This house was known as the nightmare of the neighborhood. Yeah, looks so soft. Oh.
So, my brothers and I decided to transform it into the best looking house on the entire street, completely free. But we had one big problem. Every time we knocked, nobody ever opened the door. So, we started wondering, does anyone even live here or has this place been abandoned?
"Nothing."
"Again, I think I heard something inside, but I'm not sure."
"No way."
We went to the neighbors to see if they knew the truth about this house.
"I'm hope. Well, I see him come and go. He's not a friend like he don't talk to neighbors."
We realized this wasn't just a broken house. It was also a lonely house. So, we left our phone number with every neighbor we could find, hoping one of them would finally get a message to him and tell him the good news about what we're planning to do with his house.
"Oh my god, that would make me and everybody else happy. Poor guy. I feel so bad for him falling apart. And I see him up there patching and I'm thinking he probably can't afford. I don't know."
Days passed, then weeks, then months, and just when we started to give up on this house, we suddenly got a phone call from an unknown number.
"Hello."
"Hello, Milos."
"Hey, Amos. Speaking."
"Hello, Milos. My name is Colin. I live next to the guy who has the really bad roof. Do you remember that one?"
"Next to the uh, oh, in Oshima, right?"
"Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Are you guys still interested in doing that or no?"
"Yeah, of course."
"Okay. Okay. He, I spoke with him. I'm going to be honest with you. He, he was nearly in tears when I when I told him."
"No way."
"Uh, yeah. Yeah. He, he sort of can't believe it, if that makes sense. He, he doesn't sort of believe it. Um, he's, he's a nice guy. Um, I don't think he's got a phone, you know, so he, he wants that to happen. But..."
Hearing that call, it honestly touched us. All the waiting, all the knocking suddenly felt worth it.
And then another neighbor reached out. A lady who had even more information about the man living in the house.
"Don't really know him, right?"
"He's um, a senior gentleman. He's, he's not, he's younger than I am, I think, but he is retired. And so I wrote a letter and told him who I was and uh who, you know, what you, you know, this people could help you. And I told him it wasn't a scam."
He finally came up and knocked on the door. So he came in, but he was telling me a little bit about himself.
"Mhm."
"And I said, like, if they come knocking at your door, answer the door. Doesn't have a telly. Um, doesn't have a car. So, and he kind of fooled it, right?"
"And he's better off than all of us."
"He says, uh, he's embarrassed."
"Uhhuh."
"And I said, 'Don't be. It's a blessing. Look at it as a blessing.'"
The very next morning, we returned to the house, hoping today would be the day we finally surprise him. But again, nobody opened the door. So, we tried one last time. Again, no luck. We were disappointed we still couldn't find him. So, we decided to do something crazy.
"I hope this won't get us in trouble."
We drove straight to the factory, picked up all the roofing materials, and came back to the house, ready to start this job no matter what.
"Let's go."
Winter was just around the corner, and this house couldn't survive much longer. Something had to be done as soon as possible. And hopefully soon we'll finally discover who this mysterious man really is.
"The tarp is ready. He is coming in next 30 minutes or so. So, let's get rolling."
But the moment we climb on the roof, we realized what we got ourselves into.
"This is the first, the worst roof ever."
"Here is so soft."
"Huh?"
"Oh, yeah. I have to strip the plywood all around."
"Doesn't look good, huh?"
"Yeah. Looks so soft. Oh."
After falling through the roof, we realized we showed up at the very last moment. One more snowstorm and this roof probably would have collapsed. We didn't even want to imagine what could have happened to this poor man. And as all of this was going through our minds, he suddenly showed up.
"Hello."
"Yeah."
"Hey."
"Hey, sir."
"Hi there."
"How are you?"
"Um, I'm good. I'm Milos."
"Yeah, I'm Milos. Yeah."
"You are?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. Hello. Wait, we, we're coming down right now. So, we actually..."
"Nice to meet you, Milos."
"Mike."
"Mike. These are my brothers."
"Your brothers?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. My neighbor Jill, she, I guess called."
"She told me you have no phone."
"That's why we..."
"Yeah. Yeah. So, this is why I, I had a problem talking to you directly. So, um, I just left my message with Jill and contacted her to tell you that. So, I have problems with the phone. So, you're here now. This is, this is good. I'm hearing good things about this."
"Well, we're going to put up..."
"Is it leaking?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah."
"Yeah. I, I uh, I went up there. I was up in the attic, so I have stuff there. Wherever it leaked, I was trying to catch it."
"Uhhuh."
"Uh, but it, it had, it um, it got through. So..."
"But that's all right. Yeah."
"We're going to strip off all the shingle, replace all the wood that needs to be replaced, and then I'll put a steel roof on your house, man."
"Okay."
"Completely free."
"That's, that's um, unbelievable. It's, it's really unbelievable. And this is, you don't run into this ever, this kind of thing. So, there's a hesitation, you know."
"So, you retired?"
"Yes."
"Uhhuh. You live by yourself?"
"Yeah. Yeah. I, I used to work for the railway."
"Uhhuh."
"And uh, I did a lot of things. Um, so I get a little pension from the railway, but it's, it's not uh, not enough."
Finally, meeting Mike made us so happy. And he thinks we're here just to put a roof on his house, but he has absolutely no idea what's really coming. Because in today's video, we are not just fixing a roof. We are completely transforming his entire home into our best looking house on the street. And we're doing everything completely free. Every single morning for the next 5 days, we are showing up at his front door with a brand new surprise. And by the end of this project, Mike won't even be able to recognize his old house.
"It's um, that's a lot to take in. It's such a change."

