My grandparents, they had the fourth dishwasher in Wales, okay? That was a massive status symbol then if they'd wanted to be. I mean, they just loved practical gadgetry and this thing was the price of a car, practically.
But a dishwasher is a real thing. It's a transformational brilliant idea which It's a technology which if yours broke, you would immediately set about getting it fixed. You wouldn't go, "I'm perfectly happy for 4 weeks without a dishwasher." Would you really?
So, part of the reason the American dream was a dream was that you were enjoying it while everybody else was having a nightmare. So, you know, no one's going to dispute the fact that a car is a is a big thing, okay?

>> No one's disputing the fact that a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge is a huge thing.
>> And now we don't have that anymore.

>> And so we're a little upset that we don't have that anymore.
>> the difference between what rich people can do and what poorer people can do. And until someone invents something really weird, I mean, maybe there is some strange like one-person self-flying [music] drone that I can climb in and I can get to work and land on the roof, you know, 20 minutes from Sevenoaks. And that costs 90,000 quid or 150,000 [music] quid.
Now, actually, what Silicon Valley will do is it will uberize that technology. It won't actually [music] sell it to me.

>> just I mean, Uber Lux is an extraordinary [music] thing, by the way. Do you Do you ever use it?
>> I have used it, yeah.
>> Yeah. But for a little bit more than a black cab, you get an S-Class Mercedes turning up. It's not something you'd use [music] every day, but it's essentially a chauffeur when you want one for 20 or 30 quid.
In many cases, the rich funded the early development of things like washing machines, televisions, radios. And then eventually, those things through mass manufacture became more and more affordable over time.
