If you've never received the gift of the Holy Ghost with the sign of speaking with other tongues as the spirit of God gives the utterance, we want you to get it today. His presence is in this place right now. The Bible says He inhabits the praises of His people. He moves and responds when we begin to glorify and honor Him. And that's a wonderful thing. But I want to tell you today, it's not just about getting God to fill this room. I want you to put your hand on your chest right here. This is the room He wants to fill. This is the space He wants to occupy today. Pentecost is all about getting the God of the room to fill this room. When you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, He comes and lives inside of you. And that's what we want to take place here today. It's the God, the God of this room today to fill the emptiness and the longing and the void that is inside of you today. God wants to occupy that space. All right, maybe you're here today and you say, Pastor, I've got the baptism of the Holy Ghost, but there's been a lot of things that have filled my room, a lot of distractions, a lot of things that I've allowed to crowd out God. Today, Pentecost Sunday, can also be about evicting some things and letting God move back in to reoccupy the space that only God can fill. [Music] He created that void inside of you. [Music] There could be a string of testimonies that would stand behind this pulpit today and say, I tried it all. I tried money. I tried drugs. I tried relationships. I tried alcohol. I tried to fill that room to bring me peace. I want to save you some time, some heartache today. God, He's the one that created that room and He is the only one that can occupy that room. They'll bring you peace, bring you comfort today. So you need to make up in your mind before I walk out of this service this morning, I'm going to let Him occupy that room. We are so very thankful today and blessed, amen, to have a Bishop Huntley and Sister Huntley with us today. We are beyond honored that they are here. [Music] As the church has grown through the years, this would not have been a a major revelation for many a few years ago, but as the church has grown through the years, many of you may not even realize that everything you see here did not start with me or with my dad or with my grandfather. All of that was wonderful, that was a wonderful personal heritage, but a church being planted in Fuquay Varina was the heartbeat and the vision of Pastor Huntley and his wonderful family, allowing us and releasing us into this city. And so everything that is happening here this morning and all of the subsequent miracles that will take place from now to the rapture, I have my pastor to thank for that and his wife for releasing our family into this city. And now that I am of the age, I'm releasing individuals. I, it's a lot harder than I thought it was. Not necessarily because you hate to lose them, but because of the immense responsibility that you have for their soul. And for Him to allow that to happen. Uh, we are so very grateful. As this church is a daughter work of the Temple of Pentecost, and uh, we're a close family and we love them dearly. He, of course, is also the district superintendent of the North Carolina District here of the United Pentecostal Church, and he is my pastor. And not just a pastor, but he's a mentor and a friend. It is a rare privilege that I get to have and have had many times, just to drive in an old beat-up truck to a deer stand and converse with one of the greatest men of God that have ever strapped on shoe leather. That's a rare privilege. That's a rare person. [Applause] [Music] I am so thankful for him today. I love him today. And this is a high honor for our church today on Pentecost Sunday, amen, to be able to allow the hero of myth of mine and a hero of the faith to minister to you today on this wonderful Pentecost Sunday. What a great, it's just the irony of everyone else celebrating us today is a wonderful thing. I would hate to be anywhere else other than a Pentecostal church on Pentecost Sunday. [Music] Hey, I love birthday parties, but I like celebrating my own birthday. [Music] I'm celebrating what should happen every single Sunday. We got three older Pastor Huntley and Sister Huntley here today. Please give them a warm Fuquay Varina welcome as he comes to minister to you today. And everybody said, praise the Lord. [Music] I do appreciate the kind words of Pastor Landtroop has spoken here today. I receive them gracefully. I receive them humbly. I receive them in his attempt to express his heart. Although it may be a bit biased and exaggerated, I give him credit for uh, his attempt to make me feel good, and he's done that today. It's a joy to stand here in this pulpit. We may have had the initial passion, burden to start a church, but I'm here to tell you, what's in this room today came out of this man's heart, and you need to celebrate that. [Music] I have never seen a church blessed without a pastor and a message for another day. I've never seen churches blessed where the pastor wasn't blessed first. The blessing that comes to the church comes through the pastor. So give your pastor a great big hand clap of appreciation today. [Music] With such a marvelous congregation of people. What a great gathering of people here today. Give yourselves a great handclap for being in church. [Music] I was telling the ministerial staff and the aspiring ministers in a meeting earlier this morning that if Pastor Balostero was preaching here today, referencing brother Landtroop