The transiting cycle of Jupiter to natal Jupiter

Truth In Aspect Astrology/ Jewel55:02

We are back for Transits Course this year and starting out with the Jupiter cycle: the party planet, the, uh, Santa Claus in the sky. Great place to start off!

Jupiter transits are great, uh, really any transit of Jupiter to natal Jupiter has good things that it's going to bring us. The worst that can happen during a Jupiter transit is that we can overdo, we can overeat, we can overspend, we can overcollect. It's about overage. So, to the degree that we aren't being mindful of what is going out and what is coming in, that's where we can get into trouble. But for the most part, Jupiter transits are very good.

So, let's start by talking about the cycle. And we've talked a lot about the dynamic cycle of transits where we go from conjunction to square, to opposition, to square, to conjunction. So, when we have a full transit cycle, it's always important to remember that the particular transits do not happen in isolation. They're not about themselves; they're about a process. They're part of a process that we're going through.

So, when we start with the Jupiter conjunction, uh, this is one of the better, better times in our life. And Jupiter transits happen about every 11 or 12 years, depending on where he is in your chart and how fast or slow he's moving. It's about an 11 or a 12-year cycle for us where he, uh, will contact a point or a planet. And it's about 11-12 years for him to get around the sun completely. So, a total transit of the whole zodiac, almost 12 years or so, is a long-term, well, it's a medium-term cycle when we look at Jupiter and Saturn.

They are, they are inner-outer planets. I'd say their cycles are not a couple of hundred years like the extreme outer planets, but they aren't a couple of weeks or a year like the extreme inner planets. Jupiter, you know, it's about, um, a year to get through any one sign, and Saturn is about three and a half years to get through any one sign. So, they are in the realm of a long-term, but not so long-term that we lose focus, because with the really extreme outer planets, we may only get one or two major transits from them in a lifetime. They move so slow, but Jupiter and Saturn will contact whatever is in our chart over the course of a complete transit around the sun through the zodiac.

So, with the Jupiter return, this is where we start out at birth. We start out with Jupiter at its placement in our chart, and then 11 or 12 years later, Jupiter returns to that place in our chart. About every 11 or 12 years, he will come back, so it happens at regular intervals for everybody. The conjunction is when we have the completion of the cycle. So, if first we have Jupiter in our place, in this place, at birth, and then in those pre-teen years, we have the Jupiter return.

Anytime we have the Jupiter return, we have our hopes coming home. [Music] We get reconnected with what inspires us. We may have a dream come true; we may have something happen to us that we've been working towards and fantasizing about. And these are not Saturn kinds of dreams that come true; these are Jupiter dreams. These are happy things; these are things that we want and that we choose, and that sometimes aren't what we need, but it's the sugar on top. So, we have a great expansion in our life during the Jupiter return regarding what makes us feel like we are making our vision come true for us.

Now, things don't just happen to us after Jupiter return; that's a myth. A lot of people just sit and wait for this downpouring of blessings; it's not that easy. There's still a process of earning that needs to happen, and if we have been using our time well and we've been using our transits well, then we will earn, we will receive some kind of wish fulfillment.

So, the Jupiter return is awesome. Many times, we can make more money, be promoted, we can receive more recognition, and it's very, very common for us to have somebody come into our life that helps us in our education or that we help in their education, and it in turn benefits us. Beneficial people show up for us at the conjunction, at all of the easy aspects, actually: the conjunction, the sextile, the trine. The opposition can bring that as well. I would say it's really only the square that, um, isn't famous for bringing a very helpful relationship into our life.

We don't necessarily start romantic relationships; that can happen under Jupiter transits, but usually that's going to be in conjunction with another transit from a personal planet. Most of the people that we meet are going to be helping us to attain the vision for our life. So, what does the vision for our life mean? It's when you look forward, what you would like to have in your life. When we think about, "Where would I like to be 10 years from now?" that's a lot of Jupiter vision that we're looking through. There may be some Saturn in there as well, but Jupiter is what we hope for. So, it's what you hope will become real for you, and we can get some of those hopes actually delivered to us if we are participating in opportunities, because opportunities can come by, but we may not always take them. They actually imply risk a good deal of the time.

