Hello! It's Hurley!
Today, we will introduce 22 delicious Fukuoka gourmet foods. Speaking of Fukuoka, there are many tourist spots such as Dazaifu, Nakasu food stalls, and Itoshima. There are many delicious gourmet foods in Fukuoka, such as Hakata ramen and mentaiko motsu nabe.
So in today's video, I will introduce delicious gourmet food that reflects my research of over 600 restaurants a year, as well as the voices of many Fukuoka people. At the end of the video, there is also a map of each restaurant, so I look forward to seeing you until the end today.
On my channel, I introduce delicious restaurants in Tokyo, mainly in the Ikebukuro and Ginza areas. So if you like today's video, please subscribe to the channel and hit the like button. I'm so happy!
Today, I'll introduce you to the Dazaifu area where you can eat while walking, which is the center of Fukuoka, Hakata Station, and the Tenjin area. Let's get to it right away!
First, I'd like to introduce you to the Dazaifu area, a food spot in Fukuoka. There is Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine here, and many people enjoy gourmet food at the same time as praying.
First of all, when you exit Dazaifu Station and turn left, the first thing you will see is Mentaiyaki Onigiri from Fukutaro, famous for its ramen noodles. It's a specialty store. Here, you can enjoy piping hot grilled rice balls made on the spot. It's fun to have a live kitchen where you can see the making process.
Fukutaro's mentaiyaki rice balls have crunchy rice and plenty of mentaiko inside. The refreshing flavor of the shiso leaves inside is a nice accent. The packaging of a girl wearing mentaiko on her head is cute too and gets you excited. You can also drink green tea for 100 yen, so go first to rehydrate before going out to eat.
A 10-second walk west from Fukutaro is the second gourmet restaurant, Ajika's Gold Award Croquettes. This is a restaurant that serves exquisite croquettes that have been around since 1997. It has never gone out of fashion. This classic beef and potato croquette is the perfect trio of crispy batter, fluffy sweet potatoes, and delicious beef. The spicy taste of pepper is also an accent.
Dazaifu Brewery is a must-try with such delicious croquettes. This is the only craft beer shop in the Dazaifu area, located next to Fukutaro, which we introduced earlier. You'll be intrigued by Fukuoka's unique beers like Tenjin IPA and Tenjin UME Ale. It's the best beer to drink in this hot summer. Tenjin Ume Ale was refreshing and very delicious.
As expected, this beer won the Japan Great Beer Awards! When I asked, "Can I eat Gold Award Croquette here?" she said, "Yes," so please enjoy the best match of crispy, fatty croquette and refreshing beer.
Next, for gourmet food, go to Chawawa, which is located across from Dazaifu Brewery and Fukutaro. Here, you can enjoy matcha gelato, which is limited to 50 servings a day. This gelato is a super rich gelato made with Fukuoka's famous Yame tea. It's the perfect example of "tea with a strong, rich flavor and strong flavor," and will gently cool down your hot body. There’s also an eat-in corner, so you can take a short break here.
Next, it's right in front of Dazaifu Station: Nogayama's Mentaiko France. This is a specialty store of Yamaya's mentaiko French bread, which is famous for mentaiko. You can enjoy piping hot bread that has just been baked in the store, so the bread has a very fragrant aroma. The taste is crispy bread. The spicy mentaiko is irresistibly delicious! This is the bread that impressed me the most during my Dazaifu tasting trip, so everyone should definitely try it!
Next, after leaving Dazaifu Station, there are gourmet foods on the right side of the road heading towards Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. First up is Yangtze River's Pork Buns. Yangtze River was founded in 1957, and its founder used trial and error to improve the pork buns that were made in Taiwan at the time for Japanese customers. Shita Butaman is a very famous restaurant that has been featured on TV many times. The pork bun is full of meat juice. It is a super rich pork bun, and the crunchy onions inside are a nice accent. It is famous as one of the top restaurants in the Dazaifu area, so be sure to check it out. Please try it!
