Most Christians experience spiritual authority the way they experience lightning. It strikes powerfully, brilliantly, unmistakably, and then it is gone. For a moment, during a powerful worship service, during an intense prayer session, during a crisis that forced them to stand on the word, they felt the authority. They spoke with power. They prayed with confidence. They sensed the enemy retreating. And then the moment passed. The service ended. The crisis resolved. The intensity faded. And the authority faded with it until the next lightning strike. And the cycle repeated. Flashes of authority separated by long stretches of spiritual ordinariness.
But here is what the Bible reveals and what most Christians have never been taught. Spiritual authority was never designed to be lightning. It was designed to be sunlight. Not a dramatic flash that comes and goes, but a constant, steady, permanent illumination that governs every moment of every day, regardless of circumstances, regardless of feelings, and regardless of whether you're in a church service or standing in your kitchen at 7:00 on a Tuesday morning. And the secret to making authority permanent is not what most people think.
This teaching is the convergence point of everything we have explored throughout this entire series. Every truth about identity, righteousness, confession, the God kind of faith, the authority of the name of Jesus, the power of spoken words, the renewing of the mind, the work of the Holy Spirit. Every single one of those truths has been building toward this moment because each of those truths is a component of the system that produces permanent spiritual authority, not temporary authority that shows up in emergencies. Permanent authority that is as constant as the air you breathe and as reliable as the sunrise.
EW Kenyon spent his life trying to bring the church to this understanding. He wrote, "Spiritual authority is not a momentary gift. It is a permanent possession, but it only becomes permanent when the believer lives permanently in the identity, the word and the consciousness that produces it. The authority is always there. The question is whether the believer is always there." The authority is always there. The question is whether the believer is always there. That is the secret in a single sentence. And this teaching is going to show you exactly what it means to always be there. To live permanently in the place where authority is not something you reach for, but something you carry naturally, consistently, and without interruption.
Here is why most Christians experience authority as intermittent rather than permanent. They treat authority as an event rather than a lifestyle. They believe that authority shows up in special moments during prayer, during spiritual warfare, during crisis and then recedes when the moment passes. They have a warfare mode and a normal mode. And in warfare mode, they speak with authority, confess the word, exercise the name of Jesus, and see results. But in normal mode, they revert to sense knowledge, speak from their circumstances, confess their fears, and live as though the authority does not exist. And the cycle continues. Authority in the prayer closet. Powerlessness in the parking lot. Authority on Sunday. Vulnerability on Monday. Authority in the crisis. Passivity in the calm.
The problem is not that the authority disappears. The authority is a permanent deposit of the new creation. It came with the new birth. It is as much a part of you as the Holy Spirit who dwells inside you. The problem is that the believer's consciousness of the authority disappears. And authority without consciousness is like a weapon without a hand to wield it. It exists but it does not function because authority must be exercised to be effective and it can only be exercised by a believer who is conscious of it, not occasionally conscious, permanently conscious.
Ew Kenyon identified this fluctuating consciousness as the root cause of every inconsistency in the Christian life. He wrote, "The believer who is aware of his authority only in moments of crisis is a believer who lives in defeat between crises. Authority must be a lifestyle, not an event. It must govern every thought, every word, every decision, and every response, not just the dramatic ones."
The believer who walks in permanent authority is the believer who has made the word his identity and the name of Jesus the permanent operating system of his daily life. The permanent operating system, not an app you open when you need it. The operating system that runs continuously in the background governing every function, processing every input, and producing consistent output regardless of what is happening on the screen.
So what produces permanent spiritual authority? Not temporary flashes. Permanent, sustained, uninterrupted authority that operates whether you are praying or sleeping, whether you are in church or at home, whether the crisis is raging or the seas are calm. The answer is the convergence of five practices that we have explored individually throughout this series, but that must now be understood as a unified system.
