It is the season for giving and receiving gifts, and one of the gifts out there that keeps on giving is that of cold and flu, and sickness, and viruses, and illnesses, and all kinds of bugs and stuff that are floating around this time of year. So, I feel it's appropriate to talk about how narcissistically abusive people treat you when you are down and out and sick and ill.
And now, chances are, if you're with a narcissistic person, they're the reason you are down and out and sick and ill. As a matter of fact, I've made a video that has already tied together the stress of toxicity from narcissistic abuse to all kinds of various illnesses that you might be dealing with in your life. You can watch that video at some point right there if you haven't seen it yet.
However, I want to talk just about your standard, typical flu, cold, you know, COVID-19, or whatever else is coming around this holiday season that you may have to contend with while being in a toxic relationship. And for those of you who don't know if you're dealing with a narcissist, well, a sure way to find out is to pay attention to how they treat you when you are sick.
I'm going to cover three typical responses from narcissistic type personalities when you are sick. So, if you see any one of these three, well, now you know, and it's probably time to start making some plans, right? To find your exit strategy. Wait for the last one. The last one is by far the shadiest way in which narcissistically abusive people treat you. That's number three. And I'm going to add some bonus material to that of something you really need to pay attention to and watch out for, because it can further damage you and make you worse, and make it so that you have a hard time recovering from illness altogether.
All right, let's get into this. My name is Kevin, and this is The Royal Wii.
Now, before I do continue talking about how narcissistic people treat you when you're down and out and sick, I want to let you know that I'm here to support you. Down in the description box, you'll find access for one-on-one appointments with me. I do take telephone calls and video calls through Zoom, FaceTime, and WhatsApp. So, if you are down and out this season, you don't have to be down and out alone. Head on down there, schedule some time with me. I'd love to work with you and help you to resolve some of the issues that you're facing, even if you are feeling ill right now.
Also, I do have a coaching program. My coaching program is live and in person each and every day. So, if you're looking for a community to be a part of where you can spend time with me each and every day, like this, on a more close and intimate level where we can ask and answer questions, then head on down there, join the Royal coaching program. We're focusing on rethinking Christmas this month. You don't want to miss out on that.
Now, let's jump right into this. As I said before, chances are narcissistically abusive people are going to be the reason that you are sick. But let's get into how you're treated by narcissistic people, people who are toxic in your life, who lack empathy. And this is what we talk about. We talk about narcissistic abuse. It's a complete lack of empathy.
So, number one, the first way in which narcissists treat you is going to make total sense to you, and that is that of complete dismissiveness. Not only dismissiveness, meaning dismissing your sickness, but also just making a joke out of it, rolling their eyes at you when they walk by and see you lying on the bed with a bucket by your face. They're just rolling their eyes, kind of having a good time with it. It's just not that big of a deal. And they may even start to act annoyed by it, like you're just making the day harder on them. You're an inconvenience for them, just by you being sick in some way, shape, or form. You being sick is not serving them or is not giving them what they want, and so it's just an annoyance.
And so they'll walk by, they'll crack jokes, they'll roll their eyes at you. They may even make sly comments indicating, "Oh, again, you're always sick. There's always something wrong." And mind you, you could go years without having so much as a sniffle. You could be the one person that never even got COVID or had no symptoms, but this time that you get the sniffles, or that you get the stomach bug, or that you get some kind of a foodborne illness, and you know, and you're throwing up and stuff, they're going to be rolling their eyes, "Oh, you're always sick. There's always something wrong with you." They're going to exaggerate it in that way.
This is the lack of empathy when we talk about narcissistic people, narcissistic personalities. And what's really frustrating about the lack of empathy is that this lack of empathy is something they expect from you. So, when they're sick, when they're not feeling well, when something's going wrong with them, they want to be catered to. But when it's not them, when it's you, there's a complete inability for them to empathize, for them to understand you, without rolling their eyes, making it a joke, almost being angry. "How dare you?"
