Weāre heading to Mexico City for our anniversary! Got my Alfred vanilla latte of course, iykyk. Probably talking about all the tacos weāll have. I decided to take on some light reading during the trip š . Weāre staying in Roma Norte like true gringos š .
We made it to Mexico City and this is our giant Airbnb. I wasn't expecting it to be this huge. I didn't realize, like I thought, this is a mirror right there, but this is the room. It is so spacious. Iām so excited. It's so much bigger than I thought it was going to be. But look at this. This is so pretty. The hand chair. And this really nice patio. It's not very big, but it has lots of plants.
We just got here. So we're super hungry, and we're going to get food next. I forgot to show the bathroom. You have to know the toilet situation. It's actually one of the nicest Airbnb bathrooms I've ever seen. You can tell that this is well thought out, decorated very well.
Originally we were going to Mi Compa Chava for lunch but once we saw the huge line we turned around and ended up at. I ordered a Michelada and was given this š¤. We never did make it to Mi Compa Chava but this place was amazing and it was full of locals instead of tourists, highly recommend!
After food we went back to the airbnb. Weāre treating this like a working vacation. Iām so glad this place is so spacious since weāll be here a lot. It feels so home-y. Weāre all settled in but I think I need a sweet treat š. Even at 10PM it was crazy crowded! Mexico City is SO dog friendly. I dropped the sugar all over me.
Official Review: Went to a Walmart for allergy meds and took a look around. Itās always fun seeing similar things that we have! We slept well after walking all day yesterday. My only complaint is there isnāt much cover for all the windows so we got up when the whole of Mexico City got up. We donāt have much of a view but at least thereās *some* green.
Weāre headed to Odette for breakfast. My only regret about this place was not coming back. The green spaces are soothing my soul. Coffee time to read and work. The faƧades of the buildings reminded me of Spain a little bit and the colors were so fun to pass by. We donāt have many plans today so I found this bookstore to explore. If you read A Song of Achilles, how are you holding up? We planned to stay at the bookstore longer but it was more of a lunch place than cafe.
I got us Lucha Libre tickets for our anniversary gift š. The people constantly crossing is a part of the experience I guess. These moves would absolutely wreck my body if I attempted. I didnāt know there would be women wrestlers, but they were even more ruthless than the men! This is definitely the most exciting match but the crossing is getting so annoying. The underdog fell over the barrier at one point š„“, all in a days work! This was a lot more fun than I though it would be. If you plan on going, donāt get a corner seat like us š .
Tacos Orinoco was all over social media so I had to try. Salsas being at every restaurant makes my heart flutter š. We both got the classic 3 proteĆnas, ADD the potatoes. Iām pretty disappointed in the frijoles charros though. This place was good but definitely not the best weāve had so far.
We went to the convenience store and I like to try different candies, so I got a couple different gummy candies. Everything is covered in this spice stuff, which I love. I've definitely had this before, I think in LA. And then I got some cookies. These are good, tastes like watermelon. These are a lot better. I like them a lot. I'm going to have to get a ton before we leave. Not really spicy. It's like sweet, but it has that chili taste to it. And these just taste sweet. Let's try this one. I think it's in the shape of a strawberry. It is! This looks like it's going to go straight to my jaw. Itās pretty good. It's not spicy at all, sour! Do you want to try? I think I'm all soured out. So we'll try these tomorrow.
Next up on the pastry tour is Cafe Nin! We got a seat right at the coffee bar with these tempting us. It has a very antique vibe here. The pastries are excellent as well! Itās worth the line for sure. We just had breakfast, and now we're going shopping before we have a... You're going shopping...salsa and tortillas class.
There were some really unique pieces here but not my style. This store is a super popular perfumerie. It was crawling with tons of influencers. One woman was getting mad that I was getting in the way of her filming š but I loved the interactive experience they had, lots of things to smell! I ended up getting this perfume, very summery.
Now itās time for our salsa making class! First we met our host at the mercado to pick up the ingredients. We got a molcajete lesson and started preparing different salsas. For the green salsa we fried some tomatillos and peppers. Concentrating very hard in this hot kitchen! Carlos took over the frying while I mashed the salsa. The class was great and we made a ton of salsas!