The first component is permanent identity consciousness. This is the foundation on which everything else stands. You must know at all times who you are in Christ, not as a theological concept that you pull out when needed, but as the governing reality of every moment. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are a new creation. You are seated in heavenly places. You are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. You are an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ. These are not truths you visit occasionally. They are truths you live in permanently. And the practice that produces this permanence is the daily confession of identity that we explored in the secret place teaching. Every morning, every evening, and at intervals throughout the day, you confess who you are. Not because the confession makes it true, but because the confession keeps you aware of what has been true since the moment you were born again. 2 Corinthians 5:17 is not a verse to be memorized and forgotten. It is a verse to be confessed daily. "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new." When you confess this truth every day, your consciousness of your new creation identity remains at the surface of your thinking. It does not sink into the background. It does not get buried under the noise of the day. It stays present. And when it stays present, the authority that flows from that identity stays active.
EW Kenyon taught that identity consciousness is the single most important factor in sustained authority. He wrote, "The believer who is constantly aware of who he is in Christ is the believer who walks in constant authority." The two cannot be separated. Identity produces authority and sustained identity consciousness produces sustained authority. The man who forgets who he is will inevitably forget what he carries. The man who forgets who he is will inevitably forget what he carries. That is the link. Identity consciousness produces authority consciousness. And both must be permanent.
Consider what this looks like in practice. You wake up in the morning. Before your feet hit the floor, before you check your phone, before you turn on a single device, you speak. You say, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am a new creation. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. No weapon formed against me shall prosper." You have just activated your identity consciousness before the day has a chance to deactivate it. And throughout the day, when circumstances press against you, when the enemy broadcasts doubt, when the old patterns try to reassert themselves, you return to the confession. You recalibrate. You remind your own spirit and the spirit realm around you of who you are. And by doing this consistently day after day, the identity consciousness does not fade between crises. It remains at the surface, governing every response, every word, and every decision. That is what produces the permanence. Not a single powerful moment of realization, but a sustained, daily, relentless practice of confessing who you are until it becomes the air you breathe.
The second component is permanent word saturation. This is the fuel that keeps the entire system running. The word of God must be a constant, daily, sustained input into your spirit, your mind, and your body. Not an occasional intake, not a Sunday only feeding, but a daily, deliberate, consistent immersion in the word that keeps your spirit fed, your mind renewed, your faith active, your confession aligned, and your nervous system governed by peace. The teaching on the secret place, on the evening routine, on the nervous system's response to the word, all of these converge here. The word must be the first input of your morning, the ongoing input of your day through meditation and confession, and the final input of your evening. When the word saturates your system at this level, the authority it produces is not intermittent. It is constant because the fuel supply is constant.
Kenyon connected word saturation directly to authority with a statement that should motivate every believer to prioritize their daily word life. He wrote, "Authority operates on the fuel of the word. A well-fed believer is a powerful believer. A word-starved believer is a powerless believer. The authority is the same. The word supply is different. And the one who keeps the supply flowing consistently is the one who walks in authority without interruption." The one who keeps the supply flowing consistently. That is the key. Consistency, not intensity, not occasional spiritual marathons followed by long stretches of neglect. Daily, steady, faithful intake of the word that never runs dry.
Joshua 1:8 prescribes the level of word engagement that produces permanent results. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Day and night, not morning only, day and night. The word must be a continuous presence in your consciousness. Not because you are reading the Bible every waking moment, but because you have meditated on it enough that its truths have become the default thoughts of your mind. They rise automatically. They surface when you need them. They govern your reactions before your conscious mind has a chance to process the situation. That is the fruit of day and night meditation. And that level of word saturation produces a level of authority that occasional Bible reading never can, because the authority is directly proportional to the word supply. More word, more authority. Less word, less authority. And permanent word, permanent authority.
