The moment the man turned around, his breath stopped. The monster was right behind him. He already knew one thing. This creature hunted by sound. Running was useless, so he froze completely.

His eyes searched the ground, and he slowly grabbed a plastic toy nearby. His fingers were shaking, but without making a sound, he tossed it far away. The toy hit the ground, and instantly, the movement underground changed direction. The dirt started rising, and for one split second, the monster burst out of the ground before disappearing back underneath.

That was the only chance he needed. He signaled to the dog, and the two quietly moved deeper into the forest. But behind them, the ground was still following like the creature had no intention of giving up. The man headed toward the trees. He thought the roots might slow it down, but when he looked back, his blood ran cold. The monster was still gliding beneath the dirt at the exact same speed, like nothing could stop it.

Then suddenly, his foot stood and he crashed near the riverbank. Everything went black for a moment. When he woke up, the dog had already hidden inside a rotten hollow log. The man quickly crawled inside beside him. He pulled the dog close and tightly covered its mouth. Now there was only silence, but it was the most dangerous silence imaginable.

A second later, the ground right behind them slowly began to rise. Some monster had returned, and this time it was very close. The man stopped moving completely. His heartbeat was pounding so hard he became afraid the creature might hear it. A few seconds passed, feeling like forever. Then slowly, the ground became still again. The movement stopped. Maybe the monster had moved on.

The man finally exhaled, but he still didn't dare move. That's when the dog looked toward the river. Its red cloth was floating in the water. The dog couldn't resist. It suddenly broke free and jumped into the river. The splash echoed loudly. The color drained from the man's face because he knew the monster would come back, and this time it would come straight for them.

The ground started shaking again, even faster than before. The man instantly rushed toward his bag, his hands trembling. He pulled out a grenade ahead of him. The dirt was rising like the creature was about to explode out of the earth. He pulled the pin, paused for one second, then threw it with all his strength. The next moment, a massive explosion ripped through the ground. Dirt, blood, and flesh blasted into the air. The river turned red and the shock wave threw the man into the water.

For a few moments, there was only silence. Then slowly, everything became still again. But even in that silence, one fear remained alive.
