Hey, I'm Tyler and I make resources that help people crush the TE's. In this video, we're going to do a full TEA science practice test. A full test. That's 50 questions on anatomy and physiology, life science, chemistry, and scientific reasoning. I want to show you what the test is really like. Okay?

People who take the TE's always say stuff like, "Nothing I studied was on the test." or they say, "I was so unprepared." Maybe the most common thing that I hear is people say, "The test was totally different from any of the practice tests that I did." Okay? And that's well because most practice tests, even the ones from ATI, even the ones from ATI are just really different from the actual test. So, they're not good preparation. I've tried to make this practice test as accurate as possible so you can see how the TE's feels. Okay.

Now, if you want, you can do the test on your own first. You can download it from my website, studywithtyler.com, if you're wondering. Yes, I got a new website. Download the test. You can print it out, do the questions, and then there are grading sheets so you can figure out your overall score, the score on the various topics, and so forth. Now, you can definitely do that. Download it, print it out, do it on your own. But honestly, most people download TE's practice tests from websites. They do like four questions and then they just give up. Okay, I don't want that for you because it's not going to help you. I'm hoping that with this video, it'll be kind of like we're working through it together, like we're studying together. And hopefully, it'll be a little bit more fun and engaging. You'll make it through the whole test. uh you'll learn a bunch and it's just going to be really helpful. Okay, so let's let's work through this together like we're just, you know, sitting at a table studying and and just like working you through the TE's.

Okay, now as you go through the test, maybe you just want to check out the questions, okay? But you also might want to be figuring out your score as we go. So if you want to be figuring out your score before we start, make a little grading sheet, okay? Just take a piece of paper, could be any little piece of scrap paper, and write down five topics. Okay? You're going to do overall A&P, life science, chemistry, and then scientific reasoning. Okay? So, just, you know, like five topics on a piece of scrap paper. And as we go, I'll show you how to put in points into the various sections. And then at the end, we'll use these points to tally up your score. and you'll calculate what score you would have gotten if you took this practice test. You know, like if this was like the TE's and you took it today and it'll give you an estimate of your score. Okay? So, just tally the points as we go. I'll tell you exactly how to do it. Just make this little piece of paper before you get started if you want to figure out your score. Okay? So, let's get going.

Again, you can download the test right here. You might just want to do that. Print it out, follow along so you can take notes even if you're watching the video. Just think about it. Question number one, which organ stores and concentrates bile to aid in the digestion of fats? Is it the pancreas, the liver, the spleen, or the gallbladder? Okay, now you might want to pause the video for a minute to think over it. You know, if you can, you might want to write down your final answer or at least just pick it in your mind, right? And commit to it because if you don't commit to an answer, once I tell you what the correct answer is, you're going to be you're you're going to be like, "Oh, yeah, yeah, I I knew it. I knew it. I knew it." Yeah, yeah, totally. Uh, no. But if you commit to it in your mind, you say, "Okay, the answer is A." You know, that's a little different than just saying, "Oh, yeah. Yeah, I I got it right." Okay, so commit to an answer. Maybe pause the video, think about it, commit to an answer. Then you can be honest with yourself about whether you got it right or not. And the answer is D. Gallbladder. Okay, now this is an anatomy and physiology question. If you got this wrong, what do you need to learn? What do you need to brush up on? Okay, you need to learn the job of all the main organs in the body. The job of the main organs is a high priority essential topic. It's one of those topics that you just got to know for the TE's, right? These high priority essential topics, stuff that always always shows up on the test. It's one of the first things you should focus on. So, learn the job in the main organs of the body if you don't already know those jobs. Okay. Now, if you're keeping track of your score, here is what you're going to do. If you got it right, you put one point in the overall column and you put one point in the A&P column. If you didn't get it right, you you just don't put anything. You don't like subtract any points or any you just don't put anything if you got it. Okay, no big deal. Let's move on.

Number two. During which of the following state changes do particles become more disordered? Deposition, freezing, condensation, or sublimation? Maybe pause the video. At least commit to an answer so you can be honest with yourself about whether you got it right or wrong. And the correct choice is D. Sublimation. This is a chemistry topic. It's another high priority essential topic. And if you got it wrong, here's the stuff you got to learn. You got to brush up on. Super important stuff. You got to learn how particles are arranged in each state of matter. How the particles move and all the state changes. What turns in to what. If this stuff is like total gibberish to you, you have no idea what I'm talking about. I have a whole bunch of uh TE's chemistry videos on YouTube that will teach you all the stuff that you need to know so you can learn this topic. You can be ready for it when you see it on the TE's. Okay, did you get it right? Okay, if you got it right, let's add some points. Overall, one point, chemistry, one point. If you didn't get it right, just don't add anything.

Question number three, choose the correct ordering of structures from most complex, I'm sorry, from most simple to most complex. And you might want to pause the video and carefully read all these choices. I'm not going to read each one, right? The correct answer is a amino acid, protein, meioy, heart from most simple to most complex. This is a life science question. Another one of these high priority essential topics. If you're a little shaky on this, here's what you want to learn. You want to learn levels of organization from simple to complex. That's stuff like macroolelecules, cells, organs, and you want to know common examples of each of these things. That's the sort of stuff that the TE's is going to be asking about. Levels of organization, simple to complex.

Now, listen. You might notice I'm not teaching all the stuff that you need to answer these questions. I'm giving you a little run through of like brush up on these topics, but I'm not like actually teaching everything that you need because that would just take way too long for this video. It would be like five or 10 minute lessons for each topic and and I I don't want this video to be like, you know, 10 hours long. Um, but I do have other videos where I have mini lesson like mini lesson explanations for all the questions in this test and they teach everything step by step. They do teach you everything you need to know. So, you can find the explanation videos um at the the link below this video on YouTube. I'll just link it out there or you can just find those uh explanation mini lesson videos on my website studywithtyler.com. you can go through, you can learn all the stuff step by step. So, keep that in mind if you really want someone to teach you all the stuff that we're moving pretty quickly through. And anyway, this question that we just did, uh, a life science question. So, if you got it right, give yourself one more point in the overall column, one point in life science.