Let's look at the nature of Jupiter; that's the nature of opportunity. Jupiter's a fast dude when it comes to attitude, experience; he wants to taste it all. And if we aren't up for some fun, or for some growth, or for some stretching, or even a little bit of fearful exhilaration, then we may not be open to opportunity. Opportunity is not where everything stays the same; it's an elevation to something else.

So, if we have been taking those opportunities and doing something with them, because we all have some amount of opportunity that comes into our life. Some of us can have more than others, depending on race and social class and status, and all of that can figure in, but all of us have some measure of chance and opportunity coming into our life. And it is up to us to use what opportunities present themselves to us to our best advantage. Jupiter is not going to do the work for us; Jupiter isn't going to unwrap our presents. We have to expend some amount of energy to get the best out of life.

So, somebody who is beneficial to us in a business partnership, education, you can help us to earn more money, who can help us to attain our dream, it's very, very, very common that someone shows up for us, and it may be more than one person. Sometimes it can be the several people that we need just at that opportune moment.

So, we are [Music] expanding greatly at the Jupiter conjunction, the return, and we're feeling pretty optimistic like things may continue to go well for us.

So, we have to be careful with all of the, uh, dynamic Jupiter aspects: the conjunction, the square, the opposition. We have to be careful that we don't do too much, too soon; that's where we can get into trouble. We have to blow up our balloon in a measured enough way, because if we blow it up too quick, it's going to pop. We have to give ourselves time to stretch and fit the new pace.

Pace can be a problem with the difficult Jupiter transits. We can eat too much, spend too much, run too fast, wear ourselves out, and that leads to its own types of consequences. Think of the kinds of consequences that we have for a hangover. We're out partying, we stay out super late, we drink too much, we smoke too much weed, we do whatever it is that we indulge in, and then the next day we may not feel so good. We may have to pay a price because we weren't considering the next morning; we were only playing that evening.

Or, like my husband, is a good example of some Jupiterian expansion where, about at 9:00 p.m., Night Guy comes out. Night Guy doesn't really have any relationship to Day Guy. Night Guy doesn't realize that Day Guy is going to have to get up in the morning. So, we all have a night person and a day person, and if our night person gets out of hand, then we're going to have to pay the piper.

Now, the paying of the piper is not a Saturn type of paying of the piper where we're really going to be feeling it; it's more like we stub our toe with Jupiter stuff, or we may have to back up. Sometimes we may have to apologize because we spent too much, we did too much, took on too much, so we can't finish. So, our reliability can suffer if we aren't being really practical about what we can do, how we can do it, and in what time frame.

So, typically, the Jupiter return is a fabulous aspect; it's a fabulous transit. But it's going to be important to always look at how Jupiter is natally aspected. What is the aspecting? If we have Jupiter aspects to points, typically hard aspects to points or to inner planets, then it is much more likely that we will have some consequences of overdoing or overexpansion: overeating, overspending, overdrinking, overscheduling. But if we have Jupiter in a reasonable position, or if there's a tethered to Saturn in some way, it's much less likely that we'll have consequences related to going off the deep end.

So, when we're talking about transits in this course, it's always important to keep in mind that how a natal planet is aspected means a great deal, because transits aren't going to have us behaving in ways that are uncharacteristic. They can bring out things sometimes that are uncharacteristic, but that's usually going to be something that is meant to open the jacket in a box of repression. What I mean is that we are described by our natal charts, and transits don't cause us to behave in ways that are beyond us; they don't cause us to be somebody else. So, it's important to always consider that the natal position, placement of a planet, is going to be huge in how that transit shows up for us.

So, if we have a lot of Jupiter in our chart, Jupiter aspects a lot of planets or points, or Jupiter-heavy Jupiter transits could be pretty awesome, but they could also bring some backing up and some need to apologize, depending on do we have a hard time with the excesses of Jupiter. But for the most part, the conjunction, the return, is something that everybody waits for because it is a lot of fun.

Uh, Tanya, what if Jupiter is unaspected natally? Then there will not be much of a, there isn't a story when it comes to Jupiter's connections. Jupiter is his own thing. When we have an unaspected planet, it's like we have a choir of 11 that are singing, and then we have this other voice; it's like its own thing. So, it's like we have the Vienna Boys Choir over here, and then we have Freddie Mercury over here as the unaspected planet. Still has a fabulous voice, but it's not harmonizing with what's going on over here with the rest of the choir.

