There is a great difference between knowing about God and understanding what God has placed inside you through Jesus Christ. Many believers spend their lives praying for victory while carrying the authority that heaven has already given them. And today you are about to discover a truth that can completely transform the way you pray, speak, fight spiritual battles, and walk through every season of life.
Perhaps you have faced moments when fear whispered louder than faith, when problems appeared bigger than God's promises, or when the enemy tried to convince you that you were powerless. Yet the word of God reveals something extraordinary. You are not called to live as a defeated child begging for permission to overcome, but as a redeemed believer who has been entrusted with spiritual authority through Jesus Christ.
Before we go deeper, prepare your heart because this message is not merely information. It is a revelation that can awaken your confidence in Christ, strengthen your faith, silence fear, and remind you that the one who lives within you is greater than every force that rises against you. The Bible says in Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
These words were not spoken to frighten believers, but to assure them that Jesus has already provided authority for those who belong to him. The authority of the believer does not begin with your strength. It begins with the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, where he defeated sin, death, and the powers of darkness through his sacrifice and glorious resurrection. When Jesus rose from the grave, he demonstrated that every enemy had already been conquered. His victory became your victory when you placed your faith in him, and that changes everything about how you should approach life.
Many believers confuse authority with personal power. Authority is not about how strong you are. It is about whose name you carry and whose kingdom you represent. Think about a police officer directing traffic. The officer may not be physically stronger than the vehicles approaching, but the authority behind the uniform causes drivers to stop because the authority comes from the government, not from physical ability. In the same way, your spiritual authority does not come from your emotions, your experience, or your personality. It comes from Jesus Christ, the King of kings, whose name is above every name. Philippians [clears throat] chapter 2 reminds you that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. That includes fear, discouragement, temptation, oppression, anxiety, and every scheme of the enemy.
This does not mean believers will never face battles. It means you face every battle from the position of Christ's victory, rather than from the position of defeat. Too often the enemy succeeds because believers surrender mentally before the battle even begins. He whispers lies until people forget who they are in Christ. But the word of God tells you in Romans chapter 8 that you are more than a conqueror through him who loved you. Notice that scripture does not say you might become a conqueror one day. It declares your identity today.
Authority must be exercised to be effective. A believer who never uses the authority God has given is like someone who owns a key but never opens the door. This is why your words matter. Proverbs teaches that life and death are in the power of the tongue, reminding you that your speech should agree with God's promises rather than the enemy's accusations. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, he did not argue with Satan using personal opinions. He answered every temptation with the authority of God's word by declaring, "It is written." That example teaches you something powerful. The word of God is one of the greatest expressions of your spiritual authority because it reveals the will of the king whom you serve. You do not need to invent new truth. You simply stand upon the eternal truth that has already been established by God himself.
Ephesians chapter 6 describes the armor of God because believers are engaged in spiritual warfare. Yet among all the armor, the sword of the spirit represents the word of God showing that truth is your offensive weapon. Fear loses its grip when faith begins to speak. Darkness retreats when light enters the room. The enemy wants you to believe that your prayers accomplish very little. Heaven declares that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective because God responds to faith.
Authority also requires obedience. Walking in rebellion while expecting spiritual authority produces confusion because authority flows through a life that willingly submits to God's leadership. James chapter 4 gives a beautiful order. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Notice that scripture does not say you must flee from the devil. It says the devil must flee from the believer who stands firm in submission to God. That truth should fill your heart with confidence. The enemy is not greater than your savior and darkness cannot overpower the light of Christ.
Sometimes the greatest battle is not around you, but within you. Doubt, insecurity, guilt and shame attempt to rob you of the confidence that belongs to those who have been forgiven through Christ. The cross settled your identity. If God has called you his child, you must refuse every voice that tries to redefine who you are. Remember David standing before Goliath. Everyone else saw an unbeatable giant, but David saw an uncircumcised Philistine standing against the living God. David understood that authority belongs to those who trust the Lord. He did not depend upon impressive weapons because his confidence rested in God's power. The same principle applies to your life today. You may face challenges that appear enormous, but no problem is greater than the authority of Jesus Christ working through a surrendered believer.
