Hello friends, welcome to my channel. I am Geetha. In today's video, I am going to show you how to do saree pre-pleating and box folding like a professional. Whether you are pre-pleating your own saree or doing it for customers, I will show you how to take measurements using a tape, and how to neatly and professionally pre-pleat a saree for customers. Let's start the video.
First, open the saree completely like this. See the inner lining of the saree, that is, where the waist round is, from there we need to start measuring. I have provided a measurement chart in the previous video. If you watch my previous measurement video, I have explained it in detail there. Now, first, we need to measure our waist round here, meaning the circumference of the waist. I have measured 40 inches for this. I have measured 46 inches. Here, since I am pre-pleating the saree like this for pregnant customers, I have taken 10 inches extra because their waist round will be more. Therefore, I have taken 46 + 10 inches = 56 inches as the waist round. I have tucked in a pin there.
Now, see the shoulder pleats height, meaning the height of the pallu, how much height we need for the pallu, how long we want the pallu. If the customer is not available with us, we can take measurements using a tape like this. The standard measurement here is 42 to 44 inches, meaning it should come to half of the part below our knee. That's how the standard measurement is taken here. I have also tucked in a pin here.
Now, from this same pin, I am taking the next measurement. Next is the starting point of the center pleat. We had put a pin at the end point of the shoulder pleat, right? From there, we need to take the starting point of the center pleat. I have taken 56 inches as the starting point of the center pleat. As I said earlier, since my customer for this saree is pregnant, I have taken about 8 inches extra here. That is, after measuring the shoulder pleat and putting a pin, I have put another pin for the center pleat starting point at a total of 64 inches.
To give you clarity, I am showing it from the beginning. See, this is our waist round, which is 46 inches. I have put a pin here. This will also be our center pleat end point. See, there is another pin. Now I am bringing both pins together. The part between these two is where we will make the center pleats. This part, see, the chest pleats, side pleats, the side pleats on the left side, this part covers all of that. See, this is coming at the end. This is the part for making the pallu, meaning the shoulder pleats.
Let's see how to do it. First, you are seeing the saree. I have put it inside out. After putting it inside out, we will have to take the first pleat. When taking the first pleat, it should be a little more than the remaining pleats. It should be at least about four inches, that's enough, not more than that. Exactly a measurement, this is about four inches. See, I have ironed it a little. Now I am folding that pleat and attaching it there. You will understand why I am folding it. From there, slowly take out the pleats like this. If it is a silk saree or a pure silk saree, it will keep slipping. So, if you are not used to it, it might seem difficult. If you are doing it for the first time, take it out slowly like this.
See the last pleat here, the last edge point. It should be facing downwards. It should never come upwards. It should always be downwards. Okay. Now, I had folded it here, see. I am arranging the first pleat neatly there. Because if one comes inside and one comes outside, it won't be neat when we pin it. So, after arranging it like this, I am opening the first folded pleat like this. Now, I am also arranging the pleats neatly on my left side. When arranged neatly on both sides like this, no pleat will be missed or misplaced or crossed when pinning. It will come out neatly. See, after pinning here, I am holding it to the table with a holder clip. This means it will sit tightly. If you don't have a holder clip like this, you can place a heavy item on it to do it neatly.
Now, we had arranged all the pleats at the edge, right? Similarly, we need to arrange them up to the shoulder height we measured. So, slowly arrange the pleats with both hands like this. See, like this. After arranging all of this, the pleats will be inside. Both ends will be correct, but because it keeps slipping, when we iron it, it will go back. When draped, it won't look neat. So, bring all of them together at the edge neatly like this, and tuck in a pin there. Similarly, up to the shoulder height we measured, meaning up to 42 inches, we measured and put a pin there. See, you can see that pin there. Up to there, arrange the pleats neatly like this. Nowhere should it be slightly bigger or smaller, or crossed. Nowhere should any pleat be missed. Arrange it neatly like this, up to where we measured the shoulder pleat height.

See, the pleats are sitting neatly. Nothing is too much or too little. It sits neatly here. If we iron the back neatly like this, the pallu won't look thick. It will look very flat. Otherwise, it will look bulky and thick. When worn, it won't look neat.
Now, our shoulder is ready. Now we need to get the chest pleats ready. Where we put the shoulder pin, like this, place it on the table and hold it with a cloth holder. First, arrange the pleats randomly like this. All the pleats should come neatly here. Arrange the pleats randomly like this first. If the saree is very thick or bulky, it will be difficult to sit. Now is the time to measure our chest pleat. Here, for the chest pleat, I have taken both the chest height and chest width to be about 10 inches. To measure the chest width, we need to measure from the first pleat that is folded. From there, it should come 10 inches to our left. And from where we put the shoulder pin, 10 inches height for the chest pleat height. I have taken both pleat height and width to be about 10 inches.
