Institute of Psychoanalysis1:18

Transcription

[Music] thank you for Anna Freud aggression like sexuality is an inbuilt instinctual force that may be used healthily or pathologically. she said that aggression comes to the aid either constructively or destructively of purposes such as Vengeance, War, honor, Mercy, Mastery, etc. I.E. in the service of aims which are dictated either by the ego or superego.

aggression is essential for psychic growth. the healthy development of the self, the capacity to separate and individuate, to apply oneself to tasks, to stand up for and protect oneself and others, to have mature relationships, to make love all require some regressive activity.

but if the force of the aggressive Drive is fueled by anxiety, pain, and frustration, this can lead to an unhealthy and destructive use of aggression.