Next, we will introduce banana juice that will refresh your mouth after eating pork buns. The Dazaifu SUGIRU, which is located next to the Yangtze River that we introduced earlier, is limited to 30 cups a day! You can get rich banana juice with a 20-minute expiration date. The banana juice made on the spot has the rich sweetness of ripe bananas and is very delicious. The fact that no sugar is used is good for your health, which is great.
Next up is Tenzan. This is a shop that is famous for its strawberry and Shine Muscat skewers. When I went there in June, it was the change of seasons, so I couldn't try it, but it's a popular shop on Instagram, so I'd like to introduce it to you all as a way to share information.
Next: This is Hakubaido Shirou Meadow's successful boiled man! Your naming sense is a combination of "Pass" and "Kakuniman"! If you're thinking, "Oh, but why did I suddenly get a pass?" I understand how you feel. Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, who is revered as the "god of learning." For that reason, many examinees come to take the exam. It's called "Niman." Eating "Kakuniman," which is made with sweet sauce and flavorful kakuni and fluffy dough, seems to bring good luck.
Next up is Starbucks. "Eh! Why Starbucks!? They're everywhere!" In fact, this is the only Starbucks in the world designed by Kengo Kuma, who designed the National Stadium in Tokyo. As expected from Kengo Kuma, it has a fashionable design that uses plenty of wood. There is also an eat-in space, so it is recommended as a break while walking around eating.
Next, we have Umegae Mochi from Kasanoya. What is Umegae Mochi? It is a specialty of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, and there are many Umegae Mochi shops along this approach. One of the attractions of the umbrella house is that you can enjoy the process of making it using a mechanical mechanism right in front of your eyes. Even though it is a machine, it has a somewhat Showa retro feel that makes it attractive!
You may think, "Does Umegaeda Mochi have the taste and aroma of plums?" However, in fact, it does not use plums, but is instead made with a blend of glutinous rice and non-glutinous rice, with red bean paste added inside and baked. It's anko mochi, with an elegant sweetness and a somewhat simple taste that gives you a sense of history.
Here, I'll explain a little bit about Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. For those who say, "Only gourmets want to know about it!", please watch ahead for about a minute. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is a power spot that enshrines the god of learning, Michizane Sugawara, and is visited by many students taking entrance exams and people who aspire to study.
It is also a place where you can enjoy the beautiful nature of each season, and when I visited in June, the hydrangea flowers were beautiful. There are three photo spots here that were in full bloom. The first is this red bridge, Taikobashi. You can take beautiful photos that are typical of Dazaifu. The pond over which the bridge spans, Shinji Pond, is also a wonderful moment with the hydrangeas.
It is said that crossing this pond bridge will "purify the evil thoughts of the third generation," and it is also a bridge for worshipers to purify themselves. And the third is the bronze statue of this cow, the sacred cow. This cow is the messenger of the god of learning, and it is said that if you stroke its head, you will receive wisdom.
After you stroke your hands, feet, or other areas that are sick or injured, it is said that if you stroke the same area, you will be able to "recover from bad things that are transmitted to the cow." For detailed explanations of Fukuoka travel spots, we will introduce a video called "Fukuoka Travel" that will be released soon. Please look forward to it!
Next, I will introduce you to the Tenjin area of Hakata Station in the center of Fukuoka. The first gourmet restaurant is Hirao, a tempura restaurant. This is a famous tempura restaurant that has been selected as one of the 100 famous Tabelog restaurants. Affordable, it's a famous restaurant that is loved by both tourists and locals because it serves delicious tempura at a reasonable price.
Hirao is famous for its tempura, but another specialty is the salted squid that you can't stop eating with your chopsticks. This salted fish has a slight yuzu flavor. Tempura is an addictive flavor that allows you to eat endless amounts of rice. Tempura is served freshly fried one by one, so you can enjoy it at the most delicious time.