Okay. Which of the following deposit minerals forming the matrix of bone? Osteons, osteoblasts, osteoclasts, or osteoprogenitors. And the answer is osteoblasts. Super important stuff. High priority topic, anatomy and physiology. And if you didn't know this, here's what you got to learn. You got to learn the parts of bones. So important on the TE's. What we call the bone remodeling cycle. How bones get broken down, how they get built up, and which types of cells do what. This stuff is such a high priority topic. bones and their structure and and how they change almost always on the T's. Make sure that you know it. One point overall if you got it right, one point in A&P if you got it right.

Five. A student measures how much oxygen is produced by a plant under different light conditions. The results are shown below. And then we got this table here. Which conclusion is best supported by the data in the table? Okay, we have A. Increasing light intensity always increases oxygen production at the same rate. B the plant produces the same amount of oxygen in all light conditions. C. Oxygen production increases with light intensity, but the increase becomes smaller at high light levels. and D, the plant only produces oxygen when exposed to high light levels. You might want to, you know, pause the video, think this over. This requires a lot of thought, figure out what's going on here, decide on a correct answer. And the right choice here is C. This is a scientific reasoning question. And it's a very common type of scientific reasoning question that you see where they give you some some data, some information, and then you have to draw conclusions. So, this isn't like particular facts that you need to know or that you need to memorize. It's it's a process that you need to learn how to read tables like this, how to read information, and then come to conclusions. And um I'll give you some hacks for how to work through this in the explanation mini lesson video that that you can watch on this. So keep that in mind if if you need uh a little help with mastering these kind of questions. These kind of questions do show up on the TE's like all the time, which is why I consider this a high priority essential topic. Like not this topic itself with like plants and oxygen. That's not the high priority topic. The high priority topic is knowing how to look at a table like this or a graph or pieces of information and draw conclusions. That's the high priority topic that that always shows up and shows up in the scientific reasoning question in the scientific reasoning section. So, you know, I try to summarize what you need to learn, right? To to to crush questions like this, you need to know how to read a table or graph and figure out what the information is saying. and you need to know how to draw conclusions based on that information. Super important. Again, in the explanation mini lesson, I'll I'll walk you through how to think about questions like this. So, take a look at that video in the in the links below or on my website. Um, this was a scientific reasoning question. So, if you got it right, one question, one point overall and one point for scientific reasoning.

Okay. Six. In mice, sematic cells contain 40 chromosomes. How many how many chromosomes are found in each germ cell? Is it 10, 20, 40, or 80? The answer is 20. This is a high priority life science topic. And if you need to learn this stuff, you need to brush up on concepts like sematic cells, germ cells, gametes, sex cells. You want to know about meiosis and what it does. You want to know about chromosome number. And you want to know the difference between diploid and hloid. Yeah, a whole bunch of things I know, but high priority topics that almost always show up. Definitely important things to focus on for life science. One point overall if you got it right, one point in life science.

Okay. Which of the following atoms has the largest atomic radius? And we've got H, K, Cl, and FR. The correct answer here, FR. Now, this question is a little bit different. This is chemistry, but it's a challenge topic. That's the first one of these that we've seen. What do I mean by this? Well, when we're going through the T's, I like to break questions down into two different categories. Okay, first off, we have our high priority essential topics. These are the topics that I think are easiest to learn. They almost always show up on the test. I always tell people learn as many as possible. And and and these high priority topics are the first thing you should focus on when you're starting to study. You should make sure that you know as many high priority topics as possible. Okay. Now, for most people who just want to pass with, you know, what need a good passing score, but they're just focused on passing, usually the high priority, the high priority topics are all they need, right? People tell me they're like, I just want to pass. I don't need a crazy high score. I just want to pass. I say focus on the high priority essential topics. Okay? But if you are looking for a really high score, you're like, I want to get the highest score possible. I want to get a crazy good scholarship. I want to get into a very, very competitive program. I need the highest score possible on the TE's. Then, okay, then we got to start focusing on the challenge topics, and this is one of them. So, my point is, it's like, do you want to worry about the challenge topics? It depends. If you want a really high score, yeah, it's something to pay attention to. If you're more focused on just passing, yeah, if you get some challenge topics correct, that's awesome. But my advice to you would be focus on the high priority essential topics. And the most important thing to know here, right, is that on the TE's, some questions are harder than others, and you don't have to get them all right. Okay? There are all these videos on YouTube, and it drives me nuts where people like, "How to get a 99% on the TE's, and I studied for a week, and I got a 99%." This just it's garbage. All right, because first of all, most people don't need a 99% on the TE's. I don't know anyone who could study for a week and get 99% on the I couldn't study for a week and get a 99% on the TE. So, anyone who's telling you that's something to, you know, try for is out of their freaking minds. All right, it's just garbage. But anyway, the point is, let's say you do want a really, really high score. It's going to take a lot of time. You got to learn all these challenge topics that are harder that show up less often. And most of the time, people don't need or want a 99%. They're happy to just pass, right? And way too often, people get distracted by all the challenge topics. They see some hard questions on the TE's and they're like, "Oh my god, you know, I got to get all these right." No, you you don't. If you just want to pass, it's okay to be totally clueless about many challenge topics. just focus on the high priority essential topics and that's probably all you need for a passing score. Right? So hopefully that advice lets you relax a little bit. If you're just trying to pass, you will see really really hard questions on the TE's. You can probably safely ignore most of them and you'll still probably be okay. All right, that's that's what I that's what I hope to uh to teach you here. But anyway, this is a challenge topic. It's going to be important if you want to get a really high score. And what you would need to know for this kind of a question, a chemistry question, is you want to know what atomic radius means because we're talking about atomic radius. You want to know about atomic radius patterns on the periodic table. And you want to be familiar with the location of common elements on the periodic table. I walk through all this sort of stuff in the explanation mini lesson, okay? But that's just my point. If you are looking for a really high score, this is the kind of stuff that you're going to want to know to do really well in these challenge questions. You got it right. One question, one point overall, one point in chemistry.