and the family that's here, he would say, we love the Landtroops, they're just like family. He says that when his mom and dad comes visit our church all the time. Oh, we're so glad to have the Balosteros here today. They are just like family. Well, this morning, just like family, it is family, and we're very, very thrilled. I want to tell you that I'm excited about what God has done through the life of pastors Rodney Landtroop, his consistency, his devotion, his commitment, his faithfulness, all of it is admirable. His love for truth and his love for you, so very admirable. Let me greet all of our friends, perhaps we haven't seen in some time. We're so glad you're in church here today. So happy that you're here to worship the Lord with us. [Music] And to the ministerial staff that makes up this church, God bless all the ministry that serves here faithfully with Pastor Lantry. Thank you. [Music] I am going to go a bit old school today. First of all, I do say I'm glad to have my wife with me in church. Much of the time when I preach, she's not there. [Music] But you know, the distance from our house to this church is not very far. Matter of fact, if we were Catholic, I'd have to leave the Temple of Pentecost, come here because my home is more in this parish, in this community. But uh, it's great to be here today and I'm glad that my wife has come to join me in service here this morning. What a privilege it is to be in the house of the Lord. I'm gonna go and be an old school. So the way I preach may be a little different than what we culturally right now are acquainted with, but it's what I feel in the Holy Ghost. Not knowing who would be here, not knowing the the spirit that would be in this place, and I want to commend you for your great worship team, your great spirit of worship. Everything's been remarkable, and I salute you for that. So since it's Pentecost Sunday, let's go home on Pentecost Sunday. I know that some of you will struggle to find my text because you read it so much. The page may be torn out of your Bible. It may not even be there. But if you can find it in your Bible, please turn to Acts chapter 2 and verse 38. Since it's Pentecost Sunday, what else could I preach but Pentecost? [Music] Acts chapter 2, verse number 38. Why don't you read it or quote it? I know there's outstanding Bible quizzers here. Bible quiz and has blessed my ministry. How would Bible quiz bless your ministry? I never was a Bible quizzer. I wish we would have had Bible quizzing, man. I would have loved that when I was a teenager to be in Bible quizzing. But uh, Bible quizzes blessed my Ministry because when you quote scripture anymore, you got to be careful because these kids know it. And what do they say? What what's that? What that their response is incorrect? What's the words they use? That is incorrect. So what I'm preaching this morning, I don't see kids that that is incorrect. I don't want to see kids shaking it. That is incorrect. I want to be right. So that's everybody fervently from our hearts, quote it, read it, and let's say this word from the Lord. Ready? Acts 2:38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. And I first do that one more time. And I'd like for us to dedicate it to the devil. I won't hail to hear this this morning. There's still a church that believes in the original message of Bible salvation. Sometimes people say Acts 2:38 is the biblical formula for full Bible salvation. I want to say it's the biblical formula for salvation. It's the only gospel that saves from sin. As I will preach this morning, one more time, we dedicate this to the devil with fervency. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. If you've obeyed that verse of scripture, would you clap your hands to the Lord right now? [Applause] And the church said, amen. God bless you. You may be seated this morning. I want to preach on this subject, Pentecost, when? Pentecost, when? Recently, I was reading Acts 2:38 again, and it leaped from the pages into my spirit. My whole message will be predicated upon one word. Acts 2:38 starts, then. When I see the word, then, I have to ask, when? Then Peter said unto them. We most often and commonly preach about the what of Pentecost, which is the birthday of the New Testament Church. We celebrate December 25th as a celebration of the earthly body on earth of Christ. That's not when it happened, but that's when we celebrate it. And I'm glad that there is a day that's nationally, internationally recognized to celebrate the birth of Christ. For those of you that know me, indulge me to share with you, it really isn't the birth of Christ, but it really is my birthday. My birthday, December 25th. Friend of mine claims this. I kind of doubt it. Pastor, brother Charlie Mahaney said he was in court one day and the judge asked him, when's your birthday? I'll make him his birthday. He's like, July the 3rd. The judge said, what year? He said, every year. So my birthday, it's December the 25th, every year. Every year. So I'm kind of outstaged, overshadowed, and forgotten, except for my wonderful wife, that my birthday is December the 25th. The who of Pentecost, which is about the approximate 120 that were in the upper room. The where of Pentecost, which was in the upper room in Jerusalem. But today, on this very special date of celebrating the birth of the New Testament Church, with this audience that I believe God Almighty handpicked to bring here to hear the word of the Lord, let me say to you, I've changed my opinion. I used to say the most important part of church. Bear