WHAT DIRECTION SHOULD THE RAPTORS TAKE IN THE NBA DRAFT? | Basketball Island

TSN31:30

Transcription

The season's over, which brings us to, I know it's your favorite part of the year, and that's draft time. That is like, I feel like you've been having the same draft party with your boys for years. There's drinking involved. It's like you're usually, you're you can't be talked to after because you're a mess.

"Oh, it's essentially a simple, simple rule. It's if you get three draft picks wrong in a row, you take a shot."

"Okay."

"So, by the, can be a long first round."

"Oh, you're cooked. Many people have hobbled out of my home or like, yeah, it's been, yeah. Fun times."

"This is Basketball Island. We are Son's Wes again. Wes, you know, just cheer him on as you're watching him doing that World Cup stuff. He's doing a great job. Hey, he he gave Kai Hberts to score in that Germany game. So,"

"Too much clout, man. He's he's moved on to bigger things."

"Yeah. Where does where? Hold on. Let's talk about what's really important. The clout rankings amongst the four. Is Wes? Wes has won?"

"I think Wes, you and Wes are like one AB."

[laughter]

"And then Fab and I bring up the rear. Yeah, we're bringing up."

"Real. We're in the barber shop."

"We. We are. We are. We don't have time for all the freak. Look at this haircut. I was literally in the barber shop yesterday. It's nice to have very German haircut."

"It's nice."

[laughter]

"It's nice to have hair."

"Nice to you know, I'm patchy at best."

"Um,"

"Okay. We're talking trash."

[laughter]

"But more specifically, we are talking like, we're not talking the top five picks like, although I do have something to say about it, but yes, we could talk about that later."

"We'll get. Yeah, we'll get to that. Obviously, sorry. We all have DP is our guy. We all have money on him and I honestly, I like Deansa, but whatever."

"The boozer talk is getting a little loud for me, which is interesting. But let's talk Raptors because there's a lot of interesting guys. There's a lot of interesting conversations. Do you want a big? Do you want a guard? Fab. I know where you stand. You want a guard?"

"Is that based off of all of the guys you've looked at? Is that where you feel strongest?"

"Okay. I think we have to have a philosophical question about what the Raps want to do. So, number of needs, they could use size, they could use a guard, they could use shooting, they could use athleticism. So, really, you know, are you going for the best player available? Are you trying to fit?"

"Um,"

"Do they lean further into what they do or do you try to diversify? Are you trying to be more like, let's play the same? Let's let's get guys who are good in transition, guys who could pressure the ball. Are you leaning more into that or are you saying, you know what, in the playoffs our halfcourt offense struggled, we need someone who can help us there. So, it depends how Bobby sees this."

"That's more where I feel was the latter is like, let's help the half court offense."

"Yeah. I think to me, if I'm looking at this team, if Scotty Barnes is the future of your franchise, what he needs most is a five or a forward if you're leaning into this more 6'9 type style, which we we've grown to love. Um, that you need to make his skill set pop. And I think you can't do that with a full-time center that occupies the paint on offense. So, if I'm the Raptors, I go unicorn hunting. I think I even made that that comment before, too, on previous pods. Like, you need a dude who can spread the floor. I think guards, there's an abundance of them. I think in the league, the Raptors have locked into Emanuel Quickley for a long time."

"He, you know, for all of his flaws, the Duke can shoot and I think teams have to guard him out there. Can you defend? Can you put pressure on the rim? You know, it was unfortunate we didn't see him in the playoffs. I would love for the Raptors to select a five-man who can shoot the ball. Mu Kellis Vely may be too expensive for you to afford like and that's"

"It's a sad reality."

"It's a sad reality. That's just that's the reality we live in. It's like if so if he goes or if he becomes untenable, do you have anyone to fill that sort of skill set? Can you get Can you replicate that on the cheap again? I think you hit the jackpot with Mamu. I'd love for him to stay,"

"but he there's a reality where he doesn't."