No damages on this side. As we started stripping off the shingle at the back of the house, all we could think of was what just happened. We had fallen through the roof twice and now every scrape of a shovel, every piece of shingle lifting off felt like a warning. We didn't know what we were about to find under this section. Was the plywood completely gone? Were we about to uncover holes, soft spots, or full sections ready to collapse? Every time we pull up a shingle, our hearts dropped a little more because this wasn't just a roof that needed repairs. This roof was hiding secrets.
"A little bit of water marks here."
And as the layers came off, inch by inch, we braced ourselves for the shoot.
"First side is almost done. Be careful there."
Once everything was exposed, we realized something we didn't expect. Only one piece of plywood needed to be replaced. And honestly, we were happy to see that. So, we took our time cleaning the entire deck properly, pulling out the remaining nails and blowing away every bit of dust.
"Hello, buddy."
"How are you, man?"
And right on time, the bin arrived. The house was officially ready for its transformation. Hey, as we started carrying the old shingles to the bin, Mike did something. They instantly told us who he is. Most people would just step aside, but not Mike. Even at 17 years old, he rushed over to help us, lifting heavy bundles, clearing the path, and doing everything he could to make our job easier. And in that moment, we didn't just meet a homeowner. We met a man who's been carrying more weight than anyone should have to. Yet, he still finds strength to offer a helping hand.
"We got the back stripped off. Doesn't look that bad. That's a, that's not the bad side."
"Yeah. Yeah, I know."
"Only the one. Only one."
"This is probably the best side. Maybe the front is even better."
"And where you stepped through that, that wasn't the worst. Uh, either, you know."
"No. In the middle it's bad."
"You mean it can get worse?"
"Oh, yeah."
As we moved the tarp to start tearing off the second section of the house, the next door neighbor showed up excited to see us.
"Yeah. We started today."
"Oh my god. I kept, I came over. I finally talked to him, right? And I think I hope I convinced them. I really did. At least call the guys, right? Talk to them. I said they're really, really nice. And uh, you know, just, just talk."
"Yeah. A couple neighbors uh gone with us about..."
"Yeah, I know. And I just lived everywhere talking to you in the summer and uh, I, I finally got to talk to him."
"Yeah. It's been like 6 months."
"I know. So I thought if I have a part in you guys doing that for him, I'm so excited."
"Well, it's nice that you guys came back, right?"
"Yeah."
"Even just got, I can't believe you started it without even talking."
"Okay, this side. Hoping for the best, but we're ready for the worst."
"Another one."
"Yeah, be careful."
"Just ran out. Okay, here was the leak. How's it going, brothers?"
"Good. Smooth. Smooth."
"Be careful there."
"So bad."
And now it was time for the side we feared the most. The side where we already fallen through twice. And with every shingle we pulled, we weren't just stripping a roof. We were testing how much more this structure could take. The wood felt tired. The surface felt fragile and the whole time we were asking ourselves, will this side hold together or is it going to give out beneath us again? All we could do was move slowly, strip carefully, and pray this roof didn't collapse before we finish saving it.
"Every step you take could be your last one."
"Okay, another buck is here. Okay, at least we were lucky enough I didn't go straight through the ceiling and ended up in Mikey's kitchen. It wasn't time for lunch yet. Jokes aside, let's hope he stays this way until we finish this entire section."
As we were working, the next door neighbor showed up. The very first person who called us about Mike.
"A lot of work on it."
"A lot of work. Yeah."
"That's all right. But he'll be happy with that. Yeah, that's cool. It's amazing you do that."
"You're the first one who got in touch with him."
"Oh, that's good, man. I'm happy that he's a nice guy. That's good, man. That's good. That's brilliant. You're doing a good thing."
"Thank you, brother."
"That's, I'm sure he appreciates that for sure."
"It was nice to see you."