So, it's a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when we have that, because we'll have the bulk of the personality one way, you know, this con, this, um, that mixture of planets and archetypes, and then we have this other pure, unadulterated, unfiltered archetype that is within us. So, you'll see that every once in a while, you'll see that unaspected planet come out as a side of the personality that is unfettered; it's untethered to anything else. So, people can be very, very jovial, laugh very loud, have great enjoyment, and then there's the rest of the personality. So, it's very interesting on aspected planets.

I liken it to biting into a cookie that hasn't had the baking soda completely mixed in, and in every several bites, you're going to get a taste of pure baking soda. So, there's all the rest of the ingredients, and then there's the baking soda. So, when we have Jupiter transits to an unaspected Jupiter, there isn't, um, other planetary conversations going on. So, the chances of excess or of overdoing it are higher because we don't have any other mitigating factors or any other planetary conversations going on; it's a pure thread in our personality. So, we want to watch out how much we're spending, eating, and doing and taking on as well.

Are we ready for the sextile, unless we have any other questions about the Jupiter return? Hmm, okay, in the module, um, for, or the class for the advanced course in 2022 in natal chart interpretation, we'll be doing a whole unit on unaspected planets, so we'll return to the subject again.

So, the Jupiter trine, I'm sorry, Jupiter sextile to natal Jupiter. Sextiles are amazing aspects, both in the natal chart, in synastry, and in transit as well. These are quiet aspects, but oh my gosh, are they helpful! We make a lot of progress when we have sextiles afoot.

So, we're going from the conjunction, that's the beginning of the cycle. Now we come to the sextile, which is an easy aspect. Sextiles indicate industriousness; we're going to get to work, but not in a nose-to-the-grindstone kind of way. We're happy to do what it is we're doing; it's like, uh, we feel like we want to be doing what it is; it's not a "have to" situation.

So, sextiles are where we have a very, very good idea of our relationship between our available resources and our vision. What do we want to build? What do we want for ourselves? Where do we want to go? So, we're really good at seeing what we've got and then seeing what we can do with it, how far we can go. Efficient use of resources is an extremely underestimated skill. I mean, this is, this is where someone's really got it going on, where they can see what they need to do, and then they can look at how much do I have available to do that, and then accurately be able to plan accordingly. A lot of people don't have that ability; they don't have the ability to take stock. And, uh, sextiles make us really look around and see, "What have I got to support what kind of happiness I'm trying to create for myself, and how can I gain better support, how can I gain more resources?"

So, we will experience quiet raises. What I mean by a quiet raise is it may just maybe be a quarter, maybe be a dime, but it's something; it's something that helps us to continue building towards that dream. We do find more supportive people, not generally as dramatically as we do with the conjunction, the Jupiter return, or with the Jupiter opposition, but these are still very helpful people. And these will, these are people who will have very practical skills that we can utilize, or they can teach us things that may not be the sexiest subjects, but God, is it ever helpful? Is it ever useful? It's useful knowledge that we build and collect and are interested in, and useful people, people who have got what we need at the time.

So, we don't come in contact with the most glamorous individuals, but they are efficient in what they can do for us and what they can bring us. And we may find that work runs very, very easily. Relationships are generally pretty easy. We have a perspective that is growing with the sextile. Our perspective, uh, grows largely at the Jupiter return and may even change some, because if we have a dream attained, we may have to decide, "What are we going to do now?" When we have something come to us that we've always wanted, sometimes we're at loose ends. So, we may have to really stop and decide, "What is my dream now, or what is my new dream, or how can I upcycle my old dream?"

So, at the sextile, we are really having an easy time when it comes to working with others; so easy to put our heads together. Other people want to contribute to us; we want to contribute to others. It's a good give and take at the sextile; it's not just us getting from other people. We are also willing to help them. So, an extremely beneficial transit to have, and it's going to help us position ourselves for the upcoming square.

We don't want to waste the easy transits, because these are the points of rest and recollection as we prepare for the hard transit. In the past, I've used the example of a hike. We're at the conjunction; we're starting on that hike uphill. We hike, hike uphill until we get to the sextile, and that's where we level off for a while. It's pretty even; the grass is easy to get through. We don't have to use a lot of effort, apply ourselves very much to continue to keep going. We have a chance to chat with friends, make some alliances, find out more about the trail and where we're going, what to expect, position ourselves, because we know that we have an uphill climb that is going to be one of the most difficult legs of the hike. So, we eat, we drink, we rest, we make friends, we prepare.

