2 innocent people are dead after a speeding vehicle crashed into them during a pursuit. It is the second chase this week that ended with the deaths of bystanders. KTLA's Jacqueline Sarkissian is live in Pomona with more. Jacqueline, good morning.
Hi, good morning. To above 7 hours after this crash took place, that intersection is still blocked off. Police are still here on scene. Take a step out of the shots. You can see both the suspect and the victims' vehicles remain on scene. Show you the suspect's truck, which is to the left, just under the 60 freeway. This is where the crash took place. And then if we pan over to the right, you see the victim's car, just totally smashed. And there's a yellow tarp over there, so we would imagine those 2 innocent people killed remain in the car.
But let's show you some video. The crash happened at the intersection of South Perry Avenue and East County Road in Pomona. This started as a pursuit. And once the suspect's vehicle that plowed into another car, killing 2 innocent people in that car. I just noticed there's a car seat to the right on the sidewalk of the victim's car. Not sure if that car seat is related to the car.
The suspect was arrested, taken into custody. It's unclear what time the pursuit started. The LA County Fire was dispatched to the scene around 10:15 last night. At this point, we don't know why police were pursuing a suspect and if the suspect was under the influence of any alcohol or drugs.
Now, this is the second deadly pursuit crash this week. On Monday, an innocent woman was killed and 3 others hurt in San Clemente. The suspect was driving a stolen U-Haul and slammed into an SUV after a brief pursuit. The 39-year-old from Surrey Toast was taken into custody a short time later and faces a number of charges. The innocent driver killed has been identified as 53-year-old Maria Ramirez, a mother of Anaheim.
Back out here live. As for what happened here in Pomona, the suspect and the 2 innocent people killed have yet to be identified. Hopefully, a lot of