"Yeah. I mean, that's okay. It goes without saying the Raptors don't control their destiny in this draft. There's a lot of variability, especially from honestly from five on to where they are. This could go in a number of different ways. So obviously they're going to have to be malleable in what in what their options are, right? Like there's going to be a glut of guards who are interesting where they where they're picking. Now, they're all flawed in different ways. They're they're a lot of undersized guys like Christian Anderson. Raptors Twitter has kind of been infatuated with Bennett Stirtz. There's Phylon who's sliding."

"These Iuka Cororey like these guys all have different strengths but they don't project to be great defensively or like guys who can pick up um, you know, ball pressure 90 ft from the basket. Like, and that's kind of what the Raptors want, right? Like the Raptors I think want like a dribble, pass, shoot type of player. That's how Darko plays, right? You kind of need to be able to do a bit of everything. So, I don't know. Or do you go for a big? Do you go for like a Christristen act? Do you go for like a Henry Vissa? That's what I want."

"Let me let me ask a question about the guard thing because I think it's interesting and it's almost the com the way we frame the conversation to start."

"In the playoffs, the half court offense was the biggest problem throughout the regular season. You had very flawed defensive players, but you still had a top five defense. To me, I think and and you've been hammering this pretty much for the last couple months, too. I think you need to get a guard who can create offensively. And yes, if those guards are flawed defensively, I think you have enough when you when you have Scotty and CMBB who are going to be on the court for crunch time and even Jacobe Walter with what we saw from Jacobe Walter defensively, I think you can let someone fit in and you need a scoring guard who can space the floor."

"The thing about the draft that's like so intriguing and why I love it is just that we don't know a lot of things. Like we're not talking to these players. Like we're just not."

"You know how much YouTube I've been watching over the last two days of these guys."

"But that again, you're doing that from a screen. I know. You know what I'm saying? Like I want like who who are the players that are like coachable that you like you know you have to watch these guys in person shoot the with the m like multiple times to get an idea of like can they defend like again, we're going on a tangent. We're fresh off the finals. Uh, but like Landry Shamut off the scrap heap in New York, that dude was guarding. Like, did you ever label Landry Shamut as a guy who can guard, who can stop ball penetration, and all of a sudden when things get thick and the the moment rises, he rises to the occasion because he can shoot, but also he's small, so you can probably punk him inside, he can stop penetration."

"How many times do we talk about this? 82 game players, 16 game players. You need to, and you, credit to you. You say this all the time. Whoever you're drafting, I need to know that you can be on the floor and hang at the end of a playoff game. I told you."

"So, it's like that should be Yes."

[laughter]

"That should be the most important thing is I we are drafting a 16 game player. And honestly, it just it's funny. I said this to you before from watching Bennett who I think pretty sure the Raptors have worked out. That does not seem like a handbone player to me. And I'm just saying like"

"I don't know the guy. Like, and again, I haven't watched enough of them to like determine that, but like from our seat, that's kind of the job. Like we're recklessly speculating. We we haven't I think we're pretty plugged in with what the Raptors need. They obviously are the Raptors are very plugged into what they need, but like objectively speaking, Scotty Barnes and Colary Boils, two guys who are your future."

"Shooting is probably not their strength."

"I'm looking at giving them as much space around them as possible. And you ideally want those spacers to be able to defend as well. And if those guards are slipping and they are flawed, like maybe like Christian Anderson, you can maybe he is a sneaky good defender and you just like maybe it didn't pop."

"I would describe them as a small guy who works hard LIKE DISRUPTIVE BUT BUT HE'S NEVER GOING TO project as a good defender because of his size, right? So can you fight enough to be like a a reasonable player? So like a guy like Stirtz, he's 6'2, 6'3, great shooter at Iowa. Everything ran through him. So he's going to have to learn how to play off ball a bit too. And that's a projection. He didn't have to, so you don't know. But he would certainly help you in a half court setting, 100%. Now, he's not that athletic. He he I think he'll get picked on a bit defensively. Like, he's not he's not super strong."

