If you perform actions without any desire, then no matter how you perform that action, or if you stop in the middle, you will have no trouble. You will receive the result for the extent to which you have done it.
Similarly, even when performing sacrifices (homams), if you do not offer the oblations in the correct manner, or if you do not offer the entire oblation, or if the number of priests is not as required, or if there is any flaw in the mantras, you will not incur any sin. Your results will not stop coming. You will not receive any adverse results either. Definitely, what is the benefit from it? The benefit is that through desireless actions, a path to liberation is created for you. Liberation will not come, but a path to liberation will be created.
Therefore, you must perform these actions without desire. This is the yoga of intellect. Furthermore, there is another benefit to this yoga of desireless action. It is said, "Svalpam-asya dharmasya trāyate mahato bhayāt" (Even a little of this dharma protects from great fear). If you do a little, it protects you from a great fear by giving a very high result. What is this fear? Is it the fear that an enemy is coming towards me? That is not the fear. The fear is being trapped in this cycle of birth and death, the cycle of samsara, and becoming distant from liberation. This yoga of desireless action protects you from such a fear.
