A warm welcome to this talk. Now today I'll be talking about a study from China where they've identified a corona virus that has got a 100% fatality in mice. Of all the mice that were infected, they all died.
Now this is the paper here. It's a preprint paper. And I must say I'm a little surprised it's been published because um the situation in China is often um shall we say not always amunable to full peer review. So I'm a little surprised to see this paper. I'm just wondering if someone's going to get told off for publishing it. But anyway, let's look at it because it's quite concerning. So we see 100% death rate from a SARS virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome type virus and these are the references that we've looked at. There's also a good report in the Epoch Times.
Now it's actually related to uh panggalins. Now panggalins are those much abused creatures. People have stupid ideas about their blood being good for health or something. They're basically like an anteater, but they they do carry corona virus type um viruses as indeed do do many animals. So that's where this derived from this particular virus, but it killed 100% of these transgenic mice, which is really quite concerning. I just just mention this briefly. So transgenic mice are mice, but they've been given a human gene. And in this case, they've been given the gene for the A2 receptor, which of course is the receptor that the SARS viruses fit into. So they're mice that can be experimented on, but they've got human type receptors. Now, you might think that's unethical research to combine genetically humans and mice, but that's what's been done. They're called transgenic mice, but as we say with a human a human gene already uh or human gene inserted into them.
So SARS coronavirus 2 related pengling corona virus. Now the virus itself is called GX underline P2V very snappy name 100% mortality in these transgenic mice. Um now the death seemed to be caused by latestage brain infection. So they got infection in the lungs and the nose and the trachea as you would expect with a respiratory transmitted virus. But then they actually they got better from that but they died of brain infection. I guess would call it an enkeaphilitis, a viral infection in the brain itself. Not a nice way to die at all. So they think it's latestage brain infection.
Now the authors uh this one is from Beijing Advanced Information Center Beijing again fifth medical center of Beijing Medical School Nanjing University China including a doctor who chained and worked in infection labs with the Chinese military. So again, I'm a bit surprised this was published to be quite honest. And you know, today a war has been started to to prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons. Um these weapons potentially made from viruses are just dangerous and yet this dangerous research is going on and no one really seems to say much about it, let alone start a war about it. Um, so related to the Chinese military, yeah, that that is a concern. I'm not I'm not singling out the Chinese, of course. All militaries are doing this around the world. Um, it's just that most of them don't publish. This one sort of slipped through the net for some reason, which is why we're covering it with with some concern. But this is happening. We can rest assured this is happening all around the world. This is not just in China. And it kind of makes sense because if if bad guys are doing it, whoever the bad guys are, then I guess we need to do it as well if we're the good guys or are we the bad guys these days? It gets very confusing, but it's being done. It's kind of a mutual arms race in a sense, isn't it? It's happening.
Purpose of the study was declared to assess the pathogenicity of the virus. So this study was actually done to see how likely this virus was to kill people. Basically that's why it was done in transgenic humanized mice. Were they looking for viruses which are particularly dangerous to humans? Well, that's what they say. The study was done to assess assess pathogenicity, right? Risk 100% infection fatality rate underscore spillover risk of this virus gx_p2v into humans. That's what the authors say. Yeah, it's a big risk and yet you're fiddling on with it and yet there's a risk of spill over into humans and as we'll see potentially, we don't know, but potentially a big risk of another lab leak for a virus that's 100% fatality with brain infection. This is pretty frightening stuff actually that this is being done and and as I said, I'm sure it's not just in China. I'm sure this has been done all around the world. depends how good the biocurity is.
Provides a unique model for understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of SARS and virus 2 viruses. Yeah, it does. But I don't care. I'd rather not die. Thank you very much. than than know about some obscure aspect of viral pathophysiology. Right.
Some details. It was actually isolated from a cell culture adapted mutant. And in this study, they cloned the mutant. So in in other words they um they isolate they actually had a cell culture. So they were culturing cells and the mutant arose in that. So this GXP2B is a mutant and then they thought oh oh that's interesting let's clone it up. So they made more copies of it. So they found a mutant that had very high pathogenicity and thought oh let's make lots more copies of this because then we can study how dangerous is how likely it is to kill people. That's what the paper says. Uh now it's not a wild type virus. So this is entirely a laboratory created virus completely. It's not a wild type virus. If you go and look in pangland you won't find a virus like this. It arose in the cell culture in the lab when it was being jiggled around with. Right. So, it's not a wild type virus. It's possible that the GXP2V uh not sure why there's a C7 there. Ignore that. Has undergone a virilent virilence enhancing mutation, but I think that's pretty likely, don't you? Capable of rapid mutation rate. So, it is consistent with that.