Freshly fried, piping hot and crunchy, the flavor of the ingredients is really vibrant. It's super delicious. The big chicken fillet is really big and has a crunchy, moist texture that's irresistible. You can come in without a reservation, so this is definitely a restaurant you'll want to remember when you're having trouble finding Fukuoka gourmet food.
Next up is Kamaki. Kamagiri Udon is a famous restaurant that has been selected by Tabelog 100 Famous Restaurants and Michelin. The specialties here are Sudachi Kake Udon and Kashiwanari Sudachi Kake Udon, which has a golden-brown soup that is so transparent that it can be seen on top of the pure white udon. It's topped with about 10 thinly sliced Sudachi pieces. The bright light green color makes it look delicious.
The soup has a slight sweetness, and from the depths of the salty flavor, the mild flavor of the dashi comes through. It's served cold, so it's hearty! Although it doesn't come with that, it has a deep, nutritious taste with the freshness and bitterness of sudachi. The noodles have both the firmness of Sanuki udon and the smooth texture of Hakata udon.
Pick it up with chopsticks. One of the attractions is that the udon noodles are so long that you can't finish them. Another specialty is Kashiwanari, which has a firm texture of meat and is extremely delicious. This is an impressive dish, so be sure to try it. No reservations are required for Kamagiri udon. Sudachi udon is refreshing and can be eaten even when you're full, so it's recommended as a finishing touch.
Next is Hakata Motsu Nabe, Yamanaka. Yamanaka is by far the most famous motsu nabe restaurant in Hakata, and it's also on the Tabelog TOP5000 list. Established in 1984, up until then, motsu nabe was all about soy sauce, but this is the first restaurant to make miso motsu nabe, where you can enjoy fresh motsu nabe made only with domestic beef and the perfect crunchy vegetables depending on the season.
Yamanaka's motsu nabe is famous for its super rich and hearty taste! The soup is absolutely delicious with a strong miso flavor. The more you chew on the plump offal made only from domestic beef, the richer flavor will spread throughout your mouth. The vegetables absorbing the most delicious miso soup will make your chopsticks go faster and faster. It has an addictive taste.
You can add the cabbage, burdock, konjac, and chives as a separate dish, so you can have plenty of crunchy food. However, it has a punchy taste with a strong garlic flavor, so "I like gentle flavors!" We also recommend Orange, which we will introduce later. Yamanaka is an extremely popular restaurant, so be sure to make a reservation in advance before going there.
The next restaurant is Orange, which specializes in Hakata mizutaki. It is a double-headed restaurant with Hakata's specialty hot pot. This is the motsu nabe that I introduced earlier and this mizutaki nabe. Orange is a famous mizutaki nabe restaurant that has earned a Michelin star. The menu consists of mizutaki nabe and fried chicken, and you can finish with porridge or somen noodles.
This mizutaki is served once. This is the ultimate mizutaki hotpot that you can enjoy three times. First, you will receive the soup that has been simmered for 4 hours. It is still bland at this stage. The staff will prepare all the hotpots for you, so you can enjoy them in the best condition. The meat is thigh meat and shank meat.
The thigh meat has just the right amount of fat and a firm texture, with a rich, deep flavor. The shank meat is naturally high in fiber and difficult to eat, but it is cooked slowly in a mizutaki pot. The refreshing taste of homemade ponzu sauce made with orange vinegar makes this juicy meat even more delicious.
Next up is chicken wings and meatballs. The chicken wings are rich in collagen. As the flavor of the meat melts into the soup, you can enjoy it refreshingly. Add the meatballs and simmer until the hourglass drops, then enjoy the second serving of chicken soup. The first soup was refreshing and bland, but the soup for the second time is soaked with the flavor of the chicken and has a richer taste. This change is really fun to eat.
