BREAKING: JP MORGAN TO START BITCOIN LENDING - BTC TO $1M!

Adam Livingston23:19

Transcription

Good morning everyone. My name is Adam Livingston. I am the Bitcoin Wizard. We have some very exciting news as it relates to Bitcoin adoption and in my opinion some of the most consequential news that has come out in the last few years. And no, I'm not exaggerating.

So, we're going to get into my analysis about how big of a deal this is. But first, let's take a trip down memory lane and see what JP Morgan CEO Jaime Diamond said about Bitcoin one year ago in 2024.

"Bitcoin, I've always said it's a fraud. Uh there are so no hope for it. Well, if it's if they think they're a currency, there's no hope for it. It's a Ponzi scheme. It's a public decentralized Ponzi scheme and a fraud."

Kids, one year ago and they have officially capitulated to the orange gospel. It is amazing to have another W here, folks. So, what to know? Let's read the bullet points from CoinDesk real quick.

"JP Morgan Chase plans to allow institutional clients to use Bitcoin or Ether as collateral for loans by the end of the year per Bloomberg. This move is part of a broader trend of major financial institutions integrating digital assets into their services."

In other words, capitulation to admitting that the future belongs to Bitcoin. The tokens pledged under the global program will be safeguarded by a third-party custodian and extends JP Morgan's earlier move to accept crypto-linked ETFs as loan collateral. With Bitcoin hitting record highs this year and regulatory hurdles easing under the current administration, major banks like JP Morgan are shifting from skepticism to actively incorporating crypto into their financial services. Other leading firms such as Morgan Stanley, State Street, and Fidelity are also deepening their crypto offerings, launching retail access and custody solutions," the report said.

So, what does this all mean in the big picture? Let's get into it. But before we get started, a very special thank you to Horizon for sponsoring this video. If you guys didn't know, Horizon lets you tap your home equity to buy Bitcoin. Why wouldn't you want to tap your home equity to buy incorruptible digital capital? No debts, no monthly payments, no term limits. The Bitcoin is fully yours to hold however you would like with no risk of forced liquidation. I'll talk more about them at the end of the video. They are linked down below.

Let's unpack how this single policy is going to detonate the next adoption wave. First, the institutional on-ramp has been thrown wide open. Think of a hedge fund that holds a billion dollars in Bitcoin. Okay. Yesterday, the only way to unlock dollar liquidity was to sell part of that stack, trigger your capital gains tax, and kneecap all of your upside. Now, pretty soon they are going to be able to post those coins, keep the ownership of the Bitcoin, draw a credit line in dollars and stay long in Bitcoin. That removes the structural sell pressure from the market and turns every large balance sheet into a potential Bitcoin-backed finance shop. And we already know this, but this is making it official. Bitcoin has graduated into collateral royalty.

JP Morgan's risk is now placing Bitcoin on the same schedule as US treasuries and agency mortgage bonds, which is a silent endorsement of Bitcoin's liquidity, Bitcoin's price discovery, and the counterparty risk profile as a whole. Every single credit officer from New York to Singapore will see this slide and realize the reputational cost of calling Bitcoin too volatile has flipped into the reputational cost of ignoring a peer-validated asset. And this is going to cause the competitive domino effect. It is already wobbling right now. Prime brokers live and die by client flow. If one tier one bank like JP Morgan is going to offer a cheaper and cleaner way to extract the dollar liquidity from crypto, rival desks now must copy fast or they will start to bleed wallets. This is where competition is good because the moment that two or three banks copy JP Morgan's model, Bitcoin acceptance stops being the exception and starts being the rule. This is going to unlock hundreds of billions of incremental BTC secured credit lines. It can pull new corporate treasuries into the arena and accelerate the feedback loop that I am going to outline in the later slides. So, if you add all of these three forces together, you get a market structure that absorbs Bitcoin, never spits the Bitcoin back out, and continuously amplifies demand. And that is why this move goes beyond the headline that we're reading. This is the opening scene of a global liquidity migration that traditional finance cannot stop. Now we get to zoom out and watch the shock waves just radiate throughout the global markets over the next few months.