Never allow your circumstances to determine your confidence. Allow God's promises to shape your expectation. When Jesus spoke the words found in Luke chapter 10 verse 19, he was not making an empty promise to impress his disciples. He was revealing a spiritual reality that every believer who belongs to him must understand if they are going to live a victorious Christian life. The verse says, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
Every single word in this statement carries tremendous weight, and every phrase deserves careful attention because Jesus was speaking with divine authority. The verse begins with one powerful word, "Behold." This is more than an invitation to look with your natural eyes because Jesus was calling his disciples to pay close attention to a truth that would shape their entire ministry. Whenever scripture says, "Behold," heaven is asking you not to rush past what is about to be said. It is as though Jesus is saying, "Stop everything for a moment because I am about to reveal something that will completely change the way you see your spiritual life."
Then Jesus says, "I give unto you power." The authority comes from him, not from human effort, not from religious traditions, not from personal achievements, and certainly not from human emotions. Notice that Jesus did not say, "You will eventually discover this power on your own." He declared that he himself was giving it to his followers, meaning that this authority is a gift flowing from his grace and his victory.
The original language presents an important distinction that many believers overlook. Jesus was speaking about delegated authority, which means the right to act on behalf of someone greater than yourself. This is the same principle that operates in earthly kingdoms. An ambassador speaks with authority because he represents the government that sent him, and his words carry the weight of the nation behind him. You are Christ's ambassador in this world. When you stand upon God's word and walk in obedience, you are not standing alone because heaven stands behind the authority of Jesus Christ.
Think about that for a moment. Every prayer you pray in faith, every truth you declare from scripture, and every act of obedience becomes an expression of the authority Christ has entrusted to his people. Jesus continues by saying that believers will tread on serpents and scorpions. This statement has often been misunderstood because Jesus was not encouraging his followers to search for dangerous animals to prove their faith. Throughout scripture, serpents frequently represent deception, Satan's influence, and the destructive work of darkness. From the Garden of Eden to the Book of Revelation, the serpent is consistently associated with the enemy's attempts to oppose God's purposes. Scorpions also represent painful attacks, hidden dangers, and spiritual oppression. Their sting reminds us that the enemy often seeks to wound believers in ways that are not immediately visible.
Jesus was painting a vivid spiritual picture. He was declaring that the forces of darkness would not ultimately triumph over those who remain faithful to him. Notice the imagery of treading upon them. To tread upon something means that it is beneath your feet rather than above your head. That is an incredible picture of spiritual authority. The enemy desperately wants believers to think they are beneath his power, but Jesus declares exactly the opposite. Far too many Christians spend their lives running from battles that Christ has already equipped them to face. Fear becomes their daily companion because they have forgotten what Jesus has already spoken over their lives. The authority of the believer does not eliminate spiritual warfare. Instead, it changes your position within the battle because you fight from Christ's victory rather than striving to earn one.
Jesus then says something remarkable. He declares that believers have authority over all the power of the enemy. Notice the word all. Jesus did not leave room for exceptions, hidden categories, or secret limitations that the enemy could exploit. Every demonic strategy remains subject to the authority of Jesus Christ. Every lie, every temptation, every scheme, every accusation, and every attempt to discourage God's people must bow before his supreme authority. This does not mean believers become careless or spiritually proud. It means they become confident in Christ while remaining completely dependent upon him. There is a significant difference between confidence and arrogance. Confidence says that Christ is able, while arrogance says that you are able apart from him, the authority of the believer is never independent from the Lord. The moment you disconnect yourself from Christ, you are attempting to fight battles without the one who gives victory. That is exactly why Jesus said in John chapter 15 that apart from him you can do nothing. Every expression of genuine authority flows from intimate fellowship with the savior.
