the purpose of this book is? The purpose of this book is that there would be no divisions, but unity. So Paul says, "So that there may be in verse 25, no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care one for another." So what I'm saying so far, what I've been saying is true. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer. If one is honored, then all members rejoice with it. Now you are Christ's body and individually members of it. Let's drop down. He talks about what he has appointed, but he says he's also appointed gifts, miracles, then gifts. Gifts of healing, helps, administration. No one is, hey, I've got the gift of administration. I've got the gift of helping people. I've got the, okay, we don't see that. We're not saying, "Hey, no, that's a false gift." No one says that because no one is clamoring for that. You're not waking up looking for opportunities to help people, but you're waking up looking for opportunities to pray in tongues. Look what he says. Also, various kinds of tongues. What's that word again? Let's, let's highlight it again. *Glossom*. What's the word? Types, kinds. It's an ethnic race, a family of languages. And he says, "Everyone's not an apostle. Everyone's not a prophet." So what's the point? Now we know what he's speaking of because what did he say? Now I want you to pay attention to something. Here's how we know *ga gloss* is the same as *la glossa*. How do we know? Because *ga glossi* is what he said, um, he's given some people to do. Then when he says, "not all do those things," how do you think Paul is going to describe that we all don't speak in these other languages? First of all, before I go, does anyone think that *ga glossi* does not refer to an actual language? Is anyone saying that? Does anyone think that *ga glossi* does not refer to an actual language? Is there anyone before I continue? This is important. Is there anyone in the chat who thinks that *ga glossi* or *gloone* in this case does not refer to an actual ethnic or known language like French, German, Spanish, Swahili, Mandarin? Does, is there anyone that disagrees with that thus far? It's important if you don't, if you say, "Corey, I disagree with that. *Ga negalosi* Paul is not talking about known languages, ethnic languages, dialects, what have you. French, German, Spanish, English, um, American, Canadian." [laughter] "There's a guy said, 'I, I speak, I don't speak your language. I speak Canadian.'" Okay. Or I don't, I, no, I speak Mexican. I'll never forget the guy was having conversations. What, what do you speak? English or do you speak Mexican? This guy said, he said, "One of us speaks English. The other one I don't know what you speak, but." So, does anyone disagree? So far, I don't know what it means. [gasps and sighs] He says, "No, it means heaven language." That a known language. So, you're saying heavenly language is a known language. I'm going to ask you to back that up. Army of the Lord, you have no scripture. I'll prove it to you. And I'll prove to you that *ga gloi* is an actual language. It's an earthly known [clears throat] language. How do I know? Because that's what the word *ga* is referring to. That's what it's referring to. Now, how do we know that *ga glossi* is the same as *la glossias*? Because look what he says in referring to that he comes back and says regarding that there are these various kinds of tongues or various kinds of languages. He said, "Not all, not all speak in these languages." *May pontes*, that's not all. So everyone does not speak in these *glossas las glossas*. So what, what have we discovered thus far? We've, we've shown thus far that *las glossas* thus far has only ever meant known languages. Do you have an example thus far? Before we go any further, anyone of *las glossas* meaning anything but or being referred to anything but a known earthly language. Is there any example before we go past 1 Corinthians chapter 12? Is there any example of that? No, there's not. There's not one example where anyone can say, "Yeah, this is not, this use of this word or these two words is not a known earthly language." Why is that important, Corey? Glad you asked. Because no one in the Bible listening to Paul or hearing from Luke would have guessed that either. They would have all guessed the same. They've come to the same conclusion we've come to because that's how the word is used. So, here you are in first century, um, AD. You're, you're, you're part, you are there when the church is being founded and all you ever know is that these languages are known earthly languages. So if you come back and say, "No, they're not." Where do you get that from? Other than some pastor, some preacher, someone, some bishop, some prophet, some apostle somewhere said that, you don't get that from the scriptures. You just don't. So you would be making an unbiblical, not that you're unbiblical, but your statement, the mere fact that it's not found in the Bible, un, not biblical. It's not in the Bible. Unbiblical. So all don't speak in tongues. So by the way, mark that down as a rule. Some of the rules regarding tongues are that not all speak in these, these languages. Just like all don't interpret, all don't prophesy, all don't heal. Amen.