There's obviously going to be a capital rotation tailwind here because the US repo market alone clears roughly $12 trillion in overnight financing every single day. If you shift just 1% of that collateral stack from treasuries into Bitcoin-backed trades, you unleash $120 billion of incremental demand. Brand new structural demand for BTC, which is obviously a massive percent of all the demand that has flown to IBIT from BlackRock. And here's the thing, it recurs daily as the repo lines roll in a market with barely 3 million liquid Bitcoin. $120 billion of incremental demand is a price-setting tsunami. It crowds out the sellers. It tightens the float of Bitcoin and it ratchets the clearing price upward with mechanical force.

And now there's a narrative flip that has clearly occurred because for a decade Jaime Diamond called Bitcoin a fraud and now his bank is effectively saying, "Hey, we'll lend against it." That single act flips the risk story upside down. The regulators who once saw crypto as unmanageable now see the world's most systemically important bank treating it like investment grade collateral. Think about it on the asset manager level. The asset managers who feared career risk are now facing career opportunity risk if they ignore Bitcoin. So now the reputational polarity has totally reversed. Siding with Diamond once meant skepticism. Now it means adoption. And this is setting us on a path to mainstream collateral because collateral status isn't binary, folks. It climbs a ladder of custody standards, haircut tables, and margin models. JP Morgan has placed Bitcoin on the first rung of that ladder and each successful margin cycle lowers the perceived risk of Bitcoin, trims the haircuts and expands eligible use cases. So over time, Bitcoin is going to migrate from digital gold parked in cold storage to pristine yield-adjacent collateral moving through every single credit pipe on the entire planet. This evolution of Bitcoin is going to convert the passive holders into active capital allocators, deepen the liquidity and ingrain Bitcoin at the monetary core of modern finance. And that is why this story is blowing my mind. We are watching adoption happen in real time. This is it. So you can zoom out and think that this is a single bank tweaking a single policy, but this is going to be a catalyst that realigns trillion-dollar funding markets. It's going to rewrite institutional psychology. This is a first mover and you just have to look at the potential game-theoretical applications of this event. This is going to be laying the rails for Bitcoin to graduate from speculative asset to a cornerstone of global collateral architecture. Bitcoin is the greatest collateral ever. And everybody is starting to wake up and realize that.

Time to run the numbers and see why this decision is a tectonic shift, not a footnote in Bitcoin's history. Let's look at the first metric, the assets under custody. That mountain of client capital now sits one compliance memo away from Bitcoin-secured credit. The second that JPM flips the switch, every single basis point of that pile can theoretically anchor a BTC-backed lending mandate, which in practical terms, Bitcoin just gained potential access to a liquidity reservoir larger than the GDP of the entire European Union. Yeah, I'm using them as my primary source. $40.1 trillion. The second metric we're going to look at, the banking and payments loan book, $353.6 billion. Plug in a conservative 50% loan-to-value pilot. Instantly, $177 billion of credit capacity can be collateralized by Bitcoin without touching any other division. This is a serious amount of dry powder that is going to be unlocked the moments that the policy launches. The third metric that I'm looking at are the firm-wide average loans, $1.4 trillion of capital. And this tells us the real ceiling. If the pilot works and JPM rolls out the framework across its entire balance sheet, the bank could eventually originate $700 billion of Bitcoin-backed loans while still keeping the same cautious 50% haircut. That is enough leverage to move price discovery into a different orbit. This is gigabullish for Bitcoin. I mean, just look at these three figures. Combine them, it gives you a pretty clear message, kids. The finance world's heavyweight champion has built a runway that can funnel hundreds of billions of dollar liquidity straight into Bitcoin. All while the clients keep ownership of their coins. So once this engine starts, the competitors are obviously going to have to fire up their own or watch the capital migrate. This is why I'm calling it the collateral sound barrier. Okay? Because after this year, after what Michael Saylor has done with strategy, after this development here, Bitcoin is no longer knocking on the door of global credit, it is already standing in the lobby waiting for the next elevator up.