The third component is permanent confession alignment. Your mouth must stay aligned with the word at all times. Not just during prayer, but during conversation, during self-talk, during every verbal exchange of the day. The teaching on what your words create in the spirit realm showed us that every word either activates heaven or leaves it idle. The teaching on worry showed us that negative confession neutralizes the faith that authority operates on. And the teaching on breaking thought patterns showed us that what runs in your mind eventually comes out of your mouth. All of these truths converge here. Permanent authority requires permanent confession alignment. Your mouth cannot speak fear from 9 to 5 and then speak faith from 5 to 6 and expect the authority to function consistently. The confession must be aligned with the word around the clock. And the practice that produces this alignment is the daily discipline of guarding your tongue, capturing negative words before they leave your lips, and replacing them with the word of God.
James 3:2 confirms the centrality of the tongue to the entire life. "If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body." The man who masters his tongue masters his entire life. And the believer who masters their confession, keeping it aligned with the word at all times, operates in an authority that the double-minded, double-tongued believer cannot access.
The fourth component is permanent mind renewal. This is the practice of capturing every thought that contradicts the knowledge of God and replacing it with the word. 2 Corinthians 10:5 is not a one-time act. It is a permanent posture. The renewed mind is the command center from which authority is exercised. And a command center that is compromised by enemy thoughts is a command center that cannot issue authoritative commands. The teaching on Paul's mind control strategy showed us the three-step method: identify, replace, confess. When this method is practiced daily, the mind is progressively renewed, the strongholds are progressively demolished, and the command center operates with increasing clarity and authority.
EW Kenyon described the renewed mind as the essential infrastructure of permanent authority. He wrote, "A renewed mind is a mind that thinks the thoughts of God, and a mind that thinks the thoughts of God issues the commands of God. The authority flows from the mind through the mouth and into the spirit realm where it is executed. But if the mind is corrupted, the commands are corrupted. And corrupted commands do not carry the authority of heaven." If the mind is corrupted, the commands are corrupted. That is why mind renewal is not optional for permanent authority. It is essential.
Kenyon tied mind renewal directly to the stability of the authority life. He wrote, "A mind that is half renewed produces half authority. A mind that is fully renewed produces full authority. And a mind that is being renewed daily, that is consistently capturing the enemy's thoughts and replacing them with the word is a mind that operates with an authority that increases over time rather than fluctuating with circumstances." Authority that increases over time rather than fluctuating. That is the trajectory of the mind renewal process. The more renewed the mind, the more stable the authority. The more stable the authority, the more consistent the results. And the more consistent the results, the more the believer's confidence in the system grows, which in turn reinforces the identity consciousness, the word saturation, the confession alignment, and the mind renewal. It is a self-reinforcing cycle. And once it is established, it produces an upward spiral of increasing authority that the enemy cannot interrupt.
The fifth component is permanent Holy Spirit partnership. The Holy Spirit is the power source behind the authority. He is the one who empowers the confession, illuminates the word, produces the inward witness, speaks with the still small voice, and orchestrates the circumstances. And the relationship with the Holy Spirit must be cultivated continuously, not just in moments of crisis. The evening routine, the secret place practice, the daily invitation of the Spirit into every area of life. All of these practices converge here. The believer who walks in permanent partnership with the Holy Spirit walks in permanent authority because the authority is His operating through you, and He never takes a day off.
Acts 1:8 establishes the connection. "But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you." The power, the dunamis, the dynamic, miracle-working, authority-backing power comes from the Holy Spirit. And the believer who stays in continuous conscious fellowship with the Spirit has continuous, uninterrupted access to that power. The power does not fluctuate. The fellowship might. And when the fellowship is permanent, the power is permanent. And when the power is permanent, the authority is permanent.
Kenyon described the fully operational believer, the one in whom all five components are running simultaneously, with a portrait that should be the aspiration of everyone who has walked through this series. He wrote, "Picture a believer who knows who he is every moment of every day, who is saturated in the word from morning to night, whose mouth speaks only what aligns with the word, whose mind has been renewed to think the thoughts of God, and whose partnership with the Holy Spirit is as constant as his breathing." That believer does not need to summon authority in a crisis. He carries it into the crisis. He does not need to work up faith when the pressure comes. The faith is already operating. He does not need to find the right scripture in the middle of the storm. The scripture is already on his lips. He is a walking, breathing, speaking extension of the authority of heaven. And the enemy does not attack him lightly because the enemy has learned that every attack against this believer is met with an immediate, word-backed, spirit-empowered, identity-rooted response that the forces of darkness cannot overcome. Every attack is met with an immediate, word-backed, spirit-empowered response. That is the portrait of permanent authority. And it is not a fantasy. It is the design. It is what the new creation was built for. And it is available to every believer who will commit to the daily practices that produce it.
