I'll show you some ladder positioning. You'll see how versatile the ladder is, what not to do, and the best way to do it. So, I can extend the ladder nice and wide down to that window there. See it down at the feet. It's a bit awkward because of the slope this way, but it's not too bad. So I can clean that window there. I clean both of these on the way down the ladder as well. So I can reach them and clean these there and there.
And if we come up the slope here, this is one of the trickiest situations with a ladder because the slope is sideways to the house. Now, I think most people, perhaps the instinct is to go across the window this way. Once you get to the top of the ladder, your weight is pushing out on the feet at the bottom. So, it's literally pushing the ladder down the slope. I actually find it much better to go across the slope. this way, then the ladder is buted up. It feels like you're going to fall that way. But as long as the ladder's well wedged in at the top, it's got that groove on the top of the ladder. You can put it in there if you wanted, I'd rather have it on there. And then the ladder's actually pushing pushing against the slope. So, it's much more secure at the bottom and you can reach the window nicely.
Further along here, show you this one. This one's nice and straightforward. Okay, no dramas there. We come up the grass slope here. Go here. Similar thing. Very difficult with the slope. You see the grass slope here is going sideways and towards the house. So, it's very difficult to position the ladder. You see, you try and position the ladder this way. You're always going to be in a situation where the the ladder's kicking down to the side. Even if you try and dig that foot in, it's always wanting to lean that way. So, similar thing, you can put it dig the feet in slightly and then when you get to the top of the ladder, the ladder's push the weight is pushing out on the feet. So, it's a much safer way. This one underneath actually move it. See that one? Nice and easy there.
One more. See this window here? It's very tricky. Grally slope. Right. So, we'll put the ladder right back here against the fence. If you notice on all those windows there, I was positioning the top of the ladder quite high up the window. So, much better for holding on to the ladder and working at a much more comfortable height. This one, I'm going above the window. The ladder's a bit steeper than I'd usually like it on the hard surface, but because it's buted against the fence, it's not going to go anywhere. And then when I get to the top nice and comfortably clean the window.
So they're the most difficult windows on this job. Shows you a bit of what the ladder can do, but hopefully it helps you with some ladder positioning. I think it also shows how much safer it is to use waterfed pole in situations like this. I don't want to be accused of encouraging unsafe use of a ladder. So, don't do anything you don't feel safe doing. Anything I'm not sure about, I always get Craig to foot the ladder. So, we're always very careful. Don't take risks. No windows worth risking your life to get it clean, is it? So, got to be sensible.
