Chapter 11: The Monkeys

In the 1950s and 60s, my grandparents used to go to Mexico every winter and stay until it was warm enough for sane people to return home to Iowa. They would bring back all kinds of things for us as souvenirs—like silver spoons for my spoon collection and other sundry things for we four girls, cousins included. They brought back for themselves tapestries and also a very small stone monkey, about a thumb's height, that they kept on their kitchen window sill. It was hand-carved; it was one of the “no evil” monkeys; it was, in fact, “See No Evil.”

I used to admire this monkey all the time when I went to see them in their small town of Slater, Iowa. I used to turn it over in my hand, and I liked the way the stone felt—smooth and cool. I always wanted to have it as my own. I would never have asked for it, but it was a secret wish.

I went to Moore Elementary School in Des Moines, and on certain days we were allowed to go out to the mobile book library. It was a small bus that traveled around to all the schools and arrived at our school on certain days so we could check out books and later return them when the bus came back the next time. I had my own little library card, and I was so—it was so—pretty puffed up about it.

I had been in the book bus one day when I had a feeling I had to walk to the far end of the ball diamond. No one else was out there—no students, no teachers. I probably should not have been out of the book bus and by myself, but the playing field was fenced in, and I felt no danger heading out on my own. I didn't know why I was going out there, but I sat down on the earth with a mission and started to dig with my little fingers. I dug down about four inches and found a small stone monkey. This stone monkey was a match to the “See No Evil”; however, it was “Speak No Evil.”

I was not astonished or alarmed. It was just natural for me to find my own stone monkey. It felt the same as the other—an exact match of size and stone. I kept it with me for some time, but in the end, I took it to my grandma and grandpa and put it next to its friend. Oddly, no one seemed astonished that I had produced the match to the other hand-carved monkey, made in a foreign country, that had been around for many years, with the new one being dug out of the earth with my child fingers. No one seemed to be in awe of this. Yet, how does this happen?

When my grandparents both died, those two monkeys were the only things I really wanted from their house. No one else cared about them, and it wasn't an easy, heartfelt acquisition. I still have both of them, and they sit in my special room.

I always have believed I would find the “Hear No Evil,” and to this day, however, I have not. But these fun synchronicities make life so amusing and push us towards just aligning and claiming all the things we want. We just have to dial it in. I can't wait to see the third monkey of the trio show up in my world.

So, back then, what did I hear that day? How was I called out to the back forty to dig with my bare hands to instantly find the monkey that was not visible? Again, how does this happen? I perhaps just dialed in, but from where? I would have to say from everywhere. The energies are all around us all the time to help us find what we want, because I was just beginning to hear the “God station” back then in elementary school. I still do it to this day with finances and relationships and all of the things I need and want. Manifesting is life’s most incredible game. We all can do it, as it just takes practice. I feel the more I can have, the more I can share with others. What a game! I’m continually thankful to my angels who are always helping me through each phase of life. Gratitude, by the way, is the key. Being grateful for all that comes up keeps us flowing—keeps this flow occurring. I appreciate this incredible and inexplicable God amusement, and I’m excited to stay tuned to the God station just to see what comes next.
