What are you up to? Hello my loves and welcome to this, a little bit special video that I'm doing that will only be about this huge thing that has happened in my life. As you can see, I have got a new family member, and she is right now sleeping here beside me after being out playing in the garden for a while. Well, I am a bit overwhelmed by all the emotions and a bit up in the clouds. This is so wonderful and I'm so happy and so touched by this whole thing. And she is... she's the cutest. I love her so much already. And I just felt like I wanted to make a little video just sharing about her and how she came into my life.
So to begin with, this is Lumi. She's a 8 week old cockerpoo puppy. And to be honest I never thought that I would get a puppy this summer. It was nothing planned but I was definitely open to getting a new dog in my life. I would say for the two three past months that a curiousness have started inside of me and I love dogs and I knew of course that someday I will get a new dog but I don't really know when. I've been just open to the possibility that it might be soon or it might be in a year or whenever but that it would happen now it was... Yeah, I'm still a bit shocked by it all. But I also feel like it was definitely meant to be. Sometimes life just throws you in a new direction. And you just got to hop on the train and that's what I did. Oh, she's so cute. It's kind of hard to concentrate.
So yeah, I have been open for the possibility and I've been in the past two months looking a little bit here and there on on the marketplace. I've been looking on Swedish shelter dogs even though we don't really have shelter dogs here in the same way in Sweden. But like replaced dogs etc. Just you know feeling this curiousness that a dog is coming my way but I also didn't want to actively search for it and look it up. I had this feeling inside of me that the dog will come my way.
There has been one thing that has been very important for me like my top priority and that has been my cat Naelli. For those of you who have followed me for a while, you know that she really really loved Nanook, dog who passed a year ago. And when he died, yes, she was definitely grieving. I could see that so strongly in her. And after that, she bonded a lot with me. Before that, she was very drawn to Nanook. As I've said earlier, Nanook was my number one and it was Naelli's number one. And when he passed, we, you know, connected very much. So, we have been, yeah, just had a closer connection than ever. And obviously, her life changed a lot. She lost a lot of her family in a way because of all the changes in my life. So, she has gone through a hard time too. And I think it's so beautiful how we have connected with each other.
Now when I knew that someday a new dog will come into my life, my number one priority has been that it's going to be good for her. That she will be comfortable with it. And the problem is that she has never accepted any other dogs than Nanook. She is very scared of dogs or she doesn't want to get close to them. She doesn't even give them a chance. For example, my parents dog Harry, he's been here now for 5 years and she doesn't accept him really. She's very skeptical. And whenever there's another dog in my house, she just, you know, gets out of here. So, I knew that was going to be a little bit of a problem. Obviously, I also needed the dog to accept cats, and that's not always easy to find. So after a lot of thinking, I felt that the best way would be to get a puppy. Maybe a puppy that is even smaller than Naelli, my cat, so it would be as least threatful as possible, so that she would not be scared of it. Because my heart would break if I would get a new dog in my life, and that would mean that my cat would be uncomfortable in her home for the rest of her life. She is 12 years old. She's getting older and I don't think she adjusts as easily. And the good thing with a puppy is that I know that they accept her. They have nothing else to compare it with.
Hello little one. I'm not going to start talking to her because then she's going to start waking up. She's been playing a lot so she should be tired. Anyway, as I said, I've not been actively searching. I just been curious, looking around a little bit, feeling open, and I've had this trust that I'm going to know when I see my dog. I'm going to know when it's the right time. I'm going to get a sign or I'm just going to feel it. So, I don't have to search for it in that way. I'm just going to be open and curious and see what happens.
So, then how did little Lumi end up in my life? It happened really quickly. I was eating dinner at my parents house in the beginning of June. My older brother Isak was there with his daughter Clara. And after the dinner, we sat and drank coffee. And my dad was going to show something on the computer. He was going to buy some for the boat. And on this site, I saw from the side this face of a dog, of her face, just popping up as a little picture. And I don't know what happened, but when I saw her eyes, when I saw her face, like it's her. That's that's my dog. That's how I felt. And I don't know if some of you can relate. Maybe some of you can who have, you know, got the same feeling when you saw your dog. I've seen so many available dogs, but when I saw her, something just struck in my heart and I actually texted the one who owned her immediately and I got an answer and she was still available. And the next day, my brother was going back home to Stockholm with his daughter and I joined them so I could come and look at her.