So, when we get to that 90-degree square, we are ready. It makes the difficult transits so much less difficult when we are thinking ahead and we are positioning ourselves for that difficulty, because we are being mindful when we are getting in place, when we are preparing. We aren't just being battered about by the cycles of life. So, once we get to the sextile and we experience the good stuff that can come with that, we are on to the square.

So, the square is one of the transits in the cycle that can bring some of the excesses that we've talked about: overdoing, overeating, overplanning, overaccepting, overcommitting. We can get some really good things out of the square. The square can be a fun time, but we have to be careful not to blow our balloon up with too much hot air, because it can pop. We can have some disappointments with the square from Jupiter to Jupiter. It could be sometimes too much of a good thing.

I once ate an entire angel food cake by myself with the Jupiter square. I also did that with the Jupiter on the ascendant. Both of them can bring gains, whether they're supposed to be good or not so good. So, some of us can receive more of a promotion, more money, more income, more good stuff, and some of us can have some of that good stuff come in but not really contribute to our happiness, like when I ate the entire angel food cake. It contributed to the fat on my butt, but it didn't really make me happy in the long run.

So, we have to, Stacy, she's vibing with me tonight. I think we might have a lot of cake eaters in here. Um, so there's a, there's a need to, there's a need to control ourselves. [Laughter] "Let them eat cake!" Yes, all of us, we all need to control ourselves. Oh, I think, Tanya, there are some non-cake eaters that exist, but probably because they've learned their lesson naturally. I think we all want to be abundant cake eaters, but with Jupiter, it reminds us that we can have our cake and we can eat it too, but not all of it in one sitting. We need to, these comments are so funny, we need to watch out for being too exuberant and growing too big, too fast, whether that be physically, whether that be in our business, whether that be in a new relationship. If we get too big, too fast, if the bubble blows up too fast, when bubbles burst, they go right back to former value. This is something that the stock markets teach us; really, really good place to study bubbles. When a bubble forms and then it bursts, things go to the same, back to the same price than they originally were, the same value that they originally were before the bubbles started to blow up. So, there was actually no gain, and that's what we can get into with these Jupiter hard transits: is getting going after something and trying to gain too fast, and that results in a no gain, and we've wasted our time. And we don't want to do that, because we only have so much time; that's what Saturn transits teach us.

So, we have to be careful about [Music] what we are taking on and how we are estimating. Our estimation at the sextile is excellent; our estimation of the square, not so excellent. We can be off when it comes to our planning, when it comes to looking at our dream, our goal, our vision, and then seeing, "What have we got to back that up?" We may not be accurate about what we think we've got, so we have to double-check what it is that is in our, our wallet, is in our pocket, the resource that we have to get somewhere. But most people are very positive with, uh, the Jupiter square, but that positivity is what could get us into trouble. So, all the Jupiter aspects of Jupiter do bring good things, but once again, can be too much of a good thing.

Are we ready for the trine? Did anybody have any specific questions about the square? Hmm, okay, let's talk about the trine. Uh, similar to the sextile, but less active. Sextiles are so wonderful because, although they're quiet, we get a lot done; we're extremely effective. Trines are wonderful because we feel good, and there's an ease in which we're functioning, but we may not necessarily produce with trines. It's kind of similar with quintiles and biquintiles, where quintiles are very, very active; biquintiles are like we've already finished that activity. So, sextile is where we're building, building, active, and trines are where we've kind of come to a comfort level with that; we're good at it; we don't feel like we need to add anything more.

So, we've started out on our hike at the conjunction; we started out uphill. We got to the sextile; we evened out, had a break, prepared. Now we've gotten to the square; we really had to push through uphill. And now we've gotten to the trine; it's like a big plateau, a big meadow that we come into. The ground is soft and springy. We have to assert ourselves and not at all to get to where we're going, and at the trine, we can see the peak of the mountain super well. We are, we know we are close, and so we're taking our time, like, "Yeah, I'm ahead of schedule anyway; I'm not going to push it." This is my time to eat my power bar and tell jokes, find a place to pee, and do all the things that are going to make me comfortable when it comes to that last push ahead.

