A Warning If You Use Black Utensils!

Super scary headline from CNN on kitchen utensils and toys being linked to harmful chemicals that were supposed to have been banned. A new study found that black plastic, like the kind used in toys, kitchen utensils, and even takeout containers, might contain harmful flame retardants. These chemicals come from recycled electronic waste used to create those products and are known to cause serious health issues. One of the worst offenders was banned in 2021 because it's been linked to cancer, hormonal issues, and even developmental issues in kids.

And get this: people with the highest levels of these chemicals in their blood were 300% more likely to die from cancer. There are, however, steps you can take to mitigate any potential risks. I know I'm taking them. Switch to stainless steel utensils and avoid toys made from black plastic. Keep your home dust-free, as dust can actually be contaminated with plastics and other worrisome chemicals. Wash your hands regularly to lower your exposure to these chemicals. Definitely share this with anyone you know who might have black plastic in their home.