"I feel like he'll get picked on a lot."

"But I think he's big enough to kind of fight for, you know, fight for his position like, but once again, these are projections. We don't know, right?"

"So, give us your take on Phylon because he's someone who like you look at the jump from year one to year two."

"Mhm."

"That guy was unreal handle, mid-range, can hit threes off and I don't know if he slides to to 19."

"Seems to be sliding."

"He's sliding down the I I Okay, I I'll say this. I liked him more before. I still think if he drops there, that's a guy I'd give sour on though, because I don't know. Once again, defensively, I don't know how good he's going to be. I think he's he's an okay like Okay, he's not super like athletic. like he's not like a I'm getting to the paint over and over, but crafty, really good offensive player, like he can pull up. Um, he has that like handle. So I think he would he would give you a boost in the half court, but once again,"

"it's it's hard in the NBA when there's weak link like if there's a weak link to attack, it just gets exposed over and o over and over again."

"I don't know. You're projecting can he be an okay defensive player? But now certainly he could help your offense for sure, especially in the half court. So that's why I would give him a look."

"And the seemingly weak links like maybe he's a dog. Maybe he's got that in him. Maybe he's like slapping guard. You just don't know. But what we've seen is that yes, high usage in college. Again, not I'm not like the biggest fan of that necessarily, especially if you know you don't fill out as a defender type, but like I'm not saying this, but like, you know, Steph Curry was high usage in Davidson, but you know his offense just like surpassed all of his defensive shortcomings. I don't think that's the case with someone like Stirtz personally. Yeah. But I'm the Raptors and just knowing the way Bobby Webster, Dan Tollesman just kind of think on this stuff is"

"they have a fetish for these 6'8, 6'9 rangy wings. That's how they help win a title. How they that's how Messiah and Bobby built that team with Kawhai Pascal OG you know Ibaka like dudes who were strong, rangy, athletic. I think that's how you have to do it now as well. But you definitely need to fill in with the skill. Like so Brandon Ingram, I think we can safely say not a great playoff performance from Brandon before he got hurt."

[snorts]

"You know, I think there's motor issues with with Ingram. I think he looked pretty good in a regular season. Come playoff time. I don't think he like stepped up to the plate from that physicality standpoint. I'm looking at those kind of players. Like guards are guards are falling, right? Bylon's falling. Like does that necessarily mean you should take a guard because this draft is filled with guards? There's so many guards."

"Yeah. It doesn't mean. And it doesn't. And you can get a guard from the NBA as well to help your to help your offense."

"Inside a guard. You can trade for."

"My my Hold on. My issue is this though, like based on where the Raptors are at now, like I know you want to reach for the best player or who you think is going to project to be the best player, but I kind of want a guy who can play next year. Like I don't want a project. So why why why are you taking a project this year? A guy who can barely play next year. How does that help this roster?"

"So Okay. So I'll push back on that slightly. So, I like Chris Sonak Jr. from Houston. Oh, yeah. You're not We disagree on him because I think the big"

"Magician, remember the disappearing act against Illinois?"

"Yeah. Listen,"

[laughter]

"I I I think it's um, you know, it was impressive. Just according to Sam, you know, Sam Vassini and other draft experts probably could benefit from staying in school for another year or two, which is fine. I get all that. Darkyakovich is a developmental coach. That's his calling card. I think if you bring someone like Sak Jr. who plays in Houston for Kelvin Samson. Certain type of DNA of a player that goes there. You know, he speaks very glowingly about him. You know, Jamal Shed, obviously we all love Shed, just tenacious, tough. I think he's got the right mindset. I do agree with you that his shortcomings are game processing, you know, but again, I think that's just"

"a young player."

"Sure."

"In a crucial role, like he's going to project out to be a five in the NBA. I think he's got the tools for it. So at 19, why not try and hit a home run?"