High viral loads were detected in the lungs and brain. Surprisingly, all the mice that were infected with the live virus succumb to the infection within 7 to 8 days post inoculation. So, the researchers were actually surprised by how deadly this virus was. But having found out how deadly it was, there's no indication that they shut the experiment down. It just seemed to carry on. 100% mortality. Now, it was only in about 12 mice altogether with about 12 controls, but nevertheless, 100% mortality. Not good. I wouldn't like to experiment on me or you to find out how dangerous it it actually is in humans. Although we suspect because it's using human A2 receptor sites, it could well be highly dangerous to humans, potentially killing us with brain infections. Not a good way. Not a good way to die at all.
Clinical features, weight loss, pyo erection. That means basically means the hair stood on end. Uh hunch posture. So again that's nervous systemish hunch posture today with the nervous system sluggish movements is a nervous system thing and their eyes turn white although no details are given but I must say I hate the sound of it the eyes turned white not uh not not good significant amount of viral arvin are found in the brain lung turbineate which of course is part of the anatomy inside the nose eye trachea reducing with infection time so it seems to affect particularly here the eye and the uh and the brain. Um of course the eye is connected to the to the nervous system directly um by the second cranial nerve but um doesn't say it doesn't we don't we we don't have details on that so we don't know.
Infection did not lead to significant inflammatory reactions or cytoine storm. So these mice were dying of brain infection, not the cytoine storm that people died of uh in in the pandemic. So it's a different pathological mechanism, 100% deadly pathological mechanism that seems to have been identified. Um, so uh brain with high viral counts increasing during infection. So as time went on, the level of viral infection in the brain increased.
Now I did just I didn't know so I did a bit of homework and I checked uh A2 receptors angotensin converting enzyme receptors are found in the human brain. So just a bit of homework I did there. It's found in the brain stem which regulates breathing cardiovascular control. Hypothalamus which regulates things like temperature and other homeostatic mechanisms. Substantia which controls movement that's that's what goes wrong in Parkinson's disease actually very often. Cortex of the outer part of the brain but in low levels endothelial cells lining cereal blood vessels in other words it could be anywhere some neurons and the gilel cells which are the supportive cells and the coroid plexus which produces the cerebrros spinal fluid in in the ventricles so so for sure these ACE receptors are found in the human brain so let's hope experiments haven't been done on people but it is a real risk because these receptors are in the human brain so it could potentially cause enkeilitis in humans with 100% fatality. Don't like the sound of it at all.
Neither do certain other people. This is Justin Keany, associate professor, Simon Center for Quantitative Biology, Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory, USA. I'm especially concerned uh uh professor Keaney says, I'm especially concerned that the paper does not say what biosafety level the work was performed at. Corona virus research in China is often done at biosafety level two that is inadequate for working with potential pandemic pathogens that might be transmitted by air. Um real risk of leaking here real risk of leaking with 100% fatality. This is a bit a bit concerning isn't it? Um, right indeed corona virus research may be done at BSL level two may have caused the pandemic. Yeah, we think uh it's a pretty short debate now really that the pandemic arose in the uh lab in Wuhan according to at least two American intelligence agencies, US intelligence agencies. uh and by the showing that the corona virus has a surprisingly high pathogenicity, the work underscores the need for extreme caution when working with novel corona viruses. I agree.
Justin Goodman, senior vice president of the white coat waste project, a US nonprofit. China based scientists have been conducting dangerous and deadly tests on mice. I would agree. This is why shipping US tax dollars to foreign advers advers adversaries unaccountable animal labs is a recipe for disaster. Um, I don't know. I didn't read any evidence that this was done with US funding to be honest. And this genuinely wasn't done in an attempt to gain function. They they found this mutant although I suppose yeah they found it that had gained function just through spontaneous mutations. But then of course they cloned it to make billions trillions of copies of it. So it was kind of let never let a good crisis go to waste sort of situation I suppose.
So there we are. Concerning research being carried on in China for sure. We know from this publication. I suspect this publication will not go on to full publication in a peer-reviewed journal cuz I think it might have been published by mistake to be quite honest because it's it's incredibly transparent. Uh probably being done at a lab near you uh as well. There we have it. Don't have nightmares. There's lots of problems in this world. Um, nuclear risks, chemical risks, viological risks, completely real. These are ex existential threats to humanity. And basically, we need to get our act together, don't we?
