How a Woman of God Handles a Crush (7 Biblical Steps)

Parable Canvas8:01

A crush can feel harmless until it quietly starts discipling your heart. Beloved, let's talk. Not softly, not vaguely, but truthfully, biblically, lovingly. Having a crush on a man is not a sin. But what you do with it can shape your destiny or sabotage it.

Scripture never tells us to pretend feelings don't exist. It tells us what to do when they show up. So, how does a woman of God handle a crush without lying to herself, compromising her faith, or confusing emotional hunger for divine leading? Let's walk through it step by step.

Step one, she admits the crush without romanticizing it. The first mistake many godly women make is spiritual denial. "I don't like him like that. We're just friends. I'm only praying for him." But the heart knows, and God already knows. A woman of God does not fear self-awareness. She invites truth into the light. Denial is dangerous because what you refuse to name, you cannot govern. Unacknowledged feelings don't disappear. They grow underground.

Scripture says in Psalm 139:23, "Search me, oh God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts." Notice this. David didn't search himself alone. He invited God into the examination. A crush becomes spiritually unsafe when you dress it up as nothing while secretly feeding it with thoughts, fantasies, and emotional rehearsals. A woman of God says, "Lord, this is attraction. This is interest. This is desire. Now help me handle it." She tells the truth early so it doesn't control her later.

Step two, she submits the feeling to God, not to fantasy. Feelings make terrible leaders. God never said, "Follow your heart." He said, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." Proverbs 3:5. There's a difference. Having a crush on a man becomes dangerous when it becomes a private movie in your mind. Late night imaginations, what-ifs, imaginary conversations, future scenarios God never approved. Jesus was blunt in Matthew 5:28. Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This isn't just about sexual lust. It's about hard ownership.

A woman of God asks hard questions. "Is this feeling drawing me closer to God or slowly replacing him? Am I praying to God or using God language to protect my desire?" She lays the crush on the altar and says, "Lord, if this is not from you, burn it. If it is, purify it." Submission is not suppression. It is alignment.

Step three, she guards her heart even when it feels good. Scripture commands in Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Not follow your heart, guard it." Why? Because feelings don't warn you before they take over. A woman of God understands that emotional intimacy without covenant is a thief. It steals clarity. It steals peace. It steals discernment.

So she watches how often she texts him, the tone of their conversations, the emotional dependency forming, the excitement that competes with prayer. She doesn't ask, "Is this wrong?" She asks, "Is this wise?" Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10:23, "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial." A woman of God knows what feeds the flesh will eventually starve the spirit. She chooses restraint not because she is weak but because she is disciplined.

Step four, she refuses to force meaning where God has given none. This is where many hearts get broken. A smile becomes a sign. Kindness becomes a signal. Attention becomes intention. But scripture warns us in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things." A woman of God does not build doctrine out of emotions. She does not assume that interest equals pursuit, that chemistry equals compatibility, that attraction equals assignment. She waits for clarity, not confusion.

James 3:17 says, "The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peaceloving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy." If the situation is filled with anxiety, mixed signals, secrecy, or emotional chaos, that is not divine wisdom. God does not whisper through confusion. He confirms through peace, order, and alignment. A woman of God refuses to interpret silence as instruction.

Step five, she seeks godly counsel, not secret validation. Isolation is the enemy's playground. A crush grows strongest in secrecy. Scripture says in Proverbs 20:18, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." A woman of God invites accountability. Not people who hype her emotions, but people who protect her destiny. She asks a mature spiritual mentor, a trusted godly friend, or another woman who fears God more than feelings. "Not do you think he likes me, but do you see any red flags I might be missing?" Why? Because emotions narrow vision, wisdom widens it. A woman of God is not embarrassed to be corrected. She is more afraid of being deceived.

Step six, she keeps her identity in Christ, not in his attention. A crush becomes spiritually toxic when your mood rises and falls based on someone's response. When his text determines your joy, when his silence steals your peace, when his attention validates your worth. But scripture says, "You are complete in Christ." Colossians 2:10. Not almost complete, not waiting to be completed by a man.

A woman of God refuses emotional idolatry. She remembers her value was settled at the cross. Her worth was proven by blood, not attention. Her future is anchored in God, not in a relationship. Isaiah 54:5 says, "For your maker is your husband. The Lord Almighty is his name." Until God is enough, no man will ever be. She does not beg for clarity. She does not chase affirmation. She does not shrink to be chosen. She stands whole.

Step seven, she lets God decide the outcome without resistance. Here is maturity. A woman of God understands that not every crush is meant to become a relationship. Some crushes will expose you to emotional hunger. Sometimes they will serve as invitations to healing, lessons in discernment, or tests of obedience. Jesus prayed, "Not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:42. That is not weakness. That is spiritual power.

A woman of God releases outcomes. If God opens the door, she walks with wisdom. If God closes it, she bows with trust. She does not mourn what God removes. She praises him for protection she may never fully understand because delayed desire is better than destroyed destiny.

So woman of God, check your heart now. Repent where emotions have led you instead of God. Lay the crush down today. Choose obedience over excitement. Don't flirt with confusion.