"Okay, we're back to stripping off the shingles and hopefully no more close calls and no more falling through the roofs."
"On the firewood. You fell to the ceiling."

"Okay. Looks like the roof wasn't the only thing giving us extra work."

"One more. Okay, second side done. Disaster."
"Okay, on this side on two spots, we went through the plywood, but we also went through the..."
"Ceiling. Ceiling. We need to, we're going to have to see with Mike. We're probably going to have to go fix that as well. Yeah, this side is done. Let's go down. Clean up."
"Another day in the office."

"Unfortunately, I, I think on two spots we went through a ceiling a little bit. So..."
"So, we're going to have to fix it. Okay."
"Don't worry. Yeah. Don't worry about that."
"We'll take care of that."
"Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's already damaged. So..."
"It was already. Yeah."
"Yeah. Like soak. Yeah. Yeah. The water. Just touch it and it's going to fall through. Yeah."

"Um, just that I had a lot of these up there. That..."
"The buckets. Yeah."

"Yeah. When we take off the plywoods, we'll take all all the..."
"Yeah. It's just that I, I don't want them to..."

"It's just, it's not a big deal now."
"We strip it off. This, the worst part is gone."
"Yeah."
"We go like maybe 10 times through the roof."

Let's go up on the roof. Now, it was time to start stripping off the shingles from the third side of the house. This side shouldn't be as bad as the last one, but with this roof, you never know. So, let's find out.
"Oh, cool."
So far, the first half of this side looked pretty good, but now it was time to see what's hiding under the second half of this roof. We could already spot a few pieces of plywood that would need replacing, but at least this time nobody was falling through.
While we were up on the roof stripping off the shingle, Mike was down below collecting every piece we tossed down and carrying straight to the bin. Watching him help like that reminded us once again why we were here and why this project meant so much.
And then another neighbor appeared to show support.
"Oh, it's a really nice feel-good project."
"Yeah, it's nice."
"It's going to be, we're going to be here a couple days."
"Yeah. All good. All good. This is Toby."
"Toby."
"You'll probably hear him maybe barking at you over the fence, but..."
"He's not very tough."
"Last night, brothers."
"This one looks perfect. Yeah, brand new."
Finish line is close and we're keeping it safe every step of the way. Hopefully, we haven't made you guys too anxious watching us do this. The stress is almost over. Stripping all four sides took us way longer than we planned. The days were getting shorter and more than half a day has already passed. But we still had to pick up new plywoods and replace every damaged sheet before the sun went down. We couldn't leave Mike's home exposed overnight. So now it became a race against the time and the clock was already moving faster than we wanted.
"How's it going?"
"It's good. Easy."
"Couple wet spots, but still dry. Okay."
"I could tell that one wasn't too bad."
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah."
"Yeah. Um, but the shingles have been going off there for quite a while. So..."
"I've seen you try to make some repairs there. We put like a new shingle on this side on top, right?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah. Yeah."
"Yeah. A lot of them, you know, the shingles were they were nailed at the end instead of in the middle. You know, supposed to nail in the middle. Eh..."
"I know."
"And uh..."
"I see now when we stripping them off, even though it's one layer, it's hard because they're not nailed properly."
"That's right. Yeah."
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah."
"So, that's why I'm saying it's um, that's I could have done that or my friends could have done that. I don't know. But I, I wasn't experienc, that was my first roof that I did last time and had help. So I didn't really know what I was doing."
"That's okay. That's, there's nothing to worry about. The main thing is we, we, we pretty much now know what to deal with. So now we're going to finish stripping off. Then we're going to run to the supply store, get the plywoods. Change the plywoods and hopefully by the end of the day cover the roof with the membrane."
And right in the middle of a race against the time, the neighbor who first connected us with Mike showed up.
"Interesting. Hey, so is he okay with everything?"
"He is good. He's happy. Yeah, he's helping us. Uh, he's excited."
"Good. Good. Good. That's good to hear."
"We, we're going to do a full transformation of the house."
"Oh my gosh."
"But don't tell him anything. Okay."
"No, I haven't, I haven't talked to him at all."
"Yeah. He doesn't know. So far, he thinks it's only the roof."
"Yeah."
"Yeah. It's going to be a lot more."
"No worries, Jill. You already did more than..."
"Some lunch or something."
"Thank you."
"All right. Thank you, Jill. Bye."