So, it happened so quickly, but since they were going down to Stockholm anyway, I thought, why not? Something I've really learned through my own life experiences is that sometimes things will pop up very quickly in your life. And maybe you don't have the time to think too much about it. You just have to act on the feeling of your heart speaking. And for me that is often moving with a pace that is flow that it's quick. For me that is the way that flow often comes. When I'm in a flow or things happen you know miraculously, when things you know get put together in a beautiful way, that often happens quickly for me. I it's not something analytical or something I think about or plan for a long time. It's a feeling and I act on it very quickly and it just opens up a new path. Maybe it's not like that for everyone but for me that's the case. So whenever I get a very strong feeling like that I am not really afraid of acting on it because I have learned to trust that these very strong feelings can lead to something very good even though it doesn't really make sense in the moment. Maybe it, from the outside, looks like you're just doing something without, you know, thinking. But yeah, I acted on it. I followed them down and they joined me looking at her. And of course, I fell in love with her immediately. I also got a chance to see her mom, Ellie, and her two siblings, Molly and Frankie. And yeah, they were all adorable. And it was really good to see the mom and to see how she was since this is a very new breed for me. I'm always used to very big dogs. And at least she was yeah kind of small and so happy, but so gentle and active and playful. There and then I knew that she's going to start a life with me here.
Just going to have a sip of the tea. I'm talking so much. Cheers everyone. I'm so happy that you want to listen to my story with how Lumi came here. And then the same evening I was going to take the train back home. It takes like six, seven hours. And on that train back home I was feeling the strongest waves of sorrow because of Nanook. I felt some kind of sorrow that a chapter was truly ending. Even though my life with Nanook has ended already, it was now the space between. He was still my latest dog and I was in the emptiness after him or how to say before something new started and now something new was starting and it was just this kind of fear that I didn't want to replace him and I knew that could never happen. Nanook is Nanook and he will always have his space in my heart and I know I can love a thousand more dogs. It's just hard to describe the feeling. I just felt... Maybe some of you can relate that have had a dog that has passed that there's some kind of process that happens when you are welcoming in a new dog in your life. It's so hard to speak about Nanook still. I think a simpler way to describe it was that I had the feeling that I was doing something wrong for feeling joy and love for a new dog. In my heart, I knew that Nanook is so happy for me and he would love this gentle little soul. I somehow want to believe that he has something to do with this, that he sent her my way. That he's being part of choosing my new life companion. So, it was just a process I had to go through. And I guess I'm still going through it.
Can I just show you? How is she sleeping? So now you know a little bit of the story how she ended up here. And it all went so quick from the moment I saw her eyes on that screen till she came here, that was three weeks. So, in my previous video, I named the title preparing for a new chapter, and I told you that I've been very busy. And of course, that was because I wanted to clear out as much space as possible to, yeah, to welcome her into my life. Since I was not planning on getting a puppy this summer, it has been a bit crazy in my head to get things to work because there's a lot of work to do. There's a lot of things happening and I also want to be so present with her and give her such a safe start. So yeah, I've been very busy in my mind to kind of figure out how to do this. I know it's going to be fine and I have a wonderful team helping out and wonderful parents and my brother Filip.
