We're moving on to the subject of engaging, and this is a topic close to my heart—close to the heart of anyone working in the field of motivational interviewing.
It's a critical foundation, and I guess most enjoyably, it's something with real depth. It's a topic that can get neglected; services can fail to adequately design their system so that people are engaged.
Many practitioners, counselors, and therapists believe it's a basic skill that they really know how to do. As I hope you'll shortly see, this is not the case.
The skill of engaging is something that's actually quite simple and difficult to do, and that's the exciting part—we have found people really enjoy learning about it.