So, they want empathy for themselves, but not for you. This gets into that territory that nobody understands about narcissists. It's the inherent selfishness. And it's almost mind-blowing how there are people that exist that they need these things in their own life, but are unwilling or unable to provide them. When you really wrap your mind around that, and you're a normal person, which I'm assuming if you're watching this video and you're a normal person, at some point you're going to be like, "No, uh-uh. I'm I'm I can't do this. I cannot be with a person who expects the catering to but can't give it." Because that's just inequality in a relationship. That lack of reciprocation, that's a no-go. And I hope that each and every one of you in your life learn and accept that and draw these hard boundaries and make these boundaries early on in a relationship. Any relationship, the moment you see a lack of reciprocity, a lack of equality, a lack of them being able to do what they expect themselves, that's an instant, like, boom, you're gone.
Because what that says is that they're looking at you as more of a parent figure than a partner. They're looking at you to be their daddy or their mommy, in which case you serve them, but they don't have to do anything for you. Where you need to show them empathy when they're sick, and you need to put the thermometer in their mouth, and you know, make sure you put a damp cold cloth on their forehead, and spoon-feed hot soup into their mouth, right? Like a mommy or a daddy would. But when it comes to you being sick, they just stay away. They just walk by or they roll their eyes. "Oh, they're sick. They'll get over it."
All right, huge red flag. Do not be in a relationship being somebody's parent. It's either equal, and they help you when you're sick, just as you help them when they're sick, or let them go. Get out. Bail. Like, jump ship now, because it will never get any better. So, that's number one. That's the first way, the dismissiveness, the lack of empathy.
Number two. The second way would be that of controlling. Now, this is an interesting one because they might show some care, some concern, but it's going to be in a real sarcastic, real almost controlling way. And what I mean by that is they may pass it off as not being that big of a deal in an attempt to control what you're doing. So, you might be sick, and you'll say, "You know what? I want to go to a doctor." They're like, "No, don't go to the doctor." And in a controlling way, they'll come up with all kinds of excuses. They'll say things like, "We can't afford it. Don't go to the doctor. You're not that bad. All you need to do is lie down."
And then they start to take over and play doctor. So, some narcissistic people will actually just play doctor and get you to not get the help that you need. And this can actually be dangerous. And they might come up with all kinds of, God knows whatever, armchair reasons that you are sick. They might say things, "Well, you know, ever since you started your green smoothie diet, that's why you're sick now, because you're not eating, you know, chicken and meat like me anymore." Or they might come up with some weird thing that you have to try. "Eat one of my protein bars, and you won't be sick anymore. These things will just go away. Just let it go away on its own. Just go lie down."
And they'll be very controlling and very forceful, and they will stop you from doing what you feel you need to do in order to get over your sickness. It's an attempt to control and to dominate. This is the inherent nature of domination that a lot of narcissistically abusive people have. And it has nothing really to do with whether or not it's too expensive to go to a hospital or to go see a doctor. It has nothing to do with any of that. What it has to do with is taking away and stripping away your freedom to do those things. They don't want you to have the independence and the free agency that it takes to get yourself up and go see a doctor, to get yourself up and go try to do something that's going to make you feel better. That, to a narcissistic personality, represents your freedom. That represents your independence from them.
And they would much rather say, "No, no, no, don't do that." Even if they have to get angry. "Don't do that. You don't need to do that. You're wasting your time. You're wasting your money. Don't take Tylenol. Don't take Advil. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Do this. Take a spoonful of red hot chili powder." You know, God knows what, you know what I mean? As long as they can hear themselves tell you what to do, and you listen to it. This can have dangerous consequences, as it may take you longer to heal. So, that's the controlling dynamic.