Number eight, choose the accurate statement. A, the sternal region is posterior to the dorsal region. B, the appendix is superior to the liver liver. C, the rectus abdominis is anterior to the glutius maximus. Or D, the femur is inferior to the fibula. The correct answer is C. This is a high priority topic. This is on fire. It's such a high priority topic. It's anatomy and physiology. And if you had trouble answering this, there's some really important stuff you got to learn. You want to learn the location of the common regions, organs, muscles, and bones in the human body. And you need to know anatomical terms that uh tell us where parts of the body are in relation to each other. So stuff like anterior, superior, and so forth. really really really important for anatomy and physiology on the TE's knowing all this stuff. One point overall, one point A and P if you got it right.

Number nine, a researcher collects data from several towns and observes that towns with a greater number of ice cream shops also report a higher number of accidental drownings during the summer months. Which of the following is a best conclusion? based on this information. Okay. Is it A, eating more ice cream causes an increase in drowning incidents? B, opening more ice cream shops directly leads to unsafe swimming conditions. C, there is a correlation between ice cream shops and accidental drownings, but there is not necessarily causation. or D. Reducing the number of ice cream shops will immediately reduce drowning rates. Okay, this is a tricky question, but it's very similar to questions that show up on the TE's. Okay, and the answer is C. This is a scientific reasoning question. It is such a high priority essential topic. As I said, questions like this, not this specific question, but questions like this show up on pretty much every TE's exam in the scientific reasoning section. And what you need to learn is the difference between correlation and causation. Got to be able to tell the difference when you're given an example like this. You got to know what's correlation, what's causation. The TE's loves correlation and causation for scientific reasoning. Ooh, you got to learn it. I I talk through it in the in the mini lesson explanation. I'll teach you all the stuff that you need to know. So, so check those out if you have no idea what correlation causation are and you're totally freaked out by it. You won't be after I I after I after I teach you in those mini lessons, but anyway, scientific reasoning, give yourself one point there, one point overall if you got it right. Didn't get it right? No big deal. Just don't add anything.

10. Water reabsorption in the descending loop of heal is most accurately described as active transport along a concentration gradient, active transport against a concentration gradient, osmosis along a concentration gradient, or osmosis against a concentration gradient. The answer is C. Osmosis along a concentration gradient. Ooh ooh ooh. Osmosis diffusion. The tease loves it. And osmosis and diffusion can show up in the anatomy and physiology section which is where where they are here. They can also show up in the life science questions. So when you learn osmosis and diffusion you are helping yourself in multiple areas. High priority topic you need to learn osmosis and diffusion the difference similarities and differences. You need to know active transport versus passive transport. You need to know how a kidney works. That's why this is kind of more an&p style question because it's osmosis in the kidney. So you want to learn how the kidney works and you need to know the anatomy of a nephron. Right? The nephron are little little units within the kidney. You need to know how a nephron works. So that's all the sort of stuff that you need to ace a question like this on the te's. Super common questions like this. osmosis, kidneys, active transport, passive trans transport, like I can almost guarantee you're going to see something very, very similar. Got it right. One point overall, one point A and P.

Moving on. A student is attempting to determine the volume of an irregularly shaped object. They use the following procedure. First, they fill a graduated cylinder to the 20.0 ml mark. Next, they allow the object to sink in the water. Afterwards, they measure the water level as 25.5 milliliters. What is a volume of the object? Is it A 5 centimeters or centimeters cubed? B 5.5 cubic centimeters, C 25.5 cubic centimeters, or D 45.5 centimeters. The correct answer is B. 5.5 cubic centimeters. Scientific reasoning question. High priority topic. If you're not sure about it, you've got to learn what is volume. You've got to learn methods to calculate volume. Sometimes you'll use math for that. Sometimes you'll use methods in the lab. And along with this stuff, you should learn density and density calculations. It's all kind of related and it usually shows up on the TE's. Definitely a high priority essential topic and got it right. Give yourself one point overall, one point for scientific reasoning.

12. Which of the following monomer pairs would create a disaccharide when bonded together? We've got glutamate and lysine, glucose and galactose, alanine and thymine, glycerol and fatty acid. The answer is B. Glucose and galactose. This is a life science high priority essential topic. You need to know biomolecules which is stuff like carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, monomers and polymers and common examples of all all that sort of stuff. You want to know some common examples. Glucose and galactose very common examples. So if you know uh the basics, you'll be able to answer this question. This is a life science topic. So give yourself one point if you got it right and then put one point in overall as well.

13. What is the name for the combination of temperature and pressure at which a substances solid, liquid and gas phases can simultaneously exist at equilibrium. Triple point, critical point, extinction point, subcritical point, a triple point. The TE's loves this. The TE's just loves triple point. I have absolutely no idea why they do, but they do. So, you got to know it. It's a chemistry high priority essential topic. What to learn, what triple point is, how it's different from critical point. Everyone always confuses triple point and critical point. Don't be that person. I don't want you to get this stuff right. I mean, God, I don't want you to get this stuff wrong. I don't want you to get this stuff wrong. Um, I I I I want you to crush the TE's. Um, I I there's no excuse for getting this stuff wrong. I I I really want you to to get it right. The tease loves it. Triple point. If you got it right, overall one point. Chemistry one point.

Okay. Which of the following is a true statement regarding the scientific process? A. A hypothesis is not valid unless it can be falsified. Once an experiment is published in a scientific journal, the conclusions are fully accepted. C. A scientific theory represents an informed guess about a process or phenomenon. D. A hypothesis is proven true after accumulating sufficient supporting evidence. The answer, A, a hypothesis is not valid unless it can be falsified. Lots and lots of stuff to learn. This is a scientific reasoning high priority topic. Um the scientific process which is like how scientific information is discovered and shared. The TE's loves that. They love it. They love it. They love it. There's all sorts of stuff involved in that. You got to know about how hypothesis works, experiments, conclusions, how scientists test hypotheses, how scientific theories are created, how scientific knowledge changes over time. You will always see at least one question on the scientific process in the scientific reasoning section of the TE's. And this is kind of tricky because this is usually not something that you learn much in class. Like maybe you have a couple pages at the beginning of your science textbook on like, oh, you know, here's a hypothesis and then you test the data and you form conclusions. Yeah. But that kind of stuff that that you learn is like not indepth enough for what the tease wants you to know. So, you've really got to understand the scientific process, all this kind of stuff, um, at at a at a pretty significant depth to answer questions like this that always show up on the TE's. So, so that's my advice to you. Make sure you learn all the stuff about the scientific process. If you got this question right, one point overall, one point scientific reasoning.

