From Abu Hurairah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: "When Ramadan enters, the gates of Paradise are opened, and the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained."

These are three things that happen in Ramadan: the gates of Paradise are opened, encouraging those who strive for it with abundant acts of obedience, such as prayer, charity, remembrance, and recitation of the Quran, and other good deeds.

And the gates of Hellfire are closed, due to the decrease in sins during this month from the believers.

And the devils are chained, meaning the rebellious ones among the devils are restrained, as stated in another narration.