So, at the trine, we may not put as much in place as maybe we should when it comes to going forward, preparing for our dream, getting our dream, but we're very easy to get along with, and we have a pretty darn, um, a pretty darn good perspective. Because at the level of the trine, see, we've come pretty far up the mountain; we've hiked pretty far here, and we're almost to the top; we're like 80% there. So, we are looking back at everything that we've come through; we're looking down the mountain. We're not to the top completely, but we have enough perspective where we can look down and all around.

So, trines are where we don't try. And when we think of trines, we, if you think of the word "try," "trying," "try, try, trying," that gives us a clue. I call them "not trying" because we're not trying to not try. So, we are, we're enjoying ourselves, and in that enjoyment, we may forget to work.

Now, what we can do to position ourselves well during the trine is we can form alliances, make friends, invite people into our life, be on the lookout for people who have what it is that we're missing, shore up our toolbox for what's to come, which is the last push to the top. Because at the top, we're going to look back and see, "Is this where I want to be, and is this, or when is this direction the direction I want to keep going in?" At the trine, we're pretty sure that we're going to get there, and when we're pretty sure about something, we're not in a hubbub to make sure.

So, some people waste their trines; they waste their Jupiter trines not using their agreeableness to bring the kinds of people, relationships, situations into their life that get them closer to their hopes and their dreams. We're pretty likable, and we like other people. We're, there's a tolerantness, tolerant, I don't think that's a word, a toleration, I don't think that's a word either, but you all know what I'm getting at: tolerance. Tolerance, it's just tolerance; I don't have to add anything to it. How Jupiter is that? I'm going to add a bunch of syllables to it. I'm having my Jupiter conjunction right now, the Jupiter return, so things are big. So, there's a tolerance for who people are and people's weirdness, and we may not have a lot of expectations about the people around us. We may not have a great deal of expectations about ourselves, and so as we rest on our laurels, we get lazy. And this is a great time to get busy, but most of us don't think to do it when we're having the Jupiter trine.

So, when it's your turn, when it's your trine, remind yourself to get to work in some form. Now, it doesn't mean that we're going to be breaking a sweat; that's not trine kind of work. Trine is, trine work [Music] is, ah, Jamie, how wonderful. Trine work is, um, fun work. It's not square work where we're doing heavy lifting. Trine work is more like, "Let's go out to lunch, let's hang out, hey, I'm going to give you a break, and you've given me one too." What Jamie's going through, we do get a break at this point, but we want to use that break to socialize, to bring people closer to us, to, uh, to jump into our dream rather than sit on the sidelines.

So, many of us are not going to notice our Jupiter trines, and we're not going to notice our Jupiter sextiles either, because it's the lack of friction that really is the hallmark of that transit. It's usually friction that brings our attention to something. So, we have to consciously bring our attention to it during the trine: what it is that we want to build and the vision for our life, because it's not going to be automatic. We won't have things going wrong that make us really start to think, but this is a great time for taking any kind of positive action towards the fulfillment of our hopes and our dreams, because it's going to work out. We're really good at seeing what we've done, and we've been through some things by this point when we get to the trine, where we've gained experience and perspective that can make life just a cruise for a while. Really, really, really good transit, which brings us to the opposition.

So, this is the peak in the cycle; this is what things have been culminating towards and building towards for about six years. So, we feel like, um, we're on top of the world when we have the opposition. We can feel very confident; we can feel like, "I've gotten a lot that's coming to me." We can feel like we want to expand and grow. This can be a, um, it could be a very peacockish time for a lot of us. And if we get too peacocky, if we get too proud, then that's why we run into trouble. People can actually try to hold us back or stand in our way because we can piss people off with our attitude of, "You know what, just the greatest." A lot of people don't want to hear that; they're, they're going to knock us down off our peg, knock us down a peg or two, I mean. So, we have to watch our pride and how loud we are being. We can not realize that we're being obnoxious at the Jupiter opposition.