"So here's my thing. Doesn't he just remind you of all of the drafts we watch where there's like, oh, this guy's like 6'10, 6'11, great athlete, all the measurables, but when you watch him, and I'm just basing this off of just watching in the tournament and like the stuff I've seen on YouTube, it's like, why aren't you able to piece all of that together, though? Am I just drafting you because you're a good athlete and you fill all of these metrics and then when you get to the NBA it's gonna be like, oh, this is just empty calories."

"I completely agree like with that take. I think that is what you can glean from watching him in that way. But he went to Houston and like there's a certain level of like DNA of the players."

"I know it's Houston defense first and it's like just"

"they produce a type of player and I I'm willing to again without knowing anything to buy on that especially at 19. I listen, I'm not I'm not an expert. I'm not a scout. No, you're you're the expert. Every player is a bet. It's some kind of bet you're making, right? You're like, can you use your your measurables and your athleticism and parlay that into being a good NBA player? Maybe, maybe not. I think what we've seen in the playoffs though is that you need guys who can process who are cerebral. Like CMB is, we know he's good. We already know he's good. Like that stuff can't be taught. So a guy like Sinak, I don't know. Can you develop that? Maybe you can. To your point, Darko Ryakovich is the ultimate de developmental coach. So,"

"I like that he can shoot."

"Yeah. Yeah."

"I think the rim protections were almost like, 'Oh, man. I wish you block more shots this year.' But like, he can shoot. He can move his feet. He's got lateral quicks."

"You can't think though. You're going to get chewed up by I'm I'm not willing to say that the dude can't think because he's so young. I mean, obviously like, you know, he's not going to be this like Yeah. I think CNB surprised us all. Sure. But the thing CB CB can't do at this moment is shoot the ball."

"So if you're it's like you're balancing that out, right? If you have two savants on the court in and Scotty and CMBB and you get a dude who kind of just falls in line but can hit a catch and shoot three can read a rotation, maybe he's not the one creating all the time. You know, I'm not saying he's projecting out to be a 35 minute per game type center, but you know, you have Yaka Purle who I think, you know, if you're looking at it from a very positive lens on this kind of like a Stein light, right? Getting paid 30 mil, but he can like he's lumbering, he can he can fill the paint, you know, he's seven feet tall, he can set screens, you know, he can do all that stuff. So, you definitely need that in this NBA just to kind of battle with teams that have bigs. But then you need the other side which I referenced earlier with Mamu. I think he fits that prototype. If he's there, I take a swing. But there are other guys I like as well."

"Yeah. Okay. Listen, there's there's certain guys like it goes without saying like if Morz Johnson drops to 19, I'm sorry. I'm taking him and you figure it out because because like"

"super high motor, played on a great team in Michigan. I think he can be a credible floor spacer. I mean, his free throw p um, his free throw percentage is good. I think he can be knock down a corner three and the defensive impact he'd give you with Simbi and Scotty would be absolutely insane."

"So, how do you guys feel about like because where he's going it's not too hard to trade up like if he's there around like if it's like moving up five picks."

"but what what are you having to give up to move up?"

"Probably a future first."

"Well, WHAT ARE THE PELICANS last year to move up? I mean, yeah. I mean, giving up a future first to move up five, unless you think this guy is going to put you over the top or something, then I don't know if I want to give up a I'd rather use a pick to get off Purle to be honest with you, then move up in the draft."

"It's tricky. I think he's probably one of my favorites. Again, he"

"he's he's an awesome player, man."

"I just again that type of like dog mentality like defender. I think he does have some chops. I think he can shoot the ball. So, it's to me it's like that's very interesting to me. Him, Scotty, CMBB. Oh my goodness. you make up for everyone else's shortcomings in that regard. Like all you need then I think at that point you definitely need shooting around them. He said I want to chase shooters in the draft when there are tantalizing prospects like Morris."

