Hi, it's Robin Sharma, author of The 5 AM Club and The Everyday Hero Manifesto. I want to talk about an addiction to distraction.

As you know, one of my favorite brain tattoos is: "An addiction to distraction is the death of your creative production." You live in a world of overstimulation, trivial pursuit, and uh, endless interruption. I believe you can play with your phone, or you can change the world. You don't get to do both.

And if you believe in the philosophy, we only have one life, then I think it's incredibly wise for you and I to use our hours incredibly well. I think, um, we make the world a brighter place when we do what lights us up. And you can't do what lights you up if you are constantly being interrupted and being on social and looking at videos of people doing the latest dance moves.

I want to offer you some quick ideas that will help you dial in your focus so you get giant things done. The first thing is what I call, it's one of my methodologies, it's the two-phone solution. Get one phone that has your apps and the weather and whatever it is, the things that you need. And also a second phone that's a very Spartan phone that you basically just have a f- a phone on it. And you use that for your mornings. And then after noon, or at noon, you take your other phone and you check email and notifications and the things that you need to look at in order to stay in touch with the world. But the real idea is to have two phones. One is a Spartan phone. That's the one that's with you most of the time. So you're, you simply have force-optimized not being connected so you can get real work versus fake work done.

Second idea that's incredibly important is a daily schedule. As simple as it sounds, but what gets scheduled gets done. Vague plans lead to vague results. Every Sunday morning, give yourself one hour. Plan a beautiful week ahead and create perfect days on that schedule. And I'm talking about a piece of paper and a pencil or a pen so that it's tactile. And you go through the process of planning your week. And that alone is a pre-commitment strategy which causes you to have more focus and more willpower to get the work done.

Third and final idea to have more focus. You know what I'm going to say is the importance of a world-class morning routine. The way you start your day dramatically sets up the way your day unfolds. Another way to look at it is the way you start that first hour of the day. What I call in The 5 AM Club book, your Victory Hour. That sets the tone for your day. Too many people wake up and it's almost like they drink a cup of coffee and they start their day like a five-alarm fire. I want you to be a contrarian. I want you to get up with the dawn. There's magic in the air at that time.

And then what I want you to do is sweat first thing in the morning. It's a complete game-changer. You release a pharmacy of mastering your brain. You release dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine. You reduce cortisol. After your workout, you feel fundamentally different. You're energized. You're cognitively higher. You're feeling great. You're inspired. After you've done that exercise, what I want you to do is spend a little bit of time reflecting. It could be prayer, meditation. What I love to do is also writing in a journal. That gives you intentionality. You start creating the day on your terms versus doing what so many people do, chasing the day.

And the final thing I want you to do in your morning routine is I want you to learn. Because the leader who learns the most wins. And it is so powerful to read a book. As simple as it sounds, I know if no better investment or an investment that yields a better ROI than a book. $15 or $20 and you could, if it's the right book, learn incredible information that upgrades your health, your happiness, your spirituality, your financial life, your personal life, your lifestyle. So make sure you take the time to learn before you go out into the world.

The main idea of this quick video is to protect your days, protect your focus so you serve your genius. Happiness comes not by loafing around, not by doing easy things. If you really want to be sustainably happy, realize your promise and live your potential and make the world a better place, and you will have a self-esteem and a joyfulness that knows no bounds.