Moving on to uh, question 15. Which of the following molecules contains double bonds? H2, F2, O2, or N2? The answer is O2. This is a chemistry topic and it is a challenge topic. Okay, so one of those if you if you saw it a minute ago and you're like, "Oh gosh, I have absolutely no idea how to answer it." Well, if you are just looking to pass, you can probably ignore questions like this, you can, you know, breathe a little easier and say, "Okay, I can not worry about this." If you want a really high score, yeah, this is more the kind of thing that you need to know. Um, and if you do want to master questions like this, you'll need to know the location of common elements on the periodic table. You'll want to know about veence electrons, how many veence electrons common elements have. Um then you also want to know how many valence electrons they want and most importantly how many bonds these common elements will form. But again it's a challenge question and you know what let me tell you something about this question. Haha it's unscored. You know what that means? This is just another way that the TE's messes with you. Okay this is an unscored question. Here's what that means. On every test there are six questions that do not count. I'll say that again. There are six questions that don't count. No, you don't know which those are. The TE's knows, but you don't know, right? So, right or I made a mistake here. Look at this problem on the slide. It should say right or wrong, they don't affect your score. You get them right, you get them wrong. It doesn't matter. It doesn't affect your score. So, sometimes people freak out over hard questions that they see on the test. And you see this in you see this in Reddit. You see this in in, you know, Facebook forums and stuff. People like, "Oh my god, he saw all these impossible question stuff." Well, maybe those questions were unscored. Maybe they didn't even count to your score. Okay? So, don't freak out over hard questions. They might turn out to be unscored. Okay? So, this was a perfect example. It's a hard topic, challenge topic. You might be, you know, covered in sweat because you're so worried about it, you don't know how to answer it. And then it turns out it didn't even affect your score anyway. It was unscored. Since this was unscored though, even if you got it right, it doesn't affect your score. So you don't add anything to the columns. Right or wrong, it doesn't affect your score. So

16. Moving on. Which mutation is most likely to create a wholly nonfunctional protein? Is it nonsense, missense, silent, or frame shift? Frame shift. This is a challenge topic. Uh it's a life science challenge topic. Um if you've taken um a a rigorous microbiology class or a molecular biology class, you probably have learned about these different types of mutations. You would need to get this question right. You need to understand how mRNA codons are translated into amino acids. and you want to know how the different types of mutations affect the amino acids in a protein. If this is stuff you've already learned in a class, that's great. If you're just trying to pass, it's probably not worth learning this very complex information. Ha. And look at that. Just like we've seen with other questions, it's unscored. It doesn't affect your score. So, you see something like this on the test, don't freak out about it. It's no big deal. unscored. Let's move on.

Deiselination, the loss of myelin sheaths from nerve cells results in which of the following? Faster nerve impulse conduction, slower nerve impulse conduction, increased resting membrane potential or inability to repolarize. The answer is slower nerve impulse conduction. This is an anatomy and physiology question obviously because we're talking about nerve cells and it's a challenge topic. It's actually kind of it's kind of on the edge. It's kind of borderline. It's not the hardest question in the world. It's not the easiest. If you're struggling with this stuff, what you need to learn is the different parts of a nerve cell and what they do and how an electrical impulse travels through a nerve cell. Got it right? One point overall and one point for A&P.

18. Water dissolves disaccharides but it does not dissolve triglycerides. This is due to which of the following properties? I'm not going to read all these answers because I want you to read them uh very carefully. The wording is important. So take a look at that and then choose which one is correct. And the answer is B. Water's polar, disaccharides are polar, and triglycerides are non-polar. This is a chemistry question. It is a high priority topic. It's about things that are polar and non-polar. This stuff is all over the TE's. All over the TE's. What you need to learn for this is which common chemicals are polar and which are non-polar. And you need to learn how things dissolve based on whether they're polar or non-polar. The tease loves to ask questions about this thing. Will it dissolve in this other thing? You have to know the rules for polarity and you know and you need to know the rules for how polar things or non-polar things dissolve. One point for chemistry and one point overall if you got it correct.

The structures pictured below are primarily involved with exchange of gases, sensory perception, waste filtration or release of hormones. Exchange of gases. What we are seeing is we are seeing part of the lungs here, tiny little units of the lungs and a high priority topic, anatomy and physiology topic. If you're struggling with this, you need to learn the job of the main organs. I've said that many times because it's so important for job of the main organs and what the organs look like. So, if someone showed you the, you know, picture of the lungs, you should know those are lungs. because you know what they do and also what their smaller parts look like, right? So, you want to be able to look at at uh little units like this and know that that's part of the lungs and then you know the lungs job is uh gas exchange. Okay. A&P question super high priority gives yourself uh one point overall one point A&P if you got it right.

20. Which of the following is not normally found in blood plasma? Pepsin, gamaglobulin, albumin or sodium ions. And the answer pepsin. Uh this is anatomy and physiology question. High priority essential topic. And what you want to learn is uh the parts of the blood. Blood super important. All over the te's parts of the blood. One point overall, one point A and P if you got it correct.

A piece of steel wool is placed into a sealed container after being exposed to oxygen. After several days, the steel wool gains mass, which the following best explains this observation. The steel wool releases energy that increases its weight. The steel wool absorbs water vapor, which cools it, makes it heavier. A chemical reaction occurs where oxygen combines with the steel, increasing the total mass. Four, the steel will produces new metal atoms as it breaks down. The answer is C. This is a scientific reasoning topic and it's a challenge topic. You will see questions like this on the TE's though where they give you an unfamiliar situation and you have to figure out which of the choices best explain what's going on. Um, how do you deal with these kind of questions, right? What do you learn? Well, it's usually going to be something you've never seen before. So, it's not like, you know, the answer is learn 500 different facts and science because one of them might show up. Instead, and I talk about this in the in the, you know, mini um the mini lesson explanation videos, but what you want to learn to do is how to stay cool when you see a topic that you've never seen before. And for these style of scientific reasoning questions, you want to learn how to get rid of bad answers and choose answers that are most likely. No, you probably will never have seen the specific situation the tease is asking about. But acing these questions is all about learning how to recognize uh bad answers and how to recognize answers that are most likely. This is a scientific reasoning question. Obviously, one point for that, one point overall. Uh, if you got it right.