Um, I've seen a lot of people cause problems on social media, their Jupiter opposition, just simply by not thinking. They're not trying to cause problems, but it's one of those things where, "I'm just going to express myself and have at it." But keep in mind that there are consequences for expressing yourself; there are. I think these days we, we don't really understand that. I think a lot of the time where we're like, "No, it's freedom of speech!" Well, yes, absolutely, but that doesn't happen in isolation. There will be consequences for your freedom of speech; there will be people who don't necessarily agree with you or push back or, or, or, or upset with your point of view, and that's a part of the reality of life. So, freedom of speech and freedom of expression doesn't mean automatic acceptance; doesn't mean that, that we should or will be accepted. And when we aren't, well, we're being censored or held back. No, freedom of speech is you get to say it, and whatever happens, well, that's the consequence of it.

So, with Uranus and Jupiter transits, we need to be mindful of what and how we're expressing. So, if we are just being, uh, if we're, if we're being too loose with who and how we are, meaning we're not, we're not watching ourselves, we're not being mindful, it's, it's sort of like, um, we're lacking discipline. That's what it is at the core of it is we are acting without discipline for a period of time, and we may not get the promotions, we may not get the accolades, the positions, the recognition that we want if we are being too wild. So, we may have to dial it back a bit if we see that people are not getting on board with helping us out, they're not getting on board with promoting us, whether that be socially or in our job or when it comes to our projects or what we've got going on. And then we may have to, you know, dial things back and gain control of ourselves.

For a lot of people, the opposition is just absolutely fabulous. And if you don't have a party Jupiter in your natal chart, if you've got a Saturny Jupiter, you're not going to have any problem with overexpansion. Um, the Jupiter opposition could probably be very good for you when it comes to pushing you into expanding beyond what is normally comfortable, which could be very good for you in particular. But some of us who have oppositions, I have one, we have to be careful about those Jupiter transits. Um, the opposition can bring us to the peak of what we've been working towards; it can bring us to really look back and see, "You know what, I've gotten some of the things that I want; I've had some wish fulfillment here; I've got some good things going on."

And then we continue to build on that after the opposition as we get to the sextile, because these, these transits that we've just talked about, happen again going back to the conjunction. So, how we talked about the sextile being productive, industrious, that's where we are again after we've had the opposition. Now, if we are at a place where we're like, "I'm doing pretty good; I'm starting to see some good results here; I'm growing; things are building," we continue to build on that with the sextile. But if we get to the opposition, we find out, "Ooh, too much of a good thing," or, um, [Music] "some of the hot air is coming out of this balloon," or, "Ah, my dreams have popped rather than been fulfilled," that's when we start to rebuild. That's, we start to retool. We use that sextile to put some hot air back into our balloon, and then we get to the square. And then we have that test again: "Am I doing okay when it comes to my pace? Am I able to look at my hopes and my dreams and my resources and then know, do I have enough? Do I have enough to support me the rest of my journey to get me to where I'm going?"

So, we get into some excesses again with the square. So, I'm overdoing it and then needing to dial it back because we got a hangover, and then we're back to the trine, where now we have some time because we feel good. We're not being, you know what, not juggling so many Jupiterian balls in the air. We have some time to take a breather, to prepare, to make alliances, relationships, situate ourselves so that we are ready for the conjunction.

So, there's a, um, there's a rhythm to life when we study transits; there's a rhythm to our growth, and we can use transits to position ourselves in the best possible way to know that, "Hey, during this year, this is going to be a highlight in my life; this is what I better do now to get ready for that." I call that heading off the bad transits. When we do that, we still may experience some of the difficulties that difficult transits can bring; we probably will, but we're going to be in a better position. It can be less difficult because we're helping ourselves; we're actively positioning ourselves. Sort of like, uh, if you are playing baseball and you are out in the field way out with your catcher's mitt, you know that that fast-flying ball is going to come at you, and if you don't look for it, it might hit you. But if you look for it and then you get yourself positioned right, you can catch it. It's still going to make an impact on your glove, but it's not going to hit you in the face. So, there's a, there's a padding that we can provide for ourselves when we are expending the energy to position ourselves.

And the Jupiter transits that we receive are just wonderful; they're wonderful to watch your children go through because we can actually see in real time how they are achieving some happiness in their lives. Saturn transits are also interesting to watch children go through; that's, uh, typically when they're being hit with their worst lessons. But the Saturn transits, particularly when they have the sextile with the trine, and they really like us, those are really fun to watch.