"Here's the thing where I I kind of get where you're coming from when we spoke about the sort of the glut of guards meaning some good players are going to drop. So maybe it does make more sense to take a pick at 19 and then maybe move up into move up high into the second round if one of those guards starts to fall."

"It's this is why it's going to be a super interesting draft and why so many teams tank for this because it there is a lot of depth and there's a lot of possibilities. Like a guy you get at 20 could be as good as a guy you get at like 28. You know what I mean? It just depends on how you're built and what you need, right? I mean, even a guy like Cameron Carr played at Baylor, super athletic, like super athletic. He had a crazy combine. I think he he would help your transition game like crazy if you're the Raptors. Now, is that something you want to lean into more? I mean, he's there is overlap with Jacobe Walter, like another kind of scrawny-ish two guard. I don't know. It it it depends on what Bobby's idea of team building is, which I know he has this like 6'8, 6'9 forward type thing, but like at a certain point, you need to like fill in the pieces a little more here. Like"

"we saw in the playoffs, like we barely had or we the Raptors barely had two guards who could bring the ball up the floor. Like look at all the guard depth on these teams who succeeded. The Spurs, the Thunder. Okay, the Knicks maybe not as much, but you had Jaylen Brunson. Um, the Cavs like at a certain point you kind of need like multiple ball handlers, guys who can shoot. Like I need a guy who can come off a screen and pull up. Like when I'm watching the Raps in the playoffs, I'm thinking can someone just like grab it and pull up for a three here?"

"So caveat there is IQ didn't play."

"Yeah, that exposed a lot of warts."

"It definitely exposed a lot of warts. I think to me if you're looking at those teams, I think three competent guards makes sense. I think San Antonio had like just an embarrassment of riches in that regard with Fox."

"Fox was certainly embarrassing."

[laughter]

"We could talk about Fox. No, we don't need to talk about"

"a hell of a buy low."

"Hell of a buy low at like a 50 plus mill contract."

"Okay, hold on."

"So So Fox if straight up quickly and Barrett"

"for Fox."

"I would just It's just a straight up"

"from a Raptors perspective. I would do that. I was going to say something like Ingram and Grady like yeah maybe like why not like if again if the Spurs want why would they trade him at his lowest value but"

"it's it's an awful contract though."

"It's not great."

"It's a bad contract."

"Guess what the Raptors have a few of those as well."

"But also but he's just starting guys. Mo still believes in Fox."

"Mo still believes."

"Sorry we're getting off track here."

"Again I think to me it's just Yes. Guards are important. I think you need three Yeah."

"three competent ones. The Raptors went into that playoffs with Jacobe Walter, Jamal Shed, and pretty much nobody else. And I think that put them in a tough spot. I think if Quickly, it'd been great to get tape on Quickly, but to your point, what you're asking for these pull-up threes, he's got that. What he doesn't have, and I think what a lot of the Raptors guards don't have is a little bit of rim pressure and ball stopping."

"So, that's a very hard, you know, prototype to find because you also kind of want that guy to keep you honest shooting the ball. Like I get I get into it a lot with Javon off camera about someone like Jaylen Suggs who I think the shot comes and goes incredibly streaky but he fits the mold of that type of player. Derek Whites don't grow on trees unfortunately. He would be perfect. My I guess my overall"

"that's why I like Christian Anderson. Sorry to cut you off because he can he can mix it up in the paint. Sorry."

"I think he can defend like Sugs and"

"I I think we you're just going to you're going to have to make a choice though. Do you want to help the offense or do you want to double down and try to The perfect solution doesn't exist."

"Yeah, it doesn't exist. But I think you need more. If you want to live with shooters who can't defend as well at the point of attack, you need more guys like Scotty, CMBB, and insert five here who's versatile, who can move their feet. Like, you know, the lumbering center has a role in this league, but we saw what happened to Cornette in the playoffs, too. like anytime he was on the floor. Now I get that's obviously a drastic change from Wemby. They see red when they see corn."