This is such a high priority essential topic. really really important to know obviously A&P question give yourself one point if you got that right and uh a one point in the overall section.

Now a cell with chloroplasts is most likely to belong to an organism classified as a heteratroe or oxatroof and the answer is B. Now listen, chloroplasts, I'm going to tell you right now, are something you see in plants. Now you might be thinking there are plants nowhere in the ATI book. I don't think the ATI book mentions chloroplasts once, but trust me, this stuff is all over the TE's. There are many things on the TE's that are not in the ATI study guide, and there's a lot of stuff on the ATI study guide that never shows up on the TE's. So that ATI study guide, you know, it it it it it's made by the people who make the test, but it is not very good for studying because there's lots of stuff on the test that is not in the ATI book and there's lots in the ATI book that is not in the test. Uh a trophast nowhere in the ATI book, but it's all over the TE's. So, this is a challenge topic. It's a life science topic. Um, to to beat the questions like this that you will see on the TE's, you'll want to learn what chloroplasts do, what photosynthesis is, and you'll want to know the difference between autoroes and heterotroes. Very, very important. Now, here's the thing. It turns out, boom, that this question is actually unscored. So, if you saw unfamiliar terms, you got all freaked out. It actually doesn't matter because it's unscored. Sometimes scary looking questions on the T's will be unscored. Not always. Not always, but sometimes. So keep that in mind before you totally freak out.

24. The primary function of the blank is to absorb water and electrolytes and that is the job of the large intestine. Such a high priority essential topic anatomy and physiology obviously what to learn. You know, I'm always saying the jobs of the major organs, what they do. Specifically for this question, how the digestive system works and the job of all the main organs in the digestive system. But just generally, you want to know the job of all the main organs in the body. This stuff is going to show up on the TE's over and over again. This is the high priority stuff, the essential stuff that you want to focus on before you worry about anything else. Okay, got it right. One point overall, one point A and P

25. An ion of oxygen 18 has a charge of 2 minus. How many neutrons does it have? Ooh this is such hot stuff. Questions like this all over the TE's. Okay, answer is 10. As I said, this is a high priority essential topic. It's chemistry. Questions like this are all over the TE's. If you can't do questions like this, chemistry questions like this, you want to learn how because if you don't, you're just like leaving points on the table, you will see at least one question that uses these concepts, that uses these ideas on the T. So to crack it, you want to know how to calculate protons, neutrons, and electrons using atomic number, mass number, andor net charge. There are many, many different ways that the T's might ask questions like this. They're all going to use the concepts, the same concepts. protons, neutrons, electrons, atomic number, mass number. Got to know how to deal with this stuff. It is such a high priority topic. Got to learn it. If you don't know how to do it, learn how to do it so you can solve questions like this. And I'm just going to say memorizing definitions isn't going to help you here. Right? People, oh yeah, oh, I know that, you know, atomic number I memorize the definition of atomic number is the number of No, no, no, no. Right? You have to be able to solve questions. If you can't answer questions like this, it doesn't matter what you've memorized. It doesn't matter what you've memorized if you can't answer questions like this. So, make sure that you can answer questions like this because you're going to see them on the TE's. TE doesn't care if you memorize the definitions, right? You learn them from some YouTube video, whatever. The definition of blah is known as the number of this plus. Doesn't matter. The TE's is not going to ask you what is the definition of this. They're going to ask you, can you solve this problem? If you can't solve this problem, you're not ready. Make sure you can if you got it right though. One point overall, one point for chemistry.

Ligaments perform what function? A. Hold bone to bone, B hold muscle to bone, C hold muscle to muscle or D provide cushion between bones. A bone to bone high priority essential topic. Um this is about you know sort of major important functions of the body. What to learn for this job of tendons and ligaments? One point overall, one point A and P.

Okay. For a particular trait, a mouse has a genotype of big G, big G. It breeds with another mouse of unknown genotype and all offspring are genotype big G, little G. What is the unknown genotype? Big G, big G, big G, little G, little G, little G, or just little G? The answer is C. Little G, little G. This is a life science high priority essential topic. Like high priority doesn't even begin to describe it. We're talking about pet squares here. And the T's loves Punet squares. You will see a question like this genotype alals big G, big G, little G, little G. Punet squares. A question like this, at least one is going to show up on the TE's. So if you couldn't answer this, you got to learn this stuff. You're just leaving points behind if you don't learn this stuff. It's relatively straightforward. I have videos that can teach you uh uh alals, genotypes, pet squares. Make sure to learn this stuff. So important. One point overall, one point life science.

Pregnancy tests work by detecting which of the following hormones? Luteinizing hormone, follical stimulating hormone, progesterone or corionic gonadotropen. Answer is D. Corionic gonadotropen. This is an anatomy and physiology question. It's a challenge topic. It's not the kind of thing that you're probably going to learn in just the most basic A&P class. You have to think through it a little bit to be able to answer this. You need to have some knowledge of the menstrual cycle and the hormones, what they do, how they change throughout the cycle. Um, and also hormones during pregnancy, what they do. Challenge topic. This was unscored though. So, if you got it wrong, no big deal. It was unscored. But questions like this will show up on the TE's. Hormones are super important. The menstrual cycle is very important. Pregnancy is very important. So, just because this was unscored, uh, it it it it doesn't mean this stuff's not important. This stuff still is very important. Make sure to learn it. This was a challenge topic but these concepts also show up in many high priority essential questions. So learn it. Menstrual cycle hormones pregnancy hormones know it.