Next, I will add vegetables to the soup where the flavor of the chicken has melted and wait until the hourglass falls again. Everyone, please watch! Can you see that the color of the soup is getting whiter? Yes, by adding vegetables and simmering them slowly, the flavor of the chicken and the sweetness of the vegetables are added, giving it an extremely rich taste. It's really fun to see how the flavors change.
Honestly, before I went, I thought, "What, it's listed in Michelin, but the menu only has mizutaki and fried chicken?!" But instead, I chose just those two things. The fried chicken was a supreme mizutaki hot pot that you can clearly see why it is cooked in a hot pot. The fried chicken is chunk-sized and packed with meat, and the flavor of yuzu pepper and lemon is irresistibly delicious.
When it comes to hot pot, Orange is an elegant hotpot that only adults can enjoy, and if you like gentle flavors, we recommend Mr. Orange. Orange is a very popular restaurant that requires reservations, so be sure to make a reservation in advance before you go.
By the way, from Orange, just a short walk away is Ohori Park, a popular sightseeing spot in Fukuoka. This is a space similar to Inokashira Park in Tokyo, with a large lake and swan boats. A great photo spot is the large Kangetsu Bridge and the bridge that you can cross. Up ahead is the red building Ukimido and Starbucks.
You might be thinking, "Starbucks again!?" But this Starbucks is one of only 20 stores in Japan and has been selected as a regional landmark store. I'll introduce it in a video called "Fukuoka Travel" that will be uploaded in the future.
The next gourmet dish is Hakata Ramen ShinShin Tenjin main store. When you think of Fukuoka, it's tonkotsu ramen. In Fukuoka, you can find the national chain Ichiran's main store, and it appeared in the ninja anime Naruto. There are many famous restaurants, including those that are based on the motif of Ramen Ichiraku.
Among such famous restaurants, ShinShin, which we will introduce this time, is the restaurant that won first place in the popular ramen ranking selected by 5000 Fukuoka residents. Order the ramen, which is served within a few minutes, is very delicious with its rich pork bone flavor. The slightly elastic thin noodles also go well with this rich soup. The tonkotsu flavor is so strong that you can eat it surprisingly quickly. Even if you're full, you'll still have enough ramen to finish off your meal.
Next is Unzen. Hakata's specialties include ramen, mentaiko, and motsu nabe, but the food stalls that pop up at night are also famous. Unzen is said to be No. 1 in Tenjin. Unzen is a very popular food stall. You sit tightly in a small space. There is a wide range of menus such as gyoza, steak, and ramen, but the specialties are gyoza and mentaiko tamagoyaki, so be sure to order these two.
Unzen cuisine, as you would expect from a popular restaurant, is very delicious. The food is even more delicious because you eat it in a food stall, a space unique to Fukuoka. Here, we will explain some simple rules for visiting a food stall in Fukuoka.
1. Make sure to use the restroom beforehand. There are no restrooms at food stalls, so it's good manners to use the restroom beforehand. If you really want to go on the way, the owner will kindly point you to a nearby restroom.
2. Leave your luggage in advance and keep it light. Basically, your luggage at the food stall will be placed at your feet or on your lap. It is better to leave your carry-on case in a coin locker beforehand.
3. Have a spirit of compromise at food stalls. The number of seats is limited, so please pack your seats so that everyone can enjoy the food.
4. Don't stay too long and leave your seat quickly after you've finished eating. As with 3, the seats at the food stalls are limited, so it's a good idea to give things to each other.
By the way, Unzen is a very popular restaurant that does not require reservations. If you go there at 6:15 p.m., the opening time, you will find that Unzen is always full while other restaurants are empty. It's pretty popular. If the timing is right, you can come in, but if you want to get in without waiting, we recommend waiting 10 minutes before the restaurant opens.
Next, you'll definitely want to try this izakaya in Fukuoka. I would like to introduce you to Mikan, a restaurant that you should visit. This is the best izakaya that has all three features: good atmosphere, good taste, and perfect customer service.
