You can probably tell from the title that this video is in response to Rick Shield's review of our fairway woods. Shout out to you, Rick, again for checking out the clubs and giving an honest review of them. And one of the things I really loved in the video is that you highlighted that you were hitting the clubs straight. They really tight dispersion uh and pretty forgiving clubs.
Um, but there was obviously sort of the elephant in the room and that is that you pulled out a different club, a different 3-wood and showed that all of a sudden the carry distance jumped up. So for us when we're designing these fairway woods, our goal was to make clubs that are going to help the average golfer. Now, the reality is that the average golfer swing speed is significantly lower than the people that you see online. People like Rick. Rick's swing speed has been going up and it's really cool, but it does put him in a fairly unique category of golfers who have a high swing speed. With high swing speed comes high spin. Everyone who's played golf for a long time, if you have pretty high swing speed, you know that. And it means that you have kind of the opposite problem of a lot of golfers. The majority of golfers don't spin the ball enough. They're not getting enough spin. So, they're not getting the carry. They're not getting the stopping power that they should be from their golf clubs.
For us, when we're designing these fairway woods, our goal was to make clubs that are going to help the average golfer. So, I want to try to highlight that right here on the Trackman. I've got the Ignis D23wood. The heavy weights in the front, lightweights in the back. So, it's in a lower spin setting that we have. It's got the Ventus 7X shaft in it, which is our lowest spin shaft. But the reality is this is still not quite what I would need to get the most out of this club. And I'll show you what I mean. Okay. So, let's see what happens when I hit this club at my swing speed. Where is that going? Yeah. So, we got 116 mph, but it only carried uh 256 total. 261 cuz it spun at 4500. That's way too much spin uh to get like kind of an optimized ball flight for this. Kind of pulled that one left. Trying to close the face a little bit. Trying to drop the spin. And it's still we're spinning at 4700. And even though we swung that one closer to 118 mph, still only got 256 yards of carry. Okay, I got to say consistencywise, I mean, it's it's just spinning way too much. If you're spinning too much, you're going to get this balloon where it kind of stops and falls out of the sky. These are stopping on a dime, but they're just not getting anywhere near the distance that I would like to get. I would expect to get if I want to get the most out of this. I'm going to have to do some fitting with it. I'm going to have to try some different shafts that are going to help me launch it as low as possible with as little spin as possible. But that's just the reality in general for my game. I know that if this 3-wood was built for me to get me the optimal numbers from a 3-wood, well, then the majority of golfers would not be able to hit it very well. It wouldn't work very well for them.
I did a little digging and it looks like the average 20 handicap male golfer in the United States swings their 3-wood right around 90 miles an hour. The average carry is somewhere around 200 yd. Total being somewhere around 215, 220, somewhere around there depending on roll out. So, I thought I'm going to take this 3-wood, change nothing about it, and I'm going to swing somewhere around 90 mph. See how well this would work for someone with an average swing speed. I mean right there. So 92 mph swing speed. This thing spins just under 3,000, carries 208 y, goes out to 232. And you know, you may want a little more spin than that with you, which you can adjust in the club, but that's kind of crazy. Like those are great numbers for that swing speed. For like an average 3-wood swing speed, that's fantastic. So that is a low on the face hit. Like that is that's a forgiveness test. Still got 192 yards out of the carry. Swinging it under 90 mph. So we're at 89. It might be a little faster. Yeah. 95 getting 216 carry total 236. So that one's a little spinnier because we got a little more club head speed. So carry 216 total 236. I mean those numbers are great for that swing speed, which again is who we're designing these clubs for. We're designing them for the average golfer to help y'all out. Um, we're not designing these for people who are swinging it super super fast because it's such a small part of the golfing population.
Golfers with high swing speeds like myself are going to need to really dive into finding the right shaft setup for them because we also have different deliveries and there's just a lot that goes into it. So, for me, if I want to get 3-wood dialed, I know I'm going to have to go do a little work, but that's okay. But for the average golfer, I'm not sure what more you would want from a 3-wood than this. So this this again is in the low spin setting. So that one's a touch higher on the face. The spins at 24. So that's with this in the lowest spin setting. And again, I didn't change out the actual club at all. Still has a 7x shaft in it. It still has the heavier weight in the front, which is going to be lower spin. And you can see here that it's probably too low spin in this setting for this swing speed. But for the average golfer, that means you've got play here to dial this in to be optimal for you because it does bring down the spin when it's supposed to. But then you can also adjust the club to get more spin if you want, depending on how you're swinging the club. So all this is just to say that we designed the clubs for y'all. What we've seen from so many everyday golfers is that the Ignis fairway woods are really forgiving. They hit the ball really straight and they make it easier to fill that gap from the driver to your irons and give you a lot more confidence with those numbers. So, if that's what you're looking for, then this could be a fantastic option for you. And if you're somebody with a high swing speed like myself, like Rick, well, we're probably going to have to do a little more work with the setup just to get it optimal for us.
