Why NBA Milestones Today are Meaningless

Well, in light of all of the fallout resulting from the bam at aab bio classless and disgusting stat paooa that resulted in the fall of one of the league's most hallowed records, that being the modern era scoring record of 81 points in a legitimate game during a much more difficult era by of course Kobe Bean Bryant. It is important though to fully understand why so many people are rightfully disparaging Bam, the Miami Heat, and this pathetic record or just outright dismissing it all together.

Sure, it was a pathetic move to go for this record in a game that his team was leading by 20 plus points in for the majority of the second half against a 16 and 48 Wizards team with the worst net rating in the league who are intentionally trying to lose as many games as possible. Yes, the optics could not have looked worse. intentionally fouling that 16- win team up by 25 in the final 3 minutes of the game to get FAM to the record mark.

It is for that reason many and no not just old heads or Kobe stands but mostly everyone speaking on the record about this performance from within the NBA are belittling Bam Adabio for this pathetic accomplishment from current head coaches like Eay Udoka. >> Yeah. I mean, first thing you think is how, you know, because of not because of him, but because of the way he plays, you know, and I saw only made six threes, but 40 free throws or something like that. Tells the story right there. And the Washington Wizards >> to arguably the best player in the league who is only 22 years of age in Victor Webbyama. >> Yeah, I saw I think there's we we're playing a league when where there's plenty of inspiration to look up to. But yeah, I saw >> in fact, no one really is impressed with this trash can accomplishment aside from Bam Adabio himself and the classless heat team that helped get him there. >> Uh, will Bam Kobe.

But it isn't just the fact this game spits in the face of legitimate competition. And it isn't just the fact that a guy who has played in the NBA for nine seasons and had a previous careerhigh of 41 points passed a Mount Rushmore scorer in Kobe Bryant. It is also just because stats and in particular points scored have been so incredibly devalued and depreciated in today's NBA circa 2026. This NBA might not be as easy as ever to score in and acrew points, but we have entered the ballpark of the turbocharged 1960s. No other time in league history is even remotely close to where we are today and for the entire decade for that matter now of the 2020s.

See, not only are there all of the surface problems with BAM's 83 points that have been discussed at Nauseium, but the real elephant in the room really hasn't even been broached. We are sitting right now in 2026 at 115.3 points per game, which is the highest in NBA history since 1970. So basically in the modern era, this is the highest scoring season ever. Whereas in the 2005 2006 season when Kobe Bryant scored 81 points, well, average nightly scoring in the NBA that year was only 97 per game. That would be the eighth lowest ever since 1970 in the modern era and nearly 20 points less than points per game right now in 2026.

And when looking at elite scoring outputs, look, 60 points have typically been the barometer for an elite scoring game basically throughout all of NBA history. And when looking at all of the 60point performances throughout NBA history, which I actually happen to have done, 24 of those such games, so 24 of the all-time 60point performances in league history occurred between 1970 to 2016 2017, which to me that is really the line of demarcation. 2016 2017 a full decade ago in NBA history. So we have essentially 10 years of sample size supercharged easy ass era to score and acrew points in in NBA history where look defense is at an all-time low point. Pace and spacing again at all-time high points. We are sitting at an unprecedented era. really you do have to go back to the 1960s to find anything remotely comparable. But I believe that right now from 201617 till present again a decade of sample size really is the easiest time to acrue points in in NBA history. So a 10year sample size therefore that is my line of demarcation.

So, I went back and I looked at all of the 60 plus point game performances in league history from 1970 to 2016 2017, which is a 46-year sample size. And in those 46 years, we saw 24 total 60point games. And I mean, realistically, that is less than one per year, much less 24point games in 46 total years. It's essentially one every other year. But when you look at 2016 2017 till today, we have seen 30 60 plus point games. So 30 such games in only a 10year span on average. That is three per year. It is absolutely alarming that we have seen more in the last 10 years than we did in the previous 46 years. And it really does just underscore how much easier, ridiculously easier, it is to score and acquire points and pretty much overall statistics in today's NBA from 2016 2017 to present.

