Okay, one of the things that I love Chat GPT for in the job search process is interview coaching. It's great to get practice in. It's great to get feedback, and I wanted to go through a quick demo so you can see how powerful it is.
Uh, first, you have to have Chat GPT Pro. And second, I'm not sure if this works in all browsers, but for this to work, you need to have the voice activation mode right here in order to do it.
First thing that I'm going to do is, what we're going to do is we're going to, you would add a job description. So, let me just copy this in. So, uh, digital project product manager. Um, so I've already copied this. So, I'm going to say, "You are an HR expert and interview coach. Please analyze the job description and generate the top 10 questions to ask in an interview. Here is the job description." So, we're going to paste that in.
And then also, what I'd recommend doing is saying, "Here is my resume," adding that in. And you can also ask it what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can develop your answers around that. But for this demo, this is just a quick demo of how it works.
So, first, what we're going to do is generate those questions. So, once it develops all of those questions, then what we're going to do is go into voice mode once it's ready. So, uh, this is great to do to figure out what, what questions you get to be ready for and have stories for each of these. Always recommend STAR stories: Situations, Tasks, um, Actions, Results.
So, now what we're going to do, and this is, this is the power of this demo that we set it up, is use voice mode. So, I'm going to go here and do that.
"Okay. You are my interview coach. Please ask me questions, including starting with 'Tell me about yourself,' and after each answer, give me feedback on how to improve my responses. Is that clear?"
"Absolutely. Let's get started. First question, tell me about yourself."
"So, I'm a product manager with seven years of experience, including working at, uh, Notion, Dropbox, as well as Uber, and I excel in both, um, B2C marketplaces and apps, um, including working on products that have impacted over a million users, increasing revenue by 15%, and cross-collaborating with UX and development to ensure on-time delivery in an agile environment. And why I'm most excited about this Carnival job is that I get to leverage these past experiences and really work in an environment, uh, in an industry that I'm really passionate about, which is travel, with one of the leaders in the travel industry."
"Great start. You highlighted your relevant experience and impact. Here's some feedback for improvement. One, structure and flow. Consider using a clear structure like past, present, future. For example, 'I started my career at Uber focusing on X, then moved to Dropbox to enhance Y, and most recently at Notion, I achieved Z. Now I'm excited to bring these skills to Carnival.' Two, quantify achievements. You mentioned increasing revenue by 15%, which is great. Adding more specific examples or metrics like the size of the teams you led or notable projects can strengthen your pitch. Tailor to the role. Emphasize how your past experience directly aligns with the key responsibilities in this role, like leading cross-functional teams or using the specific tools mentioned. Passion and fit. You highlighted your passion for the travel industry, which is excellent. You might also mention why Carnival specifically excites you, such as their reputation or recent innovations. Let's try your response again with these tips in mind. Can you first provide me with a sample response that you think would be much better to help me model that?"
"Of course. Here's a polished sample response. Certainly. I am a product manager with seven years of experience in the tech industry, having worked with companies like Uber, Dropbox, and Notion. I began my career at Uber where I focused on scaling B2C marketplace products, which helped me hone my skills in user engagement and growth strategies. At Dropbox, I led cross-functional teams to launch collaborative features that enhanced productivity for millions of users. Most recently at Notion, I managed end-to-end product life cycles, resulting in a 15% revenue increase and a more intuitive user experience. I'm particularly excited about the opportunity at Carnival because it combines my passion for the travel industry with my expertise in managing consumer-facing digital products. I'm eager to leverage my experience in agile environments and data-driven decision-making to contribute to Carnival's innovative booking journey. This version is structured, highlights key achievements, and clearly connects your experience to the role. Feel free to adapt it to your personal style."
"All right, thank you. I'm going to pause for right now, but I appreciate your help."
"You're welcome. Anytime. Good luck with your prep and feel free to reach out if you need more help later."
All right. So, one note is that don't interrupt the computer when they're in the middle of the chat, or else you won't get this written out. So, for example, if I had stopped in the middle of a response, this output wouldn't have been here. And this is great for you to copy and paste, model. And you can do this with all of the questions, um, above.
So, use this as an interview coach to get feedback and have some reps speaking out your answers because the feedback is great. You can do this with your STAR stories. Um, and so what I'd recommend is like, with each of these, figure out what STAR stories you tell first. Have a note or two so that you're not just going in blind, um, A, to the interview or B, to this practice, and, um, and then that way you can use the interview coach to sharpen your axe.
So, hopefully you found this useful. Again, this is voice mode. Um, and you can make it even better with uploading your resume. Um, and if you want to go a step further, um, at some point I'll probably provide instructions on how to make a custom GPT that, uh, has your resume as a knowledge base, um, and then B, all you would have to do is, uh, upload a job description and, um, you know, you'd click the voice mode and then you'd be off to the races.
So, hope you found this useful. Use this for your job interview practice. It is gold.