Now again, what does he follow this up? Uh, "but earnestly desire the greater gifts." And I will show you a more excellent way. I want you guys to move and proceed in the right fashion. But in order to do so, you must desire the greater gifting. And so what does Paul follow that up with? Love. Now, here's where someone is going to say chapter 13 that he's speaking of a known language. I mean, a, a heavenly language. The problem is, if this is a heavenly language, what's missing when you read this text? Now, I want you guys to do some thinking here. This is where your brain gets suspending. This is where you become apologetics or you, you become apologists. "If I speak with the tongue of men and angels." So someone say, "See, that's a heavenly language. That's an angelic language." How can we deduce or determine that this is not a heavenly language? While you're thinking in this context, what is Paul, I mean, what's missing? What's missing here in this part? If we say that, if I speak with the tongues of men and tongues of angels, what makes you, what's the reason for thinking that this is a heavenly language? What's the reason, the basis for thinking that this is an angelic language? Well, couple of things. Number one, what two words have we been focusing on? *Las glossas*. So, that's not there, is it? It's not there. But then also this whole notion of tongues of men and tongues of angels. Does the Bible ever speak of tongues of anybody else? Here's a question. If tongues of angels means the, the language of angels, an actual known angelic language, then what is a tongue of an adulteress? Is that its own specialized language? Because the Bible says to keep you from the evil woman, from the smooth, same word, same phrase, "tongue of the adulteress." Is, is there a such language, a such language as a tongue of an adulteress? Is there an actual language called the tongue of a lang? They have their own language. You can't understand it. Their words are different. No, he's referencing how they speak, not the actual dialect or language they speak. What about the tongue of the righteous? Is the, is the way, is the tongue of the righteous different than the tongue of the unrighteous? No. Especially English. The tongue of the English unrighteous and the tongue, tongue of the English righteous. Same language. That's why he says, "The tongue of the righteous is as choice as silver." As a choice silver. So, he's not referring to a different type of dialect or language. How about the tongue of the wise? All we got to do is go to the scripture and just use this play out. If there's a tongue of angels, if that's a different type of language that angels speak, then the tongue of the wise is a different type of language than unwise people speak. Because he says, "But the tongue of the wise brings healing." So what language is that? Well, what language do you speak? In this case, Hebrew. Here's one. Therefore, as a tongue of fire. Well, what's a tongue of fire? Wh, what's the tongue of fire then? Oh, the fire has its own language. I mean, if, if you're going to be consistent and biblical, what about the tongue of the sea of Egypt? What kind of language is that? Oh, that was that marine creatures, marine spears. Destroy the tongue of the sea of Egypt. See, the, the problem that we're having, lang, ladies and gentlemen, is if you're not going to be consistent and biblical, then you are on shaky ground. You're, you're literally making things up. So the tongue of angels is not some special language that, that in, that, that angels speak. Here's one. No, I can't use this one. This, this is different. That, that, that's a different one. It's going to be funny, but it's different. But the Lord God has given me the tongue of disciples. What, what language is that? The actual tongue of disciples. What is that? This is how disciples speak. Not an actual, um, ethnic language itself, not its own language itself. Let me try this real. By the way, here's another problem that, that you're going to run into. Now, you can, you can be inclined to disagree. That, that part is fine. Army of the Lord says it's a language that existed and still does and it's unknown. You disagree with that? So, let's take this person who is just vehement in his disagreement. First of all, let the record show that Army of the Lord, every, every time you put a, a comment, you don't back it up with scripture. So my question is going to be, how do you know that there is a language that angels speak? How do you know that there is a language that angels speak? As a matter of fact, can anyone help him out? Can anyone help him out and and and prove to him if you're on his side that there isn't a language that angels speak? You can't. There's no such thing. Now, I'm not saying there isn't, but you can't say there is. Cuz you know why? Because there's no biblical example of angels speaking in a different language. Because what do we have in the Bible, friend? In the Bible, we have angels speaking in whatever language the person who he is speaking to. So if he's speaking to David, how is the angel speaking? In Hebrew. If he's speaking to Daniel, how is he speaking in Hebrew? Or he might be speaking in some dialect, uh, of Arab, of Aramaic. If he's speaking in Greek to the person in Greek, he speaks to them in Greek. Here's how you can even know the point. When God, who resides in heaven, does God ever speak to you? And do you ever speak to God? My question is, how do you speak to him? How does God speak to you? He speaks to you in the language that you listen, that that you understand. You speak to him the same. So everywhere in the Bible, every angel and God has only ever spoken to the person in the language that they speak in. And every person who's ever spoken to God or an angel has only ever spoken to them in their own native language. So the lang, the, the language of angels is the exact same language you would understand. Do not find yourself making things up. Continuing. So if I speak with the tongue of men and of angels but don't have love, then what does it say? You're no good. Lousying. See, now watch this. This, this why I'm, I'm glad we've had an hour or so to cover to set our groundwork. You say, "No, they hear it in their own language." You already agreed earlier that they, that the people who hear, I mean, that hear languages. It's the person speaking. It ain't the hearing. I don't hear it in my own language. In other words, that I change it. So if I speak English and someone comes speaking in tongues, something spiritually happens where I take what they said in that whatever language and translate it in my ears in English. That's not what happens. And again, you can't make that point up biblically. No, they hear it in their own language. You're proving the point of the 12. I don't think you get it. I don't, I don't, I think you're, you're just stuck on this. And that's fine. That's fine. So he says, if you do these things, by the way, Paul also said that you must have understanding. Write that down as another rule. There must be understanding. If tongues are spoken and there's no understanding, they are what you would call illegitimate tongues. Amen.