The inside of the restaurant has a wide counter seating that surrounds the kitchen, and seats with sunken kotatsu seats in the back. Our customers range in age from 20s to 60s, and come on dates or with friends. The ratio of men and women is about 50/50, and there are a variety of situations, including men and women, dates, etc.
Click here for the menu. Particularly popular is the bonito straw. Grilled Kure Tofu Duck Houbayaki Gin Shari rice, so if you are unsure, choose this one. The staff will kindly give you advice, so if you are unsure, you can ask.
First, let's toast with beer! The appetizer is corn surinagashi. This has a gentle taste with a faint texture of corn and is very delicious. When the appetizer is so delicious, the expectations for the subsequent dishes are increasing rapidly.
Next is grilled tofu. General Tofu is made by adding bittern to soy milk, but "Kure tofu," which originates from Saga Prefecture, is characterized by adding kudzu and starch to soy milk to make it harden. Unlike regular tofu, it is soft and chewy. You can enjoy the texture, and the rich, sweet miso and elegant tofu are the best match.
Next up is Mikan's specialty, straw-grilled bonito and a variety of sashimi. At Mikan, the straw-grilled bonito is served on a burner right in front of you. It's really nice to be in this restaurant where they always pose for the camera and smile at all the customers.
Today's sashimi includes tuna from Tsushima, seared sea bream from Genkai Sea, conger eel, and horse mackerel from Amakusa, Kumamoto. The fish was freshly caught locally in Kyushu, and it was extremely fresh and very delicious.
Next was the duck meat, Houbayaki. Houbayaki is made by putting homemade koji miso on top of magnolia leaves. It's a baked dish. It goes well with rice, but it's also a very popular appetizer for alcohol. The rich miso is especially effective, and it's a destructive deliciousness that goes endlessly with your chopsticks and alcohol. It's just delicious.
It was too late, so I had the Mikan Shohai for my second drink. The Mikan Shohai is Mikan's original menu, and it is an impactful Shohai that uses half of the mandarin oranges. This Shochu High also has a subversive taste. Most of the people there ordered it.
The next dish was Sushitsutsutsutsutsu. As the name suggests, it comes out in a simmering state, and the lotus root manju with sakura shrimp has a soft texture that pops and has the sweetness of the shrimp and the flavor of the sea. It will spread in your mouth!
Finally, the silver shari rice is a must-order! The customer service here is really nice, so please turn on the sound for a while. "Come on, let's go! The rice is cooked, let's go! Hey, Pakaan!" What do you think? Everyone! It's a wonderful restaurant that makes my heart soar to have such wonderful customer service.
The most important thing is that the taste is so delicious that I was really impressed. If I went to Mikan and was not satisfied, I would say, "Harley, it’s okay if you get angry and say, 'Why are you doing this for me?'"
The restaurant's name, Mikan, comes from the idea that, like the mandarin orange that produces the most fruit among citrus fruits, we hope that the wishes of our customers and the store will come to fruition. It seems like it's crowded. When I go to Fukuoka, I definitely want to visit again.
Next, I'll introduce you to the best breakfast at the hotel I stayed at. Everyone, are you having trouble deciding where to stay in a hotel in Fukuoka? In such a case, I would like to recommend this breakfast hotel.
First of all, speaking of the disadvantages, breakfast hotels are just business hotels except for two points. "It's not a hotel like that." The first thing that's good about it is the breakfast. As the name "Breakfast Hotel" suggests, it's a hotel that specializes in breakfast, and the breakfast buffet has a wide variety of options.
But if you're at a business hotel, you'd probably just have standard hotel buffet menus like salads, marinated sausages, and gratin, right? However, there are chopped salads where you can choose your favorite vegetables and it is cooked right in front of you, smoothies where you can choose your favorite fruit and which are made on the spot, pizza, ice cream, and curry where you can choose your favorite toppings and it's baked on the spot, etc. There are so many different kinds of salads that you wouldn't expect.
