Nine spirits Christians must avoid at all costs. Do not skip this warning.
Peter walked with Jesus for 3 years. He heard every warning, witnessed every miracle, and sat at the same table the night everything changed. And still Luke 22:31 records Jesus telling him directly that Satan had demanded permission to sift him like wheat. Not a stranger, not a known rebel, one of the 12. The enemy does not limit his targets to the people who have already wandered far from God. He comes for the ones who are close. He comes for the ones who are watching. He comes for the ones who believe because of how long they have been faithful that they are no longer the kind of person these warnings apply to.
Nine spirits are operating in the world right now. Scripture names them, describes them, and shows you exactly how they work. [music] Not so you will live in fear, but so you will never be caught off guard by something God already warned you about. That knowledge begins the moment you decide to receive it. Type God guards my heart in the comments right now. [music] Because naming what God is doing in you is the first act of resistance against every spirit that wants to undo it. Say it again. And the verse that defeats it is the one most believers have never learned to stand on. Let us begin with the spirit that has brought down men of great faith. [music] Not through what they did, but through what they allowed their eyes to linger on.
Spirit one, [music] the spirit of fornication targets the eye before it reaches the body. Hosea 5 verse 4 does not describe a people who fell into sin without warning. It describes a people who were trapped inside it and could not find the exit. The spirit of whoredoms, God called it. Not [music] a weakness, not a failure of willpower, a spirit, something with a name, a mission, and a method that goes far deeper than most believers ever realize until they are already inside its grip. You may already know this feeling. You have prayed against it. You have fasted. You have wept before God and meant every word. And then the week passed and something shifted and the battle was back at your door again. That is not evidence that your faith is too small. That is evidence that you have been fighting in the wrong place.
Jesus named the true battlefield in Matthew 5:27 and 28. He said that anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart, not in his hands, not in his actions, in his heart. The act is not where the sin begins. The eye is where it begins. The imagination is where it takes root. And a root that goes untreated will always push back through the surface. No matter how many times you cut what is visible, Job understood this in a way that most men never reach. Job 31 verse 1 records a decision he made before the temptation ever arrived. He said he had made a covenant with his eyes. A covenant, a formal agreement with himself, before God about where his gaze would and would not go. He did not trust the moment to sort itself out. He settled the question in advance. That is the strategy scripture offers. Not willpower applied after the imagination has already been fed. A covenant made before the eye is given permission to wander. Paul's command in 1 Corinthians 6:18 is not complicated. Flee, not manage, not negotiate. Flee because the spirit of fornication does not lose ground when you stand still and reason with it. It loses ground the moment you stop giving it a place to begin. The next spirit on this list does not work through desire. It works through something far more subtle. And most believers have never once suspected it was operating inside them at all.
Spirit [music] two. The lying spirit sounds reasonable until you see who sent it. Most people assume the lying spirit is easy to recognize. They picture someone looking them in the eye and saying something they know is false. That is not how this spirit works. That is not how it has ever worked. First Kings 22:22 pulls back the curtain on something most believers never stop to examine. In that passage, God allows a lying spirit to go forth and operate. In the mouths of 400 prophets, men who stood in religious authority, men who sounded confident, men who delivered their message without hesitation or shame. Not one of them announced what they were carrying. They simply spoke. And what they spoke sounded to every human ear in that room. Entirely convincing. That is the design. The lying spirit does not arrive wearing a warning label.
Jesus identified the source of this spirit with a precision that should stop every believer cold. In John 8:44, he said that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. Not an occasional liar. Not a liar when it serves his purposes. The father of it. Lying is not something Satan does. It is something Satan is. And a spirit sent from that source carries the same nature as the one who sent it. The first lie in documented history did not sound like a lie. Genesis 3:4 records exactly what Satan said to Eve in the garden. You will not certainly die. Five words: calm, reasonable, delivered without theatrics or obvious menace. And an entire generation paid the price for what those five words set in motion. Eve did not feel deceived in the moment. She felt informed. That feeling was the deception. Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven things God calls an abomination and a lying tongue appears in that list alongside hands that shed innocent blood. God did not place those two things in the same sentence by accident. Lying and destruction are not separate sins that happen to sometimes overlap. They belong together because one always leads to the other. Satan lied to Eve. Eve died. Satan lied to Judas. Judas was destroyed. The pattern has never changed. Here is what this means for you. The lies you are most vulnerable to are not the obvious ones. They are the ones that arrive wearing the voice of reason, the face of experience, and the posture of someone who only wants to help you see clearly. Test every voice against the word. Not because you are suspicious by nature, because the father of lies has never once announced himself before speaking.
What comes next works differently, not through words, but through a feeling so familiar you stopped questioning it years ago.
