Oracle CEO Larry Ellison just made some jaw-dropping comments on AI, Elon Musk, and robotics. This one was fascinating.
It's very apparent after a few years of it. It's the largest, fastest growing business in human history. Bigger than the railroads, bigger than the industrial revolution. I mean, it is a whole new new world that is dawning. There's there's the building of the models and then once those models are built it's the actual using those models to solve very important problems early diagnosis of cancer for example. But there but there'll be a lot of surgery that is more precise and more accurate than human beings can do. Robots will be much better surgeons than human beings can be for all sorts of interesting reasons.
Anyway, the big opportunity in AI training is upon us and Oracle is a major participant in in building data centers to do AI training. But the much much larger opportunity, the one that will truly change the world isn't the creation of the models themselves, the training of the models. What will change the world is when we start using these remarkable electronic brains. And that's what they are. these remarkable electronic brains to solve humanity's most difficult and enduring problems.
As I said earlier, these AI models are trained on publicly available data. All the data on the internet. So if you look at chat GPT or Anthropic, Grock, Llama, what what have you, they're all they're all trained on all of the data on the internet. In other words, publicly available data. But for these models to reach their peak value, you need to not train them not just on publicly available data, but you need to make private privatelyowned data available to those models as well. And that's where Oracle plays a particularly important role because most of the world's high value data is already in an Oracle database. we had to change, we did change that database. So the Oracle database can take the data that's already in the Oracle database and make it available to AI models for reasoning. So the AI model can reason on on not just public data, but on private data.
AI is an incredible tool. People think, some people think it's going to replace all human beings and all of our human endeavors. I don't think that's true. It will help us solve problems we couldn't solve on our own. However, it'll make us much better scientists and engineers and teachers and chefs and brick layers and surgeons and what what have you. We've never built a tool anything like this. I mean, I remember when when when this wasn't called AI world, when you remember when it was called cloud world a long long time ago, I had I had a presentation about AI. Even though it was cloud called cloud world, I was still allowed to do a presentation on AI. And I said, "Is AI the most important technology in human history?" And dot dot dot, we're gonna find out soon.
Well, it's pretty clear. The smartest people I know are working. We're going to get a better one next time. The smartest people I know are investing fortunes. to be specific, they're investing their fortunes in building and training these AI models. That's how important they are. That's how extraordinary they are. And by the way, you know, Elon, Mark, Sam in alphabetical order, all really smart guys, extraordinary people. You know, it's not that big a deal. Maybe it's just a bubble. Well, the internet really, I mean, the internet was a big deal. I mean most pe you know the if you look at the fortunes created out of the internet the I mean certainly worked out for Google search searches seemed to pay paid off and Elon on on that list did start PayPal and that paid off nightly nicely but I know that I I Elon he said he definitely didn't put a dime into pets.com and and the thing is when people talk about bubbles what you know what is a bubble and people get exuberant I mean the internet was an incredible new technology remains the foundation of computing and we couldn't have AI without the internet. So it's incredibly important technology but the people started confusing internet companies like a PayPal or or even worse internet search worse meaning better with pets.com. I mean the fact that I if I can sell pet food in an e-commerce site that suddenly means I'm an internet company. Not really. So yes, there'll be people spending money on AI because almost every tech company these days call themselves an AI company, but they're not. A lot of them are not. But AI in terms of its value, this is the highest value technology we have ever seen by far.
Next slide, please. AI, you know, it's interesting because it's called artificial intelligence, but as opposed to artificial perception, but it does perceive. It it hears, it smells. It think about smelling. I mean, the idea that you can pick up chemicals that are just drifting around in the atmosphere and figure out what those chemicals are. Dogs can smell cancer in patients. We should be able to do do that with AI. We should be able to, in fact, there's a project I know of called the dog's nose that I'm actually a part of, and we're building sensors. We're building FL sensors that can smell cancer or other illnesses. But the AI perceives, it's got the part of the brain that hears and sees. In addition to reasoning, I mean, it can read street signs. It can read a page on a book. They take a look at you. to recognize you. You can identify the song that's playing. You can talk to AI and ask it a question or type it out. AI can reason logically, very quickly, using language the same way we do and mathematics.
I remember I was over at Tesla looking at the Optimus robots and I was curious just how the robots were going to learn and then thought about it for a minute and said, "Well, how would a robot learn how to clean your house or scramble eggs or play the guitar. It's connected to the internet. It can learn to sc play piano just like we would watching an internet video except it would do it a little faster because it can play the internet video at very very high speed and be and learn to pay play that piece by Shopan in about 5 seconds which I know my kids can't learn learn to play piano that that fast because I listen to them practice every day and 5 seconds is out of the question.