The chopped salad that is prepared on the spot is like Crisp Salad Works, a famous restaurant in Tokyo, and the custom pizza is available at the Ritz-Carlton Okinawa club lounge, but I don't think you can get it at a regular business hotel. I was impressed.
At this point, everyone must have thought, "Ah, yes, for a business hotel to have so many items, the taste must be a little strange," right? That's what I thought too, but when I actually ate it, it was delicious. To be honest, I thought, "I guess they advertised a rich breakfast buffet to differentiate themselves from other business hotels, but the taste was secondary." The hotel exceeded my expectations in a good way.
What's even more amazing is the second recommended point of this hotel: the price. I went on a Friday night between Hakata Station and Tenjin Station, as close to a restaurant as possible. By the way, I was looking for a hotel, and even the APA hotels were clean and priced over 20,000 yen, and only this and one other hotel were in the 10,000 yen range. I stayed for 16,000 yen for 2 adults per night. So, it was a hotel that satisfied both my stomach and my wallet.
I will put a link in the summary section, so if you are having trouble choosing a hotel, please try staying there.
Next up is the original Hakata Mentaiju, which is also listed in the Tabelog Top 5000 Japan. This is the first mentaiko restaurant specializing in mentaiko, and it's a super staple when traveling to Fukuoka. Now it's become so famous among people overseas that there can be a wait of about 200 people at noon, so if you don't want to wait, go in the morning or at night.
Next up is Panstock, which is located next to the original Hakata Mentaiju. This is an extremely popular bread shop, and its Mentai French is especially famous. I went there at 10:20 on a Saturday and waited until I entered the shop. I waited for about 20 minutes.
When I entered the shop, there was a row of breads lined up like this, so I could have the bread of my choice. When eating in, there is a one-drink system, and even when taking out, it is right in front of me. You can enjoy it in the open space.
I had the famous Mentaiko French and Sesame Roll Bacon Epi. Mentaiko French is irresistibly delicious with the creamy yet tangy mentaiko on the crispy French bread. Yamaya, which I introduced on my food tour in the Dazaifu area, is convenient to remember that the taste is comparable to that of Mentai France in Dazaifu, and Yamaya in Dazaifu, and bread stock in Hakata.
The sesame roll has a strong sesame flavor that you can enjoy with both your tongue and nose. The bacon epi is a little tougher. The salty and umami flavor of the bacon goes perfectly with the firm baguette dough.
Lastly, we have Koya. Koya is a must-see for Japanese food lovers! Hanakago Lunch is a restaurant where you can enjoy the look. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays. It's very popular among women. Approximately 80% of the customers are women, including solo travelers, dates, and girls' gatherings.
At Hanakago Lunch, you can enjoy delicious side dishes as well as your eyes. You can choose your favorite two from the many rice balls lined up in front of you. In terms of ranking, Boiled egg is No. 1 and shrimp avocado is No. 2. Mentaiko is the most popular, so if you're having trouble, choose this one.
This Hanakago Lunch is elegant and has a taste that is gentle on the body. Because it has such an elegant and gentle taste, it appeals to a wide range of women, from young people to adults. It's probably popular. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays, so it's easy for tourists to go.
Today, we've introduced 22 recommended gourmet restaurants in Fukuoka. There are so many delicious restaurants in Fukuoka. The 22 restaurants we introduced today are linked here to see the locations of the shops.
If you are a member of the Gourmand membership, cafes, ramen restaurants, izakayas, etc. are pinned on Google Maps so you can see them at a glance, so please be sure to use them when traveling to Fukuoka.
I will introduce them in the future. In the video called "Fukuoka Trip," we will not only introduce Dazaifu and Ohori Park that we introduced today, but also Itoshima sightseeing with palm tree swings and Meoto Iwa, so please look forward to it!
