Google's AI Just Killed The Marketing Funnel 🤯

Google just killed the marketing funnel Tuesday on stage, and almost nobody connected what they actually said. If you own a business and you've spent the last 3 years building landing pages, optimizing ads, running email sequences, that whole stack just got a new audience, and the audience is not a human anymore.

I watched the IO 2026 keynote twice. I read the press kit, and there are three announcements buried in it that, taken together, rewrite how customers find businesses online. Most founders caught one. Almost nobody caught all three.

In the next 7 minutes, I'm going to walk you through all three, show you what they mean together, and give you the one shift you need to make in the next 90 days. If you skip this, you get invisible. Stay with me, okay?

Let me set the table. Google IO 2026 happened Tuesday. Everyone covered Gemini 3.5. Everyone covered the new flash model. The headlines were benchmarks, faster inference, bigger context windows, the usual. That's not what mattered this week.

Three things happened in the same 7 days that, taken together, matter more than any benchmark Google has shipped in 5 years, and the coverage I've seen so far has caught maybe one of them at a time.

The first one is a quiet search core update that just made SEO the most unpredictable channel it's been in a decade. The second one is something called Universal Cart, paired with a protocol called AP2, that I'll explain in a minute. The third one is Google Omni, a new video model with an AI avatar feature so good my friend posted a commercial yesterday that nobody in the comments noticed was fake.

Watch how these stack. Here's what they actually mean. SEO just slowed down to a crawl. Start with search. Google rolled out another core update this week. The kind that quietly moves websites from page one to page four overnight. No warning, no clear path back. Here's the part that should make you sit up. Google's own documentation says recovery from a core update can take, and I'm quoting them, "several months, sometimes longer." If your organic traffic dropped this week, you might be waiting on the next core update before anything moves at all.

Think about what that means. SEO has been the most predictable channel in marketing for 15 years. You write good content, you get good links, you optimize for the right keywords, you rank. Slow, but reliable. As of this week, it's the least predictable it's been in a decade. I'm watching this happen to founders I work with right now. People who built their entire business on organic Google traffic. Their floor just moved, and some of them don't know it yet. They're going to log into Search Console in 3 weeks, see a graph that fell off a cliff, and not understand what hit them. That's reveal one. Your most reliable channel just got less reliable.

But, here's the thing. Even if SEO came back tomorrow, it wouldn't matter as much as it used to. And that's because of reveal two. Universal Cart and Agent Payments Protocol. This is the announcement everyone missed because it sat in the shopping section of the keynote, and most tech press skipped it.

Here's what Universal Cart does. It's an AI shopping cart inside Google. It finds deals across multiple retailers. It anticipates what you need based on what you've bought before. It runs real-time compatibility checks. Like, if you're building a custom PC, and you add a motherboard and a CPU to your cart, Gemini instantly flags that they won't work together. It suggests alternatives. It picks the payment method, and it checks out across multiple stores in one click.

Look at that flow. Every single one of those steps used to be a touch point where your brand earned the click. The product page where they read your copy, the reviews where they trusted you, the checkout where they entered their card, all of it gone into one agent action.

Now layer the second piece on top. Google also rolled out something called the agent payments protocol, AP2 for short. AP2 is the financial rails that let an agent spend your customers' money on their behalf. With limits the customer sets, with approval flows built in. Translation, Google just built the infrastructure for agents to buy things without your customer ever opening a browser. This is not a 2030 thing. This is not a someday in the future thing. It's rolling out in the United States this summer, Canada and Australia after months, not years.

So reveal two is this. Your customer's next purchase decision will not be made by your customer. It will be made by an agent acting for them.

And then there's reveal three, which is the one that hits founders personally. Omni is a new video model with an AI avatar feature. And the avatar feature is good. I mean, genuinely good. Better than I expected, and I expected a lot. Here's the proof. Yesterday my friend Jay Vix posted a full-length commercial on Facebook. Every single character in the commercial, including him, was AI-generated. Every voice, every face, every gesture. I watched the comments, real people, real engagement. The top comment was someone saying, "Dang Jay, that's really good. I can't get over how good your audio is." They didn't clock it. They thought it was him.

My team is testing ours right now. We're pushing the limits, trying to break it, trying to find where it falls apart. Here's a quick example. We're not there yet. You can only do 10-second clips and have to upgrade to the $200 Google AI Ultra plan to do more. But, look where we're at. Google avatars natively inside Gemini. That's wild.

Here's what this means for you. The content moat you had from being good on camera, from having a real studio, from having better lighting and better audio than your competitor, that moat is gone in 90 days. Anyone with a $30 a month subscription and a decent script is about to match your production value. Anyone. That's reveal three. The content floor just hit zero, and it hits everyone at the same time.

What these three mean together. Now, look at these together. This is the part Sundar didn't say out loud on stage, and it's the part every founder watching needs to internalize before the end of this video. The old playbook went like this: You rank in Google search. You run ads to a landing page. A human to buy. Every single part of that playbook just got disrupted in the same week.

SEO is slower, less reliable, could be months before traffic comes back. The buyer is becoming an agent. Not in the future, this summer. And the content advantage you had from being good on camera is about to flatten across the entire creator economy.

So, the question is no longer, "How do I convince a person to buy from me?" The question is, "How does an agent decide I'm the obvious answer when it's comparing me to 14 other options at 3:00 a.m. while my customer is asleep?" And how do I stay recognizable to the humans who are still in the loop when everyone has the same production tools I do? That's the real question.

And most founders are going to freeze on it for the next 12 months. The ones who don't freeze, the ones who move in the next 90 days, have 12 to 18 months of clear runway before this becomes the default. The ones who wait until their conversion rates drop in 2027 are already late.

Here's what to do. Shift one, stop optimizing exclusively for Google rankings. Start building a brand specific enough that an AI agent picks you without comparing. Specificity is now an algorithmic asset, not a creative preference.

Shift two, get one undeniable positioning. Vague brands lose in the agentic era, and AI can't pattern match to a company that sounds like every other company in the category. If your positioning could be swapped with five competitors and nobody would notice, fix that this month.

Shift three, get one recognizable face showing up consistently. Yours or your trained avatar. Production value just commoditized. Consistency and recognizability are the new moat. The brand that shows up the same way everywhere, every week, wins the humans who are still watching.

Shift four, get your product data clean. Specs, comparisons, reviews, structured. An agent reading your site in four seconds needs to know exactly what you sell, who it's for, and why you. If a four-second scan would leave a smart human confused, an agent will move on faster than that.

That's it, four shifts. None of them require a six-figure investment. All of them require you to start now. This is the first-mover moment. The founders who see this in May 2026 and move are the ones with a defensible business in 2027. The ones who wait are already losing ground, and the dashboard hasn't caught up yet.

If you remember nothing else from this video, remember this. In 1 week, Google made SEO slower, gave agents the financial rails to buy without your customer opening a browser, and dropped the content production floor to zero. Three things. Same 7 days. The rules just changed.

The founders who get specific in the next 90 days become the obvious answer when the agent comes shopping. Everyone else becomes a comparison result on a screen the human never sees.

If you want my team to install the brand clarity, the avatar content engine, and the structured systems that make your business the obvious answer for both humans and agents, we're taking on a small group of founders this quarter for done-for-you AI integration. Link in the description. If you want to learn how to build it yourself, AI Labs is where I teach the frameworks I use with my consulting clients. Also linked below. See you down the next rabbit hole.