So, we rushed to the local hardware store to grab all the plywoods we needed.
"Okay. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12."
"13. Okay, we need 12 more."
"Hopefully, we can fit all this plywood in the van so we don't have to come back twice. We're already running late."
"Last one. Okay, let's go. Heat."
Back on the roof, we started replacing every damaged sheet of plywood one piece at a time. But the sun was already dropping behind the trees, and we still had a lot of work ahead of us. Every minute counted now. We had to secure this entire roof before dark or we'd be leaving Mike's home exposed overnight.
"This one is so wrong. Heat."
"Okay. This one is good, huh?"
"Yeah, this will keep it..."
"Keep. Yeah."
"Yeah. Yeah, just put the memory over..."
"All the little buckets for the water."
"Yeah, it was everywhere."
"Yeah."
"With every new sheet of plywood we installed, the roof started to come back to life. Piece by piece, this place was beginning to look like a completely different home. It was still early in the project, but you could already feel the transformation taking shape."
"Okay, guys. It's almost sunset. We have to hurry up. We don't have much time."
"Yeah, now it's mass time. This one coming last."
"It's starting to smell like new wood again. That's good."
"I said we have this side here left."
"Yeah. Yeah."
"And we got all the plywoods replaced. They have to be replaced."
"You had to replace it."
"Yeah. Yeah. The whole side is new. Brand new on that side. Everything new. One piece here. I have like three, four, five pieces here. That's it."
"Brothers, you're doing flash. Uh, I think they're doing nails anymore."
Somehow, we managed to do everything we planned. The sun was going down. The clock was against us. But things finally started going our way. With all the new plywoods installed, the roof had a solid foundation again. Strong, safe, and ready for what's coming next. All that was left now was to clean up the front of our house, pack up our tools, and head home for some well-deserved rest. And for the first time in years, Mike could sleep in peace tonight because his home finally had a new foundation over his head. And he had nothing to worry about anymore.
"Everything needs to be."
"Okay, Mikey, that's it for today."
"Yeah. Okay. Thank you very much, Mike."
"You're welcome. I don't know what to say, you know. Thank you very much. I feel so much better that you, you guys are here."
"Here comes Sunny."
"Sunny, how you doing?"
"What's going on?"
"You good, Sunny?"
"No, not much. Not much. Not much."
We met up with our good friend Sunny. He and his son Marcus run an aluminum business right here in the community. And whenever we take on a project like this, they are always happy to jump in and help. They're the kind of people who always show up without being asked because they believe in giving back just as much as we do.
"How you doing?"
"Morning, sir."
"Morning, Mikey. How are you?"
"You got another brother."
"A brother from another mother. Sunny."
"Hi."
"Nice to meet you, my friend."
"Yeah. So, Sunny is our friend. Yeah."
"So, we have one more surprise for you."
"What's that?"
"We won't be doing only the roof. We also going to put a brand new soffit, fascia, gutters for the entire house completely free."
"You're kidding."
"Yeah."
"Like it's, it's totally unbelievable. No, really. Um, you know, I'm, I've gotten a little bit cynical over the years and uh, it's, it's, it's really not, I'm not accustomed to dealing with that. What can I say? You know, there's really, it's really a bit overwhelming. So, I, I'm at a loss for words. You, you don't know how much that's the help that, you know."
Seeing Mike's reaction was all we needed to start the day with a smile. Now, it was time to get to work and keep this transformation moving. It was time to clear the path for Sunny. So, we started removing old and rusty gutters to make room for new beautiful soffit and fascia.
"Okay, hold it. Okay."
"Cool shield. Let's take it out."
"You can't see the brackets. Yeah, right here. Okay, it's..."
"Oops. I hope we didn't break anything."
"Okay. Okay. Yeah."
"The last one."
After removing the old gutters, Sunny got straight to work installing new soffit and fascia and we headed back to the roof and began laying down ice and water shield. Ice and water shield is the first layer that goes over the decking is designed to protect the home from heavy rain, melting snow and any water that tries to sneak underneath the roof. Think of it as a waterproof armor. A layer that keeps moisture out and keeps the wood underneath safe for years to come. Next step was opening up a ridge vent. A proper ridge venting system is one of the most important parts of any roof. It allows hot air trapped inside the attic to escape. Keeps the home cooler in the summer and helps prevent moisture buildup in the winter. In simple terms, ridge venting helps the roof breathe and a roof that can breathe will last so much longer.
"All right, let's get a couple of screws in here."
"Try to get this up so that when it shows up at the set, bang, bang, bang."
With the ridge vent opened, the next step was laying down the waterproof breathable membrane. This layer is one of the most important parts of the entire roof. It creates a protective barrier that keeps the water out while still allowing the roof to breathe from underneath. Without it, moisture could get trapped, the wood could start to rot, and the roof would wear down much faster. But with a proper breathable membrane in place, the entire home becomes safer, stronger, and protected for years to come.
"Holy wind."
Meanwhile, Sunny was working on soffit and fascia. He had a lot to finish before the end of the day and he was doing it all by himself. "There's the next door neighbor waving at us. We jump back straight to work. Next job was horizontal wood strapping."
A stage that really starts to shape the look and the strength of the entire roof. The layout was coming together fast and you could finally feel the structure tightening up like the house itself was waking up and getting ready for a new metal roof.
"Heat. Heat."
"Yeah."
"Get out of here. Woohoo!"
"Up. How much do we have left?"
"Last two."
"Yeah."
"In the van."
"And there, there is three more."
"I don't know how much."
"Okay, we'll see how far I get. Huh?"
"Ooh la la. Look at this. Half of the soffit and fascia is already done. And the house is starting to look gorgeous. We went with a black finish to give everything a clean and classy look and it instantly started to transform the whole home. Hope you guys are loving this transformation as much as we are. Let's go whatever we can with this."
"Are you serious?"
"Last piece."
"Sunny. Last side, huh?"
"Last side, buddy. Last side. We'll be done this off today for sure."