Spirit three, [music] the spirit of fear arrives as caution and stays as a prison. Picture the strongest man of God you know. The one who has stood in front of impossible situations and did not flinch. The one whose faith has outlasted things that would have broken most people. Now picture that same man sitting alone under a tree asking God to take his life. That is not a hypothetical. That is Elijah. And what brought him there was not defeat. It was one threatening message delivered by one woman after the greatest victory of his entire ministry. That is how the spirit of fear operates. It does not wait for your weakest moment. It waits for the moment right after your strongest one. Second Timothy 1:7 draws a line that every believer needs to understand. God has not given us a spirit of fear. That word given is doing everything in that sentence. If fear did not come from God, it came from somewhere else. It has a source. It has a sender. And what has a sender can be identified, resisted, and refused. [music]
Elijah had just called fire down from heaven on Mount Carmel. He had stood alone against 450 prophets of Baal and watched God answer with power that left no room for argument. And then Jezebel sent one message. First Kings chapter 19 verses 3 and 4 records what happened next. He ran. He sat down under a juniper tree and said it was enough. He asked God to let him die. The man who had not trembled before 450 enemies trembled before one voice, not because he was weak, because the spirit of fear found the one gap his victory had left open, exhaustion, and it walked straight through. God's response in First Kings 19:5 was not a rebuke. An angel touched him and said, "Arise and eat." Before theology, before correction, before instruction, presence and provision. Because God understood what the spirit of fear had done to his body before it finished what it was trying to do to his soul. Psalm 34:4 [music] is the testimony of a man who came through the other side. David said he sought the Lord and God heard him and delivered him from all his fears. Not some, all. The spirit of fear does not negotiate a partial retreat. When God moves against it, it goes. You are not given this spirit. That means you do not have to keep it. The next spirit is harder to see because it does not feel like an enemy at all. It feels like belonging.
Spirit four. The spirit of the world calls bondage by the name of freedom. Take an honest look at what is consuming the people around you. [music] The man who cannot stop acquiring things he cannot afford. The woman who measures her worth by what she wears and where she is seen. The family that has everything the world says should bring satisfaction and lives in quiet misery behind it. None of them chose their bondage deliberately. They simply stopped asking whether what was pulling them had a name. [music]
1 John 2:15-17 names it directly. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These three are not random temptations scattered across daily experience. They are a system, an organized spiritual architecture designed to redirect everything God placed in you toward things that cannot hold the weight of what you were actually made for. And the spirit of the world is what runs that system. [music] This is not abstract theology. It is visible everywhere once you know what you are looking at. Judas is the most devastating portrait of this spirit in all of scripture. Luke 22:3 does not say Judas was corrupted gradually or that his love of money finally overcame him after years of resistance. It says Satan entered him. A spirit took occupancy. And the man who had walked with Jesus for three years, who had heard every sermon, witnessed every miracle, and been trusted with the ministry's finances, walked out of that upper room to betray the son of God for 30 pieces of silver. Not because he stopped believing, because he had never fully surrendered the part of him the spirit of the world had already claimed. James 4:4 delivers the verdict without softening it. Friendship with the world is enmity with God. That word friendship describes something chosen, something cultivated, something maintained by daily decisions about where your attention, your appetite, and your affection are allowed to rest. The spirit of the world does not demand your soul in a single transaction. It asks for small agreements, one comfort, one compromise, one possession that slowly becomes more important than the presence of God. Ephesians 6:12 reminds you that what you are dealing with is not a cultural problem or a discipline problem. It is a spiritual one. The rulers of darkness in this world do not advertise their presence. They simply make the cage comfortable enough that most people never look for the door. Judas had 3 years with the truth and still lost the battle. The spirit of the world had been quietly winning inside him all along. That should not produce despair. It should produce vigilance.
The next spirit does not come through appetite or ambition. It comes through a door you would never think to guard. The door of your own reasoning.
Spirit five, [music] the spirit of disobedience works the mind before it moves the body. Everyone assumes disobedience begins with a decision, a moment of choice. A clear fork in the road where a person looks at what God said and deliberately walks the other way. That assumption is precisely what makes this spirit so effective. By the time the visible decision arrives, the work has already been done somewhere the eye cannot see. Ephesians 2:1 and 2 does not describe disobedience as a behavioral problem waiting for a stronger commitment to fix it. It describes a spirit. The spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. That word works means actively operating, continuously moving, producing effects from the inside out. This spirit does not wait for you to choose rebellion. It labors in the mind until rebellion begins to feel like the reasonable option.