Unfortunately after this everything took a turn for the worse. Carlos started to feel off after that salsa class š„“. We both werenāt super hungry but decided to stop for a snack. I don't even really know what's in this. I just asked for chocolate chip, and it looks like a little bit of oat too. The matchaās a little bit too milky for me. Weāll spend the rest of the day working.
Thereās a guidebook in our airbnb that past guests can write in. They suggested going here so off we went! The vibe was very cool while also being super authentic. If you go anywhere in CDMX, this should be on the top of the list. These are 100% the best tacos weāve ever had. This oneās amazing! Itās the best Iāve ever had.
So I'm out by myself right now. I just got Panaderia Rosetta and, there's a person coming. Carlos is sick. I think he has just food poisoning. I don't know what I'm going to do today. Obviously, I don't want to leave him behind. And today's our anniversary. I don't really have anything planned for today, so that's okay. Except we have a reservation at MƔximo Bistrot. And I don't know. It says $500 to cancel per person, but I think that might be pesos, so fingers crossed it is. So I'm going to go back. I got some things for him, but I don't think he can eat. So I'm just going to get some water at the convenience store and we'll go from there.
It has been wonderful with this being across the street from us. Struggling to do this one handed š„“. *checking for signs of life*. Okay, a little update. My stomach is now starting to hurt. We did take a salsa and tortilla making class, and we made fresh salsa, and it was very spicy, so it might have been that. And we have a reservation at Maximo Bistrot. I think I said that earlier, and I don't think we're going to make it. Going to wait a couple hours and see. But I have a slight headache. I'm fine. Otherwise my stomach just kind of like feels kind of gross. But yeah, I feel like it's part of like, it's like a rite of passage in Mexico. I don't think I've ever been sick in Mexico. Actually, I've been probably around almost ten times to Mexico, but I've been very careful and here I've been not as careful because I thought I could take it. So I guess we're just going to stay in for the day. I can work on a vlog. Catch up on editing and yeah, I'll keep you updated.
I used to get these as a kid when my grandpa came back from Mexico, so nostalgic! We decided to order in for our Anniversary dinner. I ordered Italian as a break from all the Mexican food. Goodbye to this airbnb! We survived. Barely. I'm still going through it.
We're heading to the next hotel. We're staying one more day. And this Airbnb wasn't available for tomorrow, so we're going to a Hyatt and then we're heading out. We'll see if they have hot water. There's no hot water this morning, so. Weāre heading to the Polanco area. We used points for this Hyatt but of course itās in one of the most expensive areas of CDMX. Next time weāll be more prepared and do it the authentic way!
We decided to brave some food while waiting to check into the hotel. Heās making fun of me because I thought it was a cafe but itās a full on restaurant š¤Ŗ. The food was good but I wouldnāt go back.
Next up is Museo Tamayo. This museum is known for its more contemporary art. You arenāt allowed to film the art but they allowed you to film the entrance. If CDMX is known for anything, itās for their love of dogs š¶. Thereās a park nearby so letās see whatās going on over there. I love that thereās a book store right off this lake. Next time we come Iām bringing a book and sitting right here.
We just checked in to our hotel. It's a lot fancier than I thought it was going to be. The lobby is at least. We just got a regular room. So let me show you. Carlos has to work unfortunately, so I'll probably catch up on editing and that's it! Pretty simple. It's enough for us. For one night. I will say it is very nice having AC. And our Airbnb wasn't very consistent with hot water. So that'll be very nice to have. And this is our view. We're on the 34th floor. I was just looking around and I saw that church. That's so cool. I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere either. So I wonder what church it is.
Quick break for a coffee before I explore. I went to seek out that church from earlier and found this park. Found it! Itās such a unique design, I had to admire close up.
Weāre at one of the best bars in the world! The cocktails were all so unique. I wish I could have tried them all! Carlos got one of the tea mocktails to start. It was a unique change of pace in here. Their music was a nice vibe as well. Sitting at the bar was a great move! Ooo! Thatās really good!! He liked his too š. The bartenders are also so friendly! Ta da!! Last drink before I tap out. The little lego cube was chocolate with banana creme inside. Definitely worth getting a reservation for.
The hotel lobby is very glam. To top off the night we got room service. I got soup because my stomach was still hurting and fries of course.
Having a small breakfast here before heading to the airport. It was fun but Iām ready for some pepto bismol š„².
