These are the brand new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, and we're going to talk about what's new, but also to see if the upgrades are they really worth it, or if you should just stick with the original, or consider other [Music] options.
Good news for us, the controllers are pretty much exactly the same. Mainly, I say that because if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it, right? You'll have your volume controls on the right side of you, exactly where they were previously. Now, there are some minor changes, and I'll share those with you in a bit. On your left side, you have this button that is easily accessible. This will be for play, pause, skip, and repeat.
An interesting thing is that when I got these 3 weeks ago, I kind of noticed right away that the controllers, they felt a little bit different. And if you actually notice and look closely, they are significantly lifted more. And we'll get to address the charger later in this video, but also the play/pause button, it got rotated. These changes might feel small because honestly, like the first generation ones, they felt fine. But I feel like these small changes is what's going to make the experience even better, especially if you're like me. Now that I live somewhere where it's going to get cold this winter, and if you're going to use gloves, this is just going to make the experience even better.
Multi-point connection works flawless. This allows you to pair two devices at the same time. I'm currently listening to Nick Bear's audiobook while getting my Garmin watch prompts. That's pretty much where all the similarities end. Everything else is pretty much brand new.
One of the more exciting things is that they finally ditched that native charger and they adapted USB-C. And by now, from this channel, you guys know I've tried a lot of these open-ear headphones. Everyone has been using USB-C earbuds, over-the-ear headphones, everyone except for this open-ear market. There's nothing difficult about carrying a charger, but now having USB-C on the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, it makes so much sense.
The second biggest upgrade for me is going to be the [Music] sound. I'm going to compare the two, but what you need to know right now is that this first generation uses bone conduction. I'm actually going to get someone better to explain this than [Music] me. Let me go ahead and put on my thinking cap. When you take bone conduction headphones, remember these are the OpenRun Pro, and you put it up to something like this, check what happens. Pretty cool, right? The sound is being amplified. If you were to try this with earbuds or over-the-ear headphones, you wouldn't get this experience. Now, bone conduction has this transducer right over here that when you put these on, let me wiggle my my brain here, it lays on top of your cheekbone, and your body is now what amplifies the sound. Pretty neat, right?

The OpenRun Pro 2, what's dual pitch technology? The way I would describe these is, imagine if you take the great bone conduction quality from the Shokz OpenRun Pro and you mix it with the air conduction of the Shokz OpenFit, Air. Blend those two together. This gives you the best of both worlds and a lot less vibrations. Just check how much the first generation vibrated. I like that it vibrates a lot less because of this right here. I'm referring to the sunglasses. I kind of felt like the vibrations on the older bone conduction ones felt a little bit distracting.

Let's try something a little bit more, something a little bit louder, because I don't really cycle, stick my head out the window, using specifically the microphone on the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, going at 20 mph. So it says that they added an AI noise reduction algorithm that claims to filter 96.5% of background noise. I mean, I believe it. You heard how well it sounded with those windy conditions.
But stay with me, there's actually three more noticeable changes on these. This is the case to the OpenRun Pro 2, the second generation. And now this is the case to the first one. So you'll notice the case got a bit bigger. I would have rather them go smaller, or at least stay the same in the case, but not larger. And good news though, at least if you look inside, there is a very nice detail. We now have a small compartment for our charging cable right underneath the headphones. You can notice I actually uh, haven't even used the USB-C cable that came with it, and that's the beautiful thing because most of us already have this in the house, in our bags. But we already talked about this.
The second thing worth mentioning is going to be just throughout the video, have you noticed how well organized these have been just because they clasp together versus the first generation? Well, they've been dangling this entire time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any other open-ear headphone do that. And as promised, the third thing worth mentioning is that on paper, it says that it has 16% less clamping force. Honestly, they're both really comfortable, and I'm talking about like, all-day comfort.
But that brings me to part three. There are still things I would like to see out of the current lineup from Shokz. I would easily say that that these are my favorite and the ones that I'm going to use moving forward. But I do have three suggestions that I think Shokz can implement on these, and I know I'm nitpicking. First, make the case smaller. I love that they give you a protective case, but it just feels a little bit overkill. Second, the volume controllers, remove the beeping noise when you increase or decrease the volume, referring to this right here. Third thing, and I know this is a long shot, but I would really like to see some type of trade-in program for these. So I already know Shokz has a 45-day trial on them. You have a 2-year warranty, which is like 95% better than all the other companies. But still, if they were the first to do a trade-in program, that would be awesome.