Saul is the clearest portrait of this progression in all of scripture. When Samuel confronted him after the battle with the Amalekites, [music] Saul's first response was confidence. 1st Samuel 15:20 records him saying he had obeyed the voice of the Lord. He believed it. He was not performing innocence. He had genuinely reasoned his way into believing that partial obedience was complete obedience. The spirit of disobedience had worked so thoroughly through his reasoning that by the time the rebellion was visible to Samuel, it was invisible to Saul. 1st Samuel 15:23 delivers the verdict [music] that should stop every believer in their tracks. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. God did not use that comparison casually. He used it to show that the spirit behind disobedience and the spirit behind occult practice are drawing from the same source. Disobedience is not a character flaw that needs management. It is a spiritual condition that needs confrontation. Romans 8:7 names the root with precision. The carnal mind is enmity against God. For it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. A mind operating under this spirit does not experience itself as hostile to God. It experiences itself as thinking clearly. [music] That is what makes it dangerous. Saul thought he was thinking clearly all the way to the moment his kingdom was taken from him. The spirit of disobedience convinces you that you are reasoning your way to wisdom. What it is actually doing is reasoning you away from God one small justification at a time.
If you have made it this far, you are not the average believer scrolling past the hard questions. You are someone who has already chosen truth over comfort more than once in your walk with God. Someone who knows from experience that the easy path and the right path are rarely the same road. That kind of discernment is not something you are born with. It is forged. And the fact that you are still here tells me it has been forged in you through things that cost you something real. Do not stop now. What the final sections of this video reveal about the spirit that makes all nine of these dangers worse is the piece that will bring everything you have heard today into focus.
The next spirit operates through something real that happened to you. And it uses the legitimacy of your pain to keep you from ever moving past it.
Spirit six. The spirit of offense turns your wound into a weapon against you. Something was done to you. That is where this section has to begin because the spirit of offense does not build its work on nothing. It builds on something real. A betrayal that genuinely happened. A wound inflicted by someone who should have known better. A wrong that was never acknowledged, never repaired, and never answered for. The pain was legitimate. What the spirit does with that pain is not. Hebrews 12:15 does not say bitterness is unpleasant. It says it is a root, a root that grows downward before anything appears above the surface. A root that defiles not just the person carrying it but many around them. [music]
The spirit of offense works exactly like that root quietly below the visible line spreading through the soil of a life while the person above ground wonders why nothing is growing the way it should. Absalom is scripture's most detailed portrait of what this spirit produces when it is allowed to run its full course. 2 Samuel 13:22 records that after his sister Tamar was violated by Amnon, Absalom said nothing to him, neither good nor bad. He went silent. But Hebrews makes clear what silence in that condition actually means. The root was already going down. For two full years, Absalom carried what had been done to his sister without bringing it before God or before his father. And then 2 Samuel 15:6 records the outcome of those two years. He stole the hearts of the men of Israel. The wound had become a campaign. The offense had become a throne. He never healed. He organized. Matthew 6:14 and 15 [music] does not present forgiveness as an emotional achievement you work toward when you feel ready. Jesus presents it as a condition. If you forgive others, your Father will forgive you. If you do not, he will not. That is not cruelty. That is a boundary God drew to protect you from the very thing Absalom could not escape. A wound that outlived every relationship it touched and finally consumed the man himself. The spirit of offense does not ask you to become evil. It only asks you to hold on a little longer.
What follows does not come through pain at all. It comes wearing the face of spiritual maturity. And that is exactly what makes it the most respectable trap on this entire list.
Spirit 7. The spirit of pride convinces you the fall has not begun. When was the last time you considered that the season you are most grateful for might be the season you are most vulnerable in? Not the hard seasons, not the years of loss and waiting and unanswered prayer. The good ones. The ones where things finally came together. Where your faith felt strong. Where the evidence of God's blessing was visible enough that you stopped leaning as hard as you once did. That is exactly where the spirit of pride does its most effective work. Proverbs 16:18 does not say pride precedes dramatic public failure. It says pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. The destruction is not always visible. Sometimes it is the slow erosion of a man's dependence on God, replaced so gradually by confidence in what God has built, that the replacement goes unnoticed until the building comes down.
Nebuchadnezzar is the portrait scripture returns to most deliberately when it wants to show what this spirit produces at full strength. Daniel 4:30 records the moment it completed its work. He stood over Babylon and said, "Is not this great Babylon that I have built by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" Not a word about God, not a gesture toward the one who had given him every stone of what he was surveying. The words had barely left his mouth before Daniel 4:33 records the judgment arriving. He was driven from among men. Ate grass like an ox and lived in that condition until 7 years had passed. 7 years. That is what the spirit of pride cost the most powerful man on earth. And it cost him everything at the precise moment he felt most secure. Daniel 4:37 records what Nebuchadnezzar said when he finally came back to himself. Those who walk in pride, God is able to humble. He did not write that as a warning to others. He wrote it as a man who had learned it from the inside. The spirit of pride does not feel like an enemy. It feels like confidence. That is the only disguise it has ever needed.