So she was ready to be picked up the day after midsummer and midsummer is a huge tradition here in Sweden. It's the time of the summer solstice and we celebrate the lightest time of the year. So me and my brother Filip, he helped me to get down to Stockholm and we spent a night there with my older brother Isak and his wonderful family and celebrated midsummer with them. And then the next morning I went to pick up Lumi and then we drove all the way home. And I was a bit afraid that she would be very stressed during the long journey. It would take like seven, eight hours to drive back home. But she was so good. She never cried or anything. She was just sleeping. And then we took little breaks and Filip was driving all the way. So I'm so grateful for his help. And then in the evening when we arrived here, it was a huge thunderstorm outside. One of the biggest thunderstorms I've ever experienced. I just think all of this is so beautiful because the night that I had seen her face and the night before I was going to go and look at her, I already had a name in my head and it was looping all night in my head and that name was Lumi. And lumi comes from the Latin word lumen which means light or brightness. And it also means snow in Finnish and in Estonian I've heard. I think it's so beautiful that she came to me in the very brightest time of the year between midsummer and summer solstice. Her first night here was the night to the summer solstice. And when she came, there was lightning all over the sky. Yeah, I just like these little signs.
She's a Lumi. She slept through the first night. We went to bed pretty late, but she slept until 6:00 in the morning, and she's been so wonderful and so calm and so safe. I've also been crate training her. And the first evening she walked into her crate by herself and she feels so safe in there and she sleeps there. And so she sleeps beside me in her crate. And oh, she's so damn cute. Please look at this. She's sleeping with her little head in the crate. So I am so grateful that everything went so well and I am absolutely aware that in a week or two things may be very different. She's still so young. She's learning so much and she might go through a lot of changes and moods and everything. But I'm ready for it. And yeah, it's going to be an interesting, wonderful, intense summer.
And now I can imagine that a lot of you are wondering, "What is my cat Naelli thinking of Lumi?" I would describe it as she's curious, but very skeptical. She is very interested. She's coming up to her crate pretty quick and sniffing, but then she's kind of backing off. And when we're out in the garden, she's like looking at us and looking at her, but she keeps her distance. But they have been smelling each other. They have been, you know, meeting quickly. But I think it's so important to let Naelli take her time with this. I know cats are special. They are not like dogs. just, you know, wanting to meet immediately. Lumi is super happy to see the cat. She's so happy every time she sees her. But Naelli, she needs some time. But I am sure this is going to go really good because already now they have, you know, sniffed at each other and I can see that Naeli is curious. I have this dream vision in my head that in the late autumn, maybe when the snow arrives for the first time and it's cold outside, I am lying here in the couch with Lumi and with Naelli and they are like snuggling up with each other or at least laying in the couch together. Oh, that would be so wonderful. That would be heartmelting because I know how much Naeli loved Nanook. I also know that she will be able to love and feel so much comfort in a new friend because actually now it's only me and her and I would love that you know sometimes when I have to leave them alone for a couple of hours that they have each other, that they have the comfort in each other and that Naeli wants to follow us on our walks like we did with Nanook. But I'm not going to push anything. I'm going to let her take her time.
So now you know that I got a new friend, a new companion, a new family member. I am so so grateful. She doesn't know yet what a life she will have. I will bring her on so many wonderful adventures and I will do my best to give her a really good life. I can't wait until she's big enough and we're gonna go swim in the lake and we're going to run in the forest and she's gonna follow me to the mountains and we're going to go for car rides in the middle of the night and all those things. But before that, I'm just going to give her all my love and make her feel so safe and just so loved. It just feels so beautiful to know that she's going to be part of my future life now and in the videos. So yeah, this is the first time you're seeing Lumi, but you're going to see a lot of her. And I just want to say that I'm also so so happy and grateful for all the love and all the positive comments that I've got from you guys on Instagram and on my membership channel here. I am so so grateful.
She's starting to wake up a little. Hey, Lumi. You want to say hi? I love you. I have to stop wearing jewelry for a while. Yes, I've taken off all my rings and bracelets and everything. I had a necklace on. It was a bad choice. Yes. Thank you so much everyone for watching this video. And I will be back very soon with a new vlog. And in that vlog, she's going to be part of it. And that feels so beautiful and crazy at the same time. Yeah. A new life is starting now. A new chapter. Please take care everyone. I'm sending you so so much love and little Lumi as well. I see you soon again. I love you. Bye bye! Now we got to go out and pee. Yes, potty training.
