[Music] this this also is Mexico although many times we do not like to look at it in Mexico inequality is very great data indicates that 1% of the population earns 21% of the total income of this entire country this percentage is higher than any other in the whole world and it seems that we are in any popular neighborhood of Mexico City without realizing that we are only a few meters away from the opulence of Santa Fe Santa Fe is a place in Mexico City that encompasses two delegations Cuajimalpa and Álvaro Obregón and and here is where economic inequality in Mexican society is much more synthesized on the one hand the sumptuous residential and corporate buildings shopping malls very similar to any other first-world metropolis but very close to here there are humble houses with few square meters to inhabit without recreational areas and whose inhabitants need and must travel by public transport or any other cheap means of transport to get to their workplace in 2022 there was a report on inequalities worldwide and Mexico was among the top places for inequality the reality is that the wealth of this country is concentrated in few hands and a few months ago you saw the video of Santa Fe the luxuries and everything that beautiful city entailed we are really a few meters away and see how here it is really completely different and there are really several neighborhoods like this one we are in where exactly the same thing happens around Santa Fe there are several neighborhoods that border this area of Mexico City where the reality is very similar to what you are seeing a few years ago a famous photographer Johnny Miller did a project where he spoke about inequality in Mexico and he said that it is much more observed than in other cities in the world he took aerial photos from drones helicopters in areas like Santa Fe Huacalpan to give some examples and where the project shows images of these contrasts the aerial shots really look like they are taken from Photoshop they look like made images but it is the reality that this part of Mexico City lives in [Music] in this project we can see how the photographs it seems like there are hundreds of small house roofs crowded together clothes hanging on the rooftops and on the other side enormous green areas few constructions and roads similar to what we know as the first world in addition it also includes images of exclusive and expensive golf courses that seem like oases in the middle of Mexican poverty there are some statistics that say that four of the richest men in Mexico concentrate 9% of the wealth the truth is that it is an astonishing amount for the great country we have here obviously there is no longer access to motorcycles to cars these stairs make the passage only pedestrian and what we are going to see next is this view that seems different from what we see of Mexico a view where this inequality is extremely marked where it is a Mexico that as I told you a while ago a Mexico that sometimes we do not realize exists a Mexico that we sometimes try to hide but it is a much more present Mexico than others it is a Mexico where the majority of Mexicans live day by day and look this is the famous Mexico Toluca highway here large buildings begin in fact we see one there but look right behind again clearly marked Mexico's inequality and as I tell you this is a neighborhood like many others in Cuajimalpa many others like Álvaro Obregón a neighborhood that even a few years ago and that surely many of you remember was reflected in a certain part of the movie "Amarte Duele" it just talked about this class inequality this economic inequality that this area of Santa Fe lives in fact in some parts of Santa Fe there are walls that divide the developments with the popular neighborhoods where John Miller's photographs were taken and that many times these walls reflect what Mexico is a different Mexico an unequal Mexico and a Mexico of contrasts for example there are some developments like Lomas del Cadete Bosque Real Country Club where their similarity is very equal located here in this delegation Huacalpan and the photographs show first a gray area with irregular blocks thousands of houses and on the other side large green areas that surround tall buildings constructions connected with incredible roads where they even have artificial lakes however on the other side not even recreational areas for children [Music] currently buying a home in Mexico is becoming more difficult every day not only in Mexico but really all over the world many of these houses many of these neighborhoods grow upwards because it is increasingly difficult to have a piece of land for oneself that is why they build family after family son after son until they seem to have large buildings where they are inhabited by a single family a few surnames this this is also Mexico although many times we do not like to look at it another case that normally happens and where the division is seen that also came out in this project by John Miller are the golf courses or as he calls them private oases for millionaires and the reality is that it is true many times for them to enter it is an exclusive group where the monthly fees are quite expensive which perhaps a salary of a middle-class Mexican is only the entrance fee to play that golf course and the most serious or the strongest thing is that in our country 9.1 million Mexicans do not have sufficient resources for their basic needs [Music] a few minutes ago we were right in that neighborhood on top of a small hill a very popular neighborhood and really the car is going up there it's a few meters and next to it a Porsche dealership that's how Santa Fe is this this is Santa Fe the town of Santa Fe is also part of this same inequality and look I love the town of Santa Fe a lot and obviously for its famous tacos that I have reviewed on the garnacha route however look right behind us we see large and beautiful houses and on the other side just an avenue completely changes the panorama this is Santa Fe a project designed for not walking for always being in a vehicle and it seems like it was designed only for people with sufficient resources the rest we put them in walls and not to mix with whom I designed this project in the town of Santa Fe traditions continue they are lively people with a lot of joy as we Mexicans are there it seems artificial it seems like another world and it really is what world do you prefer put it in the comments what do you think of inequality in [Music] Mexico we are next to the market of the town of Santa Fe and right on this street a scene from Amarte Duele was filmed if I remember correctly Ulises sold clothes and this was his area and it is right on this street next to the market of Santa [Music] Fe well look there may be a lot of inequality in Mexico but I am sure that in Bosque whatever its name they don't have such bad rajas Híjole if there are inequalities in Mexico but in some things I think those at the bottom [Music] win look at this I find it very curious how we are here next to the church here in the town of Santa Fe and all the people who go to church are forced to see the houses in front perhaps a harsh message to something they will possibly never have access to it may sound very strong and it may sound very sad but many times it is a [Music] reality it not only looks incredible at night the corporate buildings the residential ones all the apartments look completely different from what we saw in this video they look like images from another country they look like images from another world and as I repeat yes it is yes it is what the 1% of people in Mexico live is completely different from the other 99% how in so few meters
