pray and give thanks amen amen I have preached about Augustine [Music] today A little more then it will be continued by others renewal and providing the most important continuation How Christianity maintains faith and belief throughout history do you still remember in Augustine's sermons in the three books he wrote he gave an extraordinary legacy First my confessions second the city of God third the Trinity if the important things written by this African were not passed down the church now wouldn't know where to go after the renewal from Alexander the Great the renewal given to us by Constantine the Great then God finally used Christians themselves to renew the faith of Christians not through many councils but through the writings of a great man his thoughts his faith his spirituality his knowledge and his conduct Augustine was an Asian not a European so it seems unbalanced this person from Africa What does he have to do with Christianity Christianity started from and children Nero some slept with women on their wedding day were plundered like sugar cane the Roman Empire looked great society was advanced general education and political power were so great but their morals were very broken very bad the Roman Empire until King Constantine became emperor he stopped killing Christians he stopped persecuting the church so people who had previously served and worshipped God under the catacombs could finally come out and begin to be free religious people and blessed by God the Roman Empire experienced mostly corrupt kings there were also very good kings like Marcus Aurelius but also Trajan and Vespasian many emperors were very cruel very brutal and very much killed Christians renewal began with Alexander the Great regarding language and culture renewal continued with Emperor Constantine through politics and conscience then renewal until the fourth century was transformed through Augustine a pastor a theologian who loved God brothers and sisters I don't know when the church will repent sometimes if the government doesn't push the church doesn't progress if the government doesn't support it many churches cannot build church buildings knowing how to renew faith inherit belief that is truly continuing the faith like Abraham Moses and so on very little sometimes God uses people like Constantine but it is more important that there are pressure of this world's kingdom will also be destroyed if the world's kingdom becomes corrupt can the church continue to be good or not Augustine thought about this What About The Kingdom of the world collapse What about the continuation of Kingdom of God he thought about the important thing is the war against heresy now this is a smart pastor a smart pastor doesn't look at how much offering money there is how clean or good the building is how many rich people are in the church a smart pastor sees if Christianity's faith can be maintained a very wise pastor knows if the teachings received by Christians the understanding of doctrine by elders and their councils can be responsible I am old now I have to think about 10 years 20 years from now after I am taken home to heaven will the council in the church still be in order will the elders here still maintain the faith will STT still be in order if we don't have orderly people the future is very frightening brothers and sisters Augustine thought day and night What About The Kingdom of God What about the church What about the Christians what about our Society our family are Christian families good are Christian ethics good what destroys and erodes our faith in God false teachings Manichaeism Neoplatonism Donatism and also heretical teachings from various fields like Arius all of that was fought and resolved by Augustine brothers and sisters Augustine there is still one more thing I will finish today then we will move on to Anselm he will think about what about me how can I believe if I want to understand what I believe how do I do it why I can believe How can I understand what I believe these two questions how can I believe and after I believe can I fully understand what I believe in my spirit this question involves highly intellectual believers or intelligent people who believe in God many people believe without knowledge many professors do not want to believe people with knowledge do not easily believe in God people who believe in God are mostly foolish that's why Augustine will resolve this how can I believe Can I understand what I believe how can I believe and how can I understand my belief I think in every era intelligent people who want to believe in God have a disturbance in the conflict between these two faith reason believe and understand so Augustine finally found an important principle written in Latin Quo with intelligas and intelligum at Quo How to have faith and defend faith with very high understanding and how through high understanding to gain even higher faith this is an important struggle for intellectuals unless you are a Christian who just follows Christians who are superstitious you will never understand what you believe you don't care about this but every revival of the entire Christian faith in Surabaya in 84 I moved to Jakarta speaking first 2 3 4 up to 25 and the books have been printed 20 copies just reprinted and in Mandarin to fill the needs of the whole world in the largest language in history Chinese language I alone fill the needs of the entire era in Indonesian culture and Chinese culture and will be translated one by one into English to Englishman and died in England named Anselm or Anselm A N S L E M S Anselm this person was very smart as a child and because his thinking was different from many he debated constantly argued endlessly there was no peace because he liked to debate liked to argue his father finally kicked him out of the house a child who is too smart is not easily accepted by parents easily obeys teachers not easily fits formal education he wandered until he was 28 he himself entered a theological school and studied scripture began to submit to God after he left Italy he fled to England already in England he debated continuously and he had very high faith very high finally until he was over 60 years old he was invited to become the greatest pastor in England the Archbishop of Canterbury the Archbishop of Canterbury is the head pastor of all of England in the Anglican Church he held this position until he died Anselm renewed and defended the faith and belief of Christians and his influence continues to this day for almost 1000 years Anselm was the Archbishop of Canterbury he wrote the most important book called Cur Deus Homo why did God become man now this book on incarnation is the most important book written by Anselm its name is below and this book resolved renewed and defended the Christian faith which has influenced for more than 1000 years brothers and sisters in the book Deus Homo he will discuss why God had to come down to the world why Christ had to be incarnated why he had to become flesh and blood what is the secret what is the reason we must know about this and he is a they become superstitious if people only believe but don't know they become believers without thought their faith is full their brain is empty belief in the heart their brain is completely empty that is not a good Christian Anselm did not want to be a believer without a brain like that did not want to be a believer without intellect either credo in intelligas in order to understand I should bad still play women people who know smoking is bad still drink elephant because what knowledge has no power to translate into action your thoughts have no power to change your life your understanding has no contribution to change your habits many people know this is bad that is bad they continue to deceive themselves and are deceived by the devil Augustine said no Lord tell me what should I do I want to understand but What can I do in order to understand Credo ut intelligas believe so that you may understand so you must believe first yes what is faith faith includes obedience faith includes surrender you believe in God you submit to him you believe in him you are willing to obey submit to him that is faith if someone has submitted to God it is impossible not to understand God's word many people do not understand or understand falsely understand incorrectly understand not truly understand deceive themselves because their hearts have not submitted brothers and sisters do not deceive yourselves anymore if your heart does not want to submit to God you cannot understand God's plan if your spirit does not surrender to God your mind cannot understand God's plan Let us repent not from