with me. Don't embarrass yourself. There's a trap. The most important part of church is the preaching. But I've come to understand the praying, the preaching, the preliminaries, the singing, the worship, none of that is the most important part of church. The most important part of church is your response. [Applause] The most important part of church is what you're going to do with the prayers you've heard. What you do with the singing you've heard. What you do with the preaching that you heard. That's the most important part of church. It's going to happen in 30 minutes or less. We're going to open up the altar. Somebody's going to get back to God. Somebody's going to get renewed in the Holy Ghost. Somebody's going to have the baptism of the spirit for the first time. Clap your hands if you'll share that passion with me. Pentecost, when? I am not referencing by when the calendar date of 33 A.D. or 50 days after Pentecost or after Passover, but rather something far more serious and significant. This is the culture that we're living in right now, and this is what I want to address. Our religious world has sought to reduce the happenings of this most phenomenal day to a shallow, silly spiritual trinket or spiritual toy for the entertainment and pleasure of the flesh. There is all of that in our assembly, but we don't come to church here just because it's more exciting than somewhere else. We don't come to church here just because the music is better than somewhere else. We don't come to church here just because you may be tired and worn out, but you ain't going to sleep in this service this morning because somebody besides is going to be shouting Hallelujah. The preacher's got the PA turned up and the music's loud. Somebody's going to be dancing, bumping into you. But we're not here just because it's more energetic or more exciting or moral attitude of celebration. I will explain that momentarily. So Pentecost has been attacked with a spirit of reduction to something that is very silly, Gideon, funny, hilarious, light, trite, insignificant. There's more to that than this. There's even more to Acts 2:38. That Peter's response to the crowd that day, a convicted crowd, a confused crowd, spitting, brethren, what shall we do? What must we do? That answer that Peter gave that day is far greater than a momentary result to a convicted crowd on a particular day that I will show you. I want to reveal to you today the wind of Pentecost in light of scripture, eschatology, and chronology. Pentecost, when? Here it is, when four thousand years of Old Testament history documented humanity's feudal failure to spiritual transformation and regeneration and restoration for their spiritual sin-stained souls that had separated them from God. You got to understand, the Old Testament was 4,000 years of man trying to get back to God. 4,000 years of man's fleshly feudal attempt to get back to a spiritual experience with the Lord. But I'm going to show you and get ahead of myself just a moment to let you know after 4,000 years of man's attempt, it all failed. Every aspect of man's attempt to get to God failed. Every attitude, every attempt. I just want to cut through the chase and tell you today, you could try all you want, but you can't get to Him. But there ain't a devil in hell. There ain't a sin in your soul. There ain't a problem in this world that can keep Him from getting to you. When you can't get to Him, He can get to you. Thank you. Notice with me now, Pentecost, when? Everybody say, when? When Adam and Eve's big leaves of camouflage cover up for sin was unaccepted and brought about the exile of humanity from the peaceful presence of God. When Noah's masterfully crafted ship of salvation could only be a haven of safety for eight people out of eight generations. As supernatural as that ark was, as phenomenal as Noah was, and the Bible said he was a preacher of righteousness. After all of those years of being ridiculed, laughed and mocked while he built an ark where it had never rained, there'd been no rain, the Earth was moist with a dew that came up. They didn't know what rain was. And here's this crazy preacher saying, I'm building this boat because it's fixing to come a flood that's going to wash sinners away and your only hope is going to be in this boat that I'm building. And to make it even more complicated, God only told Noah that the flood was coming and told him once that for over a hundred years, Noah worked on a one-word message from God. Even then, only eight souls were saved. There was a man in the Old Testament. I didn't research it. You can check it out. I'm not exactly sure, maybe somewhere close, but his name is called Methuselah. You ever heard anybody say, well, that's as old as Methuselah? The reason they say that is because Methuselah was the oldest human being to ever live. He lived out, he outlived every other human being that's ever lived. And I think I'm right. I stand to be convicted, but I believe it was 969 years that Methuselah lived. But here's the catch to that man. His name meant, at his death, it shall come. That's why he lived longer than anybody else because judgment was coming. When Methuselah died, when Methuselah died, the flood came. But God gave them 969 years to get ready because a flood was coming. But even then, only eight souls were saved. The Tower of Babel, with its masterful construction, God himself complemented humanity. He said, what they have decided to do, what they have joined to do, there is nothing that can stop them. Remember, we're made in the image of a Creator. And