1944: The Secret Deal That Made America Rich! (And everyone else poor)

The Rich Dad Channel2:53

Transcription

Your grandparents got scammed in 1944, and you're still paying for it.

July 1944. 730 people from 44 countries walk into a luxury hotel in New Hampshire. And only one country walks out richer. And it wasn't an accident. That was by design. Here's what happened.

Europe was destroyed by the war. Asia was in ruins. But America, America had 75% of the world's gold. So they wrote the rules. The deal was simple. The US dollar became the global currency. Every country pegged to the dollar. And America promised you could swap your dollars for real gold at any time. $35 for 1 ounce.

This was the whole trick. Because here's what nobody saw coming. America could print dollars, and the world had to accept them. France needed oil. They needed dollars. Japan wanted to trade. They needed dollars. Germany rebuilding, they needed dollars. Every country had to earn dollars. But America, they just turned on the printer. This is called exorbitant privilege. And it's the biggest financial hack in human history.

But here's where it gets crazy. The world needed more and more dollars to trade. So America kept printing and printing and printing. But remember the promise? Every $35 could be swapped for gold. Except now they were printing way more dollars than they had gold for. It's like writing checks when your bank account is empty.

And in 1965, France noticed. The president looked at America's gold vault and said, "Hold on. You don't have enough gold for all these dollars you're printing." So France showed up and said, "Give us our gold back. All of it." Then Japan did it. Germany did it. Switzerland did it. And America's gold was disappearing fast.

So on August 15th, 1971, President Nixon went on live TV and said, "We're breaking the deal. No more gold backing." That system ended that day, and the world woke up holding paper dollars backed by nothing.

But here's the insane part. The dollar is still the world's reserve currency. Even though America broke the promise, even though it's backed by literally nothing. Why? Because the world is trapped. Oil is priced in dollars. Global trade runs on dollars. And countries can't escape, even if they want to.

And every time America prints trillions, your savings lose value. Your paycheck buys less, and you pay for their privilege. So, here's what this means for you. Saving cash long-term, you're losing. The system is designed to devalue it. The smart move is holding assets that survive currency games: real estate, businesses, gold, things that hold real value. The deal from 1944 never ended. It just got worse. You need to stop playing a rigged game and start protecting what you earn.