Now, love is patient. Love is kind. Is not jealous. Love does not brag about or is not arrogant. Does not act unbecoming. Does not seek its own, which a lot of folks who speak in tongues seem to want to seek their own. Um, does not rejoice. Let's drop down, drop down, drop down. Love never fails. But if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away with. If there are tongues, they will cease. And if there is knowledge, it will be done away with. By the way, what do all three of those things have in common? Prophecy, tongues, and knowledge. All of them are to speak coming out of the mouth. When will those things be done away with? When there's no need for you to reveal anything. No need for your knowledge to help anyone else out. There's no need for that. And so when will tongues, if tongues are, remember what's the purpose of tongues? See, if the purpose of tongues is to make you more spiritual, well then there'd be no need for that to go away. But if the purpose of tongues are is to as a, as a witnessing sign to bring judgment to Israel or to the Jews, there's going to point come a point in time when there is no need for that. Right? So as we continue, let's drop down and look at how he ends this. He says, "But now faith, hope, and love abide these things, but the greatest is love." Chapter 14. Thus far as we go into chapter 14, there is no example of anyone speaking *las* in the Bible of anything other than a known language. Are we clear? Are we correct? Am I correct? Is there any example of anyone in the Bible before we get to chapter 14 of anyone speaking in an unknown language? Of anyone speaking in an unknown earthly language? Is there any example? There is no example. And thus far the only thing that they would have ever associated with that term, those two words, *las glossas*, the only two things when we see these words right here, *las* and *glossas*, or in this case, *lon gloce*, the only thing that they would have ever interpreted those words to mean would be a known earthly language. That's it. So, what's going to have to happen is people are going to say that they're, that that we're speaking about some different tongues now. So, now we're going to take what we know and what's been demonstrated and change the meaning based off of what? No text, no historical data.

So he says, "Pursue love, yet earnestly desire the *numaticon*, especially or in order that or more in order that you do what?" What's the reason for desiring the *numaticon*? So that you would prophesy. He doesn't mean prophesy in terms of the gift of prophecy. He means *prophetuete* in terms of the gift of revealing, informing, telling people. Why? Because every spiritual gift, the basis of the spiritual gifts, like Jesus says, is to witness of him. Every gift is, go look at the text and go look at the examples. When you see these gifts show up, Christ is being magnified. The Lord is being witnessed. Amen. Amen. So the word *prophete* means to tell, to utter, to inform. He's not asking that you become a prophet. That's not what he's saying. Okay? Now, and the reason why we know that is because this phrase right here, rather the purpose of it is in order that you prophesy. Why did Jesus come? In order that *henna* that those believing would never perish. That's the point. So when you see *henna* followed by the, the, the verb, this is the reason why he's doing so. In order that you prophesy.

Now look what he says. This is where it c, everything goes goes haywire for some people. "For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God." So, so far our definition, our working definition is a known earthly language. What's the word? What are the two words that are used here? *Las glossas* or in this case *lung gloss*. You're not speaking to man but instead you're speaking to God. Well, we've got some rules that we've been establishing thus far. We've been going through this and we've been noticing some rules. Not my rules, but the rules that, uh, the Bible has put out. One of the rules is that there must be understanding. That he doesn't want you to be ignorant. There must be understanding. Okay. [snorts] We also found out, we also know that every spiritual gift, including this, is to do what? According to Paul when he first broaches this conversation in 12, it is to build up other people, to build up the body. Now, for the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God. Now, here's a question. I say, I think, I think that what Paul is doing is admonishing people for doing things out of order, incorrectly. If you think Paul is doing is, is, is admonishing or or is congratulating them saying that what you're doing is correct, then doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of the Bible? I mean, not the Bible of this, uh, this chapter and of this book. What, what then in chapter 14 is Paul admonishing? He starts off talking about gifts about not doing things or saying things ignorantly. So Paul is going to address them for saying something ignorantly, unknowingly. Don't you think there's going to come a point in time where he addresses them saying something unknowingly or ignorantly? Don't you think so? This is what he's doing. So, how I would read this, you may disagree, but see if how I read, how I read this makes sense. For the one who, who, who, uh, speaks in a tongue, by the way, this is a singular tongue, um, speaks in a tongue, does not speak to men, but speaks to God. Nobody. All you're doing, you're not, you're not speaking to man. You're just speaking to God. What's he saying? No one understands you. Only God knows what you're saying. If I ever tell you, "Only God knows what you're saying," or something along those lines, you will never take that as a compliment. So if I see you in the chat and you're just saying some things, "Only God knows what you're saying." "Only God knows what you're saying." That's what Paul is saying. But in his spirit, he speaks mysteries. Wait a second. Should we be speaking mysteries? Paul just said, "I don't want you to be ignorant." Ladies and gentlemen, do you know what a mystery is? No, you don't. You're uninformed. You're ignorant. What does Paul, what does the Bible call the person who's uninformed? Who is un, or ungifted? What does he call that person? He calls that person idiot, ignorant, uninformed, unknowing. It's where we get our English word for idiot. I'm not calling you a naked idiot, but you're saying things that you don't know what you're saying. Only God knows because he's going to pause and say, "You're only speaking in the air." But again, what are the words there? *Las glossas*. So all this time, all these years, all these a thousand years has gone by and we see that *las* means speaking in, speaking in, wow, speaking in known earthly languages. So we can't say that this is us speaking. And by the way, he says, "Army of the Lord says that it's God speaking mysteries." For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him, but in his spirit. This is not God speaking in God's spirit. No, it's not. It's not God speaking mystery. It's you, the person. Read the text. You don't even need, you don't even need the Greek to get this. But word of contrast. But the one who prophesies, what does he do? He does exactly what Paul and Peter and others have said that spiritual gifts are for: to edify and exhortation. But the one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. But the one who prophesies edifies a church.