AI robots. AI robots will be much better surgeons than the best doctors. There's this there's this very famous surgery started by Dr. Mo who actually would take cancer lesions off patients faces and he was so famous for it because he did the least damage. He took the least amount of tissue off off your skin. So cosmetically he had fantastic results. And what he did, he would take a couple of layers of skin off and then take that skin over to a microscope and look at it and see is he taking any healthy cells on you? I mean, how deep does the cancer go? So, he's back and forth. Cut a little bit of tissue, look at it on microscope, cut a little bit more tissue, look at Well, AI robots aren't just don't play fair. Their vision, the AI, the vision on the robot, it is microscopic. They don't need a microscope to see where the cancer ends and the healthy tissue begins. and their coordination. They're better surgeons than we are. Not because they're smarter than we are, but because they have better hand eye coordination. Their eyes are way better than ours, and the precision of their hands is way better than ours. So, they can cut between a layer of healthy cells and a layer of cancerous cells. It's truly stunning to watch and it will make us all and it'll be very reassuring when we we can go to a doctor who's using a robot to do the surgery. The surgery will be perfect.
The smartest, richest people on the planet are betting everything they have on one technology. They're not just building chat bots or making search engines better. They're building electronic brains that can see, hear, smell, and move throughout the physical world. This is about to change everything from how we treat cancer to how we get to work. Here's what's actually happening. The world's smartest billionaires are literally investing their entire fortunes into AI. And that tells you a lot about what you need to know. Larry lists Elon, Mark, and Sam and calls them extraordinary people who are pouring their personal fortunes into building and training AI models. But the core technology is the most valuable things humans have ever created. Think about what that means. More valuable than electricity. more valuable than the internet, more valuable than oil. That's the claim Larry's making. And the smartest people alive are betting their entire net worth on it. These guys didn't get rich by following trends. They got rich by seeing the future before everyone else. And right now, they're all seeing the same thing. When you have people who already have more money than they could ever spend, choosing to risk it all on one technology, that's a certain level of conviction. They know something the rest of the market doesn't understand yet. And one of those billionaires betting everything is building something that perfectly shows why this technology is different. Elon Musk's robots are apparently learning skills in 5 seconds that takes humans years to master. And that's the real power of AI.
Larry describes visiting Tesla to see the Optimus robot and asking how they would learn to clean houses, scramble eggs, or play guitar. The answer blew Larry's mind. They connect to the internet and watch videos like humans do, except they can play those videos at extremely high speed. A robot can learn to play a complex piano piece by watching an internet video at high speed while his kids practice every day and still can't play it. This isn't about robots being a little better than humans. This is about completely destroying the concept of learning curves. Right now, if you want to become a skillful pianist, you need years of practice, thousands of hours. Same with surgery or cooking. Same with almost anything physical. That's been true for all of human history. But these robots throw that entire model out the window. They can watch a master perform a skill and replicate it almost instantly because they can process information at speeds humans can't even comprehend. Think about what happens when you remove the time cost of learning. Every skill becomes instantly accessible. Every craft that took a lifetime to master can be replicated in seconds. This isn't just about efficiency. This is about unlocking capabilities that were physically impossible before. A human surgeon can only perform so many surgeries in their lifetime. They can only learn so many techniques. A robot can learn every surgical technique ever performed by every surgeon in history in a matter of hours. The limiting factor for human progress has always been time. Time to learn, time to practice, time to get good at something. AI robots remove that limiting factor completely. And this is already happening. This isn't science fiction. Larry literally visited the facility and watched it work. Elon is building this right now.
But the speed of learning is just the beginning. When you give AI a physical body, the applications get absolutely wild. Physical AI that can move through the real world is the holy grail. And humanoid robots plus autonomous cars are just the start. We heard Larry talking about visiting Tesla's Optimus robot and watching them learn. how robots connecting to the internet can learn to clean houses, scramble eggs, and play guitar by watching video. Larry also describes how AI can perceive the world. Everyone's currently focused on chat bots and text generations because that's easy to understand. But the real impact to the world comes when AI gets a body and can actually do things in the physical world. humanoid robots that can walk into your house and do chores, that can work in factories and warehouses alongside humans, that can perform delicate tasks requiring precision that humans simply cannot match. This is the future of robotics. Then you have autonomous cars, which are basically robots on wheels. They're not just replacing drivers, they're replacing the entire transportation infrastructure as we know it. Every taxi, every delivery truck, every commute becomes cheaper and safer once you remove the human from the equation. The combination is what makes this so powerful. The same AI that learns to drive a car can learn to operate a humanoid robot. The same sensors that can help a car navigate can help a robot navigate your kitchen. All these physical AI applications feed into each other. This is why Larry calls it the biggest business opportunity in human history.
