The belly fat, or your waist circumference, is more important than your weight. That's right, because your waist circumference is a manifestation of that visceral fat, while your weight is more of a manifestation of your subcutaneous fat.
That's one of the reasons why BMI, which is really a measure of your subcutaneous fat, is good for populations but not for individual people. We shouldn't even categorize people as obese based on BMI.
What you really want to know is what's going on in the ectopic visceral adipose tissue compartment or the liver fat compartment, which is even worse. The reason is, the liver fat is right there; it's ground zero.
