Hi students, how are you today? We're going to talk about memo writing. But before we start on that, I want you to look at how to write professional emails and the email adequate. That's so important. These are part of your soft skills as well too.
So, I'm going to share my screen with you. So when you go to your modules, you're going to see how to write professional emails and email adequate. So these will really help you and um and how to convey your thoughts to um your colleagues, superior, and anyone you're speaking to on a business professional level.
And we're also going to look at memo writing. And an example of it is here. And I want you to use the same template as me too. So remember, same template. So, so when we um, before you um, go into the memo writing assignment, please watch memo writing and how to write a perfect memo. It's it's made really well, easy to understand too. You just need to sit down and look.
All right, so as far as the assignment memo submission instructions, please submit your memo here either in Word or PDF format. PDF is always better just in case you you're giving the Word document to someone who has a different format, it can mess it up. So ensure your memo follows the same um provided template that I gave you. The topic is Hospital healthcare worker shortages. And it can be in any type of kind of topics that you find depending on, you know, what literature you find too. Your memo should be about 250 through 300 words. It must include the following elements. And just to let you know, 250 words is about one page, so it shouldn't be longer than two pages.
So your memo should include a memo header, introduction, two issues related to topics, so you're identifying problems, and two recommendations that directly address the issue. So you're like, okay, these are two problems, and here is the recommendation for each of the issue that I mentioned. If you need assistance with memo, consider visiting the Instructional Support Services Program (ISSP), aka Writing Center. Be sure to complete your work early so you have time to schedule an appointment and revise your memo before the deadline.
So let's look at some one of my very old memo writing um assignments. By change the name here. And you know, when I first wrote, I'm like, oh, this sounds really clear. But you keep looking at it, you can always point out the mistakes. But that's okay, we are here to help you improve. So pretty much, if you look at it really quickly, this my memo, no more than two pages. And you see there's a lot of bullet points there too.
So memo, you want to write memo, I want you to use this format again. I want you to use this format. So you want a TO, FROM, maybe a CC, a DATE, and the RE. RE is also known as OBJECTIVE. You can also change it around such as, all right, let me put the date on top because maybe that's more important for your organization. So hold on, let me change it, fix it a little bit. Beautiful. And then RE is also known as SUBJECT. So you have to see what does your company use. Do so you want it more in line. So you have to fix it a little bit more too. See, it looks a lot cleaner that way. But let me put today's date so it doesn't look like we're going back in time.
No. [Music] Them six, four. And I'm writing to Wonder Woman, the princess to the Amazon. From me, Tammy Lee Christensen, or Tammy Christenson, the Internship Coordinator to Lehman College at CUNY. And I'm ceasing Batman, the Dark Knight, because he's paying a lot of funding. If you look at the subject, Solutions to Maternal Health Education, the Alleyways of Gotham. Imagine we just wrote, "Solutions to Maternity Health Education." It's not specific. Now it could be anything. So I add in "Alleys of Gotham" so we know where the location is and we can be a little more specified because maybe something that happens here does not happen anywhere else in the world or in the city.
So here you see there's a couple sentences right now. Let me read it out loud for you. Gotham government recognizes the main issues involved in setting up a maternal education program regarding complimentary feeding practices for children being weaned in the la la setting. W, that was a mouthful. So let's change it a little bit. The Gotham government recognizes maternal education um, oh, feeding practices, children being practices need to be changed through maternal education. And you know, sometimes I just miss type. But you know, you always have to double check to make sure um, you know, you you type it nicely. Okay. The Gotham government recognizes children that children feeding practices need to be changed through mat through maternal education to those living in the alleyway city, to those living in the alleyway, Alleyways of Gotham. So that's um, very quick and short.
There are reasons why local um cultural taboos and practices prevent communities from being educated. You can just go straight to the point. Local maybe local taboos and practices prevent communities from being educated. Recommendation to successfully initialize a maternity education program as F. Okay, here are here are some here are some recommendations to help successfully initialize the maternity education program. So right, right is more sometime. So you see that we have a couple headings and subheadings and a recommendation part. So I'm just going to take two of these away. Let's just say take the last two away because we really need to write two. So I just want to focus on two.
The main issues initializing maternal education program. So under um dietary diversity, which um some people lack. In this case, men buy food to eat but do not share or share very little with their wives and children. The variety of foods and mother's intake affects the nutrients in her breast milk. So as far as hygiene, mother breastfeeds their babies in dusty, windy areas. Um, fly flying insects land on the baby's face, eyes, and mouth. Adults and children do not wash their hands properly before eating and preparing food.
So I am going to keep them all. So now we know what the issue, the problem is. Let's look at the recommendation. So local taboos and practices may be a problem when educating the communities um about complimentary feeding practices. Mothers may not understand that they pass the germs to the baby when they chew um their food. Foods for the baby. This is not a good idea. So we're like, what's not a good idea? Maybe you want to specify chewing food is not before giving to a baby is not a good idea. Baby's immune systems are are not developed yet. Okay. So it will be hard to teach the residents because some of them do not trust strangers. So now we have people who don't trust strangers. Did we talk about that all right in this? So let's look. Being educated and and to learn how to trust um government. So we'll just say government and on programs or employee. So um, we know it's not well developed yet. It will be hard to choose to resent some of okay. Um, did they do not trust others? Well, have the population, they are not practicing taboo. The best way to reach out to the community is to work with the community leaders. So I'm going to just write that. So gaining their trust will be the hardest achievement, but they will open doors, allow um us to get messages a messages across.
Here are some suggestions: receive support and advice of local protocol from the health department, local president, and everyone there. Um, train community elders. And then we have to see if it's um matching to teach population about maternity education and food safety. Hiend. Uh, advocacy for maternity health lectures on dark market days. Work with local charismatic healthcare worker to convey health information in local language. Create an entertaining living environment through games and social media.
So pretty much this is what I wrote. Let's see if it um matches. Okay, especially and hygiene and food safety. So I see one populate outreach. [Music] To to students who are I guess what do we want to say here? Oh, if we can't think of it or complain, we can take it out until we remember. Remember, you can always think about it as a first draft. And no, you can send it to me, look through it, but you can always send it to the Writing Center and they can look through it too.
So I just want to make sure you know when you have two um, one, two issues, your problem should really be divided into two issues too. So we can look dietary diversity and hygiene. So let's look. E. So make sure you know you didn't um, leave too much. So we want dietary and restriction and hygiene diversity diversity. So let's look at some of the things that they might have. I also want to tell the size. Then we have hygiene too. Oh, just long here. Vesence and food safety. And these are good diversity lessons and safety. Community leaders will partake in this event. So we want to see diversity. So you can write something what you think the solution would be. And these match up. This so so done correct. And then all you have to do is save and then upload it to Blackboard.
