My husband grinds every single day and never complains. You want to know why? I'm not kidding. He does not care if he works all day and has to protect, provide, and deal with my crazy ass 24/7. How? Well, he has a massive return of investment that keeps him motivated. And I am not talking about money. You want to know what that is? Let me tell you.
Before he wakes up every single morning, I leave him a note on the fridge on this little whiteboard that we have in cute little writing telling him how much I love him. That is the first thing that he reads every morning. Then his coffee with his protein shake is ready in the fridge. I also make him his breakfast, his lunch, his dinner. He doesn't have to do the dishes. I don't care if he does them anyway. He doesn't have to help with the laundry. And again, I don't care if he does it anyway. He does not have to worry about anything around the house and he gets his recognition. He gets his respect and he gets laid whenever the heck he wants to.
And I can't wait to give him all of that because if a man doesn't see his home as a place for him to breathe, a place where his effort is acknowledged or a place where he gets what he needs as a man, eventually that man who grinds, protects, and provides is going to burn out. And when that happens, one of two things will happen. He will become angry and distant, or he will completely shut down and withdraw from the relationship. Not under my watch.
Here's the truth. He communicates with me what he wants and what he needs. He communicates to me how he feels, and he communicates what he expects of me. And if you're not doing that with your wife, you're going to end up blaming each other or her for how you feel at home. Your home is your kingdom, and your kingdom is your responsibility. Set the rules of your kingdom. Don't let her figure it out alone because she can't.