So here is where Paul is admonishing the misuse, the improper use of tongues. You're just edifying yourself. Do we ever edify ourselves? Can you find one scripture that, hey, you know what? We should edify ourselves. No. As a matter of fact, we've got several verses that say that you're to edify the body. Let me just run over a few. John 15:26, Romans 14:19, uh, Romans 12:3-10, 1 Corinthians 10:23, 1 Corinthians 12 and 7. And then also in this very same chapter where the spirit is the new is to edify others. 1 Corinthians 14:4, 6:12, verse 17, verse 19, verse 26, and verse 31. Those tell of edifying the body, not yourself.

But then someone comes back and says, "You should edify yourself." Okay, with no scriptural basis for that. Now, I wish you all spoke in tongues. What's the word? Laascl. But I want you to do so. Why? Paul tells why I want you to speak in tongues in order that you prophesy. In order that you bring revelation or to reveal or to tell or inform. How do we know that Paul wants you to bring revelation or information? Because he says greater is the one who prophesies than the one who speaks. Unless you're not greater than if, if you interpret or explain is what the word interpret means. So that the church may receive edification. Why? Even in, even in tongues, if they were used correctly, what does Paul want to happen? The church to receive edification. But if your tongues, tongues, brings about edification for yourself, that goes against what Paul is saying.

But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, los glossas, what will I profit you? The notice, I'm not benefiting you whatsoever. Does Paul see that as a problem? Sure, he does. He says, unless you speak either, um, by way of revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching, I want to know. You need to know what's being spoken of. Yet, even lifeless things, and he goes, he, he, he gives an analogy. Even lifeless things like the flute or the harp, the piano, whatever you name it, there's a look at the words. There's a distinction. There's something unless you know, unless what's known is being played, you wouldn't know what to do. If the bugle plays, you wouldn't know if it, if it gives an indistinct sound, what are you going to do? Nothing. He says, "So also," so he's comparing you with your tongues. So also you by the uttering of tongues is speaking in tongues that is clear. How will it be known what is spoken? For you will be, look what he says. For you will be speaking into all. You're going to be doing is just speaking into the air. That's the problem that I have with a lot of you guys. Not you guys, but some of you guys. All you do is just talk in the air. You're just speaking in the air. You're just yapping. And no one knows that it's a move of the spirit. So it can't be. Because if people don't know it's the move of the spirit, then it's not.

There are perhaps many kinds of languages. There it is again. So what does Paul equate to kinds of languages and speaking in languages? He equates them both be the same thing. There are great many kinds of languages in the world and no kind is without meaning. So what do we say? Every laas is a known earthly language. There's meaning to it. But if I don't know the, if I don't know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian. What if you're the very one that's doing the speaking and you don't know what you're saying? You are to yourself a barbarian. You are a duplicitous person. Borderline schizophrenic. So also, so therefore you, what does he want you to do? Be zealous for the numaticon or the spiritual gifts. Why? Be zealous to seek to abound for the edification of the church. I want you to be zealous to seek to move harshly. I mean, I mean to move heartily, fastly, intentionally to build up the body. No. First, let me go over here and build up myself. No. Therefore, let the one who speaks in a tongue, he says llomize, pray that he may interpret.

Now, here's the question. Remember we said back in Acts 2, Peter gets up and he goes to explain to the crowd what's happening. That is the only example in the Bible of anyone ever interpreting or explaining what was just spoken in tongues. The only time. Corey, are you sure what Peter was doing in Acts 2 was interpreting? Well, the people who heard the languages these people speaking, what did they say? They said that they were magnifying God. What did Peter get up and do? Magnify God. Do you think that those people who heard the, the disciples, the go, the apostles speaking, do you think that Peter and the guys gave them two different langu, I mean, two different um discussions, two different descriptions, two different explanations? No, they said the same thing because Jesus said they would. So Peter gets up. If Peter, if we don't have this account of Peter giving or explaining or dear if or Herrena is explaining, if we don't have that example, then it's the one spiritual gift in the Bible that there is no example. This is the only, it would be the only spiritual gift where there is no actual example of it happening in the Bible. So where he says this in order to, um, demon the new amen, it's the same as the word her or hero, which is to explain in order that you would explain. So the person should pray that he can have understanding.

