Even if you shower, you brush your teeth, and you spray cologne, you could still smell bad. And that's because you don't know your scent triangle. In this video, I'm going to show you a three-part hygiene strategy that fixes your body odor from every angle, so you can smell clean all day and become impossible to ignore. Let's start with tip one.
You can't smell yourself. You probably smell right now, and you don't even realize it. That's because your brain has a glitch called olfactory fatigue. The longer you're exposed to a smell, the less your brain is able to recognize it. So, how do you know how you smell to other people? Here's a simple test. First, you will lick your wrist. You let it dry and then take a whiff. That is what other people smell on you, multiply by three. But that's just your breath. If you want to check your natural body odor overall, just rub your wrist for a couple of seconds until it gets warm. Once it's warm, take a whiff. That whiff you smell is how other people smell you every day. And your boy smells like bergamot. And ooh, that smells like Creed, bro. But I'm going to get you there. Don't worry, because here's the worst part. You can't fix that body odor unless you know your scent triangle. So, first, let's start by fixing the body zone.
Tip two, you apply your deodorant wrong. You apply deodorant every day and you still stink. That's because most people are making three silent mistakes all in the same spot. If you fix these, you will eliminate body odor forever. The first mistake is that regular guys, they like to apply deodorant on wet skin. If your underarms are even slightly damp after your shower, your deodorant won't stick. It'll just cling to the water and then evaporate. Guys that smell great, they always apply deodorant on skin that's dry. You can either use a towel or a blow dryer on cool mode to get your skin fully dry.
The second mistake is that your long underarm hair traps heat and bacteria. That combo will multiply odor even if you apply deodorant. Now, guys that always smell great, they always clip their underarm hair trimmed with a number three clip guard because less hair equals less heat, which equals less stink.
Third mistake is that regular guys apply deodorant in the morning, but that's not going to keep you fresh because antiperspirants work by blocking sweat glands and they need time to absorb. The guys that smell great, they apply their deodorant at night so it locks in as you sleep and you smell great the next day. If you do all three of these right: dry skin, trim pits, and night application, you're going to start smelling better immediately. And if you want to smell expensive like bergamot, like your boy, get a good deodorant. Geology's Bergamot and Juniper is the best in the game. It's the one that I use, not not only me. 1.5 million men around the world use Geology, and it's a reason why it's the only one I've used over the last 5 years. 10/10 recommend to you guys.
But now, we need to go a little bit deeper and tackle that bacteria that's on your body that's causing your odor. Tip number three, the scientific shower routine. Do you stink, you smell funky, or you have bad body odor? It's because no one taught you how to shower correctly. So, I'm going to give you the correct, non-negotiable, three-step shower routine that will eliminate body odor forever. First, you have to reset your armpits because the perfect shower starts even before you step into the shower by resetting the area that produces the most body odor, which is your armpits. The problem, it's not just sweat. It is the waste from the bacteria that's living there. And if your soap is not killing that bacteria, you're essentially just rinsing off the bad odor temporarily. So, grab a cotton pad or tissue paper and add some glycolic acid and swipe it on your underarms before you shower. Glycolic acid is an AHA that dissolves your dead skin cells and lowers the pH balance of your skin. That lower pH becomes acidic and it makes it impossible for bacteria to live there, killing off all bad odor.
Step two, once your pits are prepped, it's time to actually smell great and step in the shower. Don't just use any body wash here. Use one that smells like a high-end fragrance. So, always when you buy a body wash, look at the fragrance notes it uses. For example, I love Geology's Moab body wash. It smells amazing and it actually helps my skin. It uses juniper and bergamot as top notes. By the way, those are the exact same top notes that you find in Tom Ford Oud Wood, which is a fragrance that costs $300. It smells identical and you're showering in it. But it doesn't just help you smell good. It's also formulated by dermatologists, which means it is packed with clean ingredients good for your skin like niacinamide or salicylic acid. So it clears bacteria, unclogs pores, and it resets your skin barrier.
But here's the truth. Even the best smelling body wash like Moab from Geology, it won't matter if your feet and your butt still stink because these areas you cannot wash with the regular body wash like this. Which takes us to step three. You will destroy stubborn odor with Heavy Cleanse. It is a doctor antiseptic scrub that kills odor-causing bacteria on contact and it keeps working even after you rinse. It's so good that dermatologists use this on patients right before surgery. That's how you know it works. So, you're only going to use it two to three times a week. You're going to lather it on your feet and your glutes and leave it there for about a minute or two and then rinse. That is the shower routine no one taught you. And if you want the best body washes in the market that smell expensive, you have to check out Geology's lineup. They smell so great. They were even voted GQ's best body wash for men. Your body's now clean. So, we need to move to the second zone of your scent triangle, which is your breath. Tip four, always carry a freshness kit. Every student needs six smell-good essentials in their backpack. I call this the emergency freshness kit. This is a simple pocket-sized setup that keeps you clean and confident no matter what happens. Here's what you're going to put inside. First, cleansing wipes. We use facial wipes or body wipes because these will cut through sweat, oil, and odor without needing water. Midday, just wipe your face, your neck, and your underarms, and you're going to feel fresh. Second, travel deodorant. Here's a pro tip, though. Before you apply it midday, grab some paper towel and dry your pits and then apply it. Third, gum or mints. But not just any gum or mint, you want one that needs to have xylitol. It not only will freshen your breath, but it helps fight odor-causing bacteria. Fourth, a mini toothbrush and paste, especially after lunch. Even if you only brush for a quick 30 seconds, it just refreshes you up. Fifth, a pocket fragrance. Whether it's a solid cologne, a mini spray, or a scent cart. And sixth, a very small dot kit to carry everything. Carry this daily and you'll never get caught smelling mid again.