Now let us connect this wonderful truth with the book of Ephesians. One of the greatest themes running throughout Ephesians is the believer's position in Christ rather than merely the believer's performance. Paul continually reminds the church that before you can live differently, you must first understand who you are because of Jesus. Identity always comes before activity in the kingdom of God. Consider Ephesians chapter 1 verse 19 through verse 23. Paul begins praying that believers would understand the exceeding greatness of God's power toward those who believe. Notice that Paul does not pray for believers to receive a completely different power. He prays that they would understand the power that is already working within them through Christ. Many believers ask God to give them what he has already provided. The greater need is often revelation rather than additional provision.
Paul continues by explaining that this is the same mighty power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Think carefully about that astonishing truth. The resurrection power of God is the greatest demonstration of divine authority in history. Death itself could not resist the command of almighty God. Sin had been defeated, Satan had been defeated, and the grave itself had been defeated because Jesus rose in glorious triumph. Paul then declares that Christ has been seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly places. This position speaks of completed victory, perfect authority, and eternal dominion. Then Paul says that Christ is far above all principality, power, might, dominion, and every name that can be named. There is no spiritual force that exists outside his authority. Notice the words far above. Christ is not barely above the enemy, nor is he engaged in an endless struggle for supremacy. Jesus reigns with absolute authority. There has never been a moment when darkness threatened his throne or challenged his sovereignty. Then Paul says that God placed all things under his feet. This language echoes the promise found throughout scripture that every enemy ultimately submits to God's authority.
Now comes one of the most beautiful connections to Luke chapter 10 verse 19. Paul immediately begins speaking about the church as the body of Christ. If Christ is the head and believers are his body, then where is the body positioned? The body shares in the victory of its head. Because believers are united with Christ, this truth becomes even clearer in Ephesians chapter 2 verse 6. Paul declares that God has raised believers up together and made them sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Do not miss the significance of that statement. Paul is describing your spiritual position rather than your physical location. You still live on Earth, but your identity is rooted in Christ's heavenly victory. Your authority flows from your union with the one who reigns forever.
Far too many believers pray as though they are trying to persuade a reluctant God to help them. Ephesians reminds you that you approach God as his beloved child through the finished work of Christ. When you understand your position in Christ, your prayers begin to change. Instead of praying from fear, you pray from faith because you know whose presence you are entering.
Consider Ephesians chapter 6, where Paul instructs believers to put on the whole armor of God. This passage is not teaching fearful survival, but confident spiritual readiness. The armor belongs to God because the battle belongs to God. Every piece of armor points you back to Christ and his finished work. The belt of truth reminds you to reject every lie that contradicts God's word. The enemy's greatest weapon has always been deception because deception weakens confidence in God's promises. The breastplate of righteousness reminds you that your standing before God rests upon Christ's righteousness. Condemnation loses its grip when you remember that you have been justified through faith. Your feet are fitted with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Wherever you walk, you carry the message of reconciliation, hope, and salvation. The shield of faith extinguishes the fiery darts of the enemy. Notice that Paul does not say the enemy stops shooting arrows because faith is what enables you to stand firm when attacks come. The helmet of salvation guards your mind. Your thoughts become protected when your identity remains anchored in the saving work of Jesus Christ. Then Paul speaks of the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. This is the only offensive weapon mentioned because truth defeats lies every single time. Jesus himself demonstrated this in the wilderness. Every temptation from Satan was answered with a simple yet powerful declaration, "It is written." The authority of the believer is inseparable from the word of God. You cannot exercise biblical authority while neglecting the very word through which God reveals his will. Every promise you read strengthens your faith. Every command you obey deepens your maturity, and every truth you believe weakens the enemy's influence over your thinking. Remember that Satan does not primarily fear loud voices. He fears believers who know the scriptures, believe the scriptures, and confidently declare the scriptures under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
When Luke chapter 10:19 and the book of Ephesians are brought together, a magnificent picture emerges. Jesus gives you authority, and Ephesians explains the position from which that authority flows. You stand in Christ. You walk in Christ. You pray in Christ. You serve in Christ, and you overcome in Christ because every spiritual blessing, every victory, every promise, and every expression of divine authority is found in him alone. Therefore, refuse to live beneath what God has declared over your life. Lift your eyes to Jesus. Anchor your heart in his word. Remember your position in him, and walk every day with humble confidence knowing that the authority entrusted to you is never for self-exaltation, but for glorifying Christ, advancing his kingdom, resisting the works of darkness, encouraging the saints, proclaiming the gospel, and demonstrating to a broken world that Jesus Christ is Lord over all.