"You just forget the block. E, you forget THE THUNDER SERIES. HOW QUICKLY"

[laughter]

"THEY FORGET."

"NO, that's amazing moment. But like I know the court like those guys have a place, but not necessarily at the end of a game where you're trying to close out a team, right? Like you still need some level of versatility. think CNB could be a small ball five in some of those scenarios, but you know, I don't know if I'm like banking on that fully. I think if you can get someone who can stretch it out, but also not kill you defensively with Scotty, with CMBB, which is the possibilities are endless and they make up for the weaknesses of bad defensive guards."

"Do you think is there's enough insulation with Scotty and CMBB that you can afford to get one of these maybe not so great perimeter players, but give you the offensive because of the guys you have? We saw we just saw it work with Brunson. You know what I mean? Like we literally just saw a six-foot guard win the NBA championship."

"And look at New York. Josh Hart Bridges OG."

"And it's not like Brunson would like remember going in like oh Brunson could just be hunted on a level that you can expose that mismatch. He works hard enough that he's"

"stout like he's stout. It's hard to knock off but like and then and then Cat again a stretch five that allows Brunson to do what he does to maximize his potential on the offensive end of the floor. I think to me like okay you telling me right now I'm waking up day after the draft the Raptors draft Morz Johnson Jr. Oh, I'm thrilled."

"you are. And but again, he doesn't fit the guard prototype."

"But I'm making an exception for him because you can roll those three dudes out, him, CMB, and Scotty with an IQ with whomever else. You want to go Ingram, you want to get one of those guys playing small ball five, that can work. You can make that happen. You might get might get hurt inside on a couple rebounds, especially if you're going up against a super big, you know. I think that's a philosophy thing where everyone crashes and you figure it out. Like New York went small many times with OGN and OB at center, you know, but it's nice to have that curveball."

"Mitch Rob off the bench, right? Like you have somewhere it's like, okay, we need to shore this up. We we think he can win this matchup specifically. I think it's very interesting doing these pods after the finals because that's like the last thing you see."

"The literally the Knicks have an embarrassment of riches and and but once again, they're built with a a a chief creator like Brunson. Like this is where this is why I'm saying like you need skill and I think and the way I see it is like I don't I think you need to help Scotty a bit more in this upcoming season. And it also depends how you want to deploy him. Like are you thinking Scotty should be more of a point guard or like more of a like small ball four fiveish type player? That depends. I think at times he should be the point guard when he's cooking and he's seeing the floor and he's like, you know, you you could tell when a player gets on one of those roles, right? Like where he can like grab the ball off the rim, bring the ball off the floor, and if he sees a lane, he's just going in in transition on his own, which he did against Cleveland."

"That was where the offense looked best against Cleveland where Scotty was forcing it as your main creator. Like the big argument that again"

[laughter]

"Javon's out here to defend himself, but he, you know, he's always rips on me because he's like, you know, 15 guys who defend, no one can shoot. It's like I'm not I'm not looking for that."

"He said, he said, 'You want a team of 10 L Dorts.'"

[laughter]

"I'd like one,"

"maybe one L. I'll take two. I'll take two L."

"Well, you might be able to get one Lord this season."

"Yeah, maybe. But like I think to me it's just if you're going to I want to build out from the forward position from the defense out first and then you can like throw all your chips in for that offensive creator that takes you over the top. Think that's the best way to build the foundation. It's with actual bricks."

"Like to me like you know they did it with Kawawaii and I think New York with Brunson. You know they they got Brunson first but then they added OG then they added like"

[laughter]

"they did it with trades. That's just like great great asset management by"

"they got rid of Julius Randall who I think was like you know just sucking the air out of the room a lot of times with his game and brought in a spacer in towns who can occasionally fill it up but again serves a utility."

"even Bridges br they it's crazy how they built that team to beat the Celtics and then didn't even have to go through the Celtics but it's like you just had so much depth everywhere."