So, let's look at the addressable collateral pools, the 2025 snapshot. Here is where the JP Morgan policy is going to morph from a bank-specific headline into a systemic liquidity event. Start with the US repo market. We already went over this. $11.9 trillion of overnight funding. If you shift a trivial 1% of that collateral stack into Bitcoin-backed trades, you spark $119 billion of fresh Bitcoin demand. Double that is a 2% rotation. And the number obviously just leaps to $238 billion. And remember, the repo rolls every single business day. So this is a recurring bid that would rival an ETF wave hitting an order book each morning. Next, if you zoom out to the global repo complex, there is another $16 trillion of capital. A mere 2% rotation is another $320 billion toward Bitcoin. That alone would absorb the entire liquid exchange float more than once over and still be looking for more coins. The third pool are the US securities-based loans, which is $138 billion outstanding. So think family offices, the high-net-worth clients. Corporates use these lines like ATMs against equity portfolios. A 1 to 2% BTC shift would imply a $1.4 billion or $2.8 billion, which is small in isolation, but it normalizes Bitcoin inside brokerage risk systems where the user experience is just one click away. And finally, the prime broker balance is about $500 billion. So think the hedge fund lifeblood. A 2% allocation as another $10 billion of buy pressure. Plus the signaling effect that serious money is comfortable pledging sats for leverage, which they all should be in my opinion, obviously. But remember, this is not financial advice. This is financial entertainment.

If you aggregate this entire lot, a 2% migration totals a staggering $571 billion with a 2% shift into Bitcoin. This is not a typo, kids. To put this into perspective, this exceeds the market cap of JP Morgan itself. And we're talking about a modest 2% rotation, which is hardly a moonshot assumption. So, if you want a key takeaway, my dearest audience, well, when the collateral markets adopt a new asset, the demand scales geometrically, not linearly. What begins as a one bank pilot program can potentially snowball into a half-trillion-dollar liquidity magnet, compressing the supply, turbocharging the price discovery, and locking Bitcoin ever deeper into the scaffolding of global finance. And this is the powder keg that the JP Morgan announcement has just lit.

Here is where the story stops being about bankers and starts being about the trillion-dollar iceberg of professional money. Global assets under management currently stands at $147 trillion. A simple 1% strategic weight into Bitcoin reallocates $1.47 trillion, which is a multiple of the spot inflows into Bitcoin from the ETFs. If you push the dial to a 2% allocation, well, you're looking at $2.94 trillion. If we just slide the multiple, a 3% rotation is $4.44 trillion, which is about double what the entire market cap of Bitcoin is as an asset right now. And as we begin to see Bitcoin get accepted, the reflexive dynamic is going to be absolutely brutal because the higher prices of Bitcoin are going to raise the portfolio weights. The weights require rebalancing. Rebalancing buys even more Bitcoin and the cycle tightens until a new equilibrium is found. And the equilibrium is going to be a lot higher. The portfolio mathematics here, not Bitcoin ideology, are going to drive this avalanche of capital once all the compliance teams in the world start to follow suit, accept Bitcoin as valid collateral, and the regulators seeing JP Morgan treating it as such a small benchmark allocation is going to become a very prudent move. When trillions of dollars shift for prudence, the price action will look like mania. But it is really just the indices doing their own job.

Here comes the knockout punch. The hard cap meeting the hard math, the fun part. First, we need to frame the battlefield. Only 2.83 million coins sit on exchanges with any real liquidity. That is barely 10% of the total Bitcoin supply and it is shrinking every single cycle as the holders begin to self-custody. When the institutional demand arrives, this thin float must satisfy a fire hose of dollars. So, we need to apply the formula everyone in finance understands, which is price equals dollars chasing an asset divided by units available. Take the $571 billion that materializes from just a 2% collateral rotation. Divide by 2.83 million coins and you land at roughly $22,000 per Bitcoin. That is before a single hedge fund out there rebalances, before any retail investor FOMOs in, and before any reflexive leverage kicks in. If you run the same equation for a 1% assets under management allocation, a modest index weight, that is $1.47 trillion of demand, which would push the clearing price to about $519,000 per Bitcoin. At that altitude, every corporate treasury marked in BTC terms looks like an expanding balloon of collateral, such as Strategy. Strategy's balance sheet would look like $350 billion at this point, which would in turn unlock more lending capacity for anybody with a lot of Bitcoin. So, the loop tightens, the price continues to climb, the capacity expands, and then repeat. And finally, we can look at a 3% portfolio weight, which is a bit more bullish, but this is something that pensions have in gold today. The cash demand rockets to $4.41 trillion. If you spread over the same float, the math explodes to $1.56 million per Bitcoin. At that point, the order book is totally inverted. The buyers are competing for crumbs. The sellers totally vanish and price discovery leaps in thousand increments because it has no choice. In the grand scheme of things, we take a finite supply asset, large-scale dollar flows that are not trickling in, they are detonating. Every additional billion lifts the price denominator. Every lift increases the value of collateral and every increase invites more institutional leverage into the situation. This is not a moonshot scenario. This is literally me with a calculator on a desk meeting a balance sheet in motion. This is the reality. This is what we all have been waiting for.