What type of cloud is associated with heavy rain and snow? Nimbus cirrus cumulus or nimbo stratus? I'm smiling here because it's like this must be a joke, right? You're thinking this must be a joke, right? No, it's not. like this particular question I made up. But the tease does this. When you take the tease, you will see a bunch of questions like this that are so out of left field. You will think, to use a word from the 90s, you will think you're being punked. Like, like seriously, you will see questions about, I don't know, clouds. You will see questions about volcanoes. You'll see questions about dinosaurs. You will see questions about stuff that you never in a million years could have predicted. This is the tease messing with you. They do it every time. When you see a question like this, you're not getting punked. It is what the tease does. They throw out these totally random, ridiculous questions that have nothing to do with anything. I don't know why they do it, but they are going to do it. So, you need to be ready. You need to be ready to be punked. You need to be ready to see questions that are so absurd, that feel so unfair, that feel so brutal, you just can't believe it. You need to be ready for it because this stuff is going to break your confidence. If you're not ready for it, the tease is going to break your confidence because you're going to see crap like this and you're going to think, "Oh my god, I should have studied. Where was this in the ATI study guide?" And and and I'm such a bad student. It's nowhere in the freaking study guide. All right. It's nowhere in the study guide, so don't beat yourself up about it. I I I'm guessing that you you don't even know like what kind of cloud is associated with he we're not even worried about that, right? What I do want you to take away from this is that there will always I'm going to do this in red. There will always be some questions on the TE's that you couldn't possibly answer. They will feel unfair. They will feel brutal. They will feel random. You will think you're being punked. Don't let them break your confidence. I could say this a million times. The tease is is is like 50% information and 50% mental. So much of this test is about staying cool under pressure. I don't know if this is intentional for by ATI or not, but there is so much on this test that breaks your confidence that makes you doubt yourself. And then once your confidence is broken, you're just you don't trust yourself. You start getting things wrong. You get flustered. You get stressed. Don't let them break your confidence. When you see a ridiculous, brutal question like this feels totally unfair. Do your best and move on. Don't let them break your confidence. Okay? I get so worked up about this because I know so many people who knew the information so well. They were so prepared and then they went in, you know, and they saw a question about, you know, like elephant mating rituals or some stuff like that, and and and and then after that they saw a a question about, you know, how jet airplanes worked, you know, physics of jet airplanes or some something like that, right? And they got so worked up, they failed because they got so stressed out and they started getting everything wrong, right? Don't let them break your confidence. Be ready for unfair questions. Be ready for brutal questions. Do your best and move on. Know they're coming. Don't let them break your confidence. Do your best and move on. Scientific reasoning question challenge topic doesn't even matter, right? Um, nimbo stratus in case you care about clouds. Like maybe some of you

will know this if you've taken an earth science class, but you're like earth science on the TE's are why? Just because because they can. Because they can. Huh? And just because they can, too. It's unscored. Right? So, it's like you get all been out of shape about this. You think, "Oh, I didn't learn this stuff. I'm so stupid. I blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah." And then at the end of the day, it's not even scored, right? Talk about just messing with you. Okay? Don't let them mess with you. Do your best and move on. Don't get Don't get bent out of shape. Don't let them break your confidence. got so worked up about that.

Consider the fundamental equation F=ma. The variable m could be reported in which of the following units. And then we have these four four choices that are like different letters, right? So I don't know quite how to read this. M dash s squared. Just read over them following units and the answer is B kg. This is a scientific reasoning question. It's a challenge topic but what you do need to know is you need to know the common units stuff like kilogram, meters and so forth. And you need to know their abbreviations. Okay? And you need to know what each unit is used to measure. Does it measure mass? Does it measure length? Stuff like that. Put those two pieces of information together and you'll be able to answer pretty much any question like this that they throw at you.

Um, oh, I didn't I missed that slide. Right. So, this is overall. Give yourself one point if you got it correct. And since this is a scientific reasoning question, give yourself one point for that if you got it right. Sorry that I uh sorry that I missed that slide.

31. Which of the following hormones is not created by the adrenal glands? Is it? Aldoststerone, calcetonin, cortisol, or epinephrine? Calcetonin. Anatomy and physiology. High priority. Essential topic. Hormones. Hormones. Hormones all over the TE's. I don't know why this is so important to them, but it is. You got to know all the major hormones, what they do, and where they're created. For this question, you don't need to know specifically what they do. You just need to know where they're where they're made, where they're created. But generally for the TE's, high priority topics, you want to know hormones, what they do, and where they get made. So important. One point overall, one point A&P.

The primary function of blank is to carry genetic information. Carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids. Boom. Nucleic acids. So important. Uh, nucleic acids are things like DNA and RNA. Um, and it's life science, high priority, essential topic for questions like this. You want to know the job of each type of macroolelecule. Carbohydrates, what do they do? Proteins, what do they do? Lipids, what do they do? Nucleic acids, what do they do? That's what it boils down to. Got it right. One point overall, one point life science.

A researcher needs to separate bacterial cells from the nutrient broth in which they are growing. The most appropriate tool for this task is a micro pipet, centrifuge, spectr photoometer or chromatography column. It is a centrifuge. Uh this is a scientific reasoning question. It's a challenge topic. Um questions like this show up on the TE's a lot. you have different uh lab tools or lab equipment and you have to know what each one of them is used for. And the lab tools you might see come from life science, they come from microbiology, they come from chemistry. And so it's sort of like lab tools that you would run into when you're doing experiments in a in a lab class. So if you've taken uh you know like a microbiology class or a cell biology class these are all if we go back here these are all sort of tools that you might use in the various experiments that you do in a lab component. So uh uh familiarity with the common uh lab tools and equipment and what they do scientific reasoning one point for that one point overall if you got it right.

Okay. A team of researchers wants to determine the amount of chewing tobacco usage throughout the state of Minnesota. They interview teenagers in the cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and St. Cloud. It is determined that fewer than 1% of individuals use chewing tobacco. What is a weakness a weakness of this investigation? A data are biased by the sample selection. Um, the tease loves to ask questions about uh people doing experiments and it loves to give examples of people doing experiments or investigations and doing them wrong and then you have to read it over and you have to figure out like what did they do wrong. So, in order to answer questions like this, you want to know how to plan and carry out a good experiment or investigation. And that includes knowing what all these things are. You need to know about controls, dependent variables, independent variables, proper sample selection, avoiding bias, and so forth. So that when the T they'll give you another example. You know, this is one that I made up, but but you'll see something similar on the T's. And they'll give you an example. They're doing an investigation. They're doing an experiment. And you need to be able to say, uh, they made a mistake because of this. Got it right. One point overall, one point for scientific reasoning.