"You had a good infrastructure like I don't want Donovan Mitchell like I'm not throwing my chips in for Donovan Mitchell and think he can be the guy that can get the Raptors over the hump. I think he'd be a good short-term fit, but dude made the conference finals once, still hasn't won a conference finals game. Yeah."

"Like that's an example of a guy. I get where like that mentality comes from. It's just for me, I think you can hoard your chips a little bit longer. Build out first and then make your push if that person doesn't exist already."

"You're also not quite there yet. So you have you're afforded time. But real quick before we go, let's talk a little Giannis. We got the windy early."

"Oh, you're done with the draft. Well, we well, as we discussed before, I know you're not much of a producer, but there's a thing called Sticking the Time. And"

"before we go before we go on draft, a couple guys I just I I do not want I do not want to see Ka Pete drafted by the Raptors. Another 6'8 guy who can't shoot. I don't like Kareem Lopez either. So, I'm just hope I don't like those guys. Uh Dylan Swain, interesting player as well."

"He's very interesting. Josh Joshua Jefferson."

"Yeah, there's there's a lot of guys there's a lot of guys out there. Ultimately where I land is you can talk me into a lot of different players with this draft. Any of these guards, you can talk me into them. They're all flawed, but they offer something. So very interested to see where this goes."

"Like we weren't really, you know, CMBB was on the radar last year, but like he wasn't a guy I think we mentioned."

"I feel like the Raptors do a great when it comes to a trade. There's leaks all over this boat, but when it comes to draft picks, I feel like they're very very they're tight-lipped. And listen, you at the end of the day, you have to, I guess, give Bobby some benefit of the doubt based on the CMBB pick because listen, everyone,"

"everyone was well,"

[laughter]

"everyone was clamoring for"

[snorts]

"uh for Malawatch last year and you would not trade CNB for Malawatch"

"on this pod. I think he was like one of the main guys we talked about just because he was the one that was rumored. I think that was Rich Paul."

"But that also goes to that goes to your unicorn thinking though. Looks like Malawatch is still super raw and like"

"and the Raptors identified CMBB who's a little more groundbound but cerebral again something that you're unless you're watching South Carolina games over and over you're not going to see that. So I you know give them credit but I think to me"

"yes like DNDs I agree with you on Ka Pete although he does fit the mold but there's a lot of red flags."

"I'm sorry 6'8 guy who can't shoot. I'm good. I I don't need this on the roster."

"Might be butchering his first name but Adra."

"Oh Damera. Yeah. I mean, he's he's going to go top top 10 probably,"

"but he's like I think he's got some jam to him."

"Sure. He's 7'3."

"7'3."

[laughter]

"Lots of jam."

"No, I meant like toughness."

"Oh, no. No. He's he's climbing like I he could go as high as like seven or eight, man. Like the Hawks could take him. So,"

"I would love him, but like again, you have Purle. So, then you know the Purle."

"Everyone's looking for the Webby stopper, right? So, anyways, Giannis apparently wants Miami. I think we all kind of saw that coming. If you're one, what are you giving up if you're Miami? And what does what does that do? I feel like this is kind of like this is like the Celtics with Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett. It's like he needs to be the first piece to then make your next move to become a legitimate"

"we know what Miami is going to give up, right? I think it's like something built around Tyler Herroz where"

"picks or whatever throw in there."

"I'm twofold on this. one, it's like, oh, that's not really that much. But then also, it's like the aging big man stuff and like this that same these calf injuries, the same stuff over and over again at that age is tricky."

"All I've heard is the Giannis to Miami stuff. And it's just like the only thing that gives me hope about it potentially working is that Bam Adabio can shoot threes now. Yeah."

"And I think he he put up a good amount of volume in that regard."

"I don't know if they're going to win anything with Giannis. I think to me that's just very much a"

"they've been I mean they've been"

"Pat Riley going for the we want our rumored to get him for so long. I don't know, man. Like, this could this could be very very like hang on my face. I don't know if he goes there."

