Chat GPT recently introduced workspace agents, and it is one of the best upgrades Chat GPT has released in a very long time. What these workspace agents are, they're basically customizable agents that you could build through simple chat or through their agent builder, and they could take care of a lot of different tasks automatically for you.
So, for example, one that I built was to plan my entire day and optimize it for me. They have one that handles customer service tasks. Now, each agent could access different tools or apps. They also could get access to skills. The interesting thing is they could also make their own skills. You don't have to learn how to make skills. They make their own skills. They could have access to a knowledge base of files, and they also have their own memory, and they could write files and store it into that memory folder too.
And right now, you could use these agents inside of Chat GPT, or you could actually use them in other channels. Right now, they have Slack available, and they're going to roll out different channels like that in the future too.
Now, in this video, I want to show you how to actually build these workspace agents. You could do it with using simple chat, or you could use their agent builder. And I want to share a ton of different templates with you, a ton of different use cases. And I'll demo some of these agents from the beginning to the end too.
Now, inside of your Chat GPT account, on the left panel, these are where the agents are going to show up. They are going to require a paid subscription to Chat GPT, but they're not available to just any Chat GPT account as I'm recording this video right now. They're only going to be available to the business plan, the enterprise plan, and the education plan. But the regular Chat GPT paid plan is not going to have this agent option, at least as I'm recording this video. I'm sure they'll soon be added to that. But if you watch this and you don't see it and you have a paid plan, that's why. In the free plan, it's not available at all.
Now, down here, you'll also see something called GPTs. So, back in 2023, they released these things called custom GPTs. Okay, these are still useful to this day. I've literally used some of these today. What they let you do, these GPTs, they let you do a repeatable task by creating a mini version, a customized version, of Chat GPT. Well, these agents do exactly the same thing. So, they are an evolution of these custom GPTs, but agents could do a whole lot more than what these GPTs used to be able to do. So, this evolution is going to give them a lot of power, and pretty soon they're going to give you an option where you could turn these GPTs into these workspace agents, an upgrade path, basically.
But right now, I'm going to show you how to actually build it. And even if you don't have it yet, you may want to get the business plan, which just requires two seats, and it's about $25 per person to get that plan in order to access these, but they are going to be wildly useful here.

I thought it was perfect for this video, especially if you need a refresher on what AI agents are and exactly how to build them. It also covers a ton of different use case examples for things like content marketing, audience research, campaign analysis. It has a really useful implementations roadmap, and it's going to cover things to avoid when building agents. That's definitely a part I recommend you take a look at before you build and deploy your agents. I'll put a link in the description. You could access this resource completely for free.
Let's build our first agent. I'm going to press the plus sign here to create my agent. It's going to bring you to this page. So, you have a couple of different options for building agents. And I want to show you some templates, too. You could describe with simple chat what you want to build. So, one of the recommendations they had: just describe a thing that your team does that is a repeatable task. Just describe exactly what you do and be as detailed as possible. And then this will help you do that. It will connect to tools and things like that.
Or you could start right here with this blank option. This brings you to this agent builder, which I don't find as useful because you have to do things manually. You have to write your instructions manually. You have to add apps and skills and all these different things manually. So, this is available, but I don't want to show you this option just yet. I want to show you how to do it with this previous option where you just press the plus sign and you describe your agent with chat.
The very first one I recommend you build is actually this morning planner option. So if I click this, this just puts a prompt over here: "Create an agent that looks at my calendar, all my tasks, any open threads I have, which happens inside of Slack each morning, and turns them into a clear plan for my day." I'm going to go ahead and send this out because I want to show you exactly what this is going to do in the background. It's going to do a ton of the different things that you would have to manually do in order to build an agent.
Now, OpenAI has had agent builders. There are a ton of places that let you build agents: Zapier, NAN. This is one of the easiest and most intuitive agent builders I've ever seen. Let me show you what comes up next. It tells you what this agent's going to do. It figures out what apps it needs in order to do that. So, these are the apps or tools that it needs access to. It's going to look at my Google calendar. That's what I use. Asana is where I have my tasks, and Slack is where I talk to my team. Then this is going to run every day at 8 a.m. So, this is going to be a scheduled agent, and it says channels. Well, right now, it could run inside of Chat GPT or in Slack. Those are the two channels that it could run in. Right now, I'm going to leave it on Chat GPT. And these are the capabilities it needs. Now, you could ask to edit and then make any adjustments here before you start building it. But for the sake of this first example, I'm just going to press "Start building."
Now, this brings us to that other page I showed you where you would manually build an agent. But as you could see, it's actually this little mouse here is doing all the building for you. So, if you watch it here in real time, it's already gave our agent a name. It's picked a channel. So, in this case, it's Chat GPT. This is where you could also use Slack as another channel. And hopefully soon, they'll have different channels as well.
Okay, I fast-forwarded a little bit here. Let me show you what it did. So, it creates a to-do list for itself and it starts going through and doing those tasks. So, the apps that it needed access to, it's done that. It's also created a description. It's created a role for itself. The sources basically exactly how it's going to run on the schedule. So, all these things would be things you would have to otherwise do manually. It's created all that for itself. It's given itself a memory here with a plan to store more long-term memory. It has safety and guardrail options that it's created for itself.