You have not listened to this message by accident. The Holy Spirit has been reminding you that you are not a powerless believer trying to survive the attacks of the enemy, but a redeemed child of God who has been given authority through the finished work of Jesus Christ. The days of living beneath fear, intimidation, and spiritual confusion must come to an end. God is calling you to stand upon his word, to walk in confidence, and to exercise the authority that belongs to every believer who remains in Christ. The enemy has spent years attempting to convince many believers that they are weak, forgotten, and defeated. Yet, the word of God declares something entirely different because heaven identifies you by the victory of Jesus rather than by the battles you have faced. This is your moment to believe what God has spoken instead of what circumstances have been shouting. When God's truth becomes greater than your fear, your life begins to reflect the victory that Christ has already won.
The [clears throat] same Jesus who declared in Luke chapter 10 verse 19 that he has given authority over all the power of the enemy has not changed. His authority remains complete, his promises remain faithful, and his power remains available to every believer who trusts him. Therefore, do not leave this message as a hearer only. Leave this message determined to become a believer who walks boldly in obedience, speaks the word with confidence, prays with unwavering faith, and glorifies Jesus Christ in every area of life. The Lord is looking for believers who know who they are in him. He is raising men and women who refuse to bow before fear because they have already bowed before the King of kings. Walk with holy confidence, but never with pride. Remember always that your authority flows from your relationship with Christ, your obedience to his word, and your complete dependence upon the Holy Spirit. The battles may continue, but your identity has already been settled in heaven. Christ has called you, equipped you, and empowered you to stand, and his grace will sustain you until the very end.
Right now, [clears throat] wherever you are, present yourself before the Lord with a humble and believing heart. Ask him to deepen your understanding of his word, strengthen your faith, and teach you to walk daily in the authority he has graciously given through Jesus Christ. Do not merely ask God to change your circumstances. Ask him to transform your understanding so that your life reflects the confidence, obedience, holiness, and spiritual maturity of someone who truly knows Christ.
Heavenly Father, >> [clears throat] >> we come before your glorious throne in the precious and mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We worship you because you alone are holy. You alone are righteous, and you alone are worthy of all glory, honor, dominion, thanksgiving, and everlasting praise. Father, we thank you for your living word that never fails and never returns empty. We thank you because every promise you have spoken remains true. Every purpose you have declared shall stand, and every word that proceeds from your mouth is filled with life, truth, power, and eternal hope.
Lord Jesus, we thank you for the finished work of the cross. We thank you because through your death, burial, and resurrection, you defeated sin, conquered death, disarmed the powers of darkness, and established an everlasting victory for all who place their faith in you. Today we confess that you are Lord above every name and king above every kingdom. We declare that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to you, and we gladly surrender every part of our lives to your loving rule.
Father, forgive us for every moment we have doubted your promises. Forgive us for every time fear spoke louder than faith, every time worry replaced trust, and every time we forgot the authority you have given us through Christ. Wash us completely by the precious blood of Jesus. Cleanse our hearts, renew our minds, purify our motives, and restore within us a steadfast spirit that delights in obeying your holy word.
Lord, open the eyes of our understanding according to the book of Ephesians. Let us truly know the hope of your calling, the riches of your glorious inheritance, and the exceeding greatness of your power toward those who believe. Father, remove every spiritual blindness that has kept us from understanding who we are in Christ. Tear down every stronghold of unbelief, every lie planted by the enemy, and every false identity that has attempted to keep us bound. In the mighty name of Jesus, we reject every voice of condemnation that speaks against your children. We declare that our identity is established in Christ, and we choose to believe what your word says above every feeling and every circumstance.