"I don't think he makes him a contender based on"

"We'll see. I mean, Celtics are also being mentioned a lot if they may want to reroute Jaylen Brown somewhere."

"I think that's that's outrageous to me. I want to trade him."

"No, I I agree that with the reports, I think that's dumb if they're thinking we want to we want to move on from Jaylen Brown."

"Jaylen might want to move on from Boston. I mean, listen, the way he's been talking, I I don't know, man. There's something there. Him saying it's the best season he's ever had."

"A little too much fun."

"You lost in round one to the Sixers. This is the best season you ever had."

"FINALS MVP."

"WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP?"

"YEAH,"

"there's it's a stringer Avon situation going on there."

"It's a weird thing to say. I think I understand what he meant from like his I guess personal like him scoring."

"The joy of basketball return, but that's one MVP."

"He wants to be the guy."

"He doesn't want to be the guy."

"He wants to be the guy. So, if he's on the table, which has been rumored and I think Bill Simmons even kind of said it that the offer was made, how does Milwaukee,"

"but he's not going to he's not going to want to go to Milwaukee."

"But his value alone, I think, to me is more more he's more valuable than Hawz where a"

"of course, but he's not going to go to Milwaukee. They're going to reroute him to like Atlanta or something who also has good pick. Yeah,"

"but this this could also be a three-way, right?"

"That's what it has to Yeah. This could be a three-way where it's Brown ends up in somewhere like Atlanta. No, no, but his value is I think the highest that you can get for Aianis. Like you look at those guys just like in a vacuum."

"I don't know, man. Like, how far off is it considering Giannis' age and recent injury history? Like, how old Jaylen Brown like 27? I don't have it on"

"27."

"If I'm Boston, I'm not giving that up for"

"That's what I'm saying. So it's like for me, if that's the value proposition that Milwaukee is getting, they may not keep Brown. Cool. But like a team is going to pony up more for Brown."

"Hold on. Hold on. I have to push back a little bit. I know the injuries and I agree that it's a risk, but it's still Giannis and he's a better player than Jaylen Brown. Like let's not let's not kid ourselves here. You put Giannis with Tatum with all the shooting around them."

"Yeah, that team could win the East next year."

"THE CELTICS WON THE"

"GIANNIS IS BETTER THAN JAYLEN BROWN."

"YEAH. Hold on. Hold on. Over the last 5 years, I've seen Giannis miss how many"

"No. No. I That is a real thing."

"100%. The injuries are a risk. I'm just I'm just saying Giannis is better than Jaylen Brown."

"With the caveat of recent injury history,"

"I don't know, man. Like, and Jaylen Brown has won like they they each have a title. They each have a finals MVP. Like, you"

[laughter]

"know, BELIEVE WHAT YOU WILL."

"OKAY. OKAY."

"Y two time MVP,"

"but also too, and I think even the those years are Giannis has been really hurt over time, and it's those those calf strains and stuff."

"Yeah. But Miami is the perfect place to heal yourself"

"for sure. But also too, isn't this is this is kind of funny too how like"

[laughter]

"if Jay if Jaylen Brown's on the table all this other Tyler hero poo poo platter this is just classic heat PR of like no we're getting dame because he said we're coming there."

"That's what I'm saying. That's my main thing. It's just like if you're putting Jaylen Brown on the table"

"that usurps any Miami Heat offer like it just unless you know include like ban that buy or whatever like, you know that's a different thing. But I mean what about the Raptors?"

"I'm I've been pushing this one for a long time. ON THAT NOTE, THAT'S THAT'S ALL FOR US. YO, we're that's it."

"Go get him OUT OF HERE. WE'RE NOT TALKING GIANNIS RAPTORS. That's all for us."

[laughter]

"Thank you for watching. Be sure to catch us on YouTube, Apple, Spotify, wherever you get your podcast."
