[Music] I started dancing when I was 6 years old, learning my aunt's uh old school dances. So my aunt, my uncle really inspired me and put me into what I am now. Still a lot of spirit, joy, and just happy to be still around for 33 years, so it's been wonderful. I mean, I'm really, really enjoying it.
In the 70s, the years that I came in, it was mostly Funk on the West Coast. What we call in California, we call it Funk and the Funk era, which is the 70s. And then as the 80s came, I was able to motivate not only me, my group, to take things from Los Angeles and take it to the world. From the '90s, pretty much the same. I see the evolution of the dance and the children, the kids, just everybody just really enjoying it. Something that I would have thought would be gone.
The 2000s are more like they're getting a little bit away, a little bit. They're starting to dance more faster with my style, and my style is supposed to be funkies. It's a funky style, it's not meant to be all fast, you know. So, basically, what I'm saying, the 2008 babies or before, they have to just understand that it's a beat of the music, and you have to understand what it is, and you have to have the heart, the spirit, and the soul to really focus on moves or execute the basic, on the basic style that I do. So, basically, that's where I take you from the 70s to how I feel about the 70s to the 2000s.
I would love for the young generation to just keep on accepting what it's given to them and share with love and the respect for our loved ones that's gone. SK rabbit, Michael Mo, James Brown, and so on. Spreading the word, getting it out, because it's their future now, and I'm really trying to motivate them so they can be pioneers, just like also me. Have it in your heart and know that you can be someone. You know, my main thing is that I think that God has given me this gift because I was dancing since I was 6 years old, and he uplifted and gave me something to share with the world to honor them, to respect, and to share your dreams to make, make sure that they someday too can be a creator in some fashion, some way, and develop a new style because I'm waiting to see something new. I've been seeing this style for 33 years, and they said, Sam, are you finished? I am finished. The Boogaloo is completed.
See this being in big motion pictures like I'm seeing some now and forth. It just to continue to expand all over the world and just continue and just for the love of the dance. Enjoy it. Enjoy it. Spiritual or not, believe in yourself. [Music]