Lord, teach us to stand firmly upon scripture. Let your word become the foundation of our decisions, the guide for our lives, the strength of our faith, and the sword that we faithfully use against every deception of the enemy. Father, we thank you for the promise found in Luke chapter 10 verse 19. Thank you for entrusting believers with authority over all the power of the enemy through the name of Jesus Christ. Help us never to misuse that authority through pride or selfish ambition. >> [clears throat] >> Teach us to walk with humility, love, wisdom, compassion, and complete dependence upon the Holy Spirit every single day.
Lord, strengthen every believer who feels weak today. Remind them that your strength is made perfect in weakness, and that your grace is always sufficient for every battle they face. We pray for those who have been overwhelmed by fear. Let the perfect love of God drive out every tormenting fear and replace it with unwavering confidence in Christ. We pray for those who have become discouraged because of long seasons of waiting. Renew their hope, strengthen their patience, and remind them that you are faithful even when the journey feels difficult.
Father, break every chain of spiritual intimidation. Let every lie that says your people are powerless be exposed and replaced with the truth of your living word. We pray against every scheme of the enemy that seeks to distract believers from their purpose. Let every assignment of confusion, division, temptation, deception, and despair be brought to nothing by the authority of Jesus Christ. Lord, raise up believers who love righteousness and hate evil. Form within us hearts that desire holiness more than comfort and obedience more than applaud. Teach us to recognize the voice of the good shepherd above every competing voice. Give us discernment so that we may reject deception and faithfully follow your truth.

Let the presence of the Holy Spirit bring comfort where there has been anxiety, unity where there has been division, and hope where there has been despair. Strengthen marriages with sacrificial love and faithfulness. Guide parents with wisdom, protect [clears throat] children with your mighty hand, and let every family become a testimony of your grace.
Lord, bless every servant who faithfully proclaims the gospel. Encourage pastors, missionaries, evangelists, teachers, and every believer who seeks to make Christ known. Give us boldness to share the message of salvation without fear. Let our lives reflect the character of Jesus so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Teach [clears throat] us to pray with confidence instead of hesitation. Teach us to believe your promises instead of magnifying our problems. Help us to remember each day that our authority flows from our relationship with Christ. Keep us close to you so that our confidence is always rooted in your presence and never in ourselves.
Lord, clothe us with the whole armor of God. Let truth surround us, righteousness guard us, peace direct our steps, faith extinguish every fiery dart, salvation protect our minds, and your word remain sharp within our hearts. Strengthen us to resist temptation with the same confidence that Jesus demonstrated in the wilderness. Let your word remain hidden in our hearts so that we may not sin against you.
Father, we pray for those who are battling hidden struggles that no one else can see. Stretch forth your mighty hand to heal wounded hearts, restore weary souls, and renew broken spirits. For those facing impossible situations, remind them that nothing is impossible with you. For those standing before mountains, remind them that you remain the God who moves mountains. Lord, increase our hunger for prayer. Increase our desire to study scripture, to worship sincerely, and to live lives that bring honor to the name of Jesus Christ. Let revival begin within our own hearts before it spreads to our families, our churches, our communities, and the nations. Make us faithful witnesses who reflect the light of Christ wherever you send us.
Father, protect us from spiritual pride even as we grow in spiritual authority. Keep us humble, teachable, and continually aware that every good gift comes from you alone. May our words bring healing instead of harm. May our actions reveal kindness instead of bitterness. And may our lives continually point others toward the savior. Lord Jesus, keep us faithful until the day we see you face-to-face. May we never grow weary in doing good, but remain steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord. We declare by faith that you are our refuge, our fortress, our deliverer, our shepherd, our defender, and our everlasting king. We choose to trust you in every season because your faithfulness endures throughout all generations.
Father, let every person praying today leave with renewed courage, deeper faith, greater understanding of your word, and a fresh determination to walk daily in the authority you have given through Jesus Christ. May our lives continually glorify you, advance your kingdom, encourage the body of Christ, overcome evil with good, and proclaim with unwavering conviction that Jesus Christ alone is Lord now and forever. And in his mighty and matchless name we pray with thanksgiving and joyful expectation. Amen.