Now, for if I pray in a tongue, now here's the question. Some are going to say that there are two types of tongues. There's the speaking in tongues and there's the praying in tongues. Fine. Here's the problem that the person's going to have. If you pray in tongues, in verse 14, the person praying in tongues comes with a problem. By the way, Paul never said, "I pray in tongues." Paul never said, "Pray in tongues." He never says that he prays in tongues. What he does say is, if I pray in tongues. Now, you can take this as if Paul prays in tongues or if any certain person were to pray in tongues. Paul presents that there's a problem with that. If I pray in tongue, he says my spirit prays. By the way, you folks that speak in tongues, I don't doubt, I don't doubt that your spirit is involved and you are genuine and zealous about this. But he says my mind, or in this case, your mind is unfruitful. Now, I heard one person tell me once before that it's okay for your mind to be unfruitful. Does that make sense? That it's okay for your mind to be unfruitful? When Paul just said, "I want you to have understanding. If it's not, you'll be a barbarian even to yourself." And Paul opens this up by saying, "If that's the case," he says, "I want you to not be ignorant. I don't want you to be ignorant." So he says, by the way, the word is used here, my mind is nuos, n news, or the opposite of noose is agnoim, not, not mind, not thinking, unknowing. So he says the person that prays in tongue, Paul says that person himself, whomever that person, your mind is unfruitful. And he, we know it's a problem because he follows up the problem with a solution. So what's the solution? What's the outcome? Then I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with my mind, or some versions might say with understanding. We don't have. Notice what's missing. What's missing is, I will pray with the spirit and pray with understanding and pray in tongues. No.

So the only time that we see tongues brought up is, and likely there are people who are trying to pray in tongues. First of all, they were praying in tongues publicly because other folks knew it. And so because of that, Paul is saying you got a problem. You don't know what you're saying because when you do that, how can someone come in and say amen? You can't say amen. As a matter of fact, he calls the person here, it is the ungifted. This is where the word is idiot or idiot. That's the idiot, the ungifted, the unknowing. That's literally what this word means. The ignorant person, the unlearned person. How can they come and say amen? But isn't that what we have every day? Someone comes and speaks in tongues and then what happens? They speak in tongues and all the people, all the people of God say, "Amen." Why? You don't know what he just said. He could have been saying Jesus is a curse. Like he started off this whole discussion in chapter 12, because no one knows what you are saying. He says, since you don't know what you are saying, you might be giving things. Well, you might really mean this, but the other person, no one is edified, including yourself, or I'm sorry, only yourself. Which is the point. No one is edified. He said, "I thank God I speak in tongues." What's the word that he used? La glossi. So what? So what have we known this word to be? Languages. Earthly languages. However, in the church, I desire to speak five words with my mind knowing the opposite of not knowing so that I might, so that I may instruct others also rather than 10,000 words in a tongue who nobody gets anything from. Are you all following me?

Now watch this. Don't be children in your thinking. Look what he says. Well, what, what does he follow that up with? He says, "But in the law is written by men of strange tongues." What's the word for strange tongues, ladies and gentlemen? Heteros, or in this case, heteroglossi, heterogloss, which is these other, remember heter, heteros is other. So by men of other tongues or strange tongues, other tongues, and by the lips of strangers or others, I will speak to this people, and even then they will not listen. What did Paul just, how did Paul sum up all that he's been talking about? He just mentioned that all the tongues, the purpose of those tongues is to be a language that this people will not listen to. So here you guys over here saying something, and the people for whom there's supposed to be a judgment for, that's, they're not there, may not, they may be there, they may not be there, but that's the point. He says the point of these tongues, the purpose, the point of these tongues hearkens back to Isaiah 28. Remember that was the first text we read, Isaiah 28, where he says that these people indeed speak to this people through the, what, same words, laas glossis, and he says, as they speak, he says, when they do so, this people will not listen. So what does Paul say as he's making this statement? Paul comes back and says this. He says, "So then, in light of all of this, I want you guys to catch. In light of all of this, in light of everything that's being, that's being stated here, what I just said, the purpose of tongues, ladies and gentlemen."