35. Sweat glands are located in which layer of skin? Is it the dermis, the epidermis, the hypodermis, or the subcutaneous? A the dermis. Uh anatomy and physiology high priority topic. Uh layers of the skin. Very important on the TE's. You want to know uh what the different layers of the skin are, what they're made of, uh what things are in each layer of skin, and if you saw a diagram of skin, you want to be able to recognize where the different layers are. So, those are the things you want to know to answer a question like this. Got it right. One point overall, one point AMP.

It's one of those areas where there's stuff on the test that's not in the book. So uh to answer questions like this, you want to know how muscles get the signal to contract or move and you want to know what neurotransmitters are and what they do. Overall one point uh&p one point if you if you got this right.

Uh, this is a life science question, a high priority essential topic. It's in the category of microbiology. To answer a question like this, you want to be able to identify common diseases as either transmissible or non-transmissible. It's like a whole bunch of diseases. If they give them to you on the tease, you want to be able to say, "Oh, that's transmissible or that's non-transmissible." If they're transmissible, you want to know, are they caused by bacteria, virus, fungus, prozzoa, or animal? Those are sort of the different things that can cause transmissible diseases. And then you want to know what medicines may be used to treat the diseases. Okay, knowing all that will let you answer a question like this. So, got it right. One point overall, one point life science.

Which of the following is the site of translation? DNA polymerase, RNA polymerase, ribosome, or protein? Ribosome. Life science high priority essential topic when we're talking about transcription, translation, ribosome, super high priority stuff. You want to know the steps of how cells make protein from a gene. You want to know what happens during transcription and translation. And you want to know where these processes take place. I have a diagram here. You should be familiar with all the stuff in this diagram. You should know exactly how the stuff happens, what's happening in the steps and and uh and and where it's happening. Okay. All right. Got it right. One point overall, one point life science.

Correctly. Order the following stages of nerve conduction. K+ channels open, repolarization, stimulus received. Na+ channels open, action potential created. Yeah, this is something that shows up on the TE's a lot. It's not in the ATI study guide, but it does show up on the TE's. So, the correct answer here is first thing stimulus received, then Na+ channels open, then action potential created, then K plus channels open, then we get repolarization. So, the correct choices here are C, D, E, AB. That's the correct order. This is a challenge topic. Uh, but it's anatomy and physiology. You will probably see a question like this about the nittygritty details of how nerve cells work. It's not in the ATI book, but it's probably going to be on your TE's exam. All right. So, what to learn to beat a question like this? You want to know the details of how nerve cells create an action potential and how they repolarize. We have sodium Na+. We have potassium K plus ions. They're moving across the cell membrane through different channels that are opening and closing. It's kind of like this whole process that happens. It creates an electrical impulse. It moves down the cell. But to be able to answer a question like this, you need to know the steps of how this process happens. This is not unscored, right? You might have thought, oh, it's, you know, really hard. It's going to be unscored. No, it's definitely scored. This is definitely scored if you got it right. Overall one point A and P one point.

How does a catalyst affect the rate of reaction? It decreases the rate by raising activation energy. It decreases the rate by lowering activation energy. It increases the rate by raising activation energy. It increases the rate by lowering activation energy. You want to read this question really, really carefully, right? Because it's like similar words all over the place, but only one of them is right. So don't don't get, you know, don't get it wrong because you're a careless and quick reading. The answer is D. It increases the rate by lowering activation energy. High priority topic. It doesn't even get close enough. This should be like a Here's my fire. This should be like a smoking hot unbelievably high important topic. Catalysts like you got to know this stuff. It is just it's on fire. It's so important. What should you learn? What catalysts do and how catalysts work? This is uh uh chemistry. So, one point overall, one point chemistry.

Which of the following substances neutralizes excess H+ ions when blood pH lowers? A. Carbonic acid. B. Carbon dioxide. C. Carbon monoxide. D. Bicarbonate. The correct answer is Dicarbonate. High priority essential topic anatomy and physiology. What to learn here? Okay, you need to learn the basics of acids and bases, no pun intended. The pH scale and H+ ions. Now, you need to know this stuff not just for A&P, but you need to know this for chemistry. You need to know this for life science. You need to know it for A&P. Yeah, it might also show up on scientific reasoning. So knowing the foundations of acids and bases, the pH scale, H+ ions is one of the most important things like you could ever spend time brushing up on for the TE's. Okay, acids and bases show up in so many different places. Now, specifically for A&P, you need to know about the buffer chemicals in blood that maintain pH and how they work. Okay? And if you know that, you'll be able to get a question like this right. Overall one point A&P one point

Lipase would be most important for the digestion of which food pasta chicken oil or apple oil. Anatomy and physiology high priority essential topic. What to learn? You want to know how the digestive system works. You want to know the common enzymes in the body and what they do. And you want to know the names and jobs of biomolecules. All right, get it right. One point overall, one point AMP.

Which of the following are key drivers of genetic diversity in gametes? Select all that apply. Select all that apply. Crossing over, recombination, mutation, replication, independent assortment. Which ones? Which ones? They are A and B crossing over re combination and E independent assortment. This is a life science challenge topic. What you want to learn is what genetic diversity is and what it means and you want to know the ways that meiosis creates genetic diversity. If you got it right, one point overall, one point life science.

Feel like that person there. Um, this is another one of those questions that I put in to give you a feel for how the tease is really going to be, right? This is another one of these crazy questions that just feel totally random, brutal. You couldn't possibly answer it. There will always be some questions on the TE's that you couldn't possibly answer. Don't let them break your confidence. Do your best. Pick an answer. Move on. It's not your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. You're not unprepared. You're not dumb. You whatever. See the question, recognize it is brutal and ridiculous and just laugh at you're getting punked. Whatever. Choose something and move on. The answer is D. There there may be people who know this. This is the kind of thing that you might cover in a very advanced A&P class. You know, if you took like, you know, an advanced A&P class and your professor was a big fan of this, you you might you might have learned, right? But most people most people will not be able to answer this, right? Um, so this is a challenge topic. It's a life science challenge. But then, ha, there look, there's a tease being the tease. Again, it's unscored. So again, super hard question. You get totally bent out of shape about it. At the end of the day, it's unscored. Don't let these hard, random, brutal questions break your confidence. They might not even count anyway. Okay.

