Quite often it happens that you make a good decision. Everything is clear. You are so smart. I will do physical education. I will do sports. I will regularly learn something important. I will do this. I will do that.
This is what is called New Year Promises in America. These are such promises to yourself for the New Year, which people give. And you know what often happens with these promises. Very often a person just does not fulfill this. He gives himself a promise, then he breaks it himself, and then he plunges into such a loop. "Well, I'm a pathetic thing. I can't even do such simple things. I planned to do physical education for 6 days a week, and now I tried it and gave up." Or, "I wanted to run. I bought beautiful sneakers and that's it." Something like that.
Here we are talking about such an item as discipline. What is discipline? Discipline is, in fact, when a person follows some specific rules. If this is self-discipline, this is a rule that he himself set. If this is some kind of team, then discipline in the team means that people follow the rules that are set by the team. If you had something like this, that you set some rules for yourself, and then you failed to follow these rules, like this video, maybe you will see the answer here.
So, discipline is just a rule, a reasonable rule that you set for yourself and that you follow. But you need to note one important thing. These are rules in themselves. This is discipline in itself. And this is not what leads you to some big goal. You want to become a big entrepreneur, create a big company, earn a lot of money. This is great. But discipline in itself will not lead you to this.
Well, this is obvious. Because in order to create a big company, you need to set a corresponding goal. You need to make plans. And then you need to do something every day. At this point, discipline plays an absolutely important key role. Because if on the way to your big goal you do not do something important every day or every week to achieve the goal, you will never achieve it.
And I can tell you, there are many, many, many people who are amazing dreamers, who read smart books, who go to all sorts of trainings. They dream. They visualize. But they, damn it, do nothing every day, every week. They do nothing to realize these beautiful dreams in life. And this is where His Majesty's Discipline comes into play, or Her Majesty's Discipline.
That is, in fact, achievements in life are a combination of these two things. It is your ability to dream, set these goals, find ways. And the second important component is discipline. Because it is what helps you every day to take the right steps towards this goal. That's why it's important.
Well, I can recommend you three steps that help you raise the level of your self-discipline, help you somehow turn it on.
The first step, it would seem, has nothing to do with discipline. You need to set goals for yourself, set goals that inspire you. Not those goals that society imposes on you and says that it is important that you have this and that, otherwise the guys will look at you in a different way. I mean those goals that cause emotional feedback. "I thought about what you said, I was very inspired. Oh, honey, what a happiness!" Because discipline is not always a pleasant thing. Forcing yourself to do it every day is not a walk on the beach. It requires effort. And in order to make an effort, we, human beings, need to have a reason. We cannot just make an effort without a reason. We need some kind of a big reason. Do you understand? Therefore, it is necessary to start not with discipline, but with a goal. The first goal is to define this reason for yourself, to love this reason, to want this reason, to want to achieve this, and to realize that for this, in fact, we will probably need some kind of self-discipline. So, this is the first step of the goal.
The second step. These goals must be turned into some kind of plans. Because a dream will remain a dream until we find some way to realize it. At least in general terms. At least in general terms, the consistent steps that will lead us to this goal. Well, if, for example, you have a goal related to the fact that your business should be well organized, that it should grow, develop, you had a cool team, then perhaps a good step in your plan will be to pass my free master class on how to strengthen the team and increase the efficiency of the business in order to survive difficult times. By the way, I leave a link to this master class under this video. So, this is a plan. That is, you make a plan with some big steps. Remember, guys, no matter how rare the events are, there is a plan in everything. Friend.
You know, I always, when I plan for a long period of time, I draw such a timeline. There I have years, here I have a business, here I have a timeline, this is my life, this is some kind of life, my family, children, wife and all other parts of life, spiritual development. That is, these are all such timelines, timelines for years. And I look at how all these areas of life, well, because we live not only for the sake of business, right? That is, these areas of life, how they are actually interconnected. Well, and then, of course, this plan, we take some kind of next step and we start to plan for real, we start to put it in a calendar. A calendar so that it turns into specific actions. And here we will already need discipline, we will need rules to follow these actions.