And then usually on the bottom here, it may ask you to connect to these apps. I've already created this agent before, so I already connected to these apps. But typically, on the very bottom, it says "Connect to these apps." So, if you go to the browse app section, it's going to show you all the different apps. So, I've already connected a bunch of different apps. So, this one I use for a design agent, for example. This one's my to-do list. This is where we keep our information on Dropbox. This takes care of things for customer service. So, all these are available, and you could connect to even more apps here with something called MCPs, and they have different apps that are rolling out to this one. So, they do have a whole app section inside of Chat GPT if you haven't used it before. A lot of these apps could be used inside of regular Chat GPT chats too, but with agents, obviously, they get a lot more powerful.
Now, this memory option, let me click on this to show you exactly what this does. So, this is a persistent folder where agents could save notes, drafts, and outputs, and then it will continue to work on those over time. This is just such a great way here for it to have persistent memory and not just rely on its regular Chat GPT or chat memory here.
Now, in order to use these, all you have to do is press "Try it in chat." And this is what they end up looking like. And these are sharable because I have these in my business account. I could share with other teammates. This is what you could do with custom GPTs too. So, you'll see your agent over here. So, anytime, just like the old GPTs where you clicked on it and you went to that GPT and you chatted with it, now you could do the same thing here. Click on it and you could chat with it here.
Now, one of the starter prompts I gave this agent was to plan my day. So, as soon as I click this and I send out this prompt here, this is the prompt that I could run every single day. Right now, it's on a schedule, too. So, anytime you want, you could run an agent. Otherwise, you could set a schedule and it will run it on that schedule. This is going to check everything. This is going to check my Google calendar. It's going to check the chats I had in Slack today that I haven't responded to. My Asana here. Now, probably some of these I have to blur because it's going to be my actual accounts, but I just kind of want to show you what he ends up giving me in a few seconds here.
Okay. Sorry, I have to pretty much blur all of this as his personal information, but it's giving me three top priorities that I have to take care of. It's giving me a schedule consideration here on a couple of things. I have a conflict with some risk and blockers here. Things that I actually have to do some follow-ups to unblock. And then on the bottom, it told me the follow-ups. I actually have a couple of DMs I haven't responded to here on Slack. And it's telling me the recommended plan for the rest of my day here based on my current calendar and based on the things that I have to take care of that day. So, obviously, the more organized you are with your calendar, with your to-do list in Asana, with communication in Slack, the better this is going to optimize that because all it's doing is optimizing your existing day.
Now, let me show you some other agents here. So, this agent was a design partner, and this had access to things like the Adobe Photoshop app, Notion, Asana. Again, this was built the same exact way I built the other one, but this one actually decided to create skills for itself.
Now, these skills are really interesting. Let me click on one. So, skills work in Claude. They work in Chat GPT. You're basically giving these agents a unique ability. Now, skills have different things to them. They have a different structure. So, input, workflow, boundaries, all these are part of a skill. They're usually like a MD file here that these chatbots get access to. But the nice thing is you see all these different skills. I didn't make any of them. As I was building this agent, he found the apps he needed. He built the skills and added them as he needed it. And he added different files and memory for itself. I could always add more skills here. And then I could upload skills. These are really the building blocks when you start creating these agents.
Now, this is again set to a schedule, and you could always preview these agents, test them out, and if they're not to your liking, well, on the left side, you could always improve this agent or configure this agent in a little bit of a different way, too.
Now, if you go to this browse agent section here, they have a ton of different templates available. So, you could see a couple of the ones that I've shown you here. I actually picked from these templates. You don't have to use the templates. You could just describe your current workflow. I'll show you a resource that actually makes this a little bit more useful, too. But all these show you the different apps they work with. Obviously, you don't have to have all these apps, right? You could just have some of these. Well, we right now have HubSpot CRM. We have Asana, Intercom. A lot of them are the ones we currently use, but Linear, for example, I've not used so far, so I wouldn't need to connect to it. But you would use another alternative.
Now, sometimes when you do pick one of these templates, for example, this marketing strategy template, right up front, it's going to ask you to connect to the different apps Danny needs to connect to if he hasn't done so already. And then it will basically go through this process of signing into those individual apps here. And then it will connect the two things. It will connect Chat GPT with that app. And then when you do connect these, which you could also do later, you just again go create the agent, and then it's going to bring you to this chat.
Now, I recommend you don't skip to the builder and try to do it manually because this chat makes it so much easier. This was kind of true with custom GPTs, too. They had a chat option or do it yourself option. The chat option just made it easier because you could see this is already filling out a ton of the different stuff I would have had to manually create. And right here, this is a good example. This is creating those skills that I mentioned right in front of you. You see that content engine skill, content reviewer skill, life cycle skill, marketing intelligence skills. So, all the different skills that is required for this agent to be at its best is figuring all those out, creating them. And then it's going to ask me to connect to any of these apps I haven't connected with already.
Now I want to show you how to share these agents. Especially in a business enterprise plan, these become a whole lot more useful. So, in order to do that, I have to go back to the edit agent section and I have to press these three dots and press "Share." You could always duplicate these and build these and make a different variation of them, too.
So, if I share this agent, I could turn on sharing to make it available to someone else in my business plan. Once I do that, I could always turn on access and list this in the directory of agents too, so it could be easily found. Or I could just copy and share this link and give access to anyone as skill leap.
The other thing you could do is when you actually use these agents. So, let's say this chat right here. The chats themselves are also sharable with anyone in your workspace. I could press "Share" right here. It will generate a link, and I could just copy this link, and it will be visible to anyone in my workspace that way too.