And here is the climactic truth that ties everything together. Permanent spiritual authority is not a higher level of Christianity reserved for the spiritual elite. It is the normal Christian life operating at its designed capacity. It is what happens when a believer knows who they are, stays in the word, aligns their confession, renews their mind, and partners with the Holy Spirit, not as occasional spiritual exercises, but as the permanent operating system of their daily existence. Every practice we have explored in this series is a component of that operating system. And when they all run together, the authority that was deposited at the new birth is no longer intermittent. It is constant. It is permanent. It is as reliable as the one who gave it. And the believer who walks in it is the most effective, most confident, and most dangerous to the enemy person on the planet. Not because of who they are in themselves, but because of who lives inside them and what they have learned to do with what He has given.
Kenyon captured the vision of permanent authority with words that should be the aspiration of every believer who has walked through this series. He wrote, "The believer who walks in permanent authority does not pray for power. He walks in power. He does not ask for authority. He exercises authority. He does not hope for results. He produces results because the identity is settled. The word is constant. The confession is aligned. The mind is renewed and the spirit is un-grieved. Everything is running as designed. And a system running as designed produces the output it was built to produce: the consistent, daily, uninterrupted authority of a son of God walking in the fullness of what the Father has provided." A system running as designed. That is the secret. Not a technique, not a formula. A system. The system that God built into the new creation running at full capacity, producing the authority it was always meant to produce.
So let this truth become the capstone of everything you have received in this series. Permanent spiritual authority is the product of permanent identity consciousness, permanent word saturation, permanent confession alignment, permanent mind renewal, and permanent Holy Spirit partnership. Not perfection, permanence. Not flawless execution, faithful consistency. You do not need to perform perfectly. You need to stay in the system. Feed the word daily. Confess your identity daily. Guard your mouth daily. Capture your thoughts daily. Partner with the Spirit daily. And the authority that has been deposited in your spirit since the day you were born again will operate with a permanence that the enemy cannot disrupt, that circumstances cannot diminish, and that time cannot erode. That is the life Jesus purchased for you. That is the authority He delegated to you. And it was never meant to be lightning. It was meant to be sunlight.
Colossians 2:10 declares, "And ye are complete in him which is the head of all principality and power." Complete, not lacking, not deficient, not waiting for one more ingredient to be added. Complete in Him. The authority you need is in you. The power you need is in you. The identity that backs the authority is in you. The word that fuels the authority is available to you. The Holy Spirit who empowers the authority dwells in you. Everything required for permanent spiritual authority is already present. Nothing needs to be added. Nothing needs to be requested from heaven. The system is complete. What needs to happen is not acquisition. It is activation. And activation happens when the five components—identity consciousness, word saturation, confession alignment, mind renewal, and Holy Spirit partnership—are running continuously, daily, without interruption. That is when authority stops being an event and becomes a lifestyle. That is when lightning becomes sunlight. And that is when the believer steps into the fullness of what the new creation was always designed to carry: constant, steady, and illuminating everything it touches.
E.W. Kenyon left the church with a final word that should be the closing declaration of this series. He wrote, "Authority is not something you achieve. It is something you maintain. The achievement happened at the new birth. The maintenance happens every day. And the believer who maintains what God has achieved will walk in an authority that the world marvels at, the enemy trembles before, and heaven itself recognizes as the legitimate exercise of a son's covenant rights." The maintenance happens every day. That is the secret, not a one-time breakthrough, but a daily lifestyle. And the authority it produces is permanent.