Let me show you how the math works. Let's turn the math into a money multiplier. Step one, you have an initial pledge. We start with a certain USD equivalent worth of Bitcoin already posted as collateral. So, treat that pledge as the asset's dollar value. Simple one-for-one here. Step two, we're going to look at the credit extended. JP Morgan applying a cautious 50% loan-to-value ratio. So, this is what the desk wires out. This credit issued right here. Those dollars then head back straight into the market and buy the new coins, which means the collateral stack just grew without a single sat ever leaving custody. Step three, there is a compounding effect because you add the new coins to the original pledge and then the balance becomes B1 = B0 * (1 + L). L meaning that loan-to-value up here. And if you iterate this process n times, you get the geometric series that is right here. So remember with the L, the loan-to-value equaling .5, every loop compounds the pledged Bitcoin by 50%. Two turns equals 2.25x. Three turns equals 3.375x and so on. The collateral base is now reflexively auto-expanding. So why does this matter? Because as the Bitcoin that is pledged, the balance as it mushrooms, the loan headroom mushrooms with it, which just feeds more bid into the markets, the price appreciation and the collateral growth ignite with each other in a positive feedback spiral that legacy assets simply cannot replicate. Now, a quick reality check. Yes, margin calls exist, but haircuts, dynamic loan-to-values, third-party custody, they keep all of the systemic risk totally fenced. And at the same time, every single successful cycle quietly then normalizes Bitcoin-secured credit. It will lower the perceived risk of the asset over time and invites the next borrower to step on the same accelerator. So, the bottom line, my algebra here isn't abstract. It's the precise engine that Wall Street already uses for securities-based lending, now bolted onto a hard-capped digital asset. So once this flywheel spins, fellas, Bitcoin stops being an investment. I don't want to hear anybody say that word ever again in the same breath as Bitcoin. It is going to start becoming a self-reinforcing financial gravity engine.

Everything we've covered funnels into this glide path right here. How the Bitcoin price and collateral volumes kind of co-evolve as the big banks start to pile in. 2025. If we look at the proof of concept phase and we start with just one GSIB, which is JP Morgan itself running a $25 billion pilot, that alone would support a clearing price of Bitcoin and kind of the price span that we're already in because the market would still be digesting the first wave of Bitcoin collateralized credit. Think of this band as the credibility premium for proving that the rails work, which they do. Strategy's already proving it, but you guys know how I feel about that. Have any dividends been skipped? No, they haven't. That's what I thought. Haters. And then we look at 2026. If we see some early majority acceleration by next year, if I project five out of the 30 global SIF banks, if I project that they copy the framework from JP Morgan, Bitcoin posted as collateral will balloon to $150 billion. The supply-demand math from the earlier slides map that bucket to the $120k to the $200k price band. And I think at this stage, that's when you see the asset managers really no longer being able to ignore Bitcoin without incurring career risk. This is all hypothetical, of course, but let's say it takes until 2028 when we have half of the banks accepting BTC collateral. So half of the tier one banks, 15 out of 30 are on board. The collateralized balances would reach roughly $600 billion just based on this catalyst alone. Remember, I'm ignoring a lot of other Bitcoin catalysts, but I think that gets us in the price band of $200k to $500k Bitcoin. And this is going to be literally in the next 18 months, guys. I'm telling you, Bitcoin is transitioning from alternative asset to a recognized strategic reserve for balance sheet optimization. And then definitely by 2030, 2031 we are going to see a systemic integration. By the dawn of the next decade, everybody will be approving Bitcoin collateral. And this is where I start to see, depending on the year, depending on the part of the cycle, we see $1 million Bitcoin. And at that altitude, Bitcoin really is no longer competing with gold. It is competing with sovereign bonds as the cornerstone of global collateral architecture. So each adoption cohort is going to ratchet the price band higher, which in turn just enlarges the collateral base, which just invites the next cohort to join. This is a stair-step toward a monetary equilibrium where Bitcoin is simply part of the plumbing in the legacy finance system. And the numbers on this slide simply show exactly how the transition prices itself into existence. This is extremely bullish news. I think some people are sleeping on this. This is incredible.
