I Fixed Tesla FSD 12.6.3 Myself! - You Can Too

Hi everyone, I'm back for another 12.63-second Drive video.

And why am I doing this? I'm doing this because I did something that someone suggested on the internet to try. I've been having such a hard time with 12.63; it's been a dumpster fire. Go back to this video right here if you want to see it in action.

Not doing great in town driving, most of the problems are around decision making and just driving way too slow. I did a camera calibration, a recalibration of my cameras. I've never done it in the 70,000 miles I've had this car. You get to it by hitting the car menu and then going down to service. You have to be in park for this, and you want to select calibrate cameras.

When you do that, you basically have to drive for about 15 to 20 miles, and you'll get this little blue indicator on the top of the screen saying it's recalibrating. When it's done, you can reenable FSD, and I did that. Let me tell you, this is a different car.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to do the exact same drive that I did just a couple of days ago in my last video, but with this recalibrated camera setup. We're going to see, and you'll see, is it any better? Let's get to it.

All right, let's do it. Just engaged FSD. If you remember from the last drive, I was doing like 17 mph; it's a 45. Here we are, slowly accelerating. I'm up to 42. I would like to see it a little bit faster on this road, but this is a huge improvement over what it did last time.

So, very natural, very good speed for this road. Definitely better than the 18 mph. We have a right-hand turn coming up. Cross traffic is doing 55 mph. This is midday, so we should have a fair amount of traffic here.

See what it does. Nice pull up to the line, waiting for traffic to clear, inching forward. We are going, and there's even a car in the far lane, and it decided to go. So, good job there. Quick, get over into the left lane. All this is very natural so far.

Speed, we're in a hurry. We are in the profile at this point since we're above 50 mph, going 58, I think I saw. Now we're going to come up here, and we're going to want to make a left-hand turn. Hopefully, there's no surprises here for me because I've been driving this a little while after I recalibrated it, and I have to admit that things have just been completely night and day.

Now, while we're sitting here waiting for the turn, I've already posted a quick video in X saying, "Hey, you recalibrate your cameras," and I've already gotten a lot of feedback saying that's not going to work; that's not how it works.

And it may not be how it works, but I used to write software for a living, and sometimes there are unintended consequences. Perhaps something got flipped, something got reset, something improved. I don't know, but it's certainly no harm in giving it a try, other than you're not going to be able to use FSD for about, you know, 20 miles. Big deal.

So we just did that left-hand turn; it was nice and smooth. You can see right now we're at 30 mph. We're going at 35. Some could argue, and I said in my last video, that maybe it's because we are following traffic. Who knows?

But so far, I am happy with what it's doing. No jittering of the steering wheel, good decision-making process so far. Everything right now, I am starting to have faith in the world again. I was really, really getting depressed that FSD just wasn't going to happen for Hardware 3 because 12.6 has been absolutely abysmal.

Some of you may have gotten sick of me complaining about it on X, but I also have to admit and acknowledge that so many of you on Hardware 3 and 12.6 have been just having a great go at it. There's almost been like this A/B testing going on, and I don't think they do that. I don't think Tesla does that, but which makes me think something else is going on.

Maybe there's a difference in the cars. So let's see what it does with this four-way stop. The last video, it did this stop actually twice. It stopped way short, then it creeped back up again. What's it going to do?

We pulled right up to the line, stopped, and go. Look at that! That's exactly how it's supposed to happen. That was a picture-perfect four-way stop. Again, we're at 25 mph, and we're doing 34. That actually might be a little fast in a 25 mph zone.

It has slowed down to 29, 30 mph. Again, all of this is the speed it's supposed to be going. For those of you that said that my calibration didn't do anything, well, evidence would suggest that it is doing something. What it's doing, I have no idea. What it flipped, I don't know.

We'll slow down here, just waiting for traffic. Let's go ahead and pull up to this light; we need to make a right-hand turn. Again, speeds are really good. I'm impressed right now.

The other thing that I've seen in 12.6 is phantom braking. I haven't had any phantom brakes at all since I've recalibrated the cameras. I haven't had any weird twitchiness. I haven't had it jump into bike lanes like it did before. All of it has just magically gone away.

Now, was it absolutely coincidental? Was it going to do it anyway whether I did the camera calibration or not? I don't know, but here we are, and that's what we're going to do this quick video again to duplicate the process. Hopefully, while you're seeing this, it'll come back and say, "I think we're okay."

So let's just sit here and wait for our right turn here, and we'll be on our way.

Okay, here we go, right-hand turn. That's a good speed for the turn. Right, we're heading up to another right-hand turn to a front edge road to Subway. We did yesterday to Subway to see, and I just kind of let it do its thing to see if it would park.

It did not; it struggled. It had all kinds of problems. So let's go ahead and see what it's going to do here. It only did this road at 6 miles an hour yesterday. We're at 16. All good.

You have arrived at your destination. The guy that doesn't know who's having a right-of-way here, we have some cars I've got to clear out. We're waiting for the car. This is all very good stuff.

And what are we going to do? Look at this! It just parked. The car just parked. Yesterday, it had its mind completely out there, and now it parked the car. So there you go.

It worked, and again, hopefully, you're seeing. Go back and see this; this is almost a night-and-day difference. So in the last video, we went across the way here to our come-and-go area.

Let's go ahead and end that trip and pick my place of work. Let's go ahead and do what we did last time, reenable, and we are going now. It really struggled getting back out onto this road last time.

See if it does it this time. Signaling. Look at this! It just barreled into the little turn here, and we're going. Oh boy, this is night and day.

I'm glad I'm recording this so you can actually see the evidence, the before and the after. If you're having troubles with 12.6, calibrate your cameras. Calibrate your cameras, boy!

All right, we're at 35 here. We do have some slower traffic. We can't go any faster than we're going right now. There's good spacing. All these turns have been buttery smooth.

I would have no trouble having my grandma in the car while this is happening. We are transitioning here to a 45. We'll see if we can actually get up to speed here. It did not last time; it maxed out at 40.

Still thinks it's 35. We are now at 45. We're already at 40 mph, 41. You could argue that it's not going any faster because of traffic.

Have a right-hand turn up here. This right-hand turn again has a little bit of a paved turn lane. It hasn't used it in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't use it again, and it doesn't.

But it is making the turn at an appropriate speed. Now I'm going to let it actually try to make the turn into my workplace here. Before, last time, it actually completely missed the turn and turned early.

What's it going to do this time? We will see. Turn. Try to turn here. Just thinking about it. Oh, now turn! It's turning in the right spot. It's turning into the right spot.

All right, 12.63 2.0, post-calibration, post-camera calibration, and this is a different car. This is a completely different car. Oh my gosh!

If you're having trouble with 12.6 on Hardware 3, give it a try. It can't hurt anything, and for me, I think it helped. My gosh, that was absolutely amazing.