So then tongues are for what? A sign not to those who believe, but to the unbelievers. What did, what did Isaiah say? What did Paul just referred to and then go and look at the examples in Acts 2, Acts 8, not even Acts 8, but maybe Acts 8, Acts 10, Acts 19. What are they? Who, who's there? Jews. And these are to be a sign to them. It's a witness and a sign. So when you go speak in tongues of yourself, or you in church amongst other believers, and they ain't Jewish believers, what's the purpose? But prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers, but to those who believe. So when you want to bring revelation or information or telling, that's for the believers, not the unbeliever. So when the whole church assembles, everybody all wants to speak in tongues. Isn't that what we see? Isn't that what we see? Every, find the first Pentecostal charismatic church, and you're going to find a lot of folks, often times multiple people speaking in tongues. Losas. And then the ungifted, the idiots come in, or the unbelievers come in, and they will say, "Man, what is wrong with these people?" Which is what they're supposed to do, by the way. The unbeliever is going to do that.

Now, let's drop down. What's the outcome? What should we do then? When you assemble, everybody's got a psalm. Everybody's got a teaching. Everybody's got something. Everybody has a revelation. Everybody has a tongue. So here's a rule. Let all things be done for edification. Does the, all that's being done for edification, does it also refer, does that even mean, does that refer to tongues? Does that include tongues? Does the all for edification also include tongues? What say you? Do you all think that when he says, let all things be done for edification, does all include tongues? Well, yes. Yes, it has to. Exactly right, Dutch. All means all. So, let all things, including tongues, be done for edification. Look what he says. We know it includes tongues because he says, "If anyone, if anyone, whoever it is who speaks in a tongue, lasas, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret."

So, what, what are our rules for tongues? Again, hope you got a Jew somewhere close by. Hope you do. But there also must be no more than two or three, not 20. Not, "Hey y'all, let's just pray in tongues at one time." Um, one at a time. There must be an interpreter or someone explaining. Now, there also is another rule. He says, "Don't forbid tongues." So, we're not going to stay, say here and stay, I mean, and say that you, there are no tongues. You don't, don't you better not speak in tongues. No. No. But we are going to say you better not abuse tongues or speak in illegitimate tongues. That's what we will say. So, we've been given what the purpose of tongues are. And he says, look what he says. And one must, one must interpret. But if there is no interpret, he says shut up. He says, "Keep silent in the church and let him speak to himself and to God." He doesn't say, "Speak in tongues to yourself and to God." He just says, "Speak to yourself and to God." Just go pray. Just go and pray. He says, "But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy." So we all can bring revelation. Sure. One by one. Look what he says. So that the purpose of that is so that all may learn. Because what's he looking for? All to learn and all may be exhorted. All can be built up.

For God is not a God of confusion, but a God of peace. And so look what he says. Let's drop down past the women and so forth. And let's go to verse 37. If anyone thinks he's a prophet or spiritual, if you think you're spiritual, let him recognize this. So all you folks that were clamoring in the chat, I disagree. I know. If you're spiritual, accept this. If you think you're that spiritual, then you better accept this. If you, if, if you don't accept it, then guess what? We know you're not. You're not that spiritual. Amen. And if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. We don't, we don't even, we, you know what? Should we even look at you as a Christian? We will. But we don't recognize you as spiritual. We don't recognize you as, as, um, at some level of spirituality that you should be. So dare, therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to, what does he, how does he start this off? Desire to prophesy, not to be a prophet, but to bring revelation, which means you need to learn, you need to read, study, and do not forbid the speaking in tongues. Amen. But all things are to be done properly and in an orderly manner.

So now, those are all the texts that we've covered thus far that speak the 21 times that the Bible speaks about tongues. Now, there are some passages that have nothing to do with tongues that people bring up. For example, Romans 8:26. In the same way, the Spirit helps our weaknesses, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes with us with groanings too deep for words. This is not tongues, ladies and gentlemen. How do we know? Because he literally says, "Intercedes with us with groanings too deep for words." The word that's used here is stagmo. It's an inward sign. It's not heard. It's not audible. So, this text is not a text for tongues. I don't know what to say, but the spirit just bubbles up in me and I go to speak it in tongues. That's not what this text is saying. Also Jude 20, but beloved, building yourself up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. Couple of things. He's not telling you to build up yourself. He's telling you to build up others. But let's say this, he's saying to build, build yourself up. Where's the spiritual gift? Where's the gift of tongues at here? Who told you that praying in the spirit is praying in tongues? That is a lie. Ladies and gentlemen, praying in tongues does not mean praying in the spirit. If that's the case, you mean tell me when I pray in English, that's not praying in the spirit? By the way, we see others in the Bible praying in the spirit and they're not, and they're not praying in tongues. We see others doing things in the spirit and it's not in tongues. Amen. So there are, there are no spiritual gifts here. He just says pray. Praying is not a spiritual gift, by the way, in case some might not get that. Praying is not a spiritual gift. We can all pray. So praying in English, praying whatever your language is, but praying earnestly, heartfelt, that's what you ought to do.