It's another one of those areas where the study guide doesn't give you everything you need to know for the test, right? So, if you want to be able to get questions like this, right, you're going to need to know the details of how muscles contract, you want to know things like the jobs of actin, meosin, tropomyosin, CA2 plus, ATP, ADP, and how power strokes work. All of that information comes together to let you answer a question like this. This was not unscored. This was hard, but it was not unscored. So overall, one point 1.8

46. Which organel is responsible for releasing and harnessing energy stored in food? Loome, chloroplas, mitochondria, endopplasmic carticulum, mitochondria. Some questions are easier than others. I'm just going to say that here. the jobs of the organels in plant and animal cells, what they look like and what they do. It's just like such a high priority essential topic. One of the first, if you're just diving into life science, one of the first things that you need to learn is the different parts of the cell, the organels, what they do, also what they look like. So, if you saw, you know, a cell like this, you could recognize um the different organels. Um, but what the organels look like, what they do, super super super high priority life science stuff. Got it right. One point overall, one point life science.

Blood leaving the lungs next enters the left atrium, right atrium, left ventricle, right ventricle. What is it? The left atrium. This is another one of these ones where I should just draw my like little fire here. Blood flow of the heart, blood flow path through the lungs, heart and the rest of body is so important. It's very basic. I don't mean that in like an insulting kind of way. It is very basic. It is always on the te's and there are always people who get it wrong because they don't learn the basics. They don't learn the most important essential topics. know how blood flows through the lungs, the heart, the rest of the body. The blood flow path. Highest possible priority for A&P. Got it right. Good. One point overall, one point A&P.

48. We're getting there. Which of the following describes the effect of increasing the pressure on a gaseous system already at equilibrium given the reaction? And then we have this. I'm not going to like read the reaction, but you have we have the reaction. Here it is. Here's here's a reaction where all species are gaseous and the reaction is exothermic. A the equilibrium will shift to the right increasing the concentration of C. The equilibrium will shift to the left decreasing the concentration of D. The equilibrium position will not shift but the value of K will increase. The equilibrium position will not shift and the value of K will not change. I'm going to tell you right now the answer is B. This is an exceptionally difficult question. This is like there are people who uh have taken two semesters of like calculusbased chemistry who won't be able to answer this. Okay, this is one of those brutal questions. I'm calling the impossible questions on the TE's. It's chemistry. It's a challenge topic. Um it is about Lalier's principle. If you know LSAL's principle, you may be able to eliminate some of the answer choices. But even if you know it, it's still really, really hard. It's still really, really hard. And that's just to show this is all about doing your best and staying cool when you see these impossible questions. There will be questions you can't answer. This was not unscored. This was like an impossible, crazy hard, brutal question that was not unscored. There will be scored questions that are hard, but you can still get them wrong and you can still get a good passing score. Okay, I want to say that again. They will be hard questions on the test. Even if they are scored, you can get them wrong. And if you focus on the high priority topics, you'll still be able to get usually a good passing score. So, if you did get it right, overall one point, chemistry, one point.

49. A coin would most likely weigh 5 kilograms, 5 g, 5 milligrams, or 5 pounds. And the answer here is five gram. This is scientific reasoning when we're talking about the different units, grams, kilograms, milligrams, pounds. That's scientific reasoning. It's a high priority topic. They like talking about these units. And what you need to know for questions like this is you want to know the size of the common units. What do I mean when I say size of common units? Well, for example, you want to know that like a paper clip weighs about one gram. Okay, that's what I mean by size of common units. So now you know what a gram is about as much as a paperclip weighs. So for all the common units, you know, pounds, kilograms, meters, and so forth, you want to know the size of them. So if the tease is like, what would be the most appropriate unit to measure this thing in, you can be like, oh, it would be meters, it would be kilograms, you know, whatever. If you got it right, one point overall, one point sign of arising.

Okay, last one. 50. Which statement correctly compares PH6 to pH3? PH6 has a thousand times higher H+ concentration? PH6 has three times higher H+ concentration. PH6 has a thousand times higher O minus concentration. PH6 has three times higher O minus concentration. The correct answer for the last question of this test is C. PH6 has a thousand times higher O minus concentration. This is chemistry. This is a high priority essential topic. Remember I said pH acids and bases pH this kind of thing is so important for chemistry for A and P for life science for scientific reasoning. So for questions like this, you want to know obviously basics foundations of the, you know, acids and bases, pH scale and stuff like that. You also want to know how the pH scale is affected by the concentration of H+ no H minus ions. And you want to know how much things change as you go from one pH number to another. So when you go from, you know, PH6 to pH3, how things change. I can almost guarantee you'll see a question like this on the TE's. Make sure you know how to answer it. If you got it right, great. One point overall, one point chemistry, and that is the end of our test. Okay.

I'm not just going to throw a bunch of definitions at you. We're going to go step by step and I'm point out the stuff that you need to know. We're going to practice it patiently until it sticks in your mind like glue. Okay, let's score the test now.

Okay, here's what we're going to do. Remember, we had those five columns you've been adding up. Okay, we're going to start with the overall score. Okay, you're going to count up the total points you earned and put that in the overall column. Then you're going to divide by 44. You're going to round this and multiply by 100. Let me show you what I mean by this. Okay, so let's say that you got 33 33 total points in the overall. you do 33 divided by 44 and then that's going to give you 0.72727. Okay, round that to two digits. Okay, so we take, you know, seven and two, we round the two up. 0.73. We multiply that by 100, we get 73% as the final score. So follow this. Do do the math and you'll figure out what your overall score will be. Okay, this gives you the overall score. divide by 44. The number you got correct. Now, let's do the different topics. Okay, A and P. Count up the total points you earned in the A&P column. Put it right there. Divide by 18. Round to two digits. Times 100 gives you the percentage. Life science. Total points in the life science column divided by nine. Round to two digits. Times 100 gives you the percentage. Chemistry score chemistry column divided by eight round to two digits percentage scientific reasoning overall divided by nine round to two digits final score. Okay, so that's how you can calculate your final score for each one of those sections. And again, if you're feeling overwhelmed, you're worried about it, don't worry. Your score can go up.