But here we ourselves begin to make the first mistakes. Because we have a routine and it does not stand in the calendar. And routine and some current problems, they always bite harder. Because, well, this big goal, I did not move to it today, maybe I can do something with it tomorrow and move tomorrow, you know? But this problem, this client with whom I can't cope, or these employees with whom I can't cope, it burns right now. Therefore, I need to do this first of all. I will answer all the questions, and then I will do something important. That is, we usually, when we plan our day or our week, we establish it in accordance with our rules of discipline. We don't take a lot into account. We only plan, first of all, the most basic. And by the way, we plan too optimistically, as a rule, that is, we plan 40-50 hours a week. But in fact, if you plan more than 25-30 hours a week, then you are already trapped. Because you have not planned all the tasks. About incoming letters, about some calls, about some new questions. That is, if you want the discipline to work for you, when you plan some of your important classes for you, for example, sports classes, education, your work, self-development and all that, plan realistically so that there is 30-40% of time left in your calendar for everything that is unforeseen, unexpected. And then you will be able to do what is really important to you.
The next third step is very important. Goals will change. That is, when you plan these wonderful goals, set tasks for yourself, and then set tasks in the calendar, that is, you look from the point that we can call the present time. Well, you know, after a day, two, three weeks, you become more competent, you see what you have not seen before at all. Your point of view changes. And what does it mean? And it means that your long-term goals need to be reviewed. I do not offer you to review them every week, it's stupid. But at least once every few months you need to review your long-term goals, give up something, add something, focus on something and detail it in more detail. That is, planning, in order for the discipline to work, in order to continue to follow these principles, rules and so on that are important to you, you need to periodically re-evaluate, look at your goals again and look at these rules again.
So, these are my three tips, three steps. What else will help you not to go down from your route, from your goals? A few small recommendations.
That is, first, be sure to plan not only work goals, plan all the important aspects of your life. Well, for example, your good well-being is mega important for your life. If you do not sleep 8 hours a day, sooner or later your fatigue will accumulate, you will make mistakes, well, and at least you will get less buzz from life. If you plan to do physical education at an acceptable level for you, maybe you have never done it, but what will physical education be for you? Walking, for someone light jogging, for someone more intensive classes. It should be reasonable, it should be rational. But if you do not have any physical activity, most likely the achievement of these great business goals will not bring you joy in the end. You will not be able to get a buzz because you will be sick and broken and so on. Therefore, when you plan, plan all areas of life and, first of all, your health.
"Are you all right?" "I have another heart attack." "What?" "I have another heart attack." "Call 911." "Calm down." "Damn it."
The second important remark is this. When you set the rules and you start, you try to follow them, you do not succeed. Do not devalue yourself. That is, do not try, never think that something is wrong with me, I'm probably a weak-willed, pitiful worm and so on. Try to look analytically first. Because, as a rule, if you fail to follow some set rules, it means that you did not take something into account. For example, you decided to study English from 7 A.M. to 8 A.M., as I do, because the brain works well at this time. But, for example, you did not take into account that in order to wake up at 7 A.M., or rather, to start studying at 7 A.M., you need to wake up at 6.30 A.M. at most, and for this you need to go to bed at 10.30 P.M. in a good way, so that you get enough sleep, so that you can prepare for bed, so that you rest, so that your brains work. But you did not take this into account. And you try to wake up at 6.30 A.M., go to English class, on the third day it becomes difficult for you, you cannot wake up and so on. Do not try, do not devalue yourself. Just analyze analytically. Maybe you chose the wrong time. Maybe you chose the wrong place. Maybe you just did not take into account in your calendar, in your discipline, in your routine, some more important moments for you, from which you cannot refuse. Look at your goals. Maybe you just did not set any goals there. That is, most importantly, try to treat all deviations analytically. Most likely, you just did not learn something.
The next piece of advice is when you manage to follow what you have planned, be sure to reward yourself with something. Just decide. If I do it this way, this way and this way, I will complete all these tasks, I will be able to put on my favorite helmet, get on a motorcycle and ride to the nearest coffee shop. Or do something else. What brings you pleasure, brings you pleasure. It works. The reward itself works. You know, when I wrote my first book, when you write a book, you need to write, well, let's say, 6,000 words a day, roughly, a draft. And that's a lot, really. And it's especially hard to speed up in the morning, when you need to get out into this stream with a lot of words. I set myself the rule that until I wrote a certain number of draft words, I just do not get lunch. You know, lunchtime is approaching, the stomach starts to growl, you want to eat, and you start to speed up. This thing works. Come up with some games for yourself, come up with some rewards that will help you follow this routine, this discipline.