There was one last section of soffit and fascia left to finish on the house. Meanwhile, we wrapped up the wood strapping, quickly cleaned up around the property and jumped in to help Sunny finish strong.
"Good. How are you?"
"I'm good, my friend."
"Good. You go, bro."
"What age is coach?"
"Oh, you soccer coach."
"I'm a late soccer coach."
"What age?"
"Uh, I do men's."
"Men's league one. Men's."

"Mikey, I wanted to ask you, you know, we notice how all the paint is peeling at the front and everything cuz you're putting a new roof, right?"
"Yeah. So, we wanted to to paint the house in a different color like this lower portion. Make it nice and match it just to help, you know, just..."
"Well, like paint it what?"
"Like a dark gray color like something to match the house."

"My also, we want to clean all this up, cut all the grass, trim all the weeds, get this all cleared, huh?"

"That's what we're planning to do today."

We were super excited. This was the day the entire property was getting a full makeover. We were doing a complete cleanup, cutting the grass, removing all the weeds, cleaning the driveway and the sidewalks, and painting the entire house in a brand new dark gray color. So, we went to grab the paint. And after talking with Mike, we all agreed the dark gray was the perfect choice. Stay tuned. This transformation is going to be incredible. Let's go.

By the time we came back from the paint shop, Mike was already out on the driveway scraping away all the overgrowth. You could tell he was really looking forward to this makeover.

So, we came by just for a bit to see if we could at least squeeze in the gutter installation. If the weather works with us, we are hoping to get this part of our job done before the storm rolls in."

The sky was getting darker and the rain could start any minute, but we were not going anywhere. We decided to take advantage of every second without rain and get as much as done as possibly could today.

Today's plan was a special one. We are meeting up with our friends Milan and his son Phillip, who are both licensed plumbers, and they came to give us a hand with something really meaningful. While the boys from Peak Renovations were installing the whole house water filter for Mikey, we jumped outside to start scraping off the old paint [music] and getting the walls ready for the fresh new look. Oh boy, we were excited for this part.

Uh you actually just have to input new filters inside. But it's very [music] simple and easy. You just turn it here and take it out and push it back in again.
>> Uh all the [music] uh hoses are um pretty much the plastic ones. It's very [music] simple and easy. Just push in and it's all ready to go and done. The biggest part was drilling the 1-in hole here [music] to the counter. And assembling the faucet was quite easy. Just uh screw it from underneath and that would be it. So, it's good to go. Can we test it?