How about Ephesians 6:18? With all prayer and petition, pray at all times in the spirit. Is Paul commanding you to pray at all times in tongues? No, he's not. He couldn't be because one, we don't have a command like that. Two, we are to pray without ceasing. All of us don't speak in tongues. All of us don't have that gifting. The tongues are of the spirit that comes as a result of the spirit. So notice what the text says, not what it doesn't say. Pray at all times in the spirit, not in tongues. The only time that we see the phrase pray in tongues, um, Paul has an issue with that. Paul corrects or gives the solution. So, if they meant praying in tongues in Ephesians or Jude, they would have said praying in tongues. By the way, notice this. There is no command to speak or to pray in tongues. There's no example of anyone in the Bible praying in tongues. So, there would be no command to pray in tongues. And there's no command to speak in tongues. No one was admonished for not speaking in tongues. There was no argument in the Bible about speaking in tongues. There was only a rebuke for the misuse of it. And again, because it's a spiritual gift, it is to edify the body. If you think that it's for, uh, it shows a filling of the spirit. Well, how many people in the Bible were filled with the spirit and did not speak in tongues? Now, there's some before the spirit was given, like Zechariah, John the Baptist, Elizabeth, all of them before the spirit was given. But even after that, the people in Acts 2:38, those folks that heard the, the apostles speaking in tongues, they received the gospel. They didn't speak in tongues. Acts 4:31. How about Acts 8:26, the Ethiopian, or Paul in Acts 9:17? Did he speak in tongues? No. What about the proconsul in Acts 13:12? Did he speak in tongues? No. What about those in Acts 13:48? Did they speak in tongues? No. What about Lydia in Acts 16:14? Did she speak in tongues? No. What about the jailer in his household in Acts 16:32? Did they speak in tongues? What about Dionysius and, uh, Dearis, uh, in Acts 17:33, or Christmas in Acts 18:8? They speak in tongues. No. So when you get filled with the Holy Spirit or you come to Christ with the evidence of speaking in tongues? Well, wait a second. We've got a lot of people. We've got more people who did not speak in tongues than did. As a matter of fact, isn't it interesting? Isn't it interesting, uh, the, the sheer number of people that we've never heard speak in tongues? Obviously Jesus, but you never heard Paul speak in tongues. You never heard James, you know, the brother of Jesus, speak in tongues. Never heard Jude speak in tongues. And again, the only person that brings up tongues, uh, is Luke in Acts and Paul in First Corinthians. So that's everything that the word says about tongues. There are going to be some folks again that are going to be bothered. You're right, sister. There are a lot of folks who, hey, you're stepping on toes. Amen. Amen. Um, what do we say to someone who says that they, that they were praying in tongues from a dream? I'm not sure if, if a person, Oh, they woke, they woke praying in tongues from a dream. Okay. They woke up praying in tongues from a dream. I go back to sleep. Go back to sleep. I mean, it's not biblical. Again, if you do something that's not found in the Bible, then by definition, it's unbiblical.

Here's the president of the Tongues Speaking Society of America, Christopher, says, "For those who are against tongues or gibberish, if you are, uh, at CC Wan's concert and she does her song Holy Forever and she starts speaking in tongue, would you be offended and leave?" No, we're not childish. No one says, "I got to, I'm, I'm, ah, no." Anyway, but again, it's interesting though, Chris. When was the last time we saw, we look, look, ladies and gentlemen, it's a Christopher sighting. When was the last time we saw Christopher? But if we talk about tongues, shiny on the spot, I'm telling you, brother, um, publicly, you are in danger of being known as an idolizer. You idolize tongues. You never, when we have the, the conversations about everything else, never. A lot of folks in the chat have no idea who you are. Some of the folks that have been around a while know who you are because this is the only time you come around. That's an issue. That's a heart issue for you.

So, doesn't this mean that tongues is only? Yep. It's only a known language. Now, someone might bring up what Jesus said about vain babbling, and it's possible that that's what Jesus is referring to. It's possible, but I didn't want to be, be, um, I didn't want to, you know, take a side early on, so I didn't offer that particular text, but it is, it is very much possible that that text is saying, saying just that. It's possible. Robert, thank you. It is, it is my pleasure. I haven't covered tongues like this in a while, and a lot of the videos on the channel that are dealing with tongues have been taken off. Not by you. I took them off. I'm, I'm purging a lot of videos off the channel. So, and some videos that are worth redoing, I'm, I'm redoing some of these videos over now. If you guys have any more questions, go ahead and ask the questions. Um, so we can, you know, we can go ahead and end. Um, okay. Well, listen, um, DR, that's going to happen. We expect those things. That's funny. Yeah. Vain babbling. And is this what Jesus is speaking of? But let me say this, the concept of what Jesus, even if Jesus isn't speaking about these vain, repetitious babbling, if, if the babbling is not the, the tongues that we're, that we're hearing today, the concept is the same. You know how we know the concept is the same? Uh, let's go there. Here's how we know that this concept is exactly the same. Uh, let's see. Um, Matthew 6. Move that out of the way. Let's go over here to Matthew 6. Notice what he says. Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed. So you're praying in tongues and speaking in tongues before, before the people. Okay? Uh, so when you give to the poor, same thing. But now let's drop down where we get to praying. So when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogue and on the street corner so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door, uh, and pray. Now, excuse me. Let's back push this. Let's go back up to verse where we at? Um, oh, verse 7. And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition. Now, the word that's used here is balagasete, which is these babblings. Um, is that what he's speaking of? Well, maybe, maybe not. But the concept is the same. Why? The reason why the concept is the same is because it's this constant repetition, thinking you'll be seen or heard. What do we see with tongues? It sounds the same. It's a repetition. Am I lying? Have I, When I hear tongues, every time I've heard tongues for the last 30 something years that I've been saved, I've only heard them as a vain, as a repetitious, over a repeated. It's like on repeat, and everyone seems to have their own style. People speak in tongues and they sound the same all the time. Or more than that, you sound like the other person. And again, never do you hear them speaking in an actual known language. At least I haven't. So that could be the concept of what Jesus is saying is still the same.

