You have known Joe Bryant, Pam Bryant, Kobe's parents for a very long time, and even though Kobe, almost his entire life. But how did this news hit you?
I was known because one of my sons that I raised, Taylor Marshall, called me as I was on my way to DC for Coach Morgan Wootten's service this past Monday and gave us the news. And I'm saying, I really couldn't process. I was hoping there was a hopes because there have been hopes been played. I remember a few years back, somebody put out there on Monroe had passed. So I was hoping that it wasn't what I really heard. And then become find out later on that it was. And also his daughter. And then the other people as well. So, you know, we go out with our hearts to all of them. A terrible tragedy.
The Sixers are going to honor Kobe and all of those victims tonight. What do you think his legacy in Philadelphia will be?
Well, I think his legacy across the world will be he used basketball as a format to get to where he wanted to get. And now he was in a position to reach back and make others in a situation that would be beneficial for them by using his basketball platform, but his larger platform to make the society we live in a better place for everybody. And maybe a little note in there because he had all girls and his daughter was going to play some basketball. So that's put a lot more business on what you did when you were growing up. He told you the basketball player? No, that's true. He did a lot for women's basketball. You would have continued to do so much.
Your favorite Kobe Bryant memory?
Favorite Kobe Bach memory is probably his last game here. I'm out here as they're warming up right now. He ran up to me, gave me a big bear hug, which you always do. I'm looking back, I got my hat on. He takes my hat, push it on his head, and we take a picture together.