There was a movie that I actually reviewed, and I'll put a link to it right here. And in that movie, which is a fantastic illustration of something that was taking place, where this woman in this movie needed to see a doctor because she was having some issues, and the guy says, "No, no, don't do that. It'll resolve itself." Right? And by the way, it's a very sick and twisted movie, and at the end of the movie, you find out something very dark and sinister that's taking place. I'll put the link right there, and you could watch it. It's an award-winning film. It's on the darker side of narcissistic abuse, just to warn you. But in that, you see this need to control of, "No, don't, don't go to the doctor. You don't need to do that." Okay? It's just an effort to control. That's the second way.
The third way. Now, this one I saved the best for last. And the reason is, is because this is dicey territory, and I need to be careful how I talk about this, because it's hard to catch. But some narcissistic people will exploit your illness and your sickness for their benefit. This gets into the territory of virtue signaling. Narcissistically abusive people. How many of you have heard of the term virtue signaling?
What virtue signaling is, is when a narcissistic person puts up this front that makes them look good to the rest of the world. It makes them look like they're concerned. But at the same time, if you're not careful, it also buries you in a way. Because what they're doing is giving this image to family members or to social media that they are this hero, that they are working so hard and exhausting themselves because you're sick. And what it is doing, inadvertently, is it's making them look good. They're virtue signaling. They're the hero, and making you look like you're a burden.
And narcissistically abusive people can do this when you are sick. As a matter of fact, many narcissistically abusive people out there work hard to get people they are with sick. Number one, when you're sick and when you're ill, you're controllable. You're less likely to be independent. As a matter of fact, you're in a place of dependency. You are in your greatest, most vulnerable place of need when you are ill.
Now, right now, many of you are going to be like, "Well, yeah, that makes sense why a narcissistic person would want you there." Right? And so, many narcissistic people not only work hard to get you ill, but part of the strategy, whether it's conscious or not, is to keep you ill. Because an ill version of you, a sick version of you, will always be dependent, and they will always be the one above. They will always be the caretaker. They want to get you in a caretaker, sick person role, so that you go nowhere.
Now, you really see this when it comes to narcissistically abusive people when they have a relationship with somebody who struggles with a mental illness, maybe depression, maybe something, a disorder of some kind. Narcissistically abusive people will really exploit that and take advantage of that. And you'll often times see them online, "Oh, you have no idea how hard it is. I work, I work so effort, I work so much effort. I work, I exhaust myself in taking care of this person in my life. Their needs are so great, but I do it because I love them." Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You just want to read it. You just want to give them a, "Oh, golf clap." But it, but it's dark and it's sinister. And it's like, "No, don't golf clap. Don't do anything."
Because what they're doing is they're establishing this dynamic: "I'm this great person, and this person's so ill." And what most people don't realize is that's exactly the image that it has been given. And often times, a person's not really that ill, but that narcissistic person wants to make sure that they are, and will often times convince a person that they're ill. "You're not well. Have you taken your medications?"
This is a person who, at the beginning of the relationship, was so bright-eyed and so much fun. By the end of the movie, she's just sick. All right. All right. So, this gets into the territory of narcissistically abusive people who need to virtue signal in a relationship, keeping somebody sick so they look good, and also making sure that that person's going nowhere.
Now, the added bonus material that I wanted to share with you is something you need to watch out for. And this is in this place where narcissistically abusive people are virtue signaling and they want to keep you sick, they can also take advantage of you and push your boundaries while you're sick. So, many narcissistically abusive people will, for example, push for things like sex, will push for you to do things, will go against what you want, simply because you're ill, because it's hard for you, because it's something you can't do. You're going to notice that it probably arouses the narcissistic person. They are most excited at the fact that they push your boundaries. And this is sad. This is a sad reality of these sick, twisted narcissistic people.
So, I wanted to let you be aware of that as well. If you are experiencing any of this, you're dealing with a narcissistic person, and you don't need to. I hope that this message finds you. And this cold and flu season, if you're dealing with any of these things we've talked about, take it seriously. Look at the red flags. And as I said before, if you need help, I'm here to support you and to help you sort this out.