The next spirit is quieter than all of these. And it is the one most likely to be operating in a life that looks from every outward angle completely devoted to God.
Spirit 8. The spirit of slumber keeps you sleeping while the hour grows late. There is a kind of spiritual sleep that does not feel like sleep at all. It feels like steadiness, like a faith that has found its rhythm, settled into its routines, and arrived at a place of quiet consistency that most people would look at from the outside and call maturity. That is exactly the condition the spirit of slumber is designed to produce, not rebellion, not backsliding, just enough comfort to make urgency feel unnecessary. Romans 13:11 lands with a weight that most comfortable believers never fully receive. Paul writes that it is already the hour for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. That word now is doing everything. Not someday. Not when the signs become unmistakable. Now the hour is already here. And a spirit whose entire purpose is to make that hour feel distant is working against the very thing Paul is trying to press into your hands.
The five foolish virgins in Matthew chapter 25 were not unbelievers. They were not rebels or hypocrites. They were at the right place holding the right lamps waiting for the right bridegroom. Matthew 25 [music] verse 5 records simply that they all slumbered and slept. Not because they stopped caring, because the wait was longer than they had budgeted for. And the spirit of slumber moved into the gap that delay always creates. In Matthew 25:10 records what happened when the bridegroom finally arrived. Those who were ready went in and the door was shut. Not eventually, immediately. The door was shut. There was no second chance offered to the ones who had been sleeping. That is not a detail included for drama. It is the point. Revelation 3:2 carries the same urgency across the centuries into this specific moment. Wake up and strengthen what remains and is about to die. God did not send that word to people who had abandoned the faith. He sent it to a church that was still standing, still functioning, still present, and still asleep to how little time remained. The spirit of slumber does not steal your faith. It simply makes the return of Christ feel like something that can wait until tomorrow.
Tomorrow is exactly what the final spirit on this list is counting on.
Spirit nine. The spirit of Antichrist is already here and knows your name. The word Antichrist carries a weight that most believers immediately project onto the future. A figure, a moment, something that has not arrived yet and will announce itself unmistakably when it does. That assumption is precisely what the spirit of Antichrist is counting on. Because while the attention is directed toward a future event, the spirit itself is already operating inside religious language, inside familiar settings, inside conversations that sound entirely biblical until you hold them against the full weight of scripture. 1 John 4:1 does not say test the spirits because dangerous ones are rare. It says, "Test every spirit, everyone." The command assumes that the spirits requiring testing are already present, already speaking, already presenting themselves in ways that require careful discernment to identify. A warning that only applies to obvious deception is not much of a warning. This one applies to everything. 1 John 4:2 and 3 identifies the specific test. Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. Every spirit that does not confess this is not from God. And this John writes is the spirit of Antichrist. Not a distant theological category, a present spiritual reality. 2 John 1:7 confirms it without softening. Many deceivers have gone out into the world, not will go, have gone. They are already among you, already speaking, already teaching things that sound close enough to truth that only a discerning ear trained by scripture will catch the distance between what is being said and what God actually said.
This is why the eight spirits examined before this one matter. A soul weakened by fornication, shaped by lies, driven by fear, captured by the world, hardened in disobedience, bound by offense, inflated by pride, or dulled by slumber. Is a soul that has lost the sharpness needed to catch what the spirit of Antichrist is doing. It does not need to overpower you. It only needs you distracted enough to stop testing what you hear.
But here is where this video must end. Not with a warning, but with a weapon. First John 4:4 is not a consolation offered to people who are losing. It is a declaration made to people who have already won. Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. Not slightly greater, not greater under certain conditions. Greater. The one who took up residence inside you. When you surrendered your life to Christ is not intimidated by any spirit examined in this video. Not one of them operates outside his authority. Not one of them has a claim on a life that has been placed under his covering. You do not fight these nine spirits from a position of weakness hoping for mercy. You stand against them from a position of victory already secured. There is a moment coming that no spirit can follow you into. A moment when every mask is removed, every hidden thing is visible. [music] And the only question that remains is what you did with what God showed you while you still had time to act on it.
Nine spirits were named in this video. Nine methods the enemy has been using possibly for years. [music] Inside a life you have been trying to surrender to God. You now have what most believers were never given. The names, the patterns, and the scripture that exposes every one of them. Romans 8:37 does not describe a future victory waiting to be earned. It declares a present reality already secured. In all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Not after the battle, in the middle of it.
