Welcome to Notepad. Most AI-based thinking tools are built around asking questions and chatting. You type a prompt, you get an answer. You type another prompt, you get a different answer. The interaction is sequential and the AI is always at the center of it.
Notepad works differently. You put down what you know, your own thoughts, what you're reading, what you're wondering about. The app builds structure around it as you go. You just focus on typing. The AI isn't something you talk to. It's more like a research partner sitting quietly beside you, annotating everything you add and finding threads between things you didn't connect yourself. No chat, no prompts. You just think.
You can simply start by adding your own Open Router API key. That's the only credential the app uses. Everything stays in your browser. Type a thought and see how the system enriches it. Keep adding more and everything will be classified and enriched for you. You can adjust the text, add that to title or the enrichment itself as well. You can even change the category after. You can also force a category using hashtags as you type.
After a period of typing, the system will suggest a thesis. This is based on what you've written so far. You can add it to your own stack or simply ignore it. All features can be accessed from a command K menu. You can change the view from tiling to Kanban to a graph view. Each view helps you look at your own thoughts differently.
After you're done with the project, you can export as a markdown file. This gives you a properly structured document. You can think of it as a briefing before writing, a gap finder, an outline structure, or even as a structured context for another agent. Since everything is local, you can export your space as a notepad file. It preserves everything. All annotations, connections, and synthesis history. You can share the file with someone else to import it or continue on a different machine.
In Notepad, the AI isn't the final output. AI just helps in formalizing your thoughts and expanding on them. It is the thinking that makes whatever comes next better.