Now look, I know I know what many of you must be thinking. That's because we are smack dab in the most skilled era in NBA history. the best athletes of all time playing now. Just it's such a much better product. There aren't all the plumbers that populated the NBA before. But not so fast. I can easily dispel this myth by looking at just a few players, quite frankly. I mean, is Luca Donuch all-time greatest players of all time? Well, if you truly do believe that this era is the best era ever and has the best players ever, then Luca simply must be in your top three all-time players because, well, Luca is third all time in NBA history in points per game currently. He is only one point per game behind Michael Jordan and Will Chamberlain all time. And those are the only two players ever that are above Luca Donic. In fact, Luca Donuch is one of only two players in league history to be averaging 30 points per game in the postseason. That would just be Luca and Michael Jordan only. So, I guess Luca must be in your top two to three all-time players, right? Oh, and then Nola Joic simply has to be your goat. If you think that today's era is the greatest era ever, then Nicole Joic is undeniably the undisputed greatest player of all time. He is, after all, shattering the all-time record for player efficiency rating in a career. He is shattering the all-time record for box plus minus for a career. He has the all-time career high for win share per 48. And Nicole Yogic is second all time in most triple doubles acrewed in league history. Second only behind Russell Westbrook by about 19 triple doubles. Now Joic just turned 31 in February. He is going to be over 100 triple doubles above every player ever by the time he retires. He must be the goat. He must be. If you are saying that this is the greatest era ever with the greatest players and the most skilled players ever, I guess Nicola Joic is the goat for you and Luca Donuch is top three for you. Otherwise, shut the hell up with the greatest era ever.

Also, let's just take a look at some of the players which have played within this era and at the tail end of a real era, the era that preceded the 2016 2017 time. That would be 2016 2017 to present. So, let's look at LeBron James who he himself would have you believe is the GOAT and is a consensus top three to five all-time player based on basically anyone you ask outside of me of course. Well, let's take a look at LeBron James final MVP season. That would be way back in the 2012 2013 league year. A year where LeBron James won the MVP at the age of 28. And look at these statistical achievements by him for that season. 26.8 points per game, eight rebounds, and 7.3 assists. Now, again, he was league MVP. He was first team allNNBA, first team allNNBA defense. He finished second in defensive player of the year that year. This was arguably the best year of LeBron James' entire career. Not even 27 points per game. Fast forward 9 years later when LeBron was 37 years old and check out these statistical averages of 30.3 points per game, 8.2 2 rebounds and 6.3 assists. LeBron basically destroying his MVP numbers. Nine years later at 37. Yet, while he won the MVP with that first that 26.8 point per game average, he was only third team NBA that year at the age of 37 when he was averaging 30.

Look, it's not just LeBron James. Let's look at Steph Curry. Take a look at his first league MVP at the age of 26 in the years of 2014 2015 where he averaged 23.8 points per game, 7.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. Not even 24 points per game for a league MVP in his absolute dead prime at the age of 26. Now, let's fast forward nine years later for him at the age of 35 and Curry was dropping 26.4 points per game averages, 5.4 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. And just like LeBron James, that was good enough for third team NBA for Steph Curry. They were barely barely fringe top 15 players those years. And yet those numbers that those guys produced those seasons well past their primes in their mid to late30s were eclipsing their league MVP years in their absolute prime. Look no further than these guys that have played in two different eras to see how easy, ridiculously easy it is now in today's NBA versus when it was a real era where there was real defense being played. And see that is why these numbers deserve an asterisk. That is why Bam Adabio's 83 point performance is a complete joke. If if you don't even factor in the fact that they're playing the worst team in the NBA that is intentionally taking and they were intentionally fouling that team up near 30 in the fourth quarter for the last three minutes to get him there. factor all of it in. And that is why Bam Adabio and the Miami Heat are a complete joke for thinking that this record actually means anything. It's a complete crap. It is why all of LeBron James counting statistics are equally as devalued because this NBA is weaker than any other NBA ever. If anything, it stands as a testament to how much better these players would be today. The historical players, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are still top three all time in most 40, 50, and 60 point games despite playing in the dead ball defensively geared eras that they played in. Just extrapolate those guys into today's era. And that is why you hear so many people saying that Cobb and Mike would average average 40 per game easily in today's NBA. It's not hyperbolic. It's straight fact. And anybody that is doubting that simply doesn't know what they're talking about. They're either too young, too uneducated, or too ignorant to accept the absolute facts.
