17 lessons I needed to learn before I made my first million.
One is it's really hard to change the world when you're broke. So, don't apologize for chasing money.
Two, meet everyone. Say yes to everything in the beginning. You narrow it down once you got the cash.
Three, do it all because you'll eventually die. Eat the world.
Four, you're not everyone's cup of tea, especially if you're trying to do big things.
Five, the most lucrative things you can do in your 20s, learn how to invest, apprentice for somebody else, and get around money.
Six, most successful people I've met aren't that smart. They move fast, they take a lot of risk. That's really it.
Seven, don't buy to impress people. Being wealthy is way cooler than looking wealthy.
Eight, do favors, don't take them.
Nine, if I was in my 20s, I'd try to go work for one type of company. One where they reward outcomes, not hours. Like if you win, then you make more money.
10, where you live during your 20s really matters. Take some time away from your hometown. Get in a bigger pond. The number one superpower for your generation when you're young is hope. Don't let other people steal that from you, especially older, jaded people.
12, if you're more likely to be lonely or isolated, don't work a remote job. And that's also like 13 is, you know, burnout doesn't come from working too hard. It comes from working too hard on things that don't light you up and not seeing an end to it.
14, I want you to learn how to save now, but it'll never make you rich. You have to earn.
15, if you want to make more money, be more useful to people who have money.
16, you must learn to be disliked or you'll find yourself stuck in a prison of other people's beliefs. I learned that too late.
And 17 is being rich is awesome. So, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you. You shouldn't feel bad for going after it. It's actually not the goal, but chasing your first million is totally okay.