How would you talk to a brother who speaks in tongues on command? Um, tell him that he's unsaved. Tell him that he's lying. Tell him he's deceived. One, one of those, one of those things are true. You're speaking in tongues on command. Now, he might be saved. He just, he just could be ignorant like Paul says. So Paul says that it's the spirit that gives us utterance. Luke says the same thing in Acts 2. So he does those things. So you can't do it on command. It's not you doing it. It's got to be the Lord doing it. And so if the Lord, for example, wants me to speak in tongues, if he touches me to speak in tongues, guess what I'm going to do? I'll speak in tongues. But it's not rehearsed. It can't be. Amen.

So ladies and gentlemen, I hope, I hope this has been beneficial. Oh, wait a second. Question. Is it a mystery between the prayer, uh, I'm sorry, between the prayer and God and edifying the believer? Why does it have to be understood by man? The reason why it has to be understood by man is because every gifting of the spirit isn't, is to edify the body. That's why Paul goes on before we get there in verse four and then after all throughout verse 14, chapter 14, and in 12, Paul is constantly reminding them to edify the body, build up the body. This for the common good. And so he wouldn't say all of that, then come back and say, yeah, but you're okay doing it for yourself. Uh, and then he says, you're just speaking to God. He says, no one knows. And he goes off and he, after that, when he says no one knows what you're saying, just you. Well, really not even you because you don't even know what you're saying. Only God knows. First of all, why is God speaking to himself through you? God is having, using you as a, to have a conversation with himself. You have no idea what's being said, but you're saying some things. But Paul already indicated that some of you guys are saying things that you shouldn't, because some of you guys are saying, "Jesus be a cursed." And there are plenty of examples where someone heard someone say something and it sounded like their native language and said, "Did you, do you know what you just said?" "What did I say?" "I said something great." "No, you said a cuss word. You said this. You said that." "Did I really? Oh, I better watch myself. Was that the spirit?" And then next week they go back to speaking in tongues, exact same way. So our speech, everything is to build up others. That's the whole point. Amen.

So, uh, I know there are going to be some folks that disagree. I, okay, I, I got you. Um, but we went through every verse in the Bible that is regarding tongues. Every verse, exhaustively. So exhaustively, I'm tired. So now I'm going to leave you all and I am going to, what will I do? I might just go, um, speak in tongues. No, I'm kidding. But if there are no other questions, we will, we will go ahead and dismiss. Okay. So you can listen, you can, I'm not saying that you can't build yourself up. You can't edify yourself. Is that what I'm saying? I'm saying that that's not what the, the purpose of spiritual gifts are. So when you pray, you build yourself up, but that's not a spiritual gift. When you read, you build yourself up, but that also is not a spiritual gift. When you fellowship with others, that builds you up. But that also is not a spiritual gift. Are you with me? So don't misunderstand what I'm saying. Don't hear what I'm not saying. I'm not saying you cannot, um, build yourself up, but that's not the purpose of the spiritual gifts. The purpose of these gifts are to build up others. Yeah. If you're right, if they're, if they're babbling, how do they, how do they, you're not even assured, Dutch, you're right. You're not even assured if God knows what you're saying. Obviously, God knows what you're saying. God knows the intent of your heart is the point that Paul's making. Before you speak it, God knows what you're doing. He understands you. And so, therefore, he gave Paul a letter to give to you so that you can stop saying stuff that you don't know what you're saying. So, you can say amen and others can say amen. Otherwise, ladies and gentlemen, nothing, and you're not, you, you're not helping yourself. It's not like you're winning some sort of spiritual battle. Amen.

So, ladies and gentlemen, thank you guys so much. Uh, it is time for us to depart. Uh, I look forward to seeing you guys on tomorrow. In the meantime, be blessed and be.
