Because when I take on a job, I'm not just painting walls. I'm correcting everything that would otherwise make the whole room feel rough and unfinished. First thing I do is sand every inch of the walls until the years of brush marks, roller lines, and nasty texture disappear. This is how it looks around sockets when I start. And this is how it looks when I finish.
Next, I prep every bit of woodwork until it feels glass smooth. Some people would rather replace it, but why throw away perfectly good timber when it can last a lifetime if it's done properly? Look at that. Good as new.
Last but not least, I reseal around the windows and woodwork for that clean, sharp finish. Because if the lines are messy, the whole room feels messy. And this is still only a fraction of the prep.