Now, see, arrange the pleats neatly like this. The distance from one pleat to another should be the same. See, here where I put the pin, the pleats are layered on top of each other. It shouldn't be like that. All should be one after another, overlapping each other. Arrange it like that. After arranging, release steam like this and iron it. If you iron it once here, it will be very difficult to arrange it again. So, arrange all of this beforehand and then iron it slowly like this. Now the chest pleats are ready. After the chest pleats, we need to arrange the pleats on the part where our right hand comes. First, spread the saree randomly like this. Then, it should come neatly straight to where we ironed it. See, if you make it straight like this, the pleats will sit neatly. It won't feel too difficult to do. So, arrange the pleats like this. Here, arranging the pleats seems a bit difficult compared to the first pleat, because the saree will spread out, right? Therefore, iron it neatly like this by releasing steam.
See, like this. Now let's make the center pleats. From the starting point of the center pleat, as I told you, I am taking out pleats like this. About four inches, four or five inches. Take out pleats here. Since my customer is pregnant, I have already used a lot of saree for the waist round. So, I am not taking much width, only about four inches. From the starting point of the center pleat to the end point, where there are two pins, I have made pleats like this. You can see two pins there. First, place them on the table like this and arrange them neatly. Some people ask for them to be very wide, but if they are too wide, they don't look good when draped. The pleats on top should not be too wide. Just enough so that one pleat is visible from another. Some people do this: they keep the pleats one above the other and tuck them with a pin. You should not do that. They should not be too wide, nor should they be layered like that. There should be just enough gap so that one pleat is visible from another.
See, at the back, the pleats are crossed like this. Straighten them like this. If one is slightly uneven, arrange it at the bottom. Arrange all of these neatly and tuck in a pin in a straight line. Do not tuck it sideways. Tuck it in a straight line. I am holding it to the table again. Now let's arrange this in the middle. In the middle too, we don't need much width, because when we wear the saree, it should spread at the bottom. If it spreads at the top itself, it won't look neat. So, here too, I am arranging it with a little width like this. The first pleat here tends to slip back a bit. When arranging it, leave a little more and tuck the pin inside, also tucking the pin in a straight line. Now, the bottom part should not be crumpled. Because when ironed, it won't look neat. First, arrange it randomly like this.
See, like this. How wide should we arrange it here? If you have a little finger, that much width is enough. See, at this width, with the same gap, arrange it. See, like this. The pleats here should not have one height higher or lower. Because, as I have already shown, when the pleats are arranged straight at the top, it will come out correctly here too. Tuck in a pin there. Now, let's iron this neatly again. When ironing, do not iron on the opposite side. Iron it straight. If you iron on the opposite side, it will be difficult to arrange the pleats again. So, iron it like this. I have tagged the links of all the products I have used below the video. Check them out.
Now, let's take the waist round part, see, and fold it backwards like this. Meaning, so that the pleats come on top. The inner pleat was facing me, right? The inner pleat was facing me. Just turn it towards the camera. I am just flipping the one facing me towards you. Okay? After doing this, iron the pleats here too. When ironed like this, some people look very thick when wearing the saree. It won't look like that. Now, take the same saree's waist round part, which was folded backwards, and bring it towards us again. Meaning, what we have done is, we have turned the pleats. Okay? After folding that part backwards, iron it a little here. If you have already ironed the entire saree beforehand, then no need.
Now, see, let's fold the same waist round part for the first time. Like this, on my right side, I am doing the first fold. These chest pleats should be arranged inside this first fold. They will be arranged inside it. See. Now, the second fold and the third fold are done like this. Some people do four folds. It's not necessary. Three folds are enough here. See, the corners on both sides, see, the chest pleats are arranged there. It should come like that. Lift the saree back a little like this. So that the chest pleats sit correctly on top of that box. Arrange the pleats neatly on both edges. This part that remains, see, fold it inside like this. If it is coming out of the box, fold it inside a little beforehand and then put it inside the box like this.
Now, see, check it neatly. I am doing the first fold. Meaning, on my right side, I am doing the first fold. The chest pleats should be arranged inside that first fold. It will be arranged inside it. See. Now, the second fold and the third fold are done like this. Some people do four folds. It's not necessary. Three folds are enough here. See, the corners on both sides, see, the chest pleats are arranged there. It should come like that. Lift the saree back a little like this. So that the chest pleats sit correctly on top of that box. Arrange the pleats neatly on both edges. The creation of this box means that the two chest pleats should be spread evenly to the two edges of the box. The one in the middle should sit separately on one side. It shouldn't be like that. It should be spread correctly like this.
Take the pallu part of the saree, see, and arrange it inside the box like this. You can also make rounds. One, two, three rounds will make it sit. But in my opinion, it doesn't look very finished. So, fold it like this and tuck it inside the box. When tucked inside the box like this, the finishing will be very good. It will also look amazing. See, like this. Our box saree pleating and box folding is already done. Now, since it is a customer's saree, I am packing it like this.