so when man coins together in unity, there are no limits to what a man can create. As a matter of fact, God complimented him greatly by saying, the only thing that can stop them is me. Myself and God came down and caused them to have dispersion of language to where they couldn't understand each other anymore, and the building lay in ruin and incompletion because they were trying to save themselves without God. That's what the Tower of Babel, which means confusion, was all about. It was man trying to save himself without God. Let me pause long enough to tell you, you can't save yourself without God. You can't get good enough to get God. You just got to come to God and tell Him, I'm a sorry, low-down rat sinner and I need salvation and I need forgiveness, and God will save you. Man's attempt to save himself without God ended in judgment. When angels from a holy heaven visited the perverted, sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah with a path of escape from God's impending wrath, the result, only Lot and his wife and his three sons and their wives were laid out. What a minimal result from a message that was delivered by angels. Only Lot, his wife, three sons, and their wives. And even then, on the way out, Lot's wife looked back, turned into a pillar of salt because she was disobedient to the Lord. I mean, what does it take to get somebody's attention? This place is getting ready to be burned up and angels are moving through telling everybody, you got to get out of here, but even then, it was just one family in their relationship. When the precision and perfection of the ceremonies and the rigidness of the commands of the Old Testament Tabernacle plan with a flood of blood from animal sacrifices could only roll sins ahead for a year, never being able to remit them, concluding with this caption on the epitaph of the tombstone of the Old Testament. This is how the Old Testament ended. Second Chronicles 36 and 15. And the Lord God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up the times, sending because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, they despised his words, they misused his prophets until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people. Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, this is how the Old Testament ended. Sad epitaph upon humanity's frail failure to get right with God till there was no remedy. The Old Testament ended with absolutely no remedy for sin. Then the Bible documents a virgin conceived, brought forth a savior. God's attempt to save is getting more strong. It's getting more radical. It's getting more personal. It's getting even greater. That a savior who was worshiped by shepherds and wise men, who turned water into wine, calmed raging storms, walked on the water, healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, brought the dead back to life. But the scriptures say at the conclusion of all of that, He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. They cried, let Him be crucified. They smote Him with a whip of nine lashes, 39 times. They placed a cross on his back, followed his blood trail on the Via Dolorosa to the place of the skull. They watched Him hang, nailed to that cross for six hours. They placed Him into a borrowed tomb. Three days later, He resurrected. 40 days later, He ascended from Earth's mission with nothing but scars to show He had come. Nothing but nail prints in His hand and a hole in His side. But seven days later, after the 40 days of manifesting Himself alive, came Pentecost, 50 days after Passover. And when all of this had transpired, when all of that had failed, the Bible reads, then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, it's to your children, to them that are for all, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. This is what I want you to see this morning. In a few serious moments of consideration, Pentecost is not just blue skies over Carolina with a bright, brilliant sunshine, but in the midst of that day, there's a dark cloud that looms over Pentecost, and this is it. Pentecost is God's last radical reach, final attempt for the redemption of humanity. And that's why it came with fire. That's why it came with wind. That's why there were tongues. That's why there's spiritual intoxication. That's why it was noise to brawl. And that's why a crowd came screaming, men and brethren, what meaneth this? God is getting desperate to save humanity. God is getting desperate to redeem humanity. God is putting on the Fourth of July celebration fireworks, hoping that somebody will see it, somebody will feel it, somebody will be moved by it and realize this is getting serious. Thank you. Pentecost is God's final, desperate, dynamic demonstration for the salvation of humanity. And here's what I rise to preach to you. If Pentecost can't convince you, convict you, convert you, ladies and gentlemen, there is nothing else. Yeah, there is nothing else. Somebody shot him in. So I'm preaching. If Pentecost can't deliver you, if Pentecost can't kick the devil out of your life, if Pentecost can't give you power over your fallen flesh, if Pentecost can't set you free from your torture of sinful addictions, if Pentecost can't make you whole and give you peace, there is nothing else. I was there in the hospital room when the doctors told the Goeters about their daughter Lisa. She had Reye's syndrome, I think was the name of the disease she had. And the doctor said, we've tried everything to help her. She's in serious trouble. There's only one thing else, and this is it.