Tip five, use this three-point test to figure out why your breath stinks. If your breath still stinks even after you brush, it's because you don't know where the smell is coming from. So, here's a three-part test to diagnose it instantly and then how to get rid of it for good. Step one, grab a paper towel, fold it up, and reach as far back as you can on your tongue and scrape. Wait 5 seconds and then smell it. If it stinks, that bad smell is coming from your tongue. The fix: Don't just brush your teeth. You already do this and wonder why your breath still stinks. Instead, I want you to also brush your tongue. Then, gently brush your inner cheeks and your entire gum line. Most guys miss this and that's where 80% of your odor-causing bacteria lives.
Test two. Grab floss and floss your back molars, the last tooth in your mouth. Then smell the floss. If it's bad, then the smell is coming from deep in your gums. The fix? Stop rinsing with water. Rinsing washes away the fluoride your gums need to kill the bacteria. Instead, just spit the excess paste and then wait 30 to 45 minutes before you eat and drink anything. This one change can make your breath cleaner and your teeth whiter.
Test number three, cup your hand over your mouth. I want you to breathe out through your nose and then smell your own breath. If it smells sour, then the bad odor is coming from your gut. The fix: Brushing your teeth is not enough to prevent this bad breath from happening. Instead, you need to start oil pulling. You can start swishing sesame seed or coconut oil in your mouth between 15 and 20 minutes. It pulls out all the toxins and also reduces the sulfur-producing bacteria that stinks. One clinical study had 20 people use oil versus regular mouthwash. The group that used oil had their breath bacteria significantly dropped.
And now, we've handled the scent from your body and your breath. But there's one more side to this triangle, which is the scent that people remember. It's the one that lingers behind you, and it's fabric. So let's move on to the last scent zone so you can always smell good.
Tip six, smell good from the inside out. I'm going to show you how to smell good from the inside out by drinking three juices you can start making at home. Juice one: If a man drank lemon and cucumber juice, he would have full body freshness all day. Lemon is a natural deodorizer, and cucumber helps flush out sulfur compounds that contribute to your body odor. Drink this juice first thing in the morning to start neutralizing odor-causing bacteria from the start.
Juice two: If a man drinks pineapple and orange juice, he's going to make his sweat taste sweet. Oranges contain enzymes that alter the smell of your sweat. The result, bro, you'll naturally smell sweeter. So drink this juice midday for energy, for a natural energy boost and better natural scent.
And juice three: If a man drank beet and pomegranate juice every day, you'll detox and increase blood flow. Better blood flow equals cleaner sweat and healthier skin microbiome. I want you to drink this one after dinner or post-workout for a final detox hit. So stack one juice in the morning, the second juice midday, and the third juice at night to start smelling great from the inside out.
Tip seven, use four scent layers. I'm going to teach you how to properly layer your scents to smell good all day and be the best-smelling guy in any room. This is called scent layering. And if you want it to smell expensive or unique, you need to start layering four scents. Your first layer, it's right after a shower. This is when you apply a lotion because your dry skin will evaporate any fragrance you apply. But moisturized skin holds that fragrance all day. So, make sure you add a few sprays of your favorite fragrance into your lotion before you apply it.
Layer two, you will use a body oil that smells expensive. Body oil hydrates your skin. It makes your body look more defined and it boosts your scent's longevity. So, I'm going to give you a hack I should gatekeep, but for my bros, I got you. Use a body oil based on a specific fragrance note. I want you to use an oud body oil because it'll smell like a $300 bottle of Tom Ford Oud Oud since they both have the same top note. Use a bergamot body oil if you want it to smell like Dior Sauvage. And use an amber body oil if you want it to smell like MFK Grand Soir.
Now we move on to layer three. Spray on your cologne last. You're going to spray that cologne on the same spots where you layered your body oil. And the final layer, layer four, add three to four sprays of another cologne that's also your favorite to your clothing steamer or your iron water tank. Then just steam your clothes. As it heats up, it starts binding the fragrance to the clothing fabric, making this your final layer. Now you have created a scent bubble around your body that evolves as you move and it's completely unique to you, making you the best-smelling guy in any room. And just like that, you have solved your scent triangle to have an amazing scent profile to always smell great.
